The first truck I tried to rent was much larger and when I put in the brakes they didn't stop the truck right away. I got out and rented a different truck, a smaller one that worked beautifully.

The one star doesn't have to do with the location - it has to do with my uhaul online reservation experience. My experience with the process at the actual location was fine. I created a reservation several weeks in advance, then tried to switch to a bigger truck a few days before the reservation, and the change went through and was accepted online. Then half an hour later I received a voicemail saying that the other bigger truck was not available, that I had lost my original reservation, and I was switched to a different location and a later time that made a pretty negative impact to my sensitive moving schedule. I tried calling uhaul right away to try to explain my situation and was on hold for twenty minutes until I gave up and just dealt with the new reservation. This was a pretty frustrating and negative part of my experience.

Customer took care of 6 other customers interupting our service while we were in process of renting the vehicle. This is the second time they have done that. Vehicle had used blankets in it. It had not been cleaned from previous user since there was litter in it. Not good during Covid19. Will never go back.

Liquor store, feels very unofficial. Lady was rude, did not clearly explain what the total charge included. They did not have a dolly or furniture pads that I ordered with the truck. They kept breaking away from my rental transaction to help the liquor store customers buy snacks and lottery tickets on a different register.

i rented a van, but when i got there there wan't a van and i had to drive a truck. why does your website allow one to rent something that isn't there? i needed it for 4 hours, but by the time i got the truck i only had like 3 hours. the time should have been adjusted

The location is run out of a convenience/liquor store which opens an hour earlier than the U-Haul store (why?). I showed up early to my appointment which was at 9:30am. I went in and said "Hi I know I'm early but I did the early check-in, is there anything else I need to do in order to get the keys?" The woman who was the cashier told me she didn't know how to run the U-Haul side of the store so she couldn't help me and I'd have to wait until my appointment. I said no problem and waited the 20 minutes until my appointment. She then told me I needed a contract but wouldn't tell me how to get the contract. I told her I entered my license and credit card info through the app already and would sign whatever needed to get the keys now 10 minutes after my appointment time. I then called U-Haul and they spoke to her over the phone asking her to give me the keys and that I was all set. She refused and said I would have to wait until 10am which was 30 minutes after my confirmed appointment time of 9:30. I called U-Haul again and they offered me a refund. I waited until the stroke of 10am and when I went in, she was handing another man the keys to his U-Haul as he signed the ever elusive contract. I asked her why she lied and told me she didn't know how to help me and made me wait an hour at the store and 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment. She then asked me if I wanted the keys or not seeming to threaten taking away the service altogether. She was rude and unhelpful. When I got to the store at opening there were no other customers. At 10, there was a line full of people waiting behind me while I had to sign papers to get the keys. There is no excuse for such horrid customer service. She was rude and blatantly lied about knowing how to help me while wasting my time, putting me behind schedule and in turn making other customers waiting just to wait until 10. This location needs to either be under new management or closed altogether. The service is awful and I would rather drive the extra miles than deal with being behind schedule during a move and dealing with these rude people ever again. DO NOT USE THIS LOCATION!!!

Terrible customer service, the cashier went out of his way to be rude, uncooperative and truculent. I would not recommend this particular business to anyone, ever! I have rented from UHUl in several locations, Belmont, Ca, Los Gatos, Ca, and they would check truck for mileage, scratches, equipment, etc. They sneered when I suggested this, refused to do so, left dolly & blankets in the middle of the parking lot, upon my return they were the same, (25 min early) refused to view truck, mileage and returned dolly, 6 blanketss) grabbed the keys & would not give me 6 number code verification,(needed for UHaul moving men) -one employee finally jotted down an obscure tel number for me to call. As an experienced customer service rep, I always try to be a cooperative and helpful customer but they made it very clear that customers were not a priority.

The whole thing where we don't tell you where to pick up until the last minute then drive a couple of hours round trip thing the morning of a move was kinda shitty. The app was slow and clunky during pickup due to a remote location and spotty data coverage. Maybe offer WiFi for a smooth pickup and upload experience? I'm glad I won't be moving again for a while

This location was the most convenient for me. But, when I picked up the truck, I reviewed the check out paperwork and it said the fuel was at 1/2. It was not, it was really at 3/8. No big deal, so I went back in and told the guy and he initialed the paperwork and wrote that it was in fact 3/8. I returned the truck with exactly 3/8, like I got it. But of course, they charged me $29.06 for the “missing” fuel. I can't get a hold of any one to reverse the charge.

Owner provided (incorrect vehicle type) receipt and keys, period. Owner did not provide either an initial inspection or overview/basic use instructions of equipment. The Truck had major scratches on the exterior sides of the unit, undocumented. (Instinctually we photographed all, and submitted info to UHaul.) CoastSide Market is not doing the either customer or UHaul any favors by renting these trucks...very poor service.

Overall everything was as needed and expected. No surprises. Only issue was trying to return the truck with the Uhaul app, the location services did not work despite being activated on the phone. The service was poor, so how does this feature generally work in this situation?

New 15' truck with only 2115 miles, would not stay in lane at 55 to 60 mph going down I5. Drove only part way to San Diego and had to stop for the night and finish trip on next day. Plenty of power, just difficult to drive. Additionally, no cruise control, so an additional reason that it was difficult to drive long-distance. Truck would be fine for in-town or short distance, but I would do something different next time.

I was wanting to pick up the truck at a uhaul location and not a partner, so I could return boxes. This location only had 1 person working both the retail convenience store counter and the rental pickup which isn't ideal.

Can I give 7 stars? I have used Uhaul many times and this was easily the most pleasant experience I have had. Even though they are also a market place, the staff were pleasant, informative, and the equipment was the best I have ever gotten. For anyone moving coastside, I highly recommend this location!

No u haul person at site, but cashier let me drop off trailer. The person was scheduled to be there at 10 am, but was still not there when I checked back at 1:30. I documented return with photos, and did the online return, but did not receive any confirmation from U haul - it stayed within 24 hours which was two days ago

Successfully picking up the vehicle requires a cell connection. Moss Beach is known to locals as a cell 'dead zone', at least for certain carriers. I was barely able to complete the transaction when picking up. Upon returning the vehicle, not able to at all. I had to drop the key and hope for the best. How about free WiFi in the store? (I asked. No help.)

This was the worst service I have ever received by any company and I will NEVER use Uhaul again. First off, I was in contact with the Uhaul Moving and Storage of Belmont, CA and organized to pick up the trailer there before my trip. They called me a day before and let me know I had to pick it up at "Coast Side Market" in Half Moon Bay which was another hour from my house. When I was on the phone with someone at Uhaul, I asked if they would install hitches and the lights and they said they did so I wasn't worried but I got a hitch at Autozone incase for some reason they didn't have the right one... I then proceeded to go to "Coast Side Market" in Half Moon Bay and I was thinking I was going to a "Certified" Uhaul location. After getting there, I went inside to the "Manager" and told him I had a Uhaul trailer to pickup. I asked for him to come outside and look at my trailer hitch to make sure it would work with the trailer before we went over the paperwork. He hesitated and then quickly came to look and said I was good to go. We went inside to do the paperwork and fill in the info on the computer. He handed me off to his co worker (who could barely read or write in English) and she tried multiple times to input my info into the computer but failed EVERY time. I sat there for an hour repeating my info to put into the computer. Meanwhile, another guy came in to the market to pick up his 12ft trailer. He was already mad because this place was a dump and he had to drive to this little market that was very far from the original place he booked the trailer. Finally the "Manager" took over on the computer and figured out how to input the rest of the info.. After that, their "hitch guy" was outside and ready to put the trailer onto my truck. By this time I had already wasted 2 hours at this market and had to be somewhere else very soon.. Their "hitch guy" was moving slower than a snail and didnt seem to know how to install the trailer. I couldn't wait for him because he was moving extremely slow so I installed the trailer myself. They didn't tell me any safety info about the trailer and then told me I was good to go.. I wasted 2 HOURS of day at this Uhaul location and I am very disappointed. I can't believe you guys let illegitimate places like this represent the Uhaul name. I will not be using Uhaul anytime soon. Also, I only needed the trailer for 24hours and there is a 3 day minimum?! That is crazy. I did not want to spend that much money when I just needed the trailer for a day.. Just today, I got a receipt from Uhaul.. And guess what?! That "Coast Side Market" in Half Moon Bay sent me the receipt for the OTHER guy that came into the market when I was there and somehow the people at Coast Side Market got my info confused with his. Just RIDICULOUS! You guys have got to fix this, I don't want anyone else to go through the same experience I did.

The truck was not available in time for my appointment. The truck did not arrive until 2 hours after I was scheduled to pick it up. This was a major inconvenience in the middle of a move. Also, once the truck finally arrived, it had the check engine light on.

The process of picking up and returing the truck through the online dashboard was beyond tedious, I wouldn't recommend to anyone to do it that way ever. The truck was filthy in the cargo area, but I didn't realize this until we started loading it up, so I was unable to include any pictures in the pickup process. The truck had not actually been returned with a full tank, the previous renter had only put enough into the tank to make the gauge show as full, so I paid significantly more for gas than I used. I never received a final receipt even though my card has been charged.

The Moss Beach location is very convenient. I can overlook the less than stellar customer service but, I've been living on the Coast for 20+ years and never knew that a U-Haul location was there. Improved signage would be helpful.

I sent my son in law to pick up the truck I rented. He told me that there is a women there that was extremely RUDE. She did not do a safety check and ignored him for 15 minutes at the desk then pointed to the truck he was to take. No walk thru for damage of the truck before you rented , never discussed gas in vehicle. She had no other customers. She just pointed to the truck he was to take and that was it. We will NEVER be back. My son in law told me she should be FIRED. All are past experiences have been extradionary at other locations.

When I picked up the trailer, the man at the store got in his car and left. I had to pull the trailer out of a the space beside the store and install the trailer myself, without any help or instruction. When did this become protocol? I took it to the Redwood City location to see if I had connected it right, which I didn't. The person at Redwood City hooked the trailer ton my hitch properly before I made my cross country drive.

This market is way too busy and does not have enough employees to handle SELLING GROCERIES, REFILLING PROPANE CONTAINERS, AND finally the U-Haul rental... For example, I was the first one in line to pick up the U-Haul I rented—I was told to wait until everyone in line was waited on and then when I was reading the documents before signing them I was told to wait over there I have “real” customers here. I stuck up for myself and told the employee lady...Excuse me I AM A CUSTOMER...

The uhaul app did not work. We took the required photo of the back of my driver's license 4 times and it would not let us proceed. We ended up having to go into the store to finish the process (as did another customer who had a similar experience). The app was not helpful at all.

The location and customer service at the location was excellent. My problem was with the automated/internet pick up I coordinated. It did not work, and I ended up renting the truck by actually talking to a person, which I could have done in the first place. There was no warning that I would have to use so much data on my phone by submitting/uploading photos. As well as having to "chat" on the internet with a Uhaul representative, who ultimately did not believe I was who I said and proved I was. I submitted two photos of myself, apparently one did not ever go through. Also, there was no warning that there may not be cell phone service at the location! I was in roaming mode as well, which costs me money. This idea, while a good idea, needs a more direct approach. Such as automated locks that you need a specific code for that only the renter would know...otherwise, it was totally useless, and a very big waste of my time and money. I will not be utilizing this service again. And, if I can I will not use Uhaul. (This is not nearly the first time I have had an unfortunate experience with Uhaul.)

Your self check using a mobile device is a very flawed system and I would never recommend it to anyone. We were unable to be located due to signals and I am grateful there was a human being that knew what she was doing that could help us. Your customer service needs to have a way to verify someone over the phone so they can a key rather than sending me to a YouTube video. Overall the experience with your system was a massive failure and your customer service reps are ill equipped. Moving is stressful enough without your company's added and unnecessary drama.

Your check in process was NOT flawless and in the process I wish you would review my call to customer service because the information she gave me was incorrect causing a one hour delay with the check in, and she was rude and not helpful or understanding. I was upset not rude. But she was rude to the point of obnoxious, perhaps she should redirect her energies to collections instead. We finally got everything sorted out as the person with whom I spoke later in the day said this check in process was new and the person verifying our info was new. Even now I was the renter Ms. PATRICIA COFFEY. My brother was the driver...which he also drove for me in Nashville so you have a previous record of The same scenario. The confusion by your system is ridiculous. Renter= me.....Driver= Michael Newman..... Not a good experience with uhaul. Will probably go with a competitor for any future moving needs.

Basically it was a corner store that was 2 towns away from the location I requested. This resulted in an extra 45 minute drive (a favor from a friend) to get me to my truck. There was a poor voicemail broken english voicemail to inform me of the location change rather than an email or text. Also once I got there, the corner store owner made me wait for all the other customers to purchase wine, liquor and food before dealing with me. There were 5 non uhaul customers I had to wait behind before I could rent my truck. The store owner was rude and shitty.

Weak wireless signal in the area of the store renders the rental pickup a real hassle if you try to use the pre-arranged pickup process. You have to walk around trying to find even a weak cell signal to use the .com site, and if it works, it is very slow to upload the necessary authentication photos. Uhaul should warn people of this problem so they can plan ahead or use another location with adequate cell service, unless you want to pickup between noon and 4PM!!, apparently their "open" hours. Store workers have no ability to help. My pick up process took over 60 minutes and the promise of early pick up made the day before was unknown to clerk who works in grocery, not Uhaul. Finally, although the van was newish and ran ok, the INSIDE of the windshield was filthy and really a problem in the sun, reducing visibility and making the driving less safe. The rental site was closer to my home but really not worth all the trouble to use this location. The previous user left trash in the van, and the floor was dirty enough that you would not want to put anything clean like a mattress or carpet on it without first covering it with a tarp. Not good enough.
