I needed to park a trailer for 24 hours here at this uhaul location because we are doing a out of state move, I called 2 weeks prior asking if it was okay they said yes the day comes I go in let them know the male employee says okay no problem just let me know when the trailer gets here and I'll tell you where to park it.. the trailer was only going to be there for 24 hours. When the trailer arrives I'm not allowed to have it parked in the lot because they do not do that and they already do not have any space for their own uhaul trucks. I told them I already got permission from a male employee.. She said well whoever you talked too wasn't supposed to do that and she wanted a name of the person who let me know I can do that but unfortunately I didn't get one, whatever so we ended up parking the trailer across the st and had to walk across the street multiple times moving our stuff out the storage..

The person to install the hitch did not come in until 1PM. I got there at 11:30, which I was encouraged to do, and wasted time. Clearer schedules should be done with appointments; also saying between noon and 6 PM is too wide a window!! Otherwise, good work!

I went to this location to rent a 20 foot truck the first truck they give me has all kinds of lights on the dashboard on I went back inside and they switched the second truck once I pull from the parking spot has a big damage on the driver side skirt they switched again and the third truck has water inside at that time I already spent 1 hr in the location so I ended up taking the truck like that

There was a tall African-American man working there. He was very rude and uncalled to me. The female that was working there. She was very kind and helpful and she had a line and he did not help her.

While checking in via uhaul app, it was not as easy as I had hoped and we needed assistance. The customer representative was courteous and helpful. Unfortunately, we were told we had to call "e alert" , I think that's what it was called, and we had to wait over an hour to get through. This was completely unacceptable. We ended up working it out on our own, but it was a waste of precious time.

Calls to your 116 Whalley Avenue New Haven, CT location were painful. Bad telephone connection, no appliance dolly. I rented from your1175 State Street New Haven, CT location and they were excellent. They are the one I rated.

I called uhaul 5 or 6 times over the course of 2 - 3 weeks due to charges that i should not have received. The services are great overall, but the billing system needs serious updates. Why am i being charged for tolls on a ubox order or double charged for safehaul? Additionally, being transferred back and forth to figure these items out is very frustrating. At this point, I've given up on trying resolve the payments, $8,5 for i don't know what was charged to me 1 or 2 days ago. Its not worth it...steal the $8.50.

Unsafe and dangerous installation of hitch and wiring on my 2016 jeep compass. Corporate U-haul does not provide training to workers who install hitches and wiring. Corporate Uhaul has excellent videos on Utube on the correct installation of Curt hitches and wiring for many types of vehicles but they clearly do not use these videos to train employees that install these. My 4 pin install had the power line to the battery going directly over the rotating left rear axle and the wires were loose and not tied down with zip ties.!! II repaired these flaws myself when I installed the 7 pin. If not fixed the wire would have worn out from the spinning rear axle and the trailer lights would have failed. Also the right rear headlamp popped out 2 days latter since it was not re-connected correctly. I had to purchase new plugs to install properly myself. The rear plastic bumper was "hacked" off about 1 foot to accommodate the hitch. It looks terrible. In the videos for the 2016 jeep compass a little measuring and marking before cutting results in a nice clean installation. Once again, it's clear to me that Corporate U-haul does not provide sufficient training to workers that are trying to do their best job. On a good note, the office staff and the installer were friendly.

The staff at 1175 State St in New Haven Ct was the best from start to finish. The only issue I have is that when I first came there I didn't see any signs of pest but upon moving out there was a disturbing amount of mouse poop which was disgusting and better pest control measures need to be taken. Otherwise an overall good experience

The truck's wheel was low on air. The doors also had problems with the sensors. I had to really slam the door for the open door sensor to turn off.

Great staff. Very helpful. The only downside is the 26' truck didn't fit inside and had to be unloaded from the parking lot. It would've been more convenient if the building's contractor made the entry way clearance height tall enough for all the trucks they rent out.

No complaints on my end,it's been over 20years since the last time I used Uhaul and when I went this time the rep was very informative and answered all my questions and any doubts that I had. Employee's were great,location was good also. Easy in and out....maybe only thing would be your return app for android was not working,I had to use my son's iPhone to proceed with the return. That's about the only thing that didn't go smooth.

The location charged me for an extra day. They were very rude when I called to inquire about the extra charges. They said they would refund me for the day as it was a mistake on their end but I never received any confirmation and when I phoned back many times that same day they did not answer my call.

i left my wallet with all my credit cars and 104 in cash when i swapped out a truck at closing and only one person moved the truck when i cam in in the morning to see if they seen the wallet the rep who swapped out the truck search the truck and my cards were there but the money was missing and i know exactly which guy was working that night beside the female so if I'm there first thing in the morning and my cards are were i left them but the money is gone then we all know the male took it no happy about it at all

I anticipated that moving beloved family heirlooms from CT to CA was going to be a logistical and financial challenge. (I've been relocated many times for work, and it was always a nightmare!) I have nothing but the highest praises for everyone at U-Haul that I dealt with. Their customer service was excellent as well as the crew that dropped off and picked up my U-Box. I highly recommend them and would use them over and over again!!!

The customer should have been informed that if your rental return is after 5pm, you would have to assume the customer service role to finalize the rental. It took 15min and I was charged for 4 extra miles but not refunded for adding too much gas.

Nothing was wrong with the customer but mobile pick up did not work. Claimed I picked up my truck at 10:04 when I did not because I could not. Truck was not where the app said it would be and the key was in an employees pocket. Picked up the truck half an hour late, because of system error. Luckily the employees at this location were knowledgeable, friendly and understanding and extended my time.

I fell your manager, did not respond to me. He said he had to pull the camera also I wasn't notified for the auction the mice or rats ate up a whole bunch of my stuff. I'm going to a lawyer I would never rent from there again.

The only issue we had was the panel in the U-Haul truck was broken and my brother in law didn’t know it was broken and fell through it and twisted his knee , we reported it and they weren’t helpful about it.

Storage unit was fine, workers were not. Workers are very incompetent and messed up my unit reservation and payment numerous times. I had to go back in person 3 times to get my payment fixed, and they still couldn't figure it out. Would not recommend.

State St Uhaul in New Haven, CT staff is unprofessional and lie to their clients. I would never recommend nor step foot in that store again. They never answer the phone so when dealing with a problem you talk to customers service more then the store. Manager never there. The assistant manger is ridiculous, a scammer, and a lier. I used uhaul for years and never experienced what I experienced at that store at any other uhaul stores that I have rented from. I would recommend other stores but never Uhaul on state st in New Haven.

The storage manager, Ricardo Rivera, was outstanding!! He was friendly, professional, and very accommodating. We arrived at the facility late, after closing time, because traffic was terrible (coming from D.C.) Luckily, Ricardo was still there and agreed to stay to check us in and make sure we were able to move-in that night. We SO appreciate his graciousness!! Long distance moving is very stressful, and his kindness made it easier!

Excellent service and the Uhaul staff who helped me was very friendly and helpful. However they did not fulfill my unit reservation, and I was forced to upgrade to a bigger unit for a higher price which was unexpected and unideal. So keep in mind that your reservations will not be honored and it is more on a first come first serve basis.

The day I moved my furniture from the facility; January 26 or 27, 2023, had all my paperwork ready , paid the cashier. I was ready to go to my storage unit. I continued to get a bill in February & March, for a bill I had already paid in full. I was being harassed constantly. Had charges added on, etc. in all the years I've dealt with U-Haul (30+ years) this is my most embarrassing moment ever. My bill was paid in full before I even left. And have my paperwork up to date.

This storage facility at the time I was a renter was very unprofessional. There were dirty bikes riding through the facility where I rented my space. When reported to the front desk they looked at me like I was crazy but never addressed the issue, clearly from how they looked at each other they knew these dirt bike riders. Shortly after that, the lock was cut off my unit and mostly everything of value was stolen out my storage unit. When I inquired at front desk about security footage, they told me there wasn't able from the angle of my unit, in which my unit was the second unit from the front door but okay. I moved out soon after due to the issue from this storage company (early 2022) but not before they allowed someone that was not on my rental agreement pay the amount owed to access my unit. They kept charging me long after I was already gone. I'm in better situation where I don't need a storage any longer but I wouldn't use them again if I needed one.

Moved out for property damage due to rat infestation in storage unit. Had to throw out mattress, clothes and computers due to damage from rat droppings. Currently in contact with management to see resolution, but until the rat issue is solved I cannot recommend this storage facility for anything other than furniture.

This facility is overrun with mice or rats. We stored some machinery we inherited and it is absolutley covered in mouse urine and droppings. Also, many of the wires have been chewed. We even put out traps and deterant for the mice and it didn't seem to help. We also had issues with water and flooding regularly. Any time it rained there was water everywhere. We will NEVER use this facility for storage again.

I ran into an employee. I wanna say his name was Michael or Mike? Even though the online instructions were clear, I was a little bit confused about scanning into one door and then actually accessing the building via the other. He saw that I was lost, so he came up to me and walked me through the process. He then escorted me to my unit (I didn't even ask him to do so - super kind/considerate). He opened it for me, got me my lock (and opened the package for me, which was great, because I didn't have a box-cutter), pointed out where the carts are, etc.. He really made it so seamless and easy. I felt like he gave me a VIP tour. I'm grateful he found me and took it upon himself to help me get acclimated! He was very friendly, too - ran into him a couple more times that day, and he checked-in to see if I needed help. I hope I got his name right, because he was AWESOME! This was around 7-9am on 10/12. One of the best customer service experiences I've had, which is especially crazy, because I didn't even seek out his help. Okay, I'm done gushing now. He was dope.

I completed the Online Move In process and added my husband as an authorized user, however when my husband was at the desk and gave my name, maiden name, contract # and etc. our reservation could not be found. It took the gentleman substantial time and my husband calling me back for additional info to find the reservation and once opening the unit there was no lock present (as stated in the agreement).

I was very disappointed with my experience with U-Haul. I reserved a unit online only to learn that, despite my reservation, there were no units of that size available. The manager assured me that he would apply a discount to the unit because it was more expensive than the one I had reserved. But he only applied it to the first month. I had to call several times to get the discount applied, as discussed. When I returned to the unit, all of my belongings were covered in mouse poop. The rodent issue was obvious given that the facility, when I returned, had a significant number of mouse traps in the hall way. Staff clearly knew about the issue but did not notify me. The manager told me that he would send me a complaint form, but I have not received it.

I would not recommend this place to any friends, family, or prospective customers. I've had issues moving in and out and still waiting to hear back about an unresolved issues. Reservations mean nothing here. I reserved a small 5x7x10 to store my belongings and when I get there I am told no such unit exists and the only small one they had cost me $30 more. I had no choice but to pay the extra because I had all of my belongings with me ready to move in. Moving out was an even worse experience. I let the facility know that I this was going to be my last month staying and that once the month was over I would no longer need my unit. I had paid for the rest of the month of august and moved out progressively. Unfortunately, they took this as once I sent the email I was completely done with my unit and they went ahead and threw away ALL of my stuff in the storage. Not once was I contacted and when I went to the unit to pick up my belongings they had already sold the unit to someone else. Luckily the employees there agreed it was a miscommunication and I filed a reimbursement for all of my destroyed and discarded items which quite frankly had a lot of value to me. I am still waiting to hear back from anyone at uhaul and it has been such a stressful process for me.

Almost every employee was rude (one noticed that others were being rude and did better). Employees are aggressive to customers if they have issues. The facility "accidentally" moved me out of my original unit just a few days after i got it and before I even moved in; then persisted im being rude to me even tho they made the error. They offered me "a couple months free" to make up for their error but still charged me, bc they aren't organized or consistent. Use another storage facility so you don't have to deal with this one.

Upon my arrival I was at the desk waiting for service. I just had one issue. This was regarding the power outage and the inability to access the elevator. I had to move out of my apt. that weekend and was unaware the elevator was down. I think management should have emailed those with units on the second floor or just do a mass email regarding the issue. I had to make last minute re-arrangements. Although I noted bait stations in the facility, there is nonetheless a rodent problem. When I retrieved my goods, there were quite a lot of droppings, even though nothing in my storage unit would remotely be considered food. But in terms of things within human control, the facility was excellent and the staff was super attentive and helpful.

No one really knows what's going on. Multiple staff errors. Missing equipment. Not organized. Keys don't work. Chaotic. My unit got a move out notice a few days after I moved in. Had to keep sorting out issues w them that should be smooth and seem less. Was given 1 free month as an apology but you already get a free month if you rent equipment. Wouldn't recommend this facility. Too bad bc the location is nice.

Only issue that I have is that I had an reservation for $104 Storage area and when I got there their weren’t any more for the price so we talked and they were saying how they where going to get me one, but less expensive and less space which I am find with he said he’ll give me a month free for the inconvenience so I didn’t pay no mind(which I should’ve) when I packed all my stuff in the storage area and left and looked at my papers it says $150 which is more than I was expecting to pay which I thought they they where giving me a lil space will be going back to change

Average self storage and was as expected. Did notice the smell of a decomposing rat or mouse somewhere in the walls that was a bit off putting. Also, the exit door broke and with a 15' truck, backing out a oneway or maneuvering a three point turn may not be easy for some renters. And upon vacating I was told that I needed to turn in the fob and lock to the unit, but my wife bought the lock and is dismayed I had to turn it in when we paid for it and should have been ours.

Loved the facility and everything it offers. I found the staff to be rather unpleasant. There were many issues with my reservation that they weren't able to solve or willing to offer suggestions. When they couldn't find my reservation (even though I provided them with the reservation number, my name, and number, they just kept saying I didn't reserve one and wasn't able to get it. So once I asked to make a new reservation they finally said they had one available (and wouldn't you know it was the one I'd reserved). Then upon checking out, I needed to clear my unit and there were no furniture dollys available (actually only 1 mattress dolly that couldn't move my couch). I think one of the perks of renting with uhaul is the access to moving equipment. None of the staff were willing to help me look for a dolly after being asked multiple times. They actually just stared at me in silence at one point. Overall, I would go with uhaul again but not at this location.

There is a very, very loud "ear splitting" alarm that goes off on a regular basis. Maybe every half hour or so. I will be spending a significant amount of time in my unit sorting things and it is very unpleasant to endure that noise.

Sadly my Viki flat screen TV was stolen from my unit which I kept locked. I paid for insurance for nothing, because in order for theft to be covered there needs to be "physical signs of break in" but unfortunately I don't see any physical signs of break in. I am disappointed that someone stole one of my possessions. The tv remote was still there when it came time to move out, but my tv was gone and there's absolutely no other explanation than that it was stolen.

I moved into my storage until at the end of the month. Within 2 weeks, I was continuously emailed and sent notices of being behind in payment and threatened to be locked out of my unit. It was still not time for my 1st payment. The system had me documented as being in the wrong unit and wrong size. I was told this was updated. I continued to receive late payment notices. Then I was locked out of my unit. This all happened before my 1st payment was even due. I returned to the state st location a 3rd time for my account to be fixed. They did my contract all over to make sure everything updated. Being locked out of my unit is unacceptable and not a great experience. Currently looking for a new storage location.

Staff is completely unhelpful and do not follow any of the official procedures. They did not respect my initial reservation, so I had to pay for a storage facility twice the size and the cost than what I needed. The storage room was very dirty and with debris. They didn't even mind to clean it up for me. Upon move out, I did the online checkout because it was out of business hours. They did not attend my check out request and I was still getting notifications of rent due, etc. It was not until I went in person, three weeks later, that they completed my request. Worse, they didn't even check again if I had actually moved out, the guy just clicked something in the computer. So disappointing!

The staff have always been helpful, however, the email below written to the GM remains unanswered since 8/15/21: I moved out of my storage unit 1052 this afternoon and was appalled to find not only rat droppings on some of my belongings, but a dead rat in my unit as well. It's evident there are traps everywhere including in the units, but I had to throw away a sectional sofa rather than risk potentially bringing a virus into my new home. What is the U-Haul company policy when it comes to vermin? To my knowledge, there is nothing mentioned in the storage contract, therefore, I am kindly requesting reimbursement for damages to my possessions. Please advise in terms of next steps. This contract was a nightmare, it was supposed to be 90 days maximum. My daughter was supposed to pay the thing while I was away, when I returned the price was so out of control that I allowed them to take the item this was over a year ago. Now all of a sudden finally they have taken the items but they sent me a bill for over $3 000 trying to get me to believe that I was liable for it. Never will I recommend this particular facility to anyone.

I came back to my storage unit to find dead mice everywhere. The current tally is up to 5, but I still have a few boxes to go through. Several items of sentimental value were destroyed by these mice. Of the items that weren't outright ruined, many reek of mouse excrement/decay, and will likely need to be thrown out. I do feel badly for these mice, who had to spend their final moments in such an unclean and unwelcoming establishment. I only hope that they found some solace nestled in the shreds of my old t-shirts and childhood memories. The infestation aside, U-Haul employs some really predatory billing practices, making it extremely difficult to pay your month's rent in advance of the due date. They then charge you if it's late. After a very frustrating phone call in which I was blamed for not using the "Future Pay" option (no such option exists), I was told my late fees would be waived if I enrolled in AutoPay. I begrudgingly acquiesced, but have yet to see a refund credited to my account (it's been a year). Avoid their storage services at all costs!

I made three different reservations using my credit card for your storage facility and when we went to show up to put the items into storage, my reservation was given away. It was told to me, that you only take a dollar to hold the box however, I don't understand why I just couldn't pay for it. I spent a lot of time on the phone booking another unit with a very well mannered employee, only to find out that giving her all my credit card information didn't reserve a unit. Fortunately they still had a unit available and I was able to purchase again for the third time only with my uncle being inside the location unlike the other two locations who sold my reservation to someone else. Very long exhausting experience. I ended up with a truck from one location and a storage from an entire different location. Not sure if I'd recommend this process to anyone? Let's see how my items hold up in the storage facility爛

Cool place. Guy behind the counter when unit was opened up looked like he was having a bad day but other than that was a good place to keep my things in between moves. Y'all should have a more direct key drop place for the online truck pick up as the arrow just points to an open door.

Had to wait longer than necessary. Staff might need training on how to interact before during and after verbally. Nice people just could have used more interaction rather than watching them watch a screen for 10-15mins

When we got to the location, it was not clear how to enter. There was not a clear way to get into the garage part other than asking the attendants to open it for us. Once we got to the storage unit itself, it had a tag on it that said "ready for new customer" but it also had a lock on it. So we had to get the attendants a second time to take the lock off for us. They were all extremely courteous and professional. I had to ask one to put his mask on up over his mouth and nose. He did so without hesitation after I asked.

The state st Connecticut office was excellent but the 1 800 number scheduled me a truck then canceled my truck minutes after my reservation was made without informing me. I went to the state st store and was informed there was no trucks. They tried hard to find me one im other stores but could not. I had to cancel my day n replan for the next day. It was a very big inconvenience

Reserved a 5x5 unit, but when I arrived, none were available. I was given a 5x7, only to walk to the unit and find out that it too was taken. Finally, I had to be given a 5x10. Once I got to my unit, I learned that the alarm system was broken and frequently went off. Later that day, I was not allowed to return an unopened package of moving tape.

Whereas the store and storage is clean the staff need work on social skills. This is also the second time in which I have been there to see a room full of customers that needed to be helped by only one representative. About 95 % of the representatives do not wear masks or wear them improperly.

I appreciated that they provided a lock and made things easy. Initial phone call was great - rep I spoke with was extremely friendly and helpful. My only concern is that none of the employees at the desk wore masks in the 4 or so times I've been there. It would be considerate to customers if they would since we're in a pandemic. Wait times have also been very long even when there's only been one person in front of me.

Every time I went to get something, the doors were locked, and it was always during office hours. This made me have to go around and use the side door half the time. The pin-pad didn't recognize me either. This was not a good experience here, other than the nice people working there. I would not recommend this place to anyone at all.

My first experience wasn't pleasant as by the end of it, I was double billed for everything, they didn't check whether I used the troll in the truck or not, and when they corrected the bill they did it wrong, and when I told the staff she was irritated instead of apologizing even though I was truly very kind and respectful as I know that such thing happen. We all do mistakes. The second experience was much better despite that the system gave the employee such a hard time to book the storage unit for me, but the staff was very kind and helpful and truly helped in the best to their power. (I appreciate the team at state street location)

I was pleased to receive an unexpected discount but the check in process was very slow. If this were fixed, I would rate it very highly. This was my only complaint. Otherwise, good so far!

Your staff are incredible. They helped me out several times with a difficult situation I was going through. They handled it very professionally, but also with kindness and compassion! Even the customer service people were amazing! Especially one woman Brittany, she was a HUGE help to me while trying to close out my storage unit due to my difficult situation! She was impeccable! Also I believe the assistant manager in that facility was also so kind and caring! I really felt that she truly cared about me as a customer and as a human being! Truly wonderful service from everyone! Staff there are just incredible! They all did an amazing job!! The facility itself is wonderful! Clean, sparkling clean really... Very surprised for a storage company to have such a beautifully kept facility! I've used many storage units in the past and none compare to this facility! All in all if I ever need storage again I will definitely be returning to the New Haven office! Incredible experience!! I Thank them all from the bottom of my heart for working with me during a very difficult time in my life and for being so understanding and compassionate! You should share this with them and let them know just how wonderful they truly are! That a customer thinks they are first class! Well my only complaint was at times when I came people would be smoking weed and you can smell it very strong in the halls and it should be family friendly cause I would have my kids with me and I don't care for it myself.
