Genesis FigueroaThe owner/operators were very nice people. Unfortunately, the wheel dolly I rented was a used up p.o.s. Their on line images of the dolly look shiny & new. The owner did make sure to point out the damaged fender to me & asked if I was OK with it. I've towed this car (A 2014 Hyundai Azera) several times with wheel dollies from U-Haul without incident. I had no idea this one was any different from the others I'd rented in the past. The "1st" problem I had was when I went to slide the drivers side loading ramp out. It came almost all the way out, then jammed, sticking out at an angle and I couldn't back the car off to adjust the car more to the right. It took me an hour in the street to fix the ramp. I called & the management very kindly did offer to send someone to help me, but I fixed it soon after speaking with them & called them back to let them know. I had "thought" that I may have pulled too hard on the ramp at 1st. It turns out that when you extend it to where it can be lowered to the ground for a car to drive up, it falls out. Now for the REALLY BAD part...When backing my car off the dolly, it tore the front bumper cover off the car, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. (NOT exaggerating!) I had to duct tape it on, while on our trip. Once we got home, It took the help of two of my neighbors, using two large jacks & two jack stands to get the car off the dolly. It turns out that the metal loops that the inner portion of the wheel straps attach to, underneath the car, stick up quite high & when loading it on, the bumper cover just pressed against them & slid over. I never heard or felt anything to indicate that anything had rubbed or impeded the car going up onto the dolly. The mechanic from the shop I picked the car up from, who helped guide me on to the dolly in the 1st place, didn't sense anything wrong either. But backing it off, those metal loops hook the back edge & don't let go! I didn't bother trying to address it with U-Haul. I didn't take the optional insurance, & it probably wouldn't have covered it anyways. I have NO DOUBT that this is nothing new to them & they've got themselves covered from most any angle. Understandable that they have to, because of people over the decades that have tried to take advantage of them with false claims. Regardless, it SUCKS. I NOW know that there are different wheel dollies they rent, & that some of them will tear your car apart if you don't have someone standing guard, watching every inch of movement of the vehicle as it goes on & off. It would be nice if U-Haul actually would do something to help with this situation, as that thing "probably" shouldn't be in service anymore, without some sort of warning about use with a more modern, lower car. But I just don't think they will. I'll still rent from them. Now that I know there's a difference, I'll just make sure I don't get some old P.O.S. next time.

She even walked me around the trailer and re-inspected everything to make sure everything was in working order and described how everything on the trailer functions. PATRICK WALLACEThis area is dark. No major signage showing that its the place. Dirt lot in a farm area with no bright lights for customer. Had to do my transaction with a small flashlight. Very dark seems unsafe with no information on the door only a lockbox and combination locks on a post. Doing the app at night seemed creepy had to look around to make sure I was safe. Will not go to this one at this hour again. Try daylight maybe when office is open. Looks like someone lives here in a side apartment that looked creepy.

CARLOS PAYANThe pickup location was fine. HOWEVER, I could not pick up the truck as scheduled. I called 2 weeks ago to make the reservation. When my wife went online to set up my account for the next day's pick up, it said there was no reservation. She called Fri evening and talked with Antonio. He said he figured out what the problem was and fixed it. When I got to the pick up location on Sat morning, and tried to log in, I received the same message. I stayed on hold for 50 MINS waiting for someone to help. My moving time was being severely impacted, as I already had all of the people helping me, waiting at my home. Thankfully, the people who run the business at the pick up location saw me sitting outside for an hour and came out to ask me what was wrong. When I explained that there was a problem with the reservation, AND I could not get anyone to answer my call to help, they invited me inside to complete my reservation manually. There is a HUGE glitch in your off hour pick up system and you should NEVER expect a customer to stay on hold for 50+ minutes waiting for a representative to assist them. I would probably not use UHaul again in the future because of this experience. And, I have been telling people about what happened so hopefully they can avoid the same issue. Very stressful and disappointing.
