ALEXANDER MARTINEZThe staff are really friendly and helpful at U-Haul of Van Nuys. They are also very thorough and make sure everything is in order. I left a couple personal keys attached to the truck keys when I returned it. I returned a couple hours later and the truck had already been dispatched but she had seem them and set them aside with my rental info to contact me to let me know she had them.

eric StevensI want to make clear that the gentleman who helped me at the Van Nuys location on 1/6/24 was fantastic. He was attentive, efficient, and very friendly. Please look him up, I want to make sure he is told my comments. My issue is that, this Van Nuys location is plagued with thieves who steal the gas from the UHaul trucks every night. The first '20 truck that I was given, the paperwork said the gas tank was half full. But when I started the truck, the gas gauge showed empty. I grabbed the UHaul employee and let him know. He found a second truck for me, but when I started the engine, same thing. It was supposed to be a quarter full. I felt really bad for the UHaul guy helping me. He was so apologetic. He explained that they have an ongoing issue with gas being siphoned/stolen from their trucks. I felt so sorry that he had to work in these conditions. How often do the UHaul customers take their frustrations out on him and his team? Often, I'm sure. Even though this is a consequence of UHaul the company not protecting their employees and the company's trucks. Invest in proper security. Anyway, the employee who helped me was fantastic; he got me in another truck. It of course was also on empty; so drove it up the road to the 7/11 and put some gas in it. I tip my hat to the guy who helped me; he was calm and graceful in what I can only imagine is such a vexing work environment. I say the same thanks and offer of acknowledgement to the woman who helped me when I returned the UHaul truck in the evening of 1/17/24. She was incredibly helpful. When I explained the gas situation/issue with her (a separate issue was that, no matter how much gas I put in the truck, the gauge always showed as empty. No gas was leaking from it, so ultimately, I concluded the gauge must have been broken from gas being stolen from it so often). The woman who helped me on the rental return was equally fantastic. Super helpful; she got me out of there fast, and she was very sympathetic to the challenges I faced, and she provided a few credits to make up for the hassle I had to deal with. Both on pickup and return, the customer service was fantastic. My two-star review is solely around UHaul the company and how they are not protecting their trucks and employees.

Nathan Hernandezphone service was good for reserving a truck - although they failed to mention cost of insurance and the possibility of using volunteer movers who are on the premises and available for moving furniture. When I asked about movers, I was told a moving company would be contacted at 85$ per hour. The bigger issue was- When I was given a pick- up truck there was no mention of straps needed to hold down the items to keep them from falling out of the truck when driving .This thwarted my efforts to transport all of my items and had to leave several pieces behind to avoid a possibly dangerous situation on the road. Those straps should be mandatory when renting a pick-up. Now I must find a way to tranport the rest of the furniture that was left behind.
