I have rented from this location dozens of times. Probably dozens of times within the last six months. My experience this time was atrocious and I was sorely overcharged and the truck had severe damage. I will no longer be using this location. Many of the frontline team members there are fantastic and do their best. I don’t know if it’s the management or U-Haul policies that create such a negative environment for any customer who has issues. There seems to be no respect for the customers time, when there is a mechanical issue with the vehicle it is treated as if I am lucky that they’re not charging me for the broken truck no consideration for the time of mine that is wasted or in this case the extra expense that I incurred due to the Mechanical failure of the truck.I found another location in Escondido and I will be renting from them this week.

The equipment was fine. The customer service on the other hand is not so great. A friend and I recently just rented two 15’ trucks from the u-Haul on Mission Avenue in Escondido. Both of us were moving locally. Everything was fine with the trucks, the only issue we ran into was how long our move took. She had hers for like six days and I had mine for nine. A couple days after I had mine I spoke to Justin who I believe is the manager and explained my situation to him letting him know we were having to move all our stuff and furniture from the third floor (with NO elevator) down to the u haul with little to no help.. plus having our kids (1yo and a 2yo) there as well and it was taking longer then expected. And We are both single mothers, Both on a single incomes, and weren’t able to afford the $70 per truck that they were charging us per day That we had the rental because apparently they charge you daily for the blankets and the dolly PER DAY which I didn’t know until that day either. and I asked Justin if there was a way I could at least take the insurance off since I found out the company I work for pays for your insurance in a rental. He told me no and the only thing he was able to do for me was extend my rental to the end of the week and charge the card when I return it?? Okay yeah thanks.. that’s what you’re SUPPOSE TO DO. As a manager I feel you should be working with customers ESPECIALLY local ones.. not wording something in a way that makes you seem like you’re helping when you’re just doing something I could have called and done myself? Then I got there to return it this morning, and Victor tries telling me that the gas is a little low and that they are going to charge me $15 for that!! Keep in mind I drove the truck a TOTAL of 9 miles the ENTIRE 9 days that I had it, plus I put $5 in it RIGHT before I returned it, I was so pissed and left right after that because I’m not one to cause a scene especially at a business where there are other customers... So I just paid over $600 for a rental truck I had for 9 days, that was only driven 9 miles... ridiculous. I do want to thank FRED though! Who we got to meet while picking up the rental and when we returned my friends rental. You were the ONLY one we got to talk to that was very understanding and had GREAT customer service skills! You were a breath of fresh air through this entire process, MANAGEMENT MATERIAL FOR SURE! I know for sure that you must be the reason for the majority of that locations returning customers. So thank you Fred! ??

Called ahead to specifically request the 6x12 trailer with a 5' opening in the rear to load a golf cart.. Was told that is the one I would get. Arrived and the one they had for me was only 4.5' wide in the rear opening. Was told they had the one I needed coming back in the morning. Waited and what arrived was again not what I had specifically requested and was told I could get. Finally ended up getting a standard open car trailer on the third day. Not the experience I was hoping for.

I was sold a hitch ball since neither of the two that I had were the right size, and an adapter since I had a different type of electrical hook up. I think that UHaul should do a better job letting the customer know what is needed in advance of the rental, and they should be able to loan the customer the correct size ball and adapter to be returned with the other equipment that is being rented. I feel like I was just shaken down for more money. Not Good!!

I was charged for 3 gallons of gas when the tank was just a slight bit below 1/4 tank. Also, I originally ordered a truck from Oceanside and had to go all the way back and forth to Escondido because the truck I needed wasn't available. It would've been nice to have a heads up before heading to the original location and then having to drive a long distance to actually get the truck I needed. Then to be charged almost $17 for gas that I didn't agree with isn't good.

If anyone actually reads these things... I had to go to 3 different UHaul locations to find this one. You see, when I made the online reservation, the site showed the location on "Mission Rd." Mission Rd. goes thru 3 cities Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido! I drove for an hour trying to find the right one! Solution: GIVE THE COMPLETE ADDRESS AND CITY, NOT JUST A STREET NAME ON THE RESERVATION! HOW HARD IT THAT !? DON'T BELIEVE ME? RETRIEVE THE EMAIL YOU SENT ME AND LOOK! ESCONDIDO IS NOT THE LOCATION WHERE I MADE THE RESERVATION.

I rented a truck and trailer, the truck was in poor shape applying the brakes it would get a really bad shimmy, when I went to adjust the passengers mirror it would not move, it cracked the mirror

The last several times I have rented from this location and Temecula, the truck goes out with a 1/4 tank of gas. When I rent from U-Haul, I have to plan to get gas twice, once right away to get enough to where I am going, and a second time to bring it back with the same amount, a 1/4 tank, so that the next renter can get gas twice too. My wife says this is the last time we rent from UHaul. Looking at Enterprise and Penske next time (in 2 weeks) because of the gas situation. You are losing revenue, I've pointed it out before. Thnx.

The man who helped us in renting the truck (Jose I believe?) was very nice, but poor guy needed help inside. We waited a solid 10 minutes before it was our turn to the counter as he was the only cashier, only one inside for that matter. The man who pulled the truck out was great as well (Eduardo?) , very nice but the back of the truck was dirty, totally not his fault but it had trash and what looked like a blanket or furniture cover. He was very nice and offered to get us a new truck but we didn't have time so he cleaned it out quickly and we were on our way. Upon going to return the truck we left to put gas as we forgot, when we got back from putting gas (Maybe 10 minutes) since it was JUST above the quarter tank line and not on the line we were either to leave and put more gas or accept a charge of $7.50 for gas. So ridiculous!! I'm not looking for hand outs but come on cut people a break man!! I can see if we were way off but just above the line is crazy!! Bottom line, I paid MUCH more than I thought I would ($95) for 3.5 hours + gas I put in+ the extra charge for being just under. Crazy. Unfortunately without a truck there's not much choice but as a 1st time user I'm hesitant to recommend them or go back again, maybe it's just me but it was not what I expected.

When going over the vehicle you should spend a few minutes showing the renter how to work the mirrors, seats, a/c and radio instead of the renter having to get in and realize they can't find anything then have to find someone to help them. The help was great, that wasn't the problem, it just would have saved some time to get some mini-instructions first.

Make sure the equipment that is reserved way in advance is ready for your customer. It is already stressful trying to move from one state to another. We got a call two days before our stressful move that our car transporter would not be ready at the location we booked it at. We were told our option would be to drive another 25miles to obtain the transporter. I have no idea why someone from uhaul could not transfer this transporter to the location we needed. THIS MADE OUR MOVE 10 TIME MORE STRESSFUL, and has made me rethink using uhaul in a future move.

I reserved truck and the manager brought up a van when I told him that wasn't what I reserved he became rude and argumentative saying that was what I ordered. When he returned proceeded to tell me how lucky I was that someone had canceled their reservation on s truck otherwise I would be stuck with what I ordered "van". I did not request a van as it did not suit my purpose in requesting a rental to begin with. The first time I tried to do my reservation took eight hours. Then the next day probably the same moron called to inform me that I was driving a stolen truck. No more headaches no more uhaul least no to that ridiculous location.

Called in 4 hours before returning the equipment to extend the rental. Was told it was ok to keep it for another 24h. Got a call in the morning demanding to return the equipment as the other renter was waiting on it. The only thing I can assume that after they hang up the phone they forgot to find another equipment for their next day rental and decided to screw me over with my "not extended" rental. Horrible. Never renting from this location again and filing a dispute.

My biggest complaint is when I was shopping for a rental I was misled to believe that an adjustment on my contract price would be readjusted for the early return in Escondido when I picked up the rental in Seattle. This was the determining factor in choosing UHAUL and I feel as if there was a bait and switch because the representative at the Seattle location said this wasn't possible. If you go over the phone recordings you will here your associate tell me about the adjustment there were many conversations but I believe this one took place on the 28th of March

The truck I rented was a tired old piece of junk. We couldn't be comfortable driving it with a full load as it sagged and felt like it was dangerous to take on the road. We had to unload about half of it and make multiple trips. The agent charged us full price even though. Worst Uhaul experience to date. I rent trucks all the time for my business and this location blew it. Remove the old, dangerous vehicles guys!

The whole process is too lengthy. At the counter, the process is slow and the people are not friendly. The workers in lot are much better and personable. On the return, which should be quick, no one was present so I had to wait in line inside to see what to do, and then wait outside to unhook a simple trailer. I was there over a half hour just to return a dumb trailer. A poorly run operation.

When I turned the U-Haul in I was immediately helped by an individual (Fred) who checked out the mileage and condition of the truck. He let me know a receipt would be sent to my email address and I was checked out within 10 minutes. I was so pleased with the prompt and polite service. I would recommend this location to anyone.

Fire Jose. He is a terrible employee and made my girlfriend cry. Was very rude and took photos of my vehicles license plates without my permission nor with my knowledge until I got in the car and my girlfriend informed me of what he did. Was very hostile towards me and my girlfriend for no reason.

Front end service was busy and slow. It was not well organized especially considering we had an appointment. We waited about 40 minutes before our car got signed off to be worked on because of how busy the one and only desk clerk was able to check us in. The desk clerk needed more help. When we returned to pick up the car was a different experience. Your other rep, Justin was very helpful and was able to show us the features to our new hitch. So, this could have been a higher rating.

The only crappy thing about this UHaul experience is that my appointment was scheduled in Carlsbad and then I was informed that I had to go to Escondido to get the cargo trailer. Why would the website say it was available in Carlsbad if it wasn't? It was a major inconvenience to go to Escondido. Other than that, the service at the site was great.

Parking at the facility was a little challenging, but once I parked I didn't have to move my car which was nice to be able to park my car and use the van for the time we used it for and come back to my car still being parked in the lot.

I didn’t like that i had to spend more money because I went a few miles over the allotted 91 miles. I think the person where I picked it up just calculated the mileage between the two points and not the driving to and from pick up, house, storage and drop off.

Issue me a refund for the cost of the trailer for the poor customer service I received from your phone representative. I called to reserve a 4x8 utility trailer. Due to a vehicle issue, I needed the trailer within 30 minutes to move the last of our items. I spoke with Anna (???) and let her know we needed a trailer quickly and we were on our way to the Mission Rd U-Haul location, but was calling to check availability first. She said there was one available at the Mission Rd location. After taking my information, which took extra time because she was difficult to understand, spent time commenting on my vehicle, and it took her three times to correctly enter my credit card information, she told me the trailer was no longer available, but a larger trailer was available at a higher price. Bait and switch? I asked if I could have it at the same price as the smaller trailer since it was available at the beginning of our conversation. She said no and that trailers getting reserved during a call happens all the time. I told her I did not want the larger more expensive trailer. She said she would put my reservation in the system and I would be contacted when a 4x8 was available. I reiterated that I needed one quickly and would check another location myself. She repeated that I would be contacted. I hung up. I got to the Mission Rd U-Haul location and they had multiple 4x8 trailers available - supporting the phone rep's bait and switch tactics. The customer service at the Mission Rd location was outstanding. I asked who I spoke to and he said they've had to transfer calls to some type of service. I've rented from U-Haul many times and I feel I should be issued a refund due the poor customer service I received and the blatant attempt for the phone rep to make me rent a more expensive trailer then I needed.
