This was BY FAR the worst experience I have ever had with U-Haul. Every step of the process was a hassle. I reserved a larger truck in person 11 days prior to my move (October 8) at the U-Haul Moving and Storage of East Mesa. Turns out that the employee took the liberty of checking a box without my consent that I was aware that there were no vehicles available and that I'd be ok with something else. He also neglected to include my status as a disabled veteran, even though I requested it, meaning that I had to pay full price when the time came. I received a phone call 4 days prior to my move (October 15) from someone that said the larger truck I needed was not available and that all they could do for me was offer a small 10 foot truck with a 5x8 trailer or deliver a U-Pack. My HOA wouldn't allow a U-Pack, so I inquired about the truck/trailer as the space was smaller than I had requested. They assured me that they would fit everything as I described (surprise, they didn't, but we'll get to that later). When I asked if I'd be getting a discount for being inconvenienced, the individual on the phone told me that I would be paying the same amount. Prior to disconnecting the call, I was told that I would hear from someone regarding the pickup location 24-48 hours prior to my pick-up date. On October 18, less than 24 hours prior to my move, I called customer service as I had not heard from anyone. I spoke with someone named Alana (spelling may not be correct) who informed me that there were absolutely no trucks available in my area and that there was no record of my conversation that took place on the 15th. At this point, my whole household was boxed up and in my garage. After pressing her multiple times to find a solution, she put me on hold. She came back and said that there was a 10-foot truck with a 5x8 trailer available in Coolidge, Arizona, roughly one hour away from my home. She said I could pick it up the next day (the 19th) at 11:30. Again, when I asked if a discount would be offered for the inconvenience, all she offered was additional miles at no cost to cover the additional distance (but not the fuel). Upon my arrival at the pick up location, I was informed that they had no pick ups scheduled for that time of day. Turns out that my pick up had been scheduled for 11:30 pm, not 11:30 am. Fortunately, they had the equipment on site, however I was told that I'd have to wait an hour for the other employee to show up to the gas station before I could be helped as someone was required to run the register. Luckily, they arrived early so I was able to depart earlier than 12:30 pm. I returned home and set to work loading the truck and trailer. Sadly, they had nowhere near the capacity that I had initially requested. I loaded them anyway as I am starting a new job and could not delay my move. I'll need another 10 foot truck to fit the rest of my belongings that are still sitting in my garage. I've made a reservation for the 3rd of December for another 10 foot truck which will cost me an estimated 1 300 $plus the cost of a flight to Arizona and gas. Although your associates have been reasonably helpful, I kept getting told repeatedly that there simply aren't enough trucks to go around. What I don't understand is why the organization is still taking reservations if they can't honor them. At this point, I've already paid 1 600 $plus gas to only move some of my belongings. After the second trip, that number will be well over 3 500 $which is what it would have cost to have a professional moving service do everything for me. I hope that the logistical challenges that U-Haul is facing are resolved as things are in a sad state of affairs and customers are experiencing some incredible hardships and inconveniences.NATHAN V.

Put the hand trucks or dollies up front where they're not in the way of loading the truck sometimes you have to move the dolly to load the truck and then get charged for using the dolly. Other than that, just keep on doing what you're doing.Kevin C.

After I dropped off the trailer at 9:30, after the location had opened, I received a email with a receipt for a 20 $charge for an after hours fee. The trailer was not dropped off after hours. It was dropped off 30 minutes after it was opened. This site needs to have more people outside to improve customer service. So people can charge BS fees.Zachary T.

I had my unit locked out when payment had been made and so it was frustrating. I wish thee hour to access units were extended. There were a few times I needed to get in my storage and I couldnt cause I needed a blue key to unlock. When I brought the truck they Insisted it wasn't at the fuel level it was when I got it which was a little bit more than half. I brought it with a little but more than half but they still want to charge me for fuel 12 $. Also customer service is rude and they don't treat their customer well. I reserved the truck for Bountiful, and at first the lady who called me a few days before to confirm told me there weren't any 26 foot trucks available. That was scary - especially since I had planned with 8 other people this move, and they had found time in their busy schedules. But then the lady said she was able to find a 26 foot truck - but that it was in Ogden, not Bountiful. Really? So I was forced to drive clear up to Ogden, pick up the truck, and then drive clear down to Bountiful, load up, and then drive all the way up to Logan (my destination). Then they only gave me 66 miles since they were expecting me to drive from Ogden directly to Logan - when I made the reservation a month ago for Bountiful to Logan! So then I had to pay extra for the extra miles driving around the truck.STEPHEN C.

When I picked up the Uhaul, I noticed the lady helping me was rude to the other employees around her. Didn't think much of it at the time. On my return date a lady called me and tried to guilt trip me about the truck not being there â€œon time.â€ There was some miscommunication that caused this issue and the lady hung up before I could explain myself. Upon arrival for the truck return, the person who received the vehicle was really nice and did everything he could to help me, considering the circumstances. Yesterday Which was the 26th. I was supposed to rent a 19,95 $ truck. My nephew just asked of we could return somewhere in Salt Lake. Then she proceeded to be very rude and said no im not letting you drop it back off somewhere else. He Was just asking. Then I asked how much it would be and she told me. I didn't have that much on my card and I so I took out cash and she very ignorantly told us I told her twice we didnt take cash. So she said have a nice day. They tell you can that you can access your storage till 10 but really it's till 5 then the qr code for extended hours doesn't work and when you try to call the general manager she'll just ignore your calls till she blocks you and when you let her know you're going to file a complaint she'll evict you even if you just paid rent 5 days ago and she won't give you a refund but she will put a past due payment lock on your unit even though it's up to date worse experience I've ever had and I'll be sure to let everyone I know about how awful it was and how poorly Sierra Kennedy does her jobFelipe G. | Expérience générale
The Ogden location for the truck rental return and auto carrier trailer return was a horrible experience!!! The women that work at the Ogden location and especially the young red haired woman was not friendly at all and acted as though she was totally put out to help with equipment return. She was not helpful and was the most rude person I have ever met. My son n law and my daughter and I could not believe the extreme rudeness and poor customer service I received at the Ogden UT location. The thin red haired woman and the other also red head gave me no eye contact. Did not want to help and blew me off as if I was invisible. Note: I was very nice and could not understand why being treated so badly. It was not my fault that a bad undersized truck was made available to rent and travel Out of State. The truck had mechanical issues that my son n law pointed out in a very nice way. It was also not my fault that the store in AZ let the wrong auto carrier trailer be connected to the moving truck to go to Utah. I am upset and should be but not once was I ever mean, raise my voice, or treat any of U-Hauls personnel badly. The personnel working at the AZ store were very nice but had no clue or idea where my reserved truck was located. The women personnel at the Utah location were extremely nasty and should be fired or at least reprimanded! All my previous past U-Haul rentals were great with great Ogden personnel help. I think one thing I'd improve, is to help untie cars from the trailers. Like ok that customers have to drive it down. But to remove straps, chains, ... I think it should be included in Uhaul service. The person was trying to show it to me and she couldn't even unleash the strap herself, so it's a little strange to ask customers to do it when even associates have troubles doing it ? Otherwise, very helpful and nice staff at the counter !Thomas L.

The ladies helping us were anything but helpful. We called ahead and told them we would be late. They called us to ask us when we would arrive and I was probably 2 minutes out and told her I had called earlier to tel then we were going to be late. She explained she was not told that information. When we got to uhaul the other person helping us said â€œugh those people said they were only going to be 15 minutes lateâ€. She didn't realize we were â€œthoseâ€ people that had called in. But I never said ide only be 15 minutes late either as we were held up on our first errand. We were charged 200+ more than what we were quoted. I cancelled another truck rental because I thought you guys beat there quite but that was a straight up lie. I was informed if we rented a storage unit with uhaul the first month would be free. When I asked about that the girls said â€œo ya you need to take care of thatâ€ Well why doesn't your employees have that ability to help us with that? So I asked them to have the truck returned to a location that rents the storage units so we could arrange that. They had the truck returned to a location that does not rent storage units. I had to call around and find a location that rents storage units. My husband got to the storage unit at 6 pm and had one hour to unload before they kicked him out so he had stuff in the uhaul truck over night. Overall our experience sucked and those helping us were rude and unprofessional and couldn't even direct us in the correct locations or to the correct people to help.KEVIN W.

The guys that did the original pickup was great. My move had to be extended so I called to extend it another day. Right before we were done getting everything in the unit my son had a emergency and had to leave. Problem he was my driver. I'm in a wheelchair so that left me without a driver. I called and was told they don't pickup trucks; then hung-up on me. I called back and waited over 20 minutes and got the manager and she immediately said you need to have us pick up the truck. I told her yes. When they got there she stated, by the way there is a 200 $transport fee. Then she got into her car. Emergencies happen, I started calling uhaul over an hour before the truck was do back so I wasn't charged for another day. There is a difference between a true emergency and just not bringing back the truck. My 120 $rental w/gas went up to 449 $. The manager is rude, cruit.MELINDA T.

I received the absolute worst service from Erik Simmons. The man was rolling his eyes and shrugging his shoulders and being indignant towards me despite being a returning paying customer. Mr. Simmons and I were in disagreement about existing damage to a rental truck which he was trying to place blame on me. When I asked to see a picture of the truck prior to me renting it , Mr. Simmons showed me a picture of a completely different truck ! How do I know ? Because the truck I rented has a serial number painted on the truck just above the drivers seat. Mr. Simmons told me the picture was taken on June 18th , 2021. However there was no serial number on the truck he showed me despite claiming the truck had been at that facility for 3 or more years now. I asked Mr. Simmons for contact information and how to begin the process to dispute the damage, he responded by calling the police and describing me as a threatening black man with gold chains and tattoos ! When the cops arrived , they told me I had every right to try to collect that information. I didn't have a good experience via phone with representatives prior to move in. They lacked customer service skills and technical communication skills. When I started to ask about my storage unit I was hung up on. I believed the first unit I booked to be online move-in accessible, but I ended up not being able to use the online process for that unit, so I ended up booking a different one. This took a significant amount of time to figure out and disrupted my moving schedule. I also ended up getting charged for the first month despite the deal running for first month free if also booking a u-haul truck. I had to wait over 20 minutes and at that point I was frustrated and finally left. There was one guy working hard to help a customer in one line. In there other line there was an older woman who was being helped by a clerk and for some reason another staff member was standing there watching that interaction who once looked up and said we will be right with you. There was one guy on the phone helping another customer. Two staff members where just walking around behind the desk. In line there was me and one other guy behind me. After waiting for so long I just polightly asked if I had to stay there or if I could just call in later to close out my account. For three days I tried to call and got looped around the phone system and never actully talked to someone. For as many customers that where in the store 4 of us with 5 or so staff members it seems a bit crazy that there was over a 20 minute wait to be serviced and again it was only 20 minutes because I left.Shawna C. | Expérience générale

The manager was very rude an was extremely angry an screwed me out of everything I owed an messed me up on my payments, falsified the paperwork so it looked like I wasn't paying my bills so she could get her boyfriend to get there hands on a very expensive piece of art I had in there an I had a lot of personal things that were important to my children an she had a personal grudge against me since before she started working for you so she got what she want. I made a reservation. Had a reservation confirmation, and when I went to move in, I was told the reservation meant nothing because there weren't any spaces available. I was told it was first come, first serve which I thought the reservation would help with. It didn't. Fortunately, on the day I needed the spot, one did become available and they contacted me and offered it to me, which i appreciate.
