I reserved the van for 24 hours, thinking I could load it on the first day. However, the van smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, so I didn't want to leave my stuff in it overnight. This made me 25 minutes late when returning the van, and I was charged an extra day fee of $19.95. I don't think it's fair to charge me extra when I couldn't load early due to the cigarette smell.

There are glitches with your text notification services synching with the physical check-in/rental process. It causes some irritation on the side of the customer as when interacting with the representative in person the pickup process is complete once keys and signed contract are obtained. However, your automated text system still sends messages telling the customer that further steps need to be taken to complete the process. In my case it was received well after leaving the physical location.

Get rid of the 1-800 traffic center. They are the most rude, uncaring people I've ever encountered. I had my reservations for over two weeks from a location 5 miles from my house. The day before I was to pick up the truck, I get an email saying my reservation had been moved to another location approximately 30 miles away, When I called the 1-800 number in the email, the lady in the other end was horrible and should find another job if she is that miserable. When I asked her what the purpose of having a reservation was, her response was "to move your stuff". How ignorant and unprofessional. The experience went down hill from there. The best customer service I got was the actual face to face encounter at the pick up and drop off locations. Other than that, the entire reservation process was absurd. U-Haul is NOT providing the same customer service that they did of years past.

Horrible customer service and I was overcharged for mileage. The door on the storage unit was broken and wouldn't stay up. There were rodent droppings and urine stains on my items. The store closes before the closing time stated on the door. Trucks constantly being parked blocking the entrance to the storage units. The entire building is built on the edge of a steep ravine and is now tilting sideways and looks dangerous. I would never rent a truck or storage there again.

On this particular truck, the 10' truck, I had to make sure it wasn't in tow/haul mode, every time I started it it went back to that mode. Otherwise a great little truck easy to drive and you can get things in and out of it easily. The staff at this location is great. Gas station is next door to top off the gas. Very convenient location.

Very rude customer service here, and I was over charged for mileage. I was told there was no point in disputing the charges. This location closed before the started hours of operation also. And they lock the gate so that current customers cannot get to the office from the inside which should not be happening. Overall I was very unhappy with my rental experience. Also I was told there was no large truck available however I drive past this location every day and saw several large trucks there each day that I had needed the rental and those trucks didn't move so that was a lie.

The actual paperwork process took way longer than I expected. The desk person had to re-do the transaction three or more times before I could leave with the truck. She said it was the system not working properly. Other than that it was an easy rental and return process.

The rearview mirrors on the driver's side and passenger side were both broken. That is, neither the U-Haul attendant nor I were able to rotate the mirrors. There was no other 10' truck available, so I took it. However, all day I had to lean forward or backwards or side-to-side whenever I wanted to see the traffic behind me.

I think there is a bed bug problem there. I found bed bugs in my mattress after I moved my stuff back home. I'm afraid that there may be an infestation in nearby units. Somebody brought them in.

Noting. The gentleman (Eric?) manning the location on 9/23/23 at 10:00 am was awesome. Super helpful. My experiences with U-Haul have been very hit or miss and his customer service was excellent and made this an easy transaction. Kudos to him.

We had a flat tire and it took over three hours to get roadside assistance there after several technicians and several phone calls we had to track someone down. I would have hoped UHaul offered some sort of compensation or at least an extension of three hours of the rental but we didn't even get an apology.

This U-Haul location provided the best experience for moving needs and everything we needed was readily available from trucks, vans, large rental unit, packing supplies as well as available carts to easily transport our belongings from vehicle to unit and vice versa. The Hwy 280 Mountainbrook location is by far one of the best locations to handle all of your moving needs. The staff was very professional, friendly, helpful, accommodating and very reliable. U-Haul Moving & Storage Of Mountainbrook will always be our 1st choice for any future moving needs and we highly recommend this location. The reason I might not recommend this location is because it's a difficult intersection to get out of and you can only head one direction on the highway. Also, I was rented a truck with engine problems but was not advised of that. I couldn't get the ignition to turn over. I had to get en employee to start the truck and he said I had to press the break down and juggle the steering wheel. He started it for me and the engine light was in. But then when I got to my pickup location and turned off the truck, I couldn't get it restarted. I had to get one of the movers I had hired to help and she said she could do it bc she had worked for UHAUL before. But she said there was really something wrong with the ignition. By the end, when it was time for me to take my last load, it took her 10 minutes to start the truck. I couldn't fill it with gas because I couldn't turn off the engine. I called the store to tell them and they said, oh, yeah, they knew that about the truck. Well then why did they rent to me?!

The control panels to gate to enter and exit the storage unit area are oddly situated to where the client has to exit the vehicle to enter the code. It would be a great convenience to the clients to have the ability to access the control panel directly from your vehicle. Although very secure, driving or walking underneath the unit entrance lift-gate is a bit unsettling to me. But overall, I had a seamless experience.

The lack of customer service is atrocious! Especially the older lady in the office. Who rolls her eyes and doesn't even speak back but sucks her teeth at you. Coupled with the high incompetence level I am surprised y'all are still in business. From the moment I rented the unit there were mess up after mess up after mess up. Not once has anyone apologized or even tried to resolve or compensate me for the additional money I had to pay due to the staff's failure to complete tasks properly or even apply payments correctly. They either ignored me all together or told me not thier problem. I will never us U-Haul ever again.

I returned the uhaul seven minutes before closing. I wish I had wait until the store was closed. Upon entering, the representative entered from the back of the store. She sternly asked, asked how may I help you? Sensing this, I said you are in the middle of closing aren't you? She sternly repeated her question again. I told her I had truck to return. I handed her the key and. There was no thank you, did you have any problems? Nothing. As I was walking out, the employee said, you'll get an email in 15 minutes. That was it. I did not expect her to praise me for renting a truck. I did not expect her to make conversation. I guess I just expected a thank you or at least have a safe trip back. The employee was flatlined, no sign of emotion. Not a good representation of your company (I hope). I will probably call another rental company the next time.

I purchased a climate controlled unit and upon viewing, I noticed the building was very warm. Upwards of 90 degrees. I specifically told the guy showing the unit, manager Eric Bailey, that I needed a unit that was climate controlled due to my products that would melt and spoil in warm weather. Eric assured me that the air conditioner had been fixed that day and the building would soon cool down. I took him at his word and purchased the unit. A few hours later I returned and the building was warmer than before. It actually was hotter in the building than it was outside and it was mid 80s outside. I called the 280 Uhaul office and spoke with a girl there and she informed me that the air conditioner had been broken for 2,5 weeks and still wasn't fixed but should be fixed by tomorrow (today, Saturday). This means that Eric wasn't forthright about the building air working and sold me a unit under false pretenses. He wasn't honest about the conditions of my unit and I had to spend the rest of my day moving my items that would melt and spoil from that storage unit to another one at a different facility. This took up time I needed to do other things and now, I'm going to have to take off work again next week to move everything from that unit. This is a major inconvenience for me. I paid for a climate controlled unit and that's not what I got and I am requesting a full refund. I called Uhaul customer care and informed them of this issue. I was told that they are doing what they can to handle and that someone would contact me next week.

Everyone was amazing. I had to help my daughter move her apartment and Eric was friendly. Latwantha was very informative and friendly and I didn't get the other young lady's name who was there but she was extremely sweet and helpful. Everyone needs a formal recognition for their amazing attitude and work ethic.

This is the place to store items because of its LOCATION ON 280 and 459 only A QUARTER MILE AWAY. ALSO THE SUMMIT IS JUST ACROSS THE ROAD AND A LARGE SHELL STATION IS ON THE STORAGE LOCATION.

My storage unit was suppose to have my lock in it and it did not so now I have to pay for an additional day rental on the U-Haul equipment. Also I was suppose to get the first month free with my truck rental but the system charged my credit card.

Back gate doesn't ever work with key fob. I also had to call and get set back up on auto pay because I was taken off when the price increased but nobody told me it would do that. I also have to apparently come back in and sign a rent agreement on a unit I've been renting for 4 years which doesn't make sense to me.

I reserved the unit well in advance and wanted inside, first floor, however we ended up getting an outside unit that was very dirty with an area in the corner that clearly leaked water...we told the staff and took pictures before we moved in, but they said they didn't have another option. At that point, there was nothing we could do since we had to move out and had a truck full of our stuff!! Then, when we moved out of the storage unit, our belongings were visibly filthy and there were bugs in the unit and in our stuff. We were not surprised, since the area that was wet when we moved our stuff in was never repaired, and was open for bugs to get in. Also, horrible customer service! Whenever i call, it rings forever, like 20-30 minutes, and eventually goes to the central UHaul number, not the actual location! If we can't get an inside, first floor unit next spring, we will not be renting from you again! We rented the year before (summer 2020) and had no problems. Our unit was an inside unit and very clean, no bugs. We were super disappointed this year!

The day of my check out I went to the office and told them I needed to check out, the employee asked me my unit number and said she would contact me if there were any issues. The month goes by, didn't hear anything and all of a sudden I'm getting emails saying I'm late paying my storage. I'm sure she forgot or just didn't bother closing my unit out. After just moving this was not a stress I needed added on..

Minor issue when I was checking out. They wanted to look at the empty unit after I had moved out, and when I notified them that we were out, they were too busy to look, but promised to look later and let me know via email if there were any issues. Imagine my surprise 4 days later when my C card got auto billed for the next month charges. They fixed it right away after I let them know, but if I hadn't caught it I'd been out another $190.00. Holly was super friendly and helpful.

The current Manager is poor. Bathrooms are filthy, no soap, sometimes no TP. Lights out in hallways and unit. Cars parked everywhere limiting movement. Six years in that unit and I left due to her.
