It took 3 times for my reservation entry to go through at the Salem turnpike location. I was told there internet speed there was very slow. The sales representative apologized. No issues at all with my rental vehicle.. would has given 5 stars with the exception of my reservation.

Great experience overall! The attendant was very helpful. The only issue I had was the van overwhelmingly smelled of smoke. As a non-smoker, it made it tough having to deal with it for over 2 hours.

This location over charged me saying that I returned the truck not clean and I did clean out the truck and they said I didn’t return it with the proper gas and I put gas in the U hual before I returned bad business for real I was a lil late and they charged for a extra day.

Rita is the only person who was helpful and above reproach - very knowledgeable and very helpful. The female manager was 25 minutes late in opening the doors even though she was inside and stated "just wait". The sign taped on that door was an insult and inappropriate but certainly was an indication of the ignorance and insulting behavior of the female manager. The only reason I would recommend this location is that it is U-Haul who stands behind their product. RITA represents honesty, integrity and the true U-Haul way! Well done to RITA alone of the team of three.

Hours listed are incorrect and you cannot get through the gate using a keypad, as listed. You need a remote from the office which opens at 10AM, not 8AM. Threw my day off waiting for them to open. Please fix that information online so people know what to expect.

At this particular one. Didn't care for the step up or over curb to enter storage unit. Almost fell a few times. And I am handicapped as well so walking is already a problem. Even my help moving larger items almost fell. Other than that I like the place

If there's a way to make the website easier to maneuver through, that would be cool. I had to call customer service to figure out where the key was and the lock combination. Customer service was nice and helpful, though!

We rented a storage unit on line, sight unseen to store our belongings as we were moving from the Richmond area to the Roanoke area. The unit had a terrible odor in it and we were concerned that the odor would get into our furniture. We rented the unit long enough to locate a different unit and transfer our stuff. Come to find out, that particular unit had previously been a problem in the past and the staff there could not get it clean. I strongly feel that the staff there should have warned us before hand about the odor as I'm sure they were aware of it. Instead, we had to make extra trips to Roanoke from the Richmond area to transfer our belongings. This was both time consuming and expensive.

We went multiple times the first day with all of our items for storage in tow. Could not get a hold of anyone s as t the location via phone so we went over and no one was there during business hours. Went in the morning and again in the afternoon and no one was at the facility to speak with or pick up the access transponder. Had to go back the next day and was finally able to gain access to the facility. Would not recommend.

U-haul 1 800 number called me and my cell phone picked it up as a spam call. I was late to pick up my rental truck. Not even 5 mins after I noticed I had a missed called, I arrived to pick up the rental truck and they had cancelled my rental. Thank you to Matt at the office who got my rental back. He told me they are suppose to call you twice before they cancel it. Pretty upsetting and annoying.

To begin, the website said you could rent a unit remotely without having to go to the office, that's why I chose it because it was on a Sunday afternoon when I became in need of it. Paid for it online, received unit number and access code to the gate. So I proceeded to load my car down as much as I could pack into it, I arrive at the facility to find no keypad for the code. It was a gate that you have to use a remote fob to open and of course the office was closed. So here I am with a packed vehicle, a paid unit and no way inside. I get the fob the next day and was told that the gate locks at 10pm and if I'm not out of the gate by 10pm, I would be locked inside until 5am when the gate starts opening again. Well I work all day so by the time I'm able to come to my unit, it's always late afternoon or early evening. So I would have to set an alarm on my phone every time I came there to ensure I wasn't locked inside for the night! Which I think that it's a potential lawsuit for the facility. What if someone got locked in and had medication that they have to have and it's at home?: What if someone left their kids at home to run to their unit real quick and got locked in? What if they had a medical emergency while locked inside? It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. When I do get to my unit, it had holes in the bottom and wood paneling screwed in the sides like someone had gone through it from another unit (I don't know, it just appeared that way). But the kicker was, I was at my unit, my psycho ex climbed over the gate to come harass me, I left a message in the office AND U-Haul customer service that I wanted to see if they caught it on video so that I could prosecute and no one would return my call. Combine all of that with the gate constantly breaking and they locking it when they left the office leaving me left out of a unit I was paying for but not having access to. I also came across several upset customers that were there to pick up a U-Haul truck that they paid for only to find the office closed. They were only open 10am-4pm. So, no, I would not recommend this location.

I told the gentleman working when I arrived to pick up the Uhaul that I have a gift card to use. However, my debit card has been charged instead of the gift card. It's a bit upsetting :(

This location was small but the worker was helpful and I quickly found our rental. However, this was not our first choice because we originally reserved a one-way truck that U-Haul could not provide (which we only found out the day before). This location was a 40-minute drive from our original pick-up location and it's ridiculous that the company could not provide us the truck we reserved weeks in advance. We were forced to downgrade to a cargo van (that barely fit everything) and I lost my month of free storage because they could not provide a truck within an hour's drive.

There is no light in the storage unit. Was told to go go the melrose location to sign paperwork and get access. I spent an hour waiting just to be told I needed to go to the salem turnpike location because the new general manager was there and did not have access to the accounts for that location. I got to the salem turnpike location and was told since I did an online move in I didn't even need to sign anything, I just needed the gate key.

My site specifically requires a key fob for entry. That fob is only available from the office staff. The web rental doesn't make mention of this requirement, in fact, it led me to believe I could access at any time with a gate entry code which caused me to lose 2 hours on moving day. The unclarity threw a big monkey wrench into my plan

The location advertised online that I could do contactless set up which I needed because it was Sunday and the office was closed. So I paid for it, got my unit number, instructions on where the lock would be and they texted me my gate code. So I loaded down my car to bring stuff to my unit, I get there and there is NO keypad to enter my code. Apparently they have switched to a gate that you use fob to open the gate. So, I couldn't access my unit as I needed to and as it was advertised online. I had to go back home and unload everything back out of my car. Very inconvenient and bad business to say the least. Very unhappy.

This is my only storage facility I seem to have issues with. I have Several units through the Us. They changed locks on one unit I had to Pay the locksmith to open it. Two units had leaks and nothing was done. I had to clean up the mess.

The initial unit i rented was to be temperature controlled and the general manager assured me that it was since it was attached the main office. later, i discovered my tv console had shattered due to the immense heat due to an issue with the AC unit. I was denied coverage despite having insurance and it was at no fault of Uhaul. Lastly, I attempted to rent a moving truck. I was informed that there wasn't one available in my size and would be called later regarding it. I never heard anything back but saw that a 20ft truck was attached to my reservation which was for a 10ft truck. There's never anyone in the office during business hours half of the time and i don't customers are informed properly. customer service has truly tanked. I really don't want to use uhaul again.

The price I was charged was more than online quote, including additional $18 charge, don't know why because van was returned with full tank on time. The van smelled so bad of cigarettes I had to drive with the windows down. Will not be using this location again.

I kept a storage unit at this facility for 6 months. I was issued a 6 digit access code when I paid for the unit. Without notifying me, the facility removed the machine used to input access codes, and switched to only issuing remotes. I showed up at 7PM with a U-Haul rented van on November 4th (facility hours are 5A-10P) to empty my unit for a move the following morning. I was unable to get into my storage unit because I did not have a remote to gain access into the storage facility. Because it was after office hours, no one was available to help me. I ended up having to pay additional gas and mileage for my van, as well as paying additional money to my moving company because I was unable to gain access to my unit until 9AM the next day. By the time I cleaned it out and returned home, we were several hours behind schedule. I would have had no issue coming to get a remote, but I was never contacted that this was a new policy. Also, the remotes are small enough that they could have been mailed to customers. I appreciate customer service doing what they could to help the evening of, but this was the worst experience I have ever had with U-Haul. I can't see myself giving you business in the future if I find any viable other options.

Not location specific but allowing driver to upload documents prior to arrival on location. (Drivers license, personal photo, etc). The 24/7 pickup is very convenient but it did take longer than expected. Also having my order (boxes, tape, bubble wrap) pre-loaded in the truck would be a huge convenience. Fortunately I had only arrived on location at 8:40am so waiting till the store opening to collect the materials was a very mild inconvenience but if I was there really early it would've thrown off more of my day/plan. All in all a great experience though.

The young man whom helped me with my move in was absolutely amazing! Very well mannered and had me in and on my way in a matter of minutes. He greeted me offered his help each time I visited my unit . Wonderful asset to this company  The facility was very clean which is very important to me as I am particular and picky about cleanliness. For after hours customers using 24/7, it seems to be very difficult. I had to change my rental pickup to the evening. I was told it was super easy to use the app. However, the app would not let me advance due to "not being at the location". When I called the verification line provided, it was a 50-60 minute wait. When we called regular customer service, they stated there was nothing they could do to assist us except transfer us to the same line. That was the most frustrating part: Customer Service came across as very uncaring and dismissive. When we asked to speak with a supervisor, we were placed on a very long hold and no one ever returned to the line. It took approximately 45 minutes to FINALLY register with the app. The individual who answered the verification line was very apologetic and got me through quickly. Pickup sucked but drop off was a dream. The gentleman working at the location when we arrived was very pleasant and friendly. He asked about my experience. When I discussed the issues with pick up, he was very apologetic and did everything to make up for the issues from the day before. I know the call center perhaps gets weary dealing with irate customers all day. It is a thankless job. However, that is in essence their job: to help rectify issues.

I had an absolutely horrid experience using uhaul this time around. My interactions with customer service repeatedly resulted in receiving false information. Much longer story short, I arranged to pick up a truck on Sunday 6/26 in the morning in Blacksburg, VA. A few days prior, I switched it to Saturday 6/25 in the evening with 24/7 truck share. When I came to pick up, not only was there no one-way truck checked in, there was not a single one-way truck available with truck share within 50 miles. This severely impacted my packing plans. I then found out that the Blacksburg location is not open on Sunday (which makes it quite problematic to pick up a truck on Sunday as initially planned, yet another wrong piece of information). Each time I was told that the truck would be available and received notifications to check in for the reservation. Ultimately, I had to drive 45 minutes out of the way to pick up the truck the next morning, leading to another significant delay for my move. Despite all of these attempts to schedule, none of them are considered a "guarantee" so I can't be compensated for my time and frustration. You can improve things for the next customer by not freaking setting up impossible pick up times for them so they won't have their schedule screwed over. Also consider providing your customer support and sales staff with consistent data so they are not repeatedly misinforming your customers. As I said, there is more to the story but you should hopefully have that information logged in relation to my reservation already. The staff at the Roanoke location were the only positive part of the experience. He was great.

Uhaul is horrible I drove 3 hours to a storage unit to not have access we had to stay over night in a hotel. I called ahead and told the employee I didn't not have a time that I would get to the storage. He never said if you are not here by 10 pm you access code will not work. Very unprofessional, I spent more time and money on the move than I expected my anxiety was through the roof. Horrible experience

The location was out of the way and not near a gas station. There were not clear directions about where to leave the truck after hours. We parked behind another truck that was apparently left. Uhaul was unclear about charges, drop off time or approval of additional charges. The fact that the truck lights were not working left me with a fear of getting ticketed the entire move. For the money paid, I am extremely disappointed in Uhaul. I am not sure why I was charged an additional $40 plus mileage. The mileage overage was partly because of the change in pickup and lack of gasoline near drop off. We were told to fill it up to 3/4 tank but we ended up filling it up almost full because it is difficult to gauge how full a tank is while fueling. Overall, my satisfaction rating with UHaul is low.

I was supposed to pick up my vehicle at 730am usijg 24/7 truck share. I wasted close to an hour at the location trying to get uhaul's system to recognize that i was at the location unsuccessfully, including wasting 2 phone calls with customer service that provided zero assistance. I left and came back after my childs swim practice at approx. 945am and found that the store was still not opened even though its posted hours were 900am. No one showed up until approx 1030, with multiple cars including me waititing. When the person finally showed up she had to switch the vehicle i was reserved to take for another one, which i dont know why. This was an utterly disgraceful service experience. The location specifically was a mess, but worse was uhauls 24/7 truck share system. I will never rent from uhaul again regardless of any cost.

They have been doing a lot of cleanup and fixing up of this facility, however, it still has a ways to go. We picked this site before we moved to Roanoke, if we had seen it before we would NOT have rented there. Once there we didn't want to have to move everything. Currently, the cars are gone, they have replaced the doors, and are working on the siding. They leave the old siding along the access roads and it blows into the street. They cut off the locks WITHOUT notice so they could add wring for camera. MAILED the key without a call or email to our OLD address so we never got it. We then to at our OWN expense and time CUT off the lock and put a new one on. I was told we would get a free month for our trouble... which never happened. I called about it and the lady said... sorry, I told my GM but he didn't do it I will do it for the next month... again never happened. We were just done with y'all at that point.

And due to not knowing how much furniture we had to store at the time, she upgraded our storage unit one size for free. This speaks loads to how accommodating U-Haul is with changing circumstances and limited funds. We showed up late but Michael was still helping a customer outside. He stayed beyond his shift and allowed us to get our unit. He didn't have to because we didn't show up because of the bad weather. .

It is always something with Uhaul > charge too much >charge you for stuff you didnt reserve or ask for > attitude when your unhappy because of their services > locked my storage after I has permission to be late >corporate charge you stuff and then the location where you live say they didnt so it and then corporate say they didnt do it either so you dont know who to talk to about it

When I 1st got my space it was so easy and everything I needed the young man who helped me took to my unit and realized it hadn't been cleaned out yet and quickly took to a nicer unit which made me feel so much more comfortable about where the unit was located. The 1st one was kinda in a hall way and this new 1 is right outside I can just pull handle my business and go. I had a great experience and will definitely be recommending uhaul in the future Thanks Guys!!!!!

This storage facility advertised itself to be climate-controlled. It is not. My items were ruined by mold, insects and mice. The employee door to the storage units was often left open overnight, allowing the weather and pests to come in. And the access gate was always left open.

The only complaint I have is that there wasn't a light in the unit. I had to rely on the main light that housed all of the units to see while I was moving my stuff in. Other than that, it was a very nice and easy experience.

I was disappointed with the fact that the light in the hallway was interoperable as well as there being no light in the unit itself so that you can see where you are putting things (so that you can do it efficiently). Lighting is needed not just for visibility but also for safety.
