Go to this U-Haul location rather than the U-Haul hub in St. Albans. Every time I go to the one in Saint Albans, WV, which has been very frequently the past year or so, and every time before that, it's been a horrible experience. They had no internet connection there. The 24/7 online check in was a mess. Took me 20 minutes to complete check in because the system kept saying your session has timed out and then I would have to login again. It also took far too long for the online checkin to give me the combination to unlock the key. The location and truck were both great but the check in process was nothing but a headache.Cavon V.
I did not like that I had to back in and block the busy road to get my pickup attached to the vehicle trailer. Also no one told me to check my phone for a link to use to check over the trailer before leaving the rental place.LynnMark W.

Had a noon pickup time. Upon arrival a sign on the door said â€œout to lunch be back at 1 pmâ€. She did return promptly at 1pm. She gave my a drop off location that was â€œextremely closeâ€ to my destination but was actually 25 miles away. I found a location that was 3 miles away. She walked me out and showed me the trailer and I was left to hook up by myself. It's hard to check brake lights by yourself.douglas M.
The refrigerator / appliance dolly did NOT have a long enough strap (broken) and could not be used. We were NOT given credit when we returned the dolly. We had to get 4 guys to load the freezers causing us to manually unload and reload the food.Robert T.

Vehicle was easily accessible and the interior was clean. However, the AC was broken. I did not know this until later in the day because I picked the vehicle up in the morning when it was cool. This made being in the vehicle in the afternoon uncomfortable because it was a warm day in May. The cruise control did not work which was tiring on the drive. I did not know that until I tried to use cruise control on the Interstate. When I picked up the vehicle, it was early in the morning and the office had not opened yet so the keys were in a lock box. The office was open when I dropped off the vehicle. The employee checking the vehicle back in was not friendly. The day was long and past experiences with renting UHaul vehicles, the UHaul agent just charged for the gas if I did not fill the tank back up. This employee was annoyed I had not filled up the tank. She asked if I had read the instructions because I was supposed to fill up the tank. A very stressful moving day ended up with a negative UHaul experience. I will probably use Ryder or Hertz next time I need to rent a moving vehicle.Steven H.

My issues were related to the user experience. I was unaware of the amount of time necessary to complete the pre-reservation information. This ate into my reservation, and required communicating with my references that I was moving, which they wouldn't have been aware of pre-reservation. Wish I could have done all that BEFORE picking up the vehicle to save time.Brooke R.

Better communication. Uhaul person I spoke with as I made reservations at storage facility not Uhaul said I could get my AAA discount applied AFTER returning truck. Uhaul 1-800 # said opposite and I couldn't have it applied. Spent 1 hour on hold as â€œfirst in lineâ€ to confirm I dropped the truck off.Andrea Jean L.

We scheduled an after hours, remote pick up for our UHAUL. Everything was seemingly fine when I made the appointment for pick up, but when we arrived at our first location and did the pick up process through my phone, I was prompted with waiting until the location opened at 9:00AMâ€¦ when we needed the UHAUL by 6:00AM- like we said when we made the appointment.. for 6:00AM. I called the customer support and was speaking to someone rather quickly. She said she was unsure what had happened, but something was not done correctly. She then scheduled me a different pick up at a different location 10 more minutes away- even though we were already late to our scheduled pick up due to their mistake. She then told me that there was nothing they could do to reimburse me for my inconvenience since I was able to find a different truck close to where I already was.. which was fine. However, when we got to the second location, one of the storage units was open and the persons belongings were stung everywhere, and there was a huge pad of wet concrete that was not posted or marked off- so I ended up stepping right into it. Then we got to the truck and began the remote pick up process again.. but we were not given the code to get our key. Then, after being transferred 3 times and being on hold for about 45 minutes, someone finally got us the code and we were on our way.. 2 hours late. When we were coming to return the truck, we put the 1/2 a tank of gas that we started with back into the truck.. however, it seems I was charged for not returning the truck as I found it- even though we have photo evidence that when we picked up the truck it was at 1/2 a tank. We were only ever told to return it with the same amount of gas we found it in. There was no one there to speak to and I have yet to be able to call the support line and speak to anyone about any of this. I am extremely unhappy with UHAUL and will not be using this company again nor will I recommend it to anyone.Charleigh R.

Check in was about 10 minutes, tops and I was on my way. Drop off was after hours and it was a simple process using my cell phone. Left the keys and our transaction was over. Can't get much simpler than that.Timothy Russell B.

Having a full tank of gas on the Uhaul would be my first recommendation! The owner is the person that checked us in and was not wearing a mask in his small establishment. He stated we should just check in through the online check in and I explained I was not comfortable using that as I never had before. He then checked us in with his computer but never used any customer service skills and recommended next time we use online check in. We used this location one other time as it is the closest to the home we are needing it for. We will drive the extra distance next time when we rent from Uhaul or we will just choose Penske.Lonnie V.

We were given a cargo trailer with a tote that had a slow leak in it. Ending up breaking down on the side of the road in the middle of our move with 5 children. Called for roadside was told to use the app. Used the app after waiting over an hour in 100 degree weather for no one to call text or show up we plugged the tire at our own expense. Then returned the trailer to its destination the very next day but was still using the dolly in which I was entitled 3 days with. They called to tell me that I was going to be charged over $300 for a non returned equipment when I was still entitled to be using it at that time. Then the next day called to tell me they didn't return my trailer bc the dolly was attached to that reservation and they were going to charge me $20 a day extra for that. Customer service at my pickup location with Martin was amazing. Customer service with dropoff location is seriously lacking and the lady I dealt with was rude and when I said something about having to repair the tote ourselves she literally said I don't care. I also asked if I could have our converter plug we bought from them that was left on the trailer and she told me NO. I didn't get refunded for it either.William S.

The truck and self U-Haul online portal were great. Pick up and drop off were simple. However after I finished moving and had completed dropping off the U-Haul I decided to order a pizza online with my phone to feed my girlfriend and buddy that helped me move. The owner of Affordable Self-Storage in Nitro pulls up in his truck. My girlfriend and my friend who helped me move were just sitting in our car and minding our own business about ready to leave as soon as I place the order for pizza and the owner approached my car. Obviously he's walking over thinking we are loitering the property (Which obviously we were not as we had business there) or doing drugs or something. Had the audacity to accuse us of loitering when we had just dropped off the truck and had been ordering the pizza maybe 5 minutes or so. It was rude in my opinion. I understand he didn't know what we were doing or who we were, but it was inappropriate and I will not rent from a site where customers are profiled as criminals.Michael L.

I was at the location and unloading; I finished 20 minutes after the place closed, and there was no way to drop off the key; the keyboxes were impossible to access. I left the truck, and returned with the key after they opened up, an hour after the key was due. The same person was working. I was charged over sixty dollars for an extra day. I feel that an effort could have been made to avoid this by the staff. No one was rude but I didn't feel that the fee was really fair, since the key boxes were inaccessible and locked shut with circle locks. She knew I was there and that I was dropping a key off the evening I unloaded; there were few other people there, and I see no logic for having keyboxes if they are going to be locked shut. The truck was turned in earlier than the due date. Next time, I will probably try Ryder.Heidi M.
The service at your Nitro West Virginia location was excellent. I tried twice to talk to someone at the Saint Albans West Virginia location and my phone call was cut off after being on hold for a while. You have to listen to too much automated stuff before you can just ask a question if you have a particular rental. I had to call back and start listening to the same thing over but when I called they Nitro location they were right on the phone and that's where I went and made my rental even though it was out of the way. if I wanted to use the online service I would have but I just wanted one question answered.I know your saint Albans location is a much larger operation but you still need to have a courtesy line for someone who just needs to ask the question. There are lots of people who still don't understand online services.HAROLD C.

I did not like the fact I had to drive 10 miles each way to get a truck, or the fact the I returned it 17 hours earlier then my due time. Funny thing is that if I'm an hour late upon fee return then I'd be charged. The gas mileage is that of a diesel. Location manager was fantastic and friendly the one plus to my trip.bruce B.
When I picked up the uhaul it was parked slanted, exactly how I parked it when I returned it. It makes for a really bad blind spot trying to pull off you lot with people heading towards the interstate way. I would recommend parking straight back not slanted!James E.

There was no clearly marked drop box. I placed the key back into the lock box because I wasnt sure where to put it. Any other issue I had was with the online phone based check in procedure. This location was great and had everything ready to go.Claude S.

Stop changing locations for the pick up. I placed the order a week in advance of my pick up date, the Friday before pick up it was changed to a place approximately 15 miles from my preferred location, while in route to pick up, it was changed yet again to approximately 10 miles away. I ordered an appliance dolly. The man who checked the moving man out to me left the office to take care of that and came back and gave me the key. I arrived at my moving site and had no dolly. I sent my son back to get it (Round trip of about 30 miles) . I was offered no explanation or discount other than he forgot. I realize this is a sideline for his storage and fireworks businesses, but I thought he would be more professional. This guy is not doing your reputation much good.Jerry S.
