This experience SHOOK me and also put us over an hour behind on our move which completely affected the entire move and arrival. When I arrived at the car lot/uhaul rental I noticed the uhaul on a dirt/grass area. I also noticed the only way to get to it was to jump a curb. The lady who helped with the paperwork said she'd meet me out to help hook it up. She brought a man out with her and they first commented that the tongue was laid in the mud and I pointed out that the uhaul was covered in mud, tires also. A comment was made by the lady that its bc of who dropped it off and that it should have been put on blocks. When the uhaul was placed on my hitch, the lady turned it a couple half turns and the man said it was his first time hooking one up. He was playing with the hitch pin said he didn't know what it was and I told him it was a lock for the ball...he laughed and said "see you know more than me" (I had never hooked one up also). They had me test the brakes and blinkers. I mentioned the curb and asked if it was safe to go over it and the man said "oh you can fly over it". I pulled my truck with the uhaul carefully over the curb and turned into the turn lane to do a u-turn to get on 45. As soon as I went to make the turn the uhaul started violently bouncing up and down and I knew something was wrong. I happened to be on speaker with my husband and told him what was happening while I pulled to the side of the road (thankfully pulling through a busy intersection safely). I told my husband that the trailer was slamming into the back of his truck. When I got out of my truck, the tongue of the uhaul was detached and was several feet up under our truck. I immediately called the uhaul rental place and they said they would be over as soon as they could. A passer by stopped and was shocked at the whole situation. The uhaul people came and the passer by, who knew what he was doing, tightened the trailer to the ball MANY more times than it was done before. The whole time the guy from the Uhaul place was making excuses saying our ball was too small (although my husband had rented another uhaul trailer just days before with no issues) Due to this I had to turn around in an apartment complex and trying to avoid all the cars I kept jackknifing the tailer and was to the point of tears. I finally got it turned around I was on my way but very shaken. It made the 15 hour trip to our destination worrisome after experiences it coming unattached and how badly the whole situation could have been. Im still shocked that all of this happened. Im pissed too!
