We had booked uHaul for self pick up, we reached this location and noticed a big gate, and dial pad across it to open it up. I could see our truck parked inside around 30 40 feet far. I launched my u Haul app, and started process to pick up the truck. First thing it asked do you see the truck inside/outside the gate. I said YES. Next thing it did ask is - "Is there any damage on truck marked with X sign!" How am I supposed to see that on truck parked so far ! I could not get in, as we did not have code for the gate. We called u Haul a bunch of times. First call - they tried to call manager of this place, who was supposed to give me a call with the code, who never did. s+Second call - u haul representative told me cannot get in touch with the manager and I will have to look up MYSELF other places who can give me u haul now or pick up next day morning. We then tried calling secure self storage number printed on the wall, first rep gave us a code which did not work. Second rep directed us to u haul and no one picked up, third call, same story. By this time we were rally mad and cold, it was raining - next call to secure self storage got us in touch with a sensible representative. She told us the app would ask for our picture, licence picture to verify the identity and then release the gate code to us ! Dang ! I have no idea why other representatives could not tell us that !!! I have no idea why the app is not intuitive either ! We ran into one more problem, it does not say anywhere reservation has to be on driver's name ! I reserved the truck and my husband was added as driver, so truck could not be released. They had to remove him as driver, add myself. I had to re-login into app and then redo everything. This rep was really really nice! Stayed with us through entire call, until we got the keys and truck was released. To summarize,it was a painful experience, and we spent like an hour just to pick up the truck ! I hope UHaul would make their app intuitive, tell users in the beginning of pick up process when and where the gate code is. Also train the representatives for this scenario better!
