All the employees at this facility were very accommodating with all the steps to proceed to getting the equipment we needed and then returning, excellent group of employees.

Joseph HI have experienced this so many times, but well worth repeating. The old saying, "When the cat Is away, the mice will play". I have witnessed this so many times in other businesses. However, not at the Urbana, Illinois U-Haul Philo Road location. Even though the General Manager is off duty, the other staff members work as hard and care as much as the General Manager does. I was sitting in the store waiting on an Uber and both listened and watched as the evening staff carried on, assisting customers and checking in equipment, preparing each unit for the next rental. I AM ALWAYS IMPRESSED WITH THIS LOCATION! With so much negativity in our world today, I will always provide a shout out when I see friendly and caring employees, This location is like a family who has been carefully selected by the General Manager as each one cares just as much as the GM does. I rent a Cargo Van each week to pick-up supplies for a future outreach ministry called CHRISTMAS CREEK FELLOWSHIP and this location and staff are a joy to work with each week on the check-out and return. Thank you Paris, you are a blessed young lady!
Robert BThe online return van process is a nightmare. Specifically the only browsers offered for IOS are Safari- which I do not use! It's an app programming issue. Too many steps. Verification process in account set up on app offered selection of text OR email. That option is not offered when signing back into the account. Too many photos are required. It's cumbersome

Basil DEverything was perfect for my needs. I only required an outside unit and I was able to access It easily, and the staff was quick and helpful both on my move in and move out. This was exactly what I needed for the time. My only suggestion is maybe expand the WiFi signal to reach the outdoor units. That would have been very helpful at my move in when my cell phone service was temporarily disconnected and I'm sure it would benefit many other guests too. Otherwise everything was perfect!

HASSAN APlease ensure that equipment is fully functioning prior to release. This is the 2nd location I went to after the first location's brake and turn signal lights did not function on the trailer. All of the staff was extremely helpful and made a quick turn of an unfortunate situation.

Russell R | Expérience généraleThis location has been very good to me. Paris has trained her staff very well and THEY CARE! I have witnessed them several times cleaning the interior of the vehicles. I appreciate this so much that following a recent snowstorm, the van had a lot of salt on the exterior, so I ran the cargo van to the car wash yesterday and sprayed it off, both soap and water. Plus, I returned the van with a little extra fuel. They have assisted me many times and I just wanted to return the courtesy. NOTE: Cargo Van BE3254N: the third brake light above the rear cargo doors needs attention as reported to Zachary. Thank you Paris and staff for a job well done. I know not all customers appreciate your hard work, but I do!

Robert BMy U-Haul agent was very good at multi-tasking, but the truck gas gauge was on the extreme low side of full, the mileage did not have a 1/10 odometer, only full mileage. The truck I had was off full before I got on the road, and the odometer turned to next mile before I got out of the parking lot. I felt the truck got terrible gas mileage, just over 9 mpg. The engine light was on the entire time I had the truck, and the drivers door had to be slammed to latch. The U-haul agents I worked with were very nice, polite and apologetic.

What makes the difference, the entire team of associates assigned to this location being led by a General Manager who cares about her staff and her customers. I have witnessed first-hand how the staff follows her lead when dealing with unsatisfied customers, working the issue through to a fair resolution. When visiting this location, treat them with respect and respect is what you will receive each and every time. I have been visiting this location since the day it opened on South Philo Road in Urbana, Illinois and it continues to improve each time I walk through their doors. It is the employees who make the difference!

Matthew MBefore the location on University Ave shut down for renovation. I came into their business a month prior to them moving all U-boxes, requesting that my U-Box be moved to the location on Philo Road in Urbana, IL. My U-box never arrived there. I talked to someone on the phone regarding my U-box and that's when I was told my U-box was in Decatur, IL. Their only concern was about their payment. I told them I wasn't making a payment due to not having access to my belongings. I made sure I had paid my monthly bill on time every month, including insurance fees. However, several individuals from this company that I had talked to several times regarding my belongings were not concerned with the fact that they were in the wrong to have shipped my belongings to a location that, for one, I did not comply with being at that location and two, having no access. Then I received a letter in the mail and an email stating they sold my entire U-box for a hundred and something dollars. Which is BS; I had brand new items in that U-box, valuable pictures, and not to mention my product line of care products for my business. I was so upset on the phone with these people due to their lack of care and concern regarding my items and their errors and not wanting to rectify their own mistakes. I just told the lady that JESUS would handle her, the company, and this situation for me because he does not PLAY about me and got off the phone. I still DECLARE and DECREE that JESUS will handle this situation for me because this is not right and is terrible customer service and business. I do not think I will ever use their services again. Signed an angry black woman.

What is amazing is the leadership which causes the entire staff to serve as if you were dealing with the General Manager at all times. For example, when checking out yesterday, I dealt with the General Manager (Paris) who is always friendly, this means the world to me! Then after finishing up early picking up and delivering supplies, I decided to return the van the same day even though I had reserved it for 24 hours. The General Manager had already completed her day and it was as though she was still on-duty. The two young ladies I checked the van back in with were excellent with five-star customer service and were as friendly as the General Manager. In today's world, you simply do not see this and when I do, I WILL TELL THE WHOLE WORLD OF EXCELLENT FIVE-STAR CUSTOMER SERVICE at a particular location. Another issue which is important to me, a CLEAN fleet of vehicles and when the weather is cold outside, I do not know how they do it, but the vehicle I am always assigned is always CLEAN! One last comment, the friendliness, the cleanliness and the attention to detail with even the small issues this location provides is better and more loving than you will find in many churches located in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Maybe the Pastors and congregations of those churches in CU could learn a few things from Paris and the entire staff at the South Philo Road location in Urbana, Illinois!!! For the U-Haul Corporation: With General Managers such as you have for both the "main" Urbana and Champaign locations, make sure you provide them with the tools they need to be successful. You are already constructing a brand-new five-star state of the art facility in Champaign and that is awesome. Retaining the same location on the north side of the University of Illinois, excellent decision! However, do not forget about Urbana, keeping it looking as brand-new as your Champaign location will be. Time to evaluate the main driveway entrance off of Philo Road and the entire parking lot as a whole. Maybe time for resurfacing and fresh yellow lines on the pavement. Also, when I returned my rental van last evening at approximately 5:15 pm, the exterior of the entire property was completely dark as well as the U-Haul sign on Philo Road. As I was parking the van underneath the canopy check-in point, the canopy lights did come on as I parked, but only the canopy lights. For the safety and security of not only the equipment and customers but for the staff as well, may be time to have a licensed electrician to evaluate the exterior lighting for bulb and/or fixture replacement as well as checking the electric eyes and/or timers to make sure they are all working at peak efficiency. After 30+ years of managing passenger transportation companies, I cannot stress enough the importance of "more than enough" exterior lighting. I comment on all of this because I want to see U-Haul and it's CU staff succeed to the highest level possible. At this time, I am not impressed with PENSKE nor their choice of location and therefore, I choose to support a company who truly cares about their customers and solely focuses on relocation and storage services. In a world full of negative, thanks for allowing me to communicate positive. You can never go wrong with showing kindness and respect FIRST. Watch and see what happens when you do. What a different world this would become and remind all of us what we once had many years ago.
Robert BPricing was different than what was in my online reservation. Took over an hour to fix (staff member was nice though). Then after loading, it rained and my belongings got soaked. Had to offload, attempt to dry and then drive the trailer back for replacement. No compensation for time, water soaked furniture, etc.

Mary LI needed the trailer in the morning before they open so had to pick up the night before. I picked up at closing time and did not use the trailer that evening, but it still charged me for an extra day. I think this is nonsense.
Ray BThe store was clean and much larger than what I had expected. Some confusion with the drop-off. There is a sign that says to stay with your unit and a member will come out. I waited 5 minutes and no one came out and I had to go in to complete the drop off. Better communication on how to complete the drop off, either via email instructions or someone actually coming outside to complete the process would have made this a 5-star review. The staff was courteous and helpful and I would recommend this to family and friends.
Ken PThe agent was not trained very well and did not know how to do certain transactions. This caused my credit card to be charged ahead of time instead of at the drop off location as I was told. I requested that the charges be split between two credit cards and she had no idea how to do that.

When I arrived to remove my travel-trailer, I discovered that my weight distribution hitch (and the locker I used to store it) had been stolen. The weight distribution hitch is a towing-safety device, so losing it isn't good for anyone. Also, the thief left the lock, my hitch pin (stored inside the box), and a coat hanger on the ground under my travel trailer just to send me some sort of message. If you'd asked me a month ago, this would have been a five-star review -- but I was paying U-Haul for a place to park and at least video surveillance of my stuff.

Which meant I had to push loaded carts through the push door and almost injured myself. Because the employee had a line of people, got told to take my turn in line. While understandable, I wasn't there for a NEW service, but just to have access to my storage, which I had already paid extra for and which should have been available at the time, which was AFTER 10am. Over the years, I often wondered why I was paying extra, when the drive-in garage often malfunctioned and I was even trapped in the garage once. If I had a dollar for every time I didn't have full access to the features I was paying for in the climate controlled storage, I would probably have at least $100. No exaggeration.

My dad has had a unit at another facility for over 20 years and has never had either so I know it's possible to prevent. But that has to do with construction, not service. My interactions with the staff were good and they were always helpful.

There was another customer very upset and the person trying to help didn't have a clue but told us they were tearing down the units and we could not rent. It would be wise for the customer service people on the phone to be advised.

However, the parking spot I rented was not as described. I rented a "10X20X99 RV/BOAT/VEHICLE/PARKING OUTSIDE LEVEL NO CLIMATE NO ELECTRICITY", but the spot was about 20' long, not 99'. The 99' long spot had been impinged on by a box-truck which was taking up two spots. I was able to fit my 25' camper into the 20' spot by overhanging the curb, so it's fine for now - but my future plans involve storing my tow vehicle along with my camper. I would like to move to a spot that's the length descried in the line-item (if possible), or rent a second spot (if I must) some time in the next few months. We live in a university-town, so I imagine that the pressure on storage will be greatly reduced after the university starts in the fall. I will revisit this issue issue after Move In is finished. The current setup works fine for now. Again, I have great things to say about the employee who helped me with the move-in process. She explained everything clearly, and was on-top of the issues and the paperwork, and knew the state of the parking spots and was able to explain the situation to me. She provided great customer service. I will, however, need more great customer service in the future when I need the amount of space I'm being billed for.

The information from the employees at the actual facility in does not line up with what customer service is saying. The Philo street employees are extremely rude and impatient. I'm going to send an email to corporate about this facility because I had the same problem last year. The customer service department was great. Luckily I was able to get a unit and move in but I felt like l had to do this almost a month early because of the confusing information coupled with the rude employees. I'm glad this is the last summer I have to use this place. I will share my very negative experience on social media. They really suck at that location but the facility itself is very nice.

You can make a reservation but it's not guaranteed because multiple people can reserve the same unit and you won't be notified that you don't really have a space until the day you go to secure it, which is the day you need it to be told, that day, that it's not available. This should be corrected on the website ASAP! Otherwise I had a very good experience because things were explained to me. All I can say is don't blame the folks at the local uhaul because it has to be fixed by the people upstairs.

When I actually got there, I was told that the smaller unit was all taken. The only the larger one is available and the manager offered me a discount. If I only leased it during the summer, that would have been fine. But because of Covid, the unit was leased for 15 months more than the anticipated. My suggestion to you is not to lease the unit when you don't have the unit. If you did, you should be able to honor it as the smaller unit price.

Therefore, in spite of how clean, safe, and accessible the unit was, I am still frustrated that I ended up having to pay a late fee for my storage unit. When I did the initial paperwork in the office, I understood that I was signing up for automatic payments. I also never received a bill by email or postal mail in advance of my monthly payment date. It was incredibly frustrating to find out that I'd incurred a penalty fee after the fact. Whether or not the misunderstanding about autopay was strictly my fault, it is poor customer service not to send a notice in advance of a monthly charge. All other companies provide this courtesy. I feel that I was taken advantage of by UHaul, and will not be recommending UHaul storage to friends and family.

My only disappointment was with the intake staff person who conveyed some impatience or unhappiness, spoke too quickly and seemed to resent my need for clarification and instructions, avoided eye contact, walked ahead of me to the check-in area, and gave the check-in key card and lock to my friend, rather than to me. This dampened my enthusiasm, but I was otherwise glad to find this unit nearby (and without a fee for the first month because I had driven a U-Haul Cargo Van to Urbana from Galesburg, Illinois, as part of my relocation plan.

I understand the rat traps as a precautionary measure but I was very worried about the dead roaches. I asked an employee to sweep them out and he did! However, I am still very uneasy about leaving my belongings there in the event that more bugs are there. Additionally, my access code for the building only worked if I did it 2-3 times which was quite frustrating.

My access code to arm/disarm the alarm never worked and the alarm sounded every time I opened my unit. Service was slow and communication with uhaul reps vague. I wasn't able to move into my unit on the day scheduled because a uhaul rep failed to book my moving truck for the correct time, and when I had to pick up the truck at 6 they didn't inform me that offices closed at 7. I was frustrated and disappointed with the lack of basic communication.

Tanya K | Online Move InI was referred to the Southgate location after stopping at the Champaign U-Haul and was told by a polite gentleman that they were sold out of storage units. I arrived at Southgate and the older male behind the counter offered to assist after the store manager had to call him to return to the front counter while she assisted other customers. I requested a 5x5 but was told they were sold out and the only other option was a 10x10, which was double the price. I told him that I only needed to store a few items from my daughter's dorm room that were in my small SUV just until August 22nd. The store manager told him that he could give me one of the 5x10 units that was reserved but he ignored her. I asked if I can wait for the store manager to handle but he insisted that she would tell me the same so I proceeded to reserve the 10x10 for nearly $400 and no free lock if I reserved it online. I asked if they could accept $299 since they had a bunch of 10x10 units open and no smaller ones but he said we don't barter. I told him to cancel the transaction so I could proceed to reserve it online only to find that I could reserve the 5x10 unit and pay for it plus receive the free lock. The male then huffed and asked if I was asking him to cancel the transaction that he just entered for the past 15 mins as if I didn't lose 15 mins of my time and he wasn't still getting paid to talk about his life in San Diego. I said yes! Then the store manager turned to him and politely said "that's what I said you could do for her earlier". Needless to say, this would be a poor rating of it weren't for the store manager and I would highly suggest you place reservations and pay for them online in order to avoid being up sold and overspending
