Uhaul corporate call center helped me initially book/reserve a trailer from a neighborhood dealer and explicitly told me a trailer was available and would be reserved for me as long as I could get there before they closed, but really didn't know that the dealer had already closed early for New Year's Eve. Thankfully, the dealer contacted me via my cell phone and made himself available to complete the rental transaction. I appreciated very much how this dealer responded to my need, and if I was asked to give him a grade, it would be an A++! A few things I did not like about the transaction: 1. Call center required my credit card to book the rental and told me I would have a $75 deposit and then the actual charges for the rental would be deducted and the difference applied to my card as a credit...as if two transactions would be on my credit card. It did not transact as they described...if fact the dealer also needed my credit card, and then I was only charged once as he quoted to me. Not a huge deal but corporate call center needs to be better trained to explain how the transaction works or somehow be on the same page as the dealers so the process is aligned. Giving my credit card information over the phone is not the most comfortable method to rent/reserve anything. 2. Call center people were courteous and tried to be helpful but some of the info they provided was not accurate, such as advising me I needed a 2 inch ball for the trailer I was renting..later to find out that a smaller ball (which I already owned) would have worked...so I ended up spending time and money on equipment I really didn't need. 3. The call center never advised me that I would need a vehicle-to-trailer 4-pin extension wiring and appropriate 4-pin to 7-pin adapter in order to connect the trailer lights to my vehicle, and the dealer did not have this equipment to rent or buy. Call center only told me I could buy a hitch/ball from the dealer if I needed one, which I chose to purchase 2 inch ball separately. I already owned the adapter, but had to also spend extra time finding and purchasing the 4-pin extension wiring to safely pull the trailer with operating lights. In the end, I was able to accomplish the task I needed to complete with the trailer just within the 24 hr rental time/cost, but without the above hurdles it would have been completed much quicker and without some frustration/stress in the process. A suggestion to Uhaul corporate/dealers: find a way to provide/rent hitches, adapters and wiring (and provide the details/costs, if any upfront) to simplify the use/rental of equipment or trailers. Aside from the problems, I would recommend the dealer because he was accommodating and helpful. He gave me a follow-up call to help resolve my trailer lights/wiring issue before I started my trip.
