The vehicle was dirty inside and out, a hand truck was still inside it from someone else’s move, mileage and gas were inaccurate, and there were numerous minor damages that hadn’t been noted in the contract. There were no license plates, so our delivery was delayed by an hour while a temporary plate could be generated and emailed to us. I hope this is the last time we have to rent a uhaul vehicle.

My experience was so bad I had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Uhaul's only response to my claim was questioning the distance of the nearby Starbucks - the nearest place with WiFi that I had to go to in order to access my reservation. The complaint is below. CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED! From the other complaints on here, I know I'm not alone. Complaint #1: My wife and I signed up specifically to rent our van with the "Counter Pick Up" option provided by UHaul. This reservation was changed to a mobile "Truck Share 24/7" the day before the pick up without our consent. The Counter Pick Up at this location also guaranteed a UHaul representative on-site. There was no rep. on site. Merely a parking lot attendant from MPT Parking who said repeatedly "I do not work for UHaul." Complaint#2: There is no mobile or wireless service on site. I have an AT&T phone service with an iPhone XS. The lot attendant would not let me use his computer so I had to walk 20 minutes to a Starbucks to access my account. I called UHaul to give me authorization to pick up my van. When I walked back to the lot, the attendant would still not give me the keys even though a Uhaul rep. said I could. This turned into a comedy of errors with me(with terrible cell phone coverage that kept disconnecting me) on the phone with someone from UHaul attempting to verbally explain to the attendant to give me the keys. He finally was able to get a hold of his boss(?) who verbally gave him permission to hand over the keys to me. There was no signage telling me that this was a Uhaul lot and the attendant there was not a UHaul rep. who said, again, "I do not work for UHaul." I was late picking up the van becuase of all this but there was no notification in our emails that you have to pick it up specifically at the scheduled time. I attempted to get in touch with a UHaul rep. for this area on three seperate occassions over three weeks. He only returned my call after I complained to UHaul management in customer service. His name is Shaun Douglass tel#: 718-522-4859. He said he would give us a $50 refund because I was late. I have already explained why I was late and that does not explain the terrible treatment I received. We have not received the $50 but I am asking for a full refund due to Uhaul deceiving and lying to me on what service(or lack thereof) I would be receiving

This was an awful experience with Uhaul. The Uhaul “office” at this location is behind a door that looks like no one has used it in 50 years, and there isn’t a single sign saying “Uhaul” anywhere. The door is beneath an old awning that simply says “parking.” No address number either. When I called customer service, they didn’t have a phone number to the office. I even asked someone working at a shop on the other side of the building after 20 minutes of searching, and they had never heard of a Uhaul office being in the vicinity. Also, when I finally located the office, the guy who was there just handed me some keys without checking my ID or asking my name or anything. He also gave me keys to the wrong van, which I found out while trying to complete my mobile check-in, at which point I had to go back and ask for the right set of keys. Combined with some miscommunication with customer service, the ordeal delayed me by around 45 minutes. All this said, I’ve rented from Uhaul once before, and my experience then was much better. But this particular location needs to be thought out a little better. Even a piece of cardboard saying “UHAUL” taped to the door and maybe one on the fence in front of the lot would have helped tremendously.

While it was great that this location offered 24/7 service, it was a difficult spot to do my mobile pickup. It was very cold outside (15 degrees) and I had to fumble for my driver's license and ID and take pictures, and took off my gloves to do that. It also didn't help that the area was not well-covered by cell coverage, lengthening the time it took to get the pickup process completed. Hence four stars instead of five.

I chose a mobile pickup experience but I still had to obtain the keys from a clerk. And since this was the first time using the mobile share option, instruction in how to obtain the car wasn't sent to me until after my pickup schedule time which cut off my rental time by 45 minutes. The person that called to verified my rental called after my rental time was schedule and was rude and hung up on me while I was asking a question about how do I get access to the van. The process could be more seamless, maybe you should look at zipcars rentals models.

I have a slight tremor because of medication and as such I had to literally retake each photo at least 6 times till it was clear. I would like the option to select a location that has attendants to check me in and check me out . I can say I will not book future truck rentals if I can’t find a location with attendants

The outside of the van was dirty. I also noticed another van that was dirty on the outside at the location. Since this location is an unmanned one a process needs to be put in place to clean the outside of a vehicle.

First, the survey sucks. Repaint your trucks with the information plus insurance, mileage and fees. Insurance was way more than mileage or fees. Insurance cost more than the 4 hour rental. And its not a daily rental. Its a 4 hour rental. Advice people in advance that they'll be using their phones to rent. Is that what Neighborhood Rental means? And if one has to rely on a phone, I assume there are parts of the arduous process that can be done while not in front of the phone.

I had a disastrous experience because the signal strength for my cell phone was poor.. This meant that I could not sign in to the app and go through the check in process. I appreciate that it is convenient to have more locations when you don't have a full U-Haul hub - but the Long Island city area doesn't have good cell signal a lot of the time OR it is overwhelmed by the number of people using the tower... I spent 1 hr and 15 mins standing around trying to get my vehicle. I had multiple conversations with your staff and they were polite and trying to help BUT the policy of having to put a call in to someone else to validate my ID (after I sent a photo AND my own Driver's license is ridiculous... (My wife just happened to be at the gym so wasn't on her phone and I am self-employed so didn't have fellow employees to have you call) SO then your staff asked me for my passport!!!?? I mean, really??? Why would I have my passport to go and rent a Haul van? I wasn't told any of this would happen before hand and it was my first experience renting - so maybe you should let people know what to expect!!!! Finally, I think the online check in is good but my BRILLIANT IDEA, to save you folks a lot of hassle and these nasty emails, is that ALL YOUR NON-OFFICE pickup locations MUST HAVE A DEDICATED WIFI installed with a password so that we, the customer, can ALWAYS LOG IN to check in at pick up.... I expect that my compensation for the hassle and the brilliant idea will save you a fortune, so I'd be happy with a 10% cut of those savings over the next 5 years. But yesterday, after an hour and 15mins trying to get my van.... I was irate.

The parking lot attendant was not helpful saying “I don’t work for U-haul “ , had to use help of customer service by calling while it was raining. The truck was good but no accessory equipment is available. When returning, in the review I mentioned non available equipment & was given a refund. Mileage was also inaccurate (drove for 7 miles & was billed for 17 miles). Customer service was very helpful though.

The fact that the operator did not warn me that this wasn't an actual uhaul site and that i had to cancel out my 1st reservation and manually make another it was too much that i had to go thru in order to get my van and the wifi in that lot was horrible i had to go to the post office with 6% battery on my cell that was so frustrating

This place is a parking lot and may feel sketchy if you're not familiar with the neighborhood. The two guys running the place don't want to help you because it's a self-service pick up location. And one of the guys was particularly rude when I told him I had ordered a dollie but it wasn't in the truck. He replied "go complain to someone else". I eventually left with the van using self service process and Uhaul removed the follow charge.

The new process by app is one of the worst experiences I have had.... it puts all the work of checking in and out on the driver instead of the uhaul dealer. It is difficult and burdensome and time consuming./ I can't say enough how awful the past 2 rentals have been.

So many people seemed to have issues with the mobile pick up process.... READ THE DIRECTIONS people, it was super easy. Many also complained about the employees/service, well the employee who was there was courteous and made sure I had everything taken care of for pick up and return.

I used the mobile uhaul app. it didn't provide me instructions on how to get the vehicle. I ended up going to the email and doing it through the browser. Then, that area had REALLY bad phone internet signal, so I had to restart a few times. Then when I finally got a good spot, it told me to find the car in a certain location, and it was 1.5 blocks away (not in the mentioned range at all). Once i finally got into the vehicle, it asked me for front, then back, then selfie photos. Then it asked me to provide a contact of a friend or family member. What kind of nonsense is this?! My family is out of town, and one friend happened to be free to answer. What if my friend couldn't help...then I wouldn't get the vehicle? Then once I DID get everything verified, I had to go back to the car garage to talk to a guy who claimed that in order to get the car, I have to do everything online and that he couldn't help me. When I showed him my uhaul driver name+id result, he gave me the key. It was cold, it was wet, the system wasn't working, and it took me 45 minutes to get the car on the road. I'm never doing this again.

There is bad customer service, not to the client but in the service of the product to offer. There was a huge difference between the gas in the paper and in the car, the representative did not handle the situation to present a solution, and there were extra charges without justification.

I would NEVER go back to this location. I was kicked out of the office, the person helping me refused to change my order (he didn't have the supplies that I requested) and I was still billed for them. I am still being billed by U-haul after calling 4 times. I will NEVER go back to this location, it was the worse rental I have ever experienced. Terrible service, the van was dirty, I didn't receive the supplies I needed for my move. Even after, trying to fix the situation with U-haul was a MESS and I'm still dealing with it as I am being charged for things I did not receive.

- They weren't expecting me and couldn't print out the contract at the office. They made me call the NY uhaul phone number who then did it all over the phone and emailed the contract to me - I received my final receipt 4 days after the rental, and found that the mileage was off by almost double (I drove 15 miles, the contract said I drove 27) - Because this was all done over the phone, the person on the phone added on insurance for $15 which I did not request.

No one answered the phone. They guy who handed me the keys was on the phone the whole time, and just pointed at a paper receipt he had printed. I tried calling the location to let them know I’d be late about four times and there was never a response. When I returned the van, a man in the lot just took the keys and said, “that’s it”.

I would NEVER recommend this location to ANYONE. There is no signage or address, it's filthy with trash everywhere. The man who was supposed to be helping us was rude and unhelpful sending us all over the lot and outside to the street in the pouring rain because he claimed he had no idea where the van was that we were renting. And even worse, he made lewd gestures towards me while my husband was trying to find the van that we were renting in the back of the lot. He also didn't include the hand truck that paid for but once I realized it, I was not about to return to the location with that horrible man waiting there to ask for it. My husband returned the van and we'll absolutely never go back.

Van was basically clean, however there weee still a few scraps of paper left in the cab, so it was not thoroughly cleaned. Internet connection was down when I arrived. It took over one hour to get the vehicle and I was under time constraints so I was not pleased. The agent at the location tried but I suppose in the end his hands were tied. I called customer service to try to remotely check in and was told it was not possible although the location manager subsequently told me it was. Nevertheless I was not remotely checked in and finally when the system came back online I was able to go. I have rented many times from UHaul, this was my worst experience however in general I am happy ... just not this time. Need better backup capability in the event of your system is down.

It was very confusing where we needed to go for the key. The directions should be more specific. We also had to wait for over 12 minutes for the first person to verify our picture and license. When we reloaded the page it only took about 5 minutes.

Pick-up service at the location was not great. Agent at the parking lot seemed completely unfamiliar with the U-Haul system and I had to make a few educated guesses to get through the rental. A few times he stopped what we were doing, and made me wait outside his office while he helped another customer at the car lot because in his words, "parking is 99% of what I do, U Haul is 1%, so when someone comes to park, U Haul waits." He abjectly refused to allow me to get the SafeMove insurance at the time and told me to call U Haul directly. I later did this and they made me go back into the store, and had to talk him through how to do it. They had to do this via my phone on speaker, because he refused to answer his phone. The whole pick-up process took over an hour and impacted my plans for the day. Really disappointing experience.

The pick up was 40 minutes late. As a result I got caught in the terential pouring rain while making my move. If the truck was on time, my items could have avoided getting so wet, never mind my clothes, shoes and socks. This was completely unacceptable considering I would be charged if I returned the vehicle late.

I had submitted and got confirmed to pick up the van at 8:00AM and was not able to get it then because Mutal Auto Park was not open until 9:00AM. UHAUL or Mutual Auto Park did not aware me of this and I had to wait for an hour until it opened. I got a confirmation email from Uhaul and called Mutal Auto Park to confirm as well. I called Uhaul and they told me I would receive a $50 credit back to my account and I still haven't received anything. On top of that experience the man who was working didn't know anything and was extremely rude. He didn't locate the van for us and told me to walk around and find it. He was very aggressive and saying rude commentary. My overall experience was horrible from the beginning to end. Reserved a dolly online 3 weeks before truck pickup on my moving day. Picked up truck and was told "we don't rent dollies." The rental agent told me he "couldn't do anything" he just "rents trucks, that's it." Then he yelled at me after I told him I reserved a hand truck 3 weeks prior. Furthermore, I called Uhaul's customer service line and was simply told locations where I could rent a new dolly (obviously for extra charge), not actually assisted with my problem. There was no consideration or help with my existing order and it was appalling to be dealt so flippantly by this company's customer service staff. The fact that your company allowed me to reserve a hand truck/dolly that was never available, and furthermore gave me no heads up that the equipment wasn't available so I showed up the day of my move to an empty truck is astonishing and ridiculous. Because the equipment wasn't with my truck, my move time was extended over 2 hours longer than previously estimated. I will never use your company again and will also tell anyone I know or with an ear all about this horrible experience and caution them from ever utilizing your company's services as well. Absolutely ridiculous in every facet of the service industry.

I stood for 40min in there office, that fit a max of 3 people. It was clear that they were smoking in there. The uhaul page would not let the attendant check me in for my reservation. The truck was not clean and I was given a truck with under 1/4 tank of gas. When returning the vehicle the man in the office was smoking a hookah and it was so smoky you couldn't see.

I was wildly overcharged for this rental. It appears that the "MI Out" amount is incorrect causing an inaccurate read of the "MI In" When I picked up the Van yesterday morning, 10/31 at 9am" the "MI In" on the Van read "5831." When I returned the Van yesterday evening, 10/31 at 6:45pm the "MI Out" on the van read "5837.". This means I went a total of 6 miles yesterday NOT 56 miles. My stops yesterday consisted of going from the UHaul pick up point in Queens, NY to 160 W 66th Street in Manhattan. Then to Ikea in Brooklyn NY and finally back to Queens. There is no way I drove 56 miles yesterday. Clearly there is a typo from the attendant at this UHaul distribution center. As you seem to have accurate records of your vehicles you should be able to research this incorrect information and see that it would be impossible for the last time the Van was rented (before me) for the mileage to have gone DOWN before my use of the van. You should be able to see the "MI in" from the previous rental before me to get an accurate read as to what the "MI out" was when I picked up the van. This would support my claim here that we actually only went 6 miles yesterday (staying in the NYC area) at not traveled 56 miles. I look forward to your speedy reply in this manor and a proper refund to my card for this incorrect charge of 50 more miles than was actually traveled). I am waiting to hear back from them at this point, but the rental Set up was for 19.00 per day plus mileage and they invoice sent to me was a blast daily rate of 125.00 plus fees pushed it up to nearly 180.00. this was not what I agreed to.

The dude serving the station keep repeating that the UHaul gig wasn't his job at all and that anything from changing truck (min was disgusting with coffee spilled everywhere, dirty with trash and left behind furniture wraps) was going to take hours because I had to call UHaul on the phone. The gas tank was NOT 3/4 as printed on the paper that he gave me and so I had to make up for the difference in gas not to incur in extra fees. The guy totally dismissed all my complaints, he did not make sign anything at pick up and nothing upon the return, not even the damage picture that usually I get when I rent a truck. Total disaster and give a bad name to your company. I'd love a discount.

As in the other reviews, the lot is almost impossible to find with no UHaul signs or even an address. Our reservation stated this address as the pick up spot however the attendant there told us the UHaul department was closed because the man who operates it is on vacation! When I called UHaul they told me I was supposed to pick up at another location; Van Dam St. There was absolutely no information on our reservation about this Van Dam St. pick up spot. I had to cancel the reservation. How can a major rental company remain in business operating this way?

It's a parking lot. The attendant is a nice old guy, but very very slow. I suggest going early. Also the tiny office is kind of a dump... I feel bad for him having to sit in there.

This is just a pick up location and not a U-Haul office. The person in the office has no idea about the contract or availability of vehicles or anything do with U-Haul. If a vehicle has been dropped off there, he will look up the reservation and process the rental and give you the keys.

We had to wait about an hour for the van as the person handling the paperwork said that he doesn't work for U-haul.

I am astonished that U-Haul permitted this sort of service. The man who provided me with the keys was ignorant of the reservation software, needing guidance from a coworker over the phone. At numerous points throughout the agonizing process, he blamed me me for not completing forms (I had), and for not understanding him (he was not clear). My efforts to be helpful were treated with contempt. At one point, after I expressed frustration over waiting for 45 minutes, he stopped typing, stood up, and informed me that "there were thousands of other U-Haul locations in the city, and that I was free to use one of them if I was in such a rush." Incidentally, I was not the only one this man treated so poorly. While he struggled with the reservation software, another man came up with questions about available U-haul trucks ("lucky" me, I got the last one). He was rebuffed, and spoken over, and needlessly subjected to a lecture about how the parking lot was over 30 years old. When this man tried to leave, the man who ran the lot insisted that the lecture was necessary "to understand the full context". Look, I get the merits of having these sort of "affiliated" locations. But choose your affiliates more wisely. This experience was a farce and a disgrace to U-Haul.
