the store is a pig sty. I was not able to check in on line and the check in process had to be completed in store. the fellow working is courteous and does his best. he did make sure I was hooked up and safe. I have a U-haul within one km of my home and had to drive 30 minutes to this one.David H.

The entire booking process was a fiasco. At the suggestion of the local agent, I created an account so I could book online and get my rental earlier than opening hours... they never sent me details about how to get the key so I waited two hours until openingâ€" and then another 40 minutes for them to do the whole registration process again in person. The owner/operator of the location isn't doing alright, he is clearly suffering from some kind of degenerating mental issue - it took a half hour of me helping him through his own booking system to book out a pre-booked trailer. I'm empathetic but someone should look into this.BRIAN B.
The vehicle was filthy, cigarette butts in the box, half smoked cigarette in passenger door handle, trash under the seats. Inside of window filthy, pass. side wiper not working. Smelled bad in cab. All instruments in imperial not metric. Location employee nice but the place is a pigsty. Yard is a muddy mess, trucks in disarray. Horrible experience.Brian S.
This location is not run well. The owner is disorganized and slow to respond. It took 45 minutes to get my truck after reserving it days before. I was there 10 minutes early, and finally got the truck out of there 55 minutes later. I was the second customer he saved that day. He constantly was stalled because he could not find things he needed to make the transaction for rentals. He was constantly making small talk while me and other customers were patiently waiting. Other customers just left because of the going show of service. The place was a mess. He had great difficulty managing the computer program to process transactions. Sorry I used this service. The end cost was much more then expected. I will avoid this business in the future.CHRIS G.
I know the clerk was doing his best, however we waited for 3 hours to get the truck, the store is a filthy, disorganized mess, and now we have to wait 4 to 6 weeks for an overpayment refund cheque, when I'm sure it is possible to just put it back on the card that was used. Incredibly pleasant and best of intentions are there but he clearly needs additional help. I waited an hour and 45 minutes to get my truck. He was out helping someone else but there was no one in the office to take his place or give me any idea of when he might return. The on line booking was for a 10-foot which was not available so I was given a 15-foot for same price. However the cost of the ferry trip was significantly more than if I had the smaller size truck so the overall cost to me was still higher.Hugh M.

This was the worst experience I've ever had and this was my first move on my own, but my tenth move overall. The owner was rude, didn't wear a mask or have covid precautions, didn't know how to run the program and required customers to help by pointing on the screen and risking other customers information. He was absolutely terrible at customer service and even yelled at us. It took me two and a half hours to rent my truck and he charged me for the time I wasn't even able to use it for. On top of that I was given a quote based on km and was charged in miles so it was twice as much as previously quoted. I will never return and I plan on forwarding his lack of covid precautions to those who need to know. By the time we were done there was a line up of six customers.Carmen W.
Read the online reviews of the place. It's all that times ten. Took three hours from the time I arrived to tow away my ramp trailer. I could of taken it done my job I needed it for and returned it in less time and I guarantee he wouldn't of even noticed. You already must know you have a big big problem at your UHaul on McFee in Courtenay BC. It took me 2,5 HOURS to get my truck, which I had already reserved! Others were waiting in line as well, and had the same experience. The agent is a sadly unprepared, disorganized person, who was overwhelmed. Everything was disorganized in the office, which was also filled to the top with piles of paper and crap. DO SOMETHING! I had two men, who I was paying to help me move, and I had to pay their wages while we waited, which cost me over 100 $. Our day was so much more difficult because of the delay caused by your agent.Kyle R.

To improve for the next customer...use a different dealer cuz this one is really difficult. I was registered for auto pick up, and I called the day before to make sure the key would be in the drop box. It wasnt. And it took 1,5 hours waiting for only 2 customers ahead of me to just get my key...and I had asked for it 3 times. My friend was getting a truck too, she was next in line after me (without auto pick up) and waited over 3 hours! This waiting was standing outside in the cold. Also 18 $of gas for 35 kms? The passenger side mirror wouldn't stay in position. The engine was revving really high with very little power.Laura A.

This place is terrible. I reserved a truck for contactless pickup at 8:30. When I arrived there was no way to get into the lockbox to get my keys. I had to wait until they opened at 10. I had 8 people at my house at 9:30 waiting to help. They guy was so slow. I didn't get a truck until 10:30. Do not rent from this location. It would be faster to drive to Nanaimo for pickup.Troy D.
Due to Covid Protocols picking up and dropping off rental took a considerable amount of time, but that is expected. Our rental was awesome and only makes me want to purchase an F-150 even more! (apparent opening time. not 10:20 with five rentals waiting in line at the door) Returned truck around 1:00, office door locked, knocked on the door a few times, but no answer. Actually rented through Kean Auto location. Were switched to McPhee location. Appreciated someone being there but he was a little disorganized......Was a little miffed that we still owed some $$$. Not sure why I couldn't have paid, in full, at the time of our on line booking. Truck was in good shape, overall, and just the right size for our needs.Robert W.
Did COVID start here?...looks like a bomb went off in the office! It took nearly two hours to pick up a truck that I already had all the info on including the truck number...truck was somewhat clean but I'd suspect that it wasn't disinfected based on the overall cleanliness of the facility. The attendant was very friendly and cordial but wasn't wearing a mask when he served me. From speaking with others in the line up, the slow service was the norm and after many complaints uhaul has done nothing. The other locations do not typically carry the larger vehicles so customers are forced to use this location. A rep from uhaul called me during my long wait to ask if I wanted to cancel my reservation and I said I was still waiting in line, she said you must be at the McPhee location and I laughed out loud...too funny. The pick up process took over 2 hours! Standing outside in the cold. Valuable time on a moving day. According to reviews this is typical. Why is this not being addressed? Also there was a uhaul centre 2 blocks from where we moved to that had room for our rental to be returned. Yet we had to take it all the way back to the same center only to wait again to drop off. This costing me 50 extra kilometers. Why request feedback if nothing done to change the poor service. Never again!Sandra F.

And behind the counter paper and garbage is just tossed everywhere. His computer skills need work as well. This was the worst service a person could get. Knowing it was near mid month I reserved a unit. I did the on line check in as suggested. When I arrived there were several customers waiting outside in the cold rain and were not let in because of the covid 19 issue. I stood in line for two and a half hours waiting to be served.. There was only one employee to serve and he was oblivious to the situation. It was close to 3 hours before I got served which threw out my schedule totally. One of the customers claimed this was the normal experience at this location from this particular employee. What can you do to improve .... staff according to the demand and set up a measuring system that tracks how long it takes per customer. Surely a customer should not be waiting hours!! and in the cold and rain!! It is clear that this location does not understand the term 'customer service' and the management appears to be uncaring or incompetent. Why do you survive? .... you are the only game in town.Carl E.

I would qualify my recommendation. I booked a Van online for 5:30pm. The closing time is listed at 6pm. I arrived 15 minutes early and the doors were locked which was a shock. Were my plans no longer possible? Going back to my car, I happened upon a gentleman moving other U-haul vehicles. He informed me that "No, I am definitely not the guy you are looking for" and "wait around, sometimes he just in the back". So, I - perhaps pointlessly I thought - waited for the guy to show up. At that point, I had nothing to lose. Low and behold, he showed and I was able to get back on my plan albeit, 45minutes passed my scheduled pick-up time.John L.

The pick up was the worst experience I have ever had at a business in my whole life. This is not an exaggeration. We waited for 2,5 hours to get our truck. The man who was running the business was clinically insane and told us that he was going to "grab a gun and blow his brains" out all over us. He was extremely agitated, stressed out and unwell. He was totally unfit to be in customer service. Having U-Haul associated with this business reflects extremely poorly on U-Haul. I would never, under any circumstance rent from here again.KEVIN E.

Lot has poor accessibility. Too many rental units for lot size. Can't drive off busy street to safely maneuver trailer. Agent was thorough but probably could use help as the facility itself was cluttered with various items. Looked like a candidate for the hoarders show. Agent had difficulty taking a picture with the ipad. Requires more training or different equipment. Agent was pleasent enough but couldn't handle the customers in a timely fashion. Took 1 3/4 hours to pick up trailer as the yard was packed with returned Uhaul trucks I rented from this location only because they had a trailer.Ralph G.

The location did not offer off-time pickup. After getting there when they opened, there was a line. We waited for one hour and a half and only four people were ahead of us. We checked in online and so we only had to get the keys, but there was only one employee and so took forever. Me and the others in line were so incensed at the wait that we all vowed never to use UHaul again. Please tell the McPhee Courtenay location to improve. We waited for an hour and a half before getting our truck. And HOUR AND A HALF! That in its self is unacceptable and rude. Moving days are busy stressful days and that added much more stress and time. Our whole day was delayed. The truck was dirty and disgusting inside and out (which is a covid-19 no no). Which means it hadn't been sanitized and is unsafe. You can be reported for that. I had to wash my own window after stopping for gas just so I could see where I was going. The truck its self was uncomfortable but thats to be expected with these kinds of trucks. The transmission felt like it was going to give out on us which was another thing to add to the stress on our stressful day. The after hours drop off at the new location was confusing but easy once the instructions were found. Overall I'm very disappointed, frustrated and disgusted by this whole experience.
