Dropping off the vehicle and receiving accurate milage and gas should be a simple task. I had to wait 20 minutes for the customer service rep to take the vehicle to the back parking lot just to read the gas and mileage. That’s not the protocol I have experienced at other uhaul dealers. You bring the truck in the tech reads the gas and miles and emails the receipt.

A full list of your charges might be a good way to start. I dont understand how a 19 dollar truck could turn into a 120.00 rental. I paid more in taxes and fees and things I dont understand how the consumer should be made responsible. Do yourself a favor rent a truck elsewhere their hidden fee tactics are alarming!!!!

People at Valencia St. counter were great; courteous, friendly, competent, for both pick up and return. 9-ft cargo van had less than 10k miles, and was really nice. Enjoyed driving it. Buyer beware: There are some hidden costs. The "$19.95 / day" is a hook. But since I've done this before it wasn't a surprise... At least the customer service was excellent. That does count. Picked up at about 10AM, returned about 6PM, 16 miles. Paid $61 (includes a $13 "facility fee" that is not mentioned on the website). I mentioned this to the attendant. He acknowledged it and said it is because a recent change in upper management hasn't revised the site. Take 1/2 a star for that... Also, there is a rental "rate" + a rental "charge..." Go figure. I find that shady, so another 1/2 star off. Here's the breakdown. Hope it helps: Rental rate $19.95 Rental charge (so, really the $19.95/day is misleading. The "charge" and "rate" each were 19.95...! Coverage (option) $10 Miles $.79/mile X 16 = 12.64 Healthcare surcharge (SF) $0.16 Facility fee $13.95 Tax . $4.05

The truck I rented died 30 minutes after we had picked it up. I was on hold for over30 minutes and ultimately never spoke with anyone. I had to call AAA to get a jump since U-Haul was not picking up and the rental time was running out. I feel as though I should be compensated for my rental since I was given unreliable and faulty equipment and due to that had a bad experience. I returned the truck early since I could not rely on the U-Haul and had to then get a truck else where.

The $14 facility fee will prevent me from using Uhaul in the future. I rent often, primarily to pick up furniture and for very short distances, and this new fee now nearly doubles the cost.

This was my first time ever renting a van on my own and I was pretty stressed out about it. However, the online reservation system was intuitive, the people at the center were helpful, and the vehicle was very well-maintained. I would highly recommend using this location for moving again and will probably use it again myself the next time I move in the city.

I was rated for a $300 drive to drop off the U-Haul in Sacramento then the website told me that I would be given a discount of $180 if I returned the U-Haul to San Francisco. Upon arrival I was told that this was false and needed to return it anyway making my trip cost twice as much - $600. Then the brake lights wouldn’t work when the vehicle was in Drive but did work when the vehicle was in park. Due to this I was stopped by the police twice thus making me late to return the vehicle. When I called to let the employees know that I didn’t have the time to fill the gas tank back up because of my troubles they told me that I would not be charged a fee for the inconveniences I ran into, but when I received my final bill I had been charges for the low gas for another $50. Overall instead of paying $120 I paid almost $700 and got pulled over twice.

The representatives at the counter were polite, helpful and efficient. Recognizing that there was a line, they apologized and said they were doing their best to help us as quickly as possible. The 10' van was just what I needed. Returning it could not have been easier. The day rate is a great value. Thank you.

The people at Valencia were great. However, I was originally expecting to pick it up at the Civic Center Garage. This is an unattended Pick up place, and unfortunately the cargo van was not there. It was only after I arrived and wasted time looking for it, did I get a text telling me that it was unavailable there and I had to to the Valencia location to pick it up. Although it was an inconvenience, I was able to pick it up at Valencia. They were very helpful and when we returned it, we were told that I would get a $50 refund because of this. I am not sure that that would have happened if we had not complained to the rep at the desk. We also didn't know that we were being charge 99 cents a mile. Since we only drove it 4 miles that wasn't a big deal. But it would be good to know this if you are going a long distance.

I've rented from this location in the past without problems. This time I was surprised at the time of pickup with the new "facility fee". I didn't notice anything about that when setting up the rental on my phone. I'll consider a different location in the future and make a point to ask about fees. I wouldn't be as upset if I had some warning ahead of time, where I could have changed to the next nearest location.

I was overcharged by $45 for a different fuel reading. Upon pulling up, I inspected the fuel level and handed over the keys to the agent - I asked if he would like to inspect the fuel level with me to make sure we had the same understanding, but he said it was fine. He ended up interpreting the fuel line as 1/8, and charged me $45 extra for gas.

Instructions to pick up vehicle were vague and the app didn’t work properly so we had to go into the office to finalize the order. The area where the vehicles were parked is trash ridden and unsanitary. The staff , however, were very friendly and efficient.

At the 100 Valencia store, I was charged a “facility fee” of $13.95. Per the associate, It’s for the city about the Uhaul parking lot. Now I don’t know what is going on with the city and your parking lot but, I should not have to foot the bill for Uhaul to help maintain a parking lot. That’s Uhaul’s responsibility. Not mine! I don’t park there . You do. I want $13.95 reimbursed to me. Damn. At 41.95, my bill, I could have rented through Getaround or Turo and had a vehicle delivered to me. I’m really upset wit Uhaul. Update the mobile experience to include the ability to state your location instead of requiring location services and allow uploading of photos. I was in a rush and didn’t realize I’d need to do these things to “return” the vehicle so I’d already returned the keys to the drop box. I had already taken a photo of the odometer and fuel gauge but couldn’t upload it. And my partner had already picked me up so locations services wasn’t accurate. I ended up calling customer service which I couldn’t get to in the app.

Great use of technology when reserving the vehicle with (more importantly!) great personal service at the retail center. Lydida reviewed the contract and contact information clearly and with humour. The van was ready for pick-up as anticipated. The retail location was an easy in-and-out given the traffic flow on a busy street. Return and check-out was equally as easy. Was a bit confusing when the center got busy because Americans don't know how to queue. Some signage would be helpful.

Ok I’ve been here like 10 times and never had a problem. But the lady who was working there by herself on Saturday 3/30 had a major attitude. I was polite and she was fine with me but I witnessed her yelling at 2 other customers and tell someone “you just wasted 20 minutes of my time” and then she ignored them. They were Asian and felt they were being discriminated against. The whole thing was so awkward not to mention glacial. It took 45 minutes just to get the keys for my already reserved vehicle. She also charged me for a dolly which was not in the van, though this was on me because when she indicated she was not sure if it was there, I was so desperate to leave that I said “at this point I’ll pay for it whether it’s there or not”. What a nightmare. Also there was a line of 8 people behind me. I was second so I feel way worse for the people that were at the end of that line.

This location was an absolutely awful experience!! I rented a van for a 10 mile trip for (presumably) $19.95 plus a $10 Collision Damage Waiver, but the equipment contract that I found later that day in my inbox showed an amount of $74.50... how?! First, I was charged a Facility Fee of $13.95 that I was NEVER told at pick up and no other location has ever charged me that fee! Apparently, this is for locations that do not have their own parking space and "valet" your U-HAUL, but I had to personally walk to the lot to pick up/drop off my van. This is absolutely uncool – there was not a single mention of this fee at pick up, and regardless, I ended up picking up/dropping off the van myself anyways at the lot. Second, I was charged an EZ Fuel Sales of $16.50 for driving only 10 miles! At the lot, they made me walk back to the office and ask for a different van because the first one (with a nearly full tank) was stuck in the back. The new van was only half full which I also ended up returning half full (having driven it for only 10 miles). I was charged $16.50 since they apparently "mixed up" my two equipment contracts! The U-HAUL customer service kindly reimbursed me for both these and I am very grateful for that... BUT, I absolutely do NOT recommend this location – U-HAUL Downtown Box Store (100 Valencia Street, San Francisco, CA 94103) – to anyone! Very unprofessional!

I was double billed in error when clerk spelled my name wrong and wanted to adjust it for billing purposes. He took a while to but couldn't fix the fraudulent charge and the manager was not on duty to fix the clerk's mistake nor could the other clerk on dusty. The extra time I waited for a receipt cost me a high cab fare home...and my bank account had my money I needed tied up on a fraudulent additional hold. I was told to wait several days to see if the extra $85.00 charge would drop off not a specific answer and it hasn't yet! This is not right on to many levels. I waited for a call back from the clerk as promised which didn't happen so I drove back to the site to see if he had been successful at troubleshooting the computer glitch...to no avail. Sadly, the worker was very nice just incompetent...I am a frequent customer who is seriously considering taking my money elsewhere if my situation is remedied...

Online accessing of rental is cumbersome and took longer than waiting in line and getting the keys from the workers. Also too easy to select wrong items to rent that were not intended. It was nice to be able to make reservation online but since the process is not something many people do often, would be good to not fully automate it since it’s too easy to make mistakes. Could have ended up with a bad review if got charged for hints that weren’t needed.

The truck I rented had a really really strong smell of urine!!!! I wished someone would have noticed that before I entered the truck. When I returned the truck I told the attendant that told me to talk to the manager in the store. I did say that, but I had no support...a guy laughed at me saying "how did you enjoy that?". I rented from you guys before more than once and never had such a bad experience. This was so far the worst rental experience I've ever had. I would have appreciated a little token from the manager in the store.

I don't actually have issues with this location but I booked my vehicle for pickup at Steiner & Hayes (704 Steiner) and that address doesn't exist and no vehicle was assigned to my reservation so I got there and hung out in the pouring rain trying to find a van that wasn't there. So we drove to this location, explained the situation, and was met with zero sympathy. They helped me make a new reservation, but I lost nearly an hour of my day and got completed soaked trying to find this vehicle UHaul never set up.
