Monday morning while enroute to McKinleyville, I had to re-route due to the closure of CA Highway 3, which added mileage and hours (6,5 hours total) to my transportation time. I got to my rental in McKinleyville, unloaded what was staying, then reloaded everything going to storage, I fueled up the truck and headed to Uhaul arriving at 6pm. The app, website and the door stated open until 7pm... the storage stated open until 10pm. The one employee that was there argued with me and told me that all those times were all "misinformation" and that I would have to pay to have the truck another day and I couldn't check in to the storage unit. I ended up having to pay an additional $116 and pay $200 for people to help the following day. While the road closure was beyond control, I was within the hours stated on the website and app... to be rudely told that I couldn't check in and return the truck was just plain wrong and added to my cost. I have used Uhaul many times, this was absolutely the worst move I have experienced. The employees that assisted me on Tuesday were considerate, the employee on Monday was NOT!!

Why not just walk around with a person and look at the van together when you start instead of the text message and all that I had to do on my own. It seems like you're putting more and more on the customer. I don't enjoy working with you all as much as I did in the past.
barry snyderI am so impressed by the staff at this U-Haul location. I got there late due to packing up and traveling from far off location. The guy manning the storage unit that day 2/10/23 stayed until we were able to pack it all in. I wish I could remember his name. He really went over and beyond to help us out. I truly appreciated that. We were working as fast as we could to unload stuff from the truck and we got it all in. Thanks to the staff at this U-Haul storage place I was able to get all moved in. The place was clean and well lighted. I just wish that the hours were more convenient for accessing the unit, i.e. later hours as I work late till about 6 PM and would like to be able to get stuff from the unit after I get off work. I am soooooo grateful that we now have climate controlled storage units here where I live. It is truly a necessity due to the cold, damp weather here.

The staff member explained clearly and thoroughly, and was well-mannered and attentive to my questions. The same was true of the [different] staff member at check-in. However, at check-in, the staff member stated that I would receive an email detailing the final amount that would be charged for the rental plus mileage (I had restored the fuel level to beginning level.) I have not received that final-charge email.
Ann KilbyMy destination was not available but after my footwork, and not McKinleyville's uhaul, I made it happen by speaking to the destination personally myself. McKinleyville also overcharged my rentals just prior to xmas. I filed some paperwork and got my money back. Their letter response to me was degrading and showed no accountability. There are good employees with good intentions at McKinleyville uhaul but training is needed on their computer skills and resources.

Ashley DunbarThe truck I rented got 6,5mpg rather than the 12 advertised online, it smelled like cigarettes in the cab, and the gas gauge was not accurate, leading to an extra $55 on my bill and an extra $20 I spent on fuel. Additionally, I was charged for an extra day and had to catch the charge on my receipt and call to change it. Customer service seemed good at first but getting charged twice what I was expecting was a big bummer.

John BryantI reserved a 15foot truck and all that was available was a 20foot truck which I had to pay full price for instead of the 15foot truck I reserved. I was not told this until the day before my reservation, which was Friday and all locations with a 15foot truck were not open until Monday. I also had extra fuel in the tank upon returning and did not receive any kind of fuel credit for that. I am overall displeased with the service.

At this I was now aware that what I thought were scratches, were actually gouges in the side of the truck so my stuff inside got wet. Uhaul sucks. The guy started tell me that I might be liable for damages to the truck. At that I explained that if that was the case I would see him in court. Finally, near the end, he acknowledged that all was good and I was not liable for any of the damages. Never will use this company again. I will twice as much and be happy driving a nice clean truck in good condition. Crapy company offering lousy service. And don't call me, I don't want to talk to you.

Joseph BaldwinI had reservations for 15 foot truck at euerka store since there was none in Rio dell or Fortuna. So I had to go 25 away then they over booked so they was no truck available. So they Said Arcata has a truck another 10 miles away. So now this is 35miles out of my way one way . They said they would give me a discount on miles at the Arcata store. But the Arcata store said they couldn't do the. So by this time my daughter found truck after I aready left the store so I returned the truck without using it and was charged full amount.

Then when I brought it back, it also took a long time and the clerk tried to charge me again. I had to tell him I already paid. So I hope employees will get more used to the system so they can be more efficient.

michelle worleyUpon arriving, staff had issues with their connection to server to complete the initial rental process. They were saying the next page wouldn't load for them on their website. This led to a 10 min or so delay. Upon returning the vehicle, there was a 1 staff member helping a new rental, and a 2nd staff member on the phone with a customer. 2nd staff member finished phone call and didn't acknowledge me, instead continuing to type/click on computer. A third staff member came off lunch break. 1st staff with customer at counter instructed 3rd staff to go get the vehicle desired by counter customer. 2nd staff member got up and milled around until 1st staff told him to help me. This was another 10 minute or so delay. Seems like with 3 staff and 2 customers I shouldn't have to wait to return vehicle.
Brendan BriskerI have rented vehicles 3 times in the last few months my only complaint is with the gas policy. It is very hard to gage the gas to return when it is not rented full. the first rental was 3/4 then 1/2 then this last time was a little over 1/4. It is much easier to rent and return a full truck. I feel that the current practice actually costs the customer more money I have personally donated about 1/4 tank of gas over the last several months

KENDALL PATRICK KANEI reserved a storage unit in person the end of July. When I arrived on August 15th to move in, they couldn't find my reservation. I was told to return when the manager got in around 11am to resolve the issue (I was frustrated, but patient). When I came back at 11am I was told the manager was out of town until Friday. Long story short, they finally got me a unit. I paid a months storage and moved in a few things. I noticed a rat bait trap inside my unit. Surest way to chum in vermin is to place bait inside individual units rather than the exterior hallways. I changed my mind, moved my few belongings out. I attempted to get a refund, but the manager never called me back. The staff is not well supported by management. I do not recommend this storage facility.
