Buckle up. Our pick up time was 10pm. The location for the pick up is one of the least safe in the city. We were approached by several different homeless persons for money. The bigger problem was a car and separately a man on a bicycle kept circling us and watching us. We were dropped off by a taxi and it took over an hour to actually get the U haul. We had no where to go and we felt so unsafe. We went inside the nearby Jack in the Box to wait for U haul to finally answer the phone and help us and a homeless person followed us inside with his cart. The U haul after hours system did Not work. It got stuck on the part that you add additional identification. The chat help system failed completely and no one answered the phone to help us for almost an hour due to "high volume calls." When someone did answer the phone they hung up or got disconnected in the middle of our call and did not call back even though they had my cell number. The chat feature started to work only to have someone text that we need to pay to get the U haul keys (I had already paid in advance). Finally, someone answered the phone after another wait and they said the first rep we talked to had marked our problem as 'resolved.' I am still so angry about that. We finally got the keys and left. The cherry on top of everything- I had paid in advance for a dolly and furniture pads and of course they were not in the truck. I called roadside assistance only to be told it was not their problem and I would have to take it up with the local U haul facility. Everything about this was a nightmare, I will never do this again. To anyone else considering after hours pickup -you've been warned.

The location stated that it was open until 7pm which was not the case. The person I reached out to from my invoice said this was a continued problem. We were instructed to park it in a lot with multiple other vehicles and since that wouldn’t be possible for a 20 foot truck. We parked it in a space with a bunch of trees that got smashed trying to keep the truck out of the thoroughfare. The gentleman trying to help was nice at least but it didn’t help that the location wasn’t open during the stated hours.

I will probably never use U Haul again. Terrible communication after initial reservation made. Not the first time I've been very disappointed with U Haul, but most likely will never do business with U haul again.
