U-Haul instructions not very clear how to return moving blankets or dolly when returning using 24/7 truck share. Just had to go in and ask the gas station employee.

Location was not a UHaul location per se. Rather a busy gas station where the gas station personnel were also UHaul providers. They did not have the right to sign out accessories like blankets or dollys, so had to call in the request and wait for someone to give the ok. Also, the key for the truck was in a lock box an the customer (me) was required to create the contract over the phone, receive it over email, then I was given the combination to the lock box so I could extract the key. I was not familiar with this 1980s approach to vehicle rental and therefore had to spend some time to first understand what needed to be done and then get the information to make the calls and complete the transactions. The attendees went out of their way to be friendly and helpful, the issues I'm expressing are NOT with the help, rather with the companies way of doing business only. If you can tighten up how you are running this location, it would work well, but you should do your homework to be sure everyone is trained as they need to be. Equipment was in ok condition, but windshield had road residue on it and we had to clean it up a bit. Wheel lugs were rusted, so not a good cosmetic look. I did get the necessary blankets and dolly required to make my move because of the extra help from the attendees and their telephone company contact, so that went smoothly. I will use UHaul again, but would appreciate a amoother transition between reservation, to vehicle assignment, and pickup. I was told once I made the reservation that a vehicle might not be avaiable locally, that I may have to pick it up in the "Bay Area" which is located as far as 100 miles away. I was then told that the real pickup location wouldn't be known until the afternoon before scheduled pick up. I was not called the afternoon before, I had to call you. Then I was told when to pick up. This troubled me and still does. It's amateurish and almost made me look to another company because of the added pressure of whether I would have a truck or not in time to move when I needed to. That's about it. Overall, I would rate you about 75 % on the outbound.

This is not a good area and a homeless person was in the back of another uhual. The lock for the pickup was not working and gasstation tendent broke the lock. Called customer service just to be hung up on then told to drive to monterey to pick up uhual. Finally I got someone who helped me from a different service area because my service area rep never answers.

they should have better customer service and be willing to help customers when questions and concerns come up. There was no one to help with questions at this location and when prompted to call the person in charge he told me to watch a video. I ended up figuring out that the reason why I was unable to pick up my rental was because of the time scheduled to pick up, when he had told me that I could pick it up whenever I wanted. Had to change time of pick up in order to be able to mobile pick up.

When I returned the truck the people working there did not know what to do. A woman called someone on the phone who had her check the mileage and gas and he gave her a phone number and e-mail on a small post-it note to call for a receipt. I promptly lost the note somewhere waiting for my ride home. There was a homeless mentally ill woman pacing back and forth where I parked the van and it is a terrible part of Salinas. Did not feel safe standing on the corner. Also, I was charged for extra miles even though I had to go an extra 12 miles to get the truck and then another 12 miles or more from my house in Marina to Salinas to turn in the truck. Not a great experience all the way around.

This is a mini mart and gas station so timing for the U-Haul could be an issue. We were early and when the U-Haul staffer arrived, we were able to get right to the contract and pick-up of equipment. Very nice lady and very helpful. She made the cell phone process very easy.
