Just encourage people to know what type of vehicle they need, and make sure their documentations are in order. And if the vehicle you need isn't available just give it a couple of hours , they have plenty of vehicles being returned and becoming available.

The process of renting the truck and using the moving helpers was really difficult. The movers were poorly booked by U-haul and on the loading in to storage side were booked for the wrong date. The Truck was delivered to me with an empty tank and the brakes on the truck were problematic. The staff at the counter were really nasty and I really do not want to ever go back to your office every again now that I have my belongings in storage. Your staff is really nasty and the everything about the truck rental was a disaster. Best, Charles Herzfeld

Customer service is very poor. There is no continuity between the information provided and no one is held accountable. Different information is provided by staff at the location and via phones. Staff is extremely slow and unprofessional. The storage units are not as shown in the office/lobby. They are very poorly lit, doors don’t work well, and the are smelly/dirty/old. I had a very bad experience and will not be recommending or using U-Haul storage in the future.

When you gave me the key to the truck it was blocked in the parking lot and I had to go back and get the correct key after i started to check in after standing on line with your nasty service personell. When I found the truck that I was given to rent, the gas tank was empty. This is totally unacceptable. It's like no one cares. Your truck had faulty brakes which caused the truck to make a grinding sound after breaking at a stop light. When you booked my movers to unload my truck in Brooklyn on November 11th you mistakenly booked it for November 18th so I had to pay guys I met in your parking lot at U-haul park slope to unload my truck The movers I booked in NJ that you gave me followed my instructions and were great but I cannot understand how the Brooklyn unloading movers were booked for November 18th when my truck was clearly only rented for one day on November 11th. The entire day was horrific and I am glad it is over but your truck rental people are a real nightmare and your service staff are really unfriendly. It was a horrible experience. You gave me a bad truck, empty tank of gas and completely botched moving help booking. i feel I should get money back from you guys.

I wanted to use my mobile app for a quick, self service experience but the key to my rental was mussing, then the next vehicle they gave me was blocked in by the keyless truck. It took an hour to complete the rental. Very frustrating.

The only complaint I have was when I needed to extend my rental an additional day. I was at the location, I also rent storage space there, went to the rental desk to extend my agreement, with no problems. Later that day, UHaul Corporate called and texted me regarding the return, unaware it had been extended. Otherwise I am quite impressed with your rental system tech and processes while maintaining distance protocols. Very smooth.

While the physical plant was clean (very COVID conscious) and well stocked the experience was not well organized. Everything was going well until we could not find the van. It took about 30 minutes for the staff to realize it was not available and get a néw one allocated to us. Drop off was a nightmare because at 4:00 employees were not available to assist us

Picking up a van took forever as they looked for the ones that were there then had to change the van they assigned me. When extending my reservation I was told that the price would be balanced out to the cheapest option when I returned it. Instead of that they charge me for two weeks rather than the week I orders then day by day as I had asked on the new day rate with low miles. Wouldn't have kept the van if I wasn't told this.

Your internet functionality is very poor. Pages load as fast as dial-up. Account integration between rentals and storage is poorly integrated. Modifying payment methods doesn't seem to work. In the 21st century I would expect more.

Uhaul changed my pick up location 2 hours before the scheduled time. The location was way further than the requested one and resulted in additional travel time to pick up and return the truck, but Uhaul did not adjust my return time. In addition, since they changed the time and location in the last minute, I could not reschedule my movers so I had to pay for an additional hour of service. Last but not least ... when returning the truck, it took almost an hour to be able to log into the app and go through the whole process. Incredibly unsatisfying service

They charging me a cleaning fee I was so mad about I went back within 40 minutes. The truck was spotless, I only drive it from DC to NYC and left two empty water bottles. They reversed the charge but I found it unacceptable I had to go back and fight for a charge that wasn't needed nor valid.

Nay was the best part of the experience. She helped us navigate this poor experience. We shouldn't have been able to book our uhaul bc they were overbooked so we had to move all of our plans Saturday morning when we found out that there was no car for us

My daughter lived in Brooklyn, NY and she is moving to Neptune, NJ. On 5 October 2020 I placed a reservation to pick up a Cargo Van at your location at 1740 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11213. For some reason, this location did not have any Cargo Vans. So I told them I would take a box truck. Then I was told that there were no box trucks at this location. I was then redirected to the 394 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215 location. To find out that there were only box trucks at this location. So I said that I would take the box truck. Then I was told on 30 October 2020, that there were no box trucks only cargo vans. Then I was told that there were no one way rentals that I would have to return the cargo van back to Park Slope. Do to the inconsistency with your locations and with the 800 number team on the phone, there was nothing but confusion and chaos. The local location and the 800 number is apparently not on the same page. Even though, I had to drive back to Park Slope, the location is clean and organized. The staff is very friendly and willing to help. Just correct the communication between local and 800 number teams.

After being told by a U Haul rep on the phone that our pick up was confirmed in Park Slope, we got to Park Slope, waited in line for an hour, and were told our truck was not there but in Queens, 1.5 hours away. They refused to be helpful at all even though U Haul confirmed the pick up time and location. To make matters worse the team simply walked away from us when we were asking for their help. We had only a two hour window to move in our building and had spent money on movers to help us load the U Haul in that time window - it was impossible for us to go to Queens and get a truck. Then finally I spoke to the GM who said they would give us a truck and gave us paperwork and a key, after escorting us outside - only to learn it was a van! We ended up having to pay a moving company last minute to move and we spent an extra $800 dollars. I will never go here again.

This was technically the 3rd location Uhaul had "updated" my pick up to. I understand that things can change with rentals, but if there's a guarantee for the pick up it really shouldn't change less than 24hrs before a reservation.

My reservation did NOT exist. I was forced to take an uber at 11:45PM to Park Slope, only to be told by the Uhaul application that I had to return to this location WHEN IT OPENED AT 7AM. So.... I did that. I took ANOTHER Uber at 6:45AM to arrive at Park Slope, only for the application to tell me MY RESERVATION DID NOT EXIST. I had to beg the customer service lady who was working to please give me ANY truck she had available. I needed a 17-foot truck, but received a 10-foot truck. I am thankful I received a truck at all, but because I wasn't anticipating having such a small truck, I had to make multiple trips during my move, which completely screwed up my moving process. I had hired two movers to load the truck, but they could only help with the first half, because we agreed on this being a one-shot deal. Uhaul really screwed me this time. I talked to my buddy down the street, and he told me the SAME thing happened to him, with the reservations not existing for him. What the F*ck is going on? I plan on calling customer service myself to get refunded. Friday was easily one of the worst days of my life because of this.

Only one day in advance, I was notified that my reservation location had been changed without my approval. I reserved a truck in Bushwick for a very specific reason, in terms of where I'm located. With merely day's notice, I was told I would have no choice but to pick up my rental in Park Slope. As a result, I called that location and asked if I would be permitted to keep my van parked in the parking lot of the U-Haul facility, as I am not located anywhere near Park slope, and did not have the luxury of searching for free all-day street parking. I was told by a supervisor or manager at that location that yes, I would be permitted to do that. When I arrived the next morning, another random employee assured me that no, I would definitely not be able to do that. After wasting 20 to 30 minutes of my time looking for parking in the neighborhood, I called back to let them know that I probably would not be able to return the truck by 5 PM, the time I had originally designated as my return time. It turned out that I was speaking to the person with whom I had spoken a day earlier, and she apologized and said that I in fact WOULD be able to park my van there, and was nice enough to push my return time back to 7 PM. The only problem was, they CLOSE at 7 PM and did NOT notify me that the lot would be locked, and that I would be unable to return the truck or retrieve my van until the following morning. Why something like this wouldn't be mentioned given the circumstances and the timing, I don't know, but due to the last-minute change-up and the miscommunication that morning, I ended up getting stuck in terrible rush-hour traffic, causing me to be unable to get back to Brooklyn and return the truck in time to drop it off and retrieve my van. Luckily, I was not charged for a second day, and my van was not towed or ticketed, however this entire experience made those two days extraordinarily difficult and inconvenient, to say the least.

I went to rent a trailer and the lady at the register told me that they didn't have any trailers which was not true because the site was allowing me to reserve it and I drove around to where they keep the trailers and there were at least 4 of them. I reserved it online and checked in online and she still managed to keep me there for 30 minutes to finish the paperwork so I can get the trailer, I reserved it for 6 hours and she was made it her business to tell me that I needed to be back by 10 when the reservation said 11:30pm. Then once I finally made my way to the back the man that was supposed to give me the trailer was taking his time when I was clearly in a rush since the lady at the register already took 30 mins away from me. I had to run and find the extender wire for the lighting because he kept going in circles acting like he was looking for one. These employees do not have any type of professionalism or consideration for their customers time.

In the checkout process I didn't check the items I requested since it weren't in the process , 2 dolly's when I reached my destination and opened the back door found only one dolly was there , the basic one not even the appliance I requested, I was charged for the 2 dollies anyway, there should be a section to verify the items you are renting and take the pics of the same

Location does not have enough staff on end of months and weekend busy times. Also 5pm closing puts pressure on staff and created unneeded traffic jam....keep location open longer to properly to receive trucks. Online return does not work, as not every one willing to do location sharing on phone.

The location and staff were very nice and I highly recommend it!! Really appreciate everyone's kindness at this branch. What needs attention is the self check system in for a rental truck. It requires a lot of information that I did not know ahead of time to come prepared with. A better approach would be to let me know what information I need and ensure that my contacts who need to be called are actually awake to answer the phone. The whole thing was slow and frustrating and made the experience poor overall.

In addition, the staff was poorly informed and ill equipped to answer questions. Pros - convenient location and mattress dolly. Cons - the gate card didn't work twice when activated- had to wait 30 minutes inside. When I got to my unit you had to go up two sets of stairs to get to it - as I was unloading furniture this would have been a nightmare. The unit inside was dark - like a dungeon! I sadly had to load up all my stuff and go to another business to store my items. An elevator would have been really helpful

The physical plant was clean and well maintained. The staff is universally professional. But there are several issues: 1. The facility allows non-employees to roam around offering to "help" customers more in and out; most are well-mannered but some guys are aggressive and made the female customers uncomfortable and threatened. Only employees and customers should be allowed on the premises. 2. The facility is terribly understaffed. During busy periods, there was literally a line out the door because the same people process truck rentals as manage the purchase of moving supplies. On several occasions, I walked out rather than stand in line for 45 minutes during a pandemic when more than a few customers and employees were not wearing masks or had them dangling around their necks. 3. The staff fails to rigorously enforce a mask policy in the store. 4. There are frequently not enough carts available during busy periods. 5. The parking lot was sometimes so packed with vans that it was impossible to park in the customer section.

I love the location at 394 4th Ave in Brooklyn. They have excellent customer service and the location is a New Yorkers dream....moving truck and storage all in one place. The hours of operation are the best of any Uhaul in Brooklyn and again can’t say enough about how the staff works together to service the clients. It’s wonderful to see.

Unfortunately, kind of a frustrating experience. had a few helpful staff members but I showed up with a mobile reservation and it was very unclear where I was supposed to go to get the keys, and then I went to the key pickup desk and the person there told me, 'if you don't have a key number, go wait in the line…', and I still don't really know what that means. I said I had an online reservation but she still said, go to the back of the line, which does seem to move quite slowly. Took about an hour of the rental time, and then when I got back, had a bunch of problems getting into the storage unit. Didn't get an explainer on the swipe-in system which is somewhat complicated, and came back and they did explain but I was in the system under the wrong name so I just couldn't get up the elevator at all and had to come back. So I had a ton of wait time that tacked onto my day significantly. I did have some staff who helped me out, but I was surprised that the process involved a lot of inefficiency and just wanted to pass along so you knew. I'm sure there's a lot that goes into all of this, and I know the staff is quite busy too, so many thanks and hoping this proves helpful.

The women at the registration desk have much to be desired. I wish that it wasn't so gendered. The don't look at you in the eye, which is especially critical with masks. For me it was confusing at the start with the keypad check in and checkout for elevator access. Having someone there to walk you through the process would be great but because of Covid it’s understandable that staffing is limited. Nothing on website explains what split level meant, so I was unsure what to expect and explains why the unit heights are 6’ high. Thankfully I didn’t get an upper level unit or that would’ve been major issues. I love the online reservations!

Liked that there were cubes replicating the actual sizes of the spaces making it simple to choose and make a final decision. Only need I think might help, after getting the paperwork done, it would be helpful to be taken to the space as a first run-as its a huge facility and I don't like having to follow maps, even the most simple.a skill that I lack. The system to get in the store and the navigation for shopping vs. waiting in line for spaces vs truck rental were disorganized. I waited in line for over a hour. I asked for clarification on what I needed to close my storage unit, they said “You gotta wait in line.” So I stood in line for one hour and 20 minutes. Was told by a employee on the lot that I could not park where the trucks park and was not offered a viable solution of where to park in exchange, met with attitude. The storage unit that I reserved online was not available when I arrived and after waiting in line for almost one hour the associate assigned me a storage unit that was smaller in size then what I reserved without thinking I would notice. Then after requesting assistance to move to a larger unit they were completely rude and honestly the worst customer service experience. However, the storage unit is the cheapest around so I guess that comes with cheap customer service too. Very disappointed. I would have preferred them be honest about not having the unit rather than just giving me any available unit that was not the correct size.

I will be writing to U-Haul HQ to recommend that you put in place a zero tolerance of abuse of your staff similar to e.g. the MTA in New York City - the communication style of your customers is generally abusive and your staff have a coping mechanism to tolerate it that essentially tunes it out ... it's quite something to observe ... added to this a number of staff at this location are African American. At this moment in time it's essential that you act immediately to address this. The staff at this location are wonderful, kind, helpful and putting up with an outrageous amount of aggressive behavior. I am not sure why that is happening, but it should be stopped and immediately.

Compared with my experience at other local storage facilities this one was definitely below par. The office staff was not helpful or efficient and seemed annoyed by simple questions. There is a 2x1 foot column taking up precious space in the unit I was assigned which I wasn't told about prior to renting and only found out about when I started moving into the unit. I had to wait a half hour for someone to address this issue and then another half hour to find out there wasn't really another alternative; all the while paying my movers to wait around at $150/hour....This is not good customer service! Also there was food spilling out of two units, not to mention rodent traps everywhere. When I mentioned this to one of the staff they said, "well, some people actually live in their units" This seems completely unacceptable to me. How could your staff know this and not do anything about it? Not sure how long I will stay. It's not a bad facility but you should really work on your customer service.

There are a few places where improvement is needed. It seems one of the elevators is chronically under repair. Also, I had trouble loading the van when I moved out. It seemed there were a great many vehicles from the staff that were parked in the very few spaces that are available to the customers to get stuff in and out of their storage unit. I didn't notice before I moved out because I walked to my storage unit to drop off/pick up just a few things at a time. There were way too many UHaul vans parked behind the spots making it really hard to maneuver. I understand the staff need a place to park, but when say 10 out of 12 spaces are taken, the customers suffer. Lastly, it could have just been the day, but the bathrooms on the third floor and ground floor were a mess. I had used the 3rd floor bathroom two hours before and it was clean and stocked. I know you cannot monitor all bathrooms, but this storage space seemed to have a problem with the bathrooms just about any time I used them. Again, I know you have limits, but something must be done to serve the paying customers. Cheers!
