I've been here before and had a good experience, so I didn't check for reviews. I wish I had. Somewhere I missed that the furniture blankets I ordered weren't guaranteed to be there. If someone had called to let me know, I could have picked some up earlier at the Novato location - but it was the opposite direction from where I was meeting my movers just 30 minutes after picking up the truck. The phone app was cumbersome and not as easy as I expected it to be. The truck was not in great condition and I worried that the transmission would not make it through the move. The staff seemed very nice.

Rental truck was dirty and had a cracked windshield. Operating crew was disorganized, it took them 10 minutes to find the key for the contact they just wrote. They found the key in a stack marked “out repair “ total time to process my reservation was almost 1 hour. This was probably the least satisfactory rental I’ve ever had from a uhaul franchise.

I reserved a trailer in Vallejo and when I went to pick it up they said I had to go to San Rafael to pick it up. The very large man at the counter said that I should have got an email telling me the trailer was located in San Rafael. The Large man did not care at all about my complaint and was rude. If he does not like his job, he should quit. If he can get out of his chair.

I explained to the GM my frustrations with the tires and the fact of TPMS light coming on with frequent stops to fill up air so light can go away. I’m addition that I felt Very I safe in a truck with bald tires and he said he would take care of everything. Based on my CC bill, nothing was taken care of and I was over charged.

The man working there called me 30 minutes before I was intending to pick it up and told me it wasn’t available and then called back few minutes later saying he had “found” it. Also wanted a 20 feet but they called me day before saying they only had a 26 feet but made me pay the difference.

Don't arbitrarily push back timeframes for a rental by 5 entire hours just a day beforehand, permanently messing up a schedule, and be unwilling to work with any plan for alternative drop off locations. Oh, that's just how it goes right, shit happens? Well no one has to use your service again either, that's just how it goes.

My experience with U-Haul of San Rafael was terrible. I made a reservation a week previous and received notification Thursday that a truck will be available for pickup at 10am Saturday as per my request. The San Rafael location is 40 minutes away, However it as convenient as I was moving items from a Storage unit which was located near this pickup location, I had arranged a drop off for a location that was closer to where I am moving, to avoid a round trip which would have been 80 minutes of driving. So Saturday morning arrives and we start our 40 minute drive towards San Rafael for my 10 am pickup. At exactly 9:58 am I receive a text from U-Haul saying my reservation will be ready at 2:30 Pm now on Saturday. Mind you I’m 38 minutes into my drive on 580 on a Saturday in the Bay Area. At this point I was 10 minutes away from the location. I call and ask the manager why this is the case, and all I am told is there’s nothing we can do, and I can’t make a truck appear out of nowhere sir. I am also told that ‘this why we rely on people like you to return equipment on time’. Ok so now I am being lectured and all I did was make a reservation? He tells me the people who had the truck extended their reservation at 9am. To which I ask why am I told at 9:58 for my 10 am reservation? He says I don’t know, you will have to ask my traffic department. So I ask simply will there a be a truck at 2:30, to which I am told yes. I then ask is there a chance at 2:28 I will be told, now sir your reservation is cancelled. I then call the main U-Haul number and get the traffic department. I ask them is it possible to get a truck from another location, they tell me ‘no sir we don’t have anything else available now until 2:30 at any location, I even looked all the way to Sacramento.’ I say ok and then ask, is there a chance at 2:28 I will receive a message saying my reservation would be cancelled? What is the point of having a reservation if it’s just going to be cancelled ? I am assured no sir, there are plenty of units coming back and you will be guaranteed a truck at 2:30 sir. Ok so this is major pain in the neck as I was planning to pick up the truck at 10 move my stuff and meet someone on the other side at my new housing location at 1pm. So now I have to drive back 30 plus minutes and meet the new landlord earlier and then turn back around and drive back the other way to get my truck at the new 2:30 time. This is a major inconvenience but I make it all happen and start heading north again thru pretty crappy traffic. I was then wrong in my original thought as now it’s 2:31 and I’m about 5 minutes away from U-HAUL and I get a call and I am told the truck I am renting is not available. So this is basically my worst nightmare, and something I asked and was reassured would not happen. I am then told I can go into San Francisco and get a truck which is available. Ok so now tell me how that makes sense, I have to now drive from Marin to SF pay another Bridge toll to then

The folks from San Rafael we're able to help me with this mess u-haul national created, we agreed on a smaller truck as opposed to me going all the way into SF. Never again will I reserve through u-haul.com.

The employees are wonderful except The manager Juan . He is extremely full of himself and obnoxious. The day before yesterday when I rented the U-Haul the very nice lady who helped me recommend a package of straps . She kindly opened it and said if I keep everything together I could retort if I did not use it I also got roped as well. Yesterday as I was returning the trailer , I was Re to return the items as I did not use it. Monica was it there so Juan said I could not return it . I told him that I was very specific with Monica and she said o could return it . He refused and said he could only return the ropes . He asked for my receipt and the only one Monica gave me was for U hail He said he could give me store credit only and he could not look up receipt even though it was yesterday. His way of communication, his demeanor was poor and pompous. Any other member if that team would do a far better job at customer service than him. He is a deterrent to other customers

The 27/7 "truck share app" is a total failure, so is the help line where it took 45 mins to get someone and the verification person "Sean" was extremely rude and probably should not be working in customer service. Wasting time with the useless "pick up" app cost me over 1 1/2 hrs of my valuable time....UHaul needs to reengineer the whole app verification process....why should some contact of mine have to be called at 7:45 AM on Sunday to verify who I am for a stupid truck rental contract? I've learned my lesson, never again...

The person outside said I needed to go inside when I got there, even though I mentioned I singned up for online check-in...I don’t think that was accurate...I did the check-in on my phone, then got out of the line, went outside, picked up the truck & drove away. Your systems are terrible. Takes forever and constantly crashing causing long transactions and wait times. Overall the U Box worked great with on time delivery across country and no damage all safe and secure. However, no email that it arrived, no way to track the UBox (its 2019 , get some technology. Staff at San Rafael and Hyannis were super helpful but the systems are weak. Also get a kiosk for buying boxes and other materials, Have to wait in long line for basic, easier to go to Home Deport. UBox, great, people great, experience re systems not so good.

There was only one employee working the counter both times I was there for pick up and return. In both cases that one employee was doing the best they could do.

Upon booking the 24 hr mobile check in service it would be helpful if the customer was informed ahead of time to expect to take pictures through the app of the driver, ID, odometer, the inside of the cab, etc. Otherwise the check-in/check-out process was intuitive and seamless.

I would give it a 5 star review due to having everything, every truck available. The only thing that was not convenient was how many employees vs customers. There was only 1 guy handling the Register with a long waiting line. Plus a guy outside that made me park the truck for him a certain way because he was moving alll the other trucks

Service on the phone getting an estimate, purchasing the hitch and making a reservation was good. The installation was a different story. Because there is no place to wait my wife had to leave the location and twice encountered males who made upsetting comments to her. You should be aware of this.

Twice I made advanced reservations for a one-way rental from San Rafael to Roseville, CA only to find out the day before pickup that I would have to go to another (not very close) location to pick up the truck. This was maybe the 4th of 5th time I’ve rented from this location and the equipment I ordered wasn’t available. Also, why is there only one person working the entire location? The line was out the door. It took incredibly long to be served (at no fault of the employee). If you are going to be a rental business, I need more certainty that when I reserve equipment, I am guaranteed that equipment.

They were AMAZING to deal with. This is not the first time I have rented a truck from this location and each time it just gets better. From the moment I made my reservation, to the time I had to move up my reservation (I got lucky there was even a truck available), to picking up the truck (I think Ann helped me? She was a young brunette girl who just got it), to dropping the truck off (think his name was Luis). I was SO impressed with how accommodating and flexible they were/ are. THEN when I dropped off the truck, I discovered I had left my overnight bag with my valuables in there. When I went back to see if it was turned in, they had it ready for me. The staff just really cares about their customers and it shows. Moving SUCKS and they make this part of the experience so much easier. This is by far THE BEST place to rent a vehicle. Thank you everyone!!!

The vehicle I rented did not have complete maintenance before being checked out to me. Halfway to my home I noticed the low tire warning light was on. Arriving at home I checked the tires and found one to be extremely low. Not a safe situation when one will be using a vehicle to carry heavy loads. I also noticed a large dent on the vehicle which had not been recorded by u-haul. I called immediately to report both issues.

I reserved a truck on Wednesday April 24th. A 17 foot truck to be picked up at 9am. I received a call from someone at this location Friday April 26th (the day before I was moving) saying that the truck I reserved was not available and that no trucks were going to be available to pick up at 9am from anywhere in the surrounding area. I had plans implemented to move, cogs that were put into place weeks ago, people were scheduled to help me and this messed everything up. The only thing I could get was a 10 foot van picked up at 4pm. It was a nightmare.

No matter when I go there is always a wait.. I use this facility quite often as it is close to where I work and we use a lot of their supplies. We also rent vehicles from them several times a year. There is never a problem with the vehicles and they always have the one that we need. I think it's just part of the process to have to wait in line to conduct your business.

There’s a big disconnect between the main office/app and the local dealer. My truck assigned online was completely blocked. The number of customers ahead of me combined w the 2 man staff meant 30 minutes to complete my rental. Meaning to get access to a truck. Also using app drop-off at this location is always interrupted by the local staff racing me to check in the vehicle themselves. This makes the time I spend with self check in a waste. It also has created a system confusion in previous rentals.

I rented a 17 foot truck with several weeks notice, then a few days before was told none would be available, and they had provide a smaller, as opposed to larger vehicle. This cost time and caused me to have to make more than one trip, which as they charge by the mile was expensive, and seems like with a few days notice could have been solved on Uhaul's end. I tried to book a 26’ trick but you were out. I settled for a 17’. I booked it for 24 hours 4:00 pm to 4:00 pm. When I arrived at 5;25 I waited in line ten minutes, I got to the front and the manager told me he had given away my reservation and there were NO trucks or vans available. I was very upset that no one had told me that this could happen. No one ever mentioned that if you are a little late due to traffic, you’re SOL. I called my wife, who had dropped me off and gone home to come pick me up. I went back inside to ask when I could rent ANY truck. Miraculously the manager found a 10’ van for that night, but I had to have it back by noon. I called my wife and told her to turn around and go home again! Then the truck they tried to give me had a gaping hole in the sidewalk of the right rear tire, oops. They pulled another truck and I was on my way. I managed to pack the puny van to the roof for my move. Needless to saymy two desks were damaged in the move and various other items were scratched. Overall FAIL! I am saving this commentary will decide soon whether or not to share it.

First time renting a truck from Uhaul. My only complaint is: my reservation was for 4:00pm. Being busy preparing for a big moving day, I was not able to pickup the Uhaul until 5:00pm. Returned the truck 24 hours and 13 minutes later (took awhile to login to the Uhaul online site). Even though I had the truck for 24 hours, because my reservation was at 4:00pm, Uhaul is calling 25 hours so I’m being charged for 48 hours. Wish there was some sort of grace period or if they charged for actual time the rental is in use. Overall, was a good experience, just feel overcharged

I came into U-Haul three times: once to reserve a vehicle, once to pick up the vehicle and once to return the vehicle. Each time I had to wait over 10 minutes for anyone to help me. There was never more that one person at the counter. When I reserved the vehicle, the woman that finally waited on me was far more interested in chatting with a fellow employee than helping me. I had to repeat just about everything I said to her. The next two times, I did not see the same woman, but the service was no better. I’d have to say, the employees there have very poor customer communication skills!

I have used this location quite a few times and have always been very satisfied. After putting around 30 miles on it I noticed that the transmission fluid was leaking severely. I open the hood and saw a used fluid bottle cap which led me believe that there was already a problem. It is a good thing I only had a few miles left on it after that.

With over 3 years of experience with this location, I can confirm this facility's business model is based on 5 guiding pricipals: 1. Limit management and staff training to that of "flipping-burgers" school. That is, there is none, 2. Rule of conduct is: "Do your assignment only. Ignore customers awaiting help or service," 3. Make access to service counter an obstacle course at each and every opportunity. 4. Park rental vehicles & displays in spots most convenient to staff. Make customers use off-site spots. 5. Reply to customer concerns only with condescending & patronizing dismissals. My sole reason for using this facility is there is no other rental option in town. The solitary staff member of any merit is a young lady named Monica. I'd fire all others yesterday.

The only problem I ever have there is that at times there are not enough employees to handle the customer load. I am aware that in a business like this it is difficult to gauge when you are going to have a rush and therefore knowing when and how many to staff. Also, I have had this experience at almost every u-haul rental facility I have been to. It takes time to fill out a contract and cross the t's and. the I's. I think the best approach is to give yourself plenty for the transaction. Once you're on the road, there is generally no problem but traffic.

My reservation was cancelled. The guy in the store was helping customers on the phone while I was standing right there. He didn't listen or look up the reservation info, and booked a 4-Hour rental instead of a 2-Day rental. The van he offered had 1/4 tank if gas!! I refused that van, and was given a van with only 1/2 a tank. It had feather stuck to the passenger seat, and some kind of seeds all over the cargo area floor. There was bird poop, too. By then, it was too late to exchange, so I took the van as-is, and covered the floor and seat with moving blankets. I never signed a paper contract, he did not review the terms of the rental, other than insurance and gas. I assumed the rental period was the same as the reservation I had made, and learned otherwise when I got a message from U/Haul the next day.

I keep getting harrassed to pay for container storage fees, and I am not storing anything. My shipment arrived late due to negligence on the part of the originating location attempting to store my items rather than loading it on the truck. Now I am being asked to pay continued starage fees for a container I DO NOT HAVE STORED. So my items arrived late, and now I am being fraudulently asked to pay for storage I either already paid for or have not used. Rather than resolving, or issuing disvount for delay, I am being asked to pay more. Worst customer service. Will never use or recommend again.

When mentioned to him that he was charging for another day for showing up 20 minutes early he answered in a combative way and demanded that I “let him finish his sentence”. The people working the desk are rude, mean and know nothing about customer service. I am a disabled woman and the jerk wouldn't even help me put 30 boxes in the car. He also shooshed me away in the middle of my transaction to help the guy behind me. The day before another employee yelled at a customer who was finishing his transaction...telling him to move his car. He said it's not blocking anything and I am almost finished checking out, I'll be there in a few minutes...but the employee continued to berate him. One morning I went in when no one was there and the guy at the desk refused to acknowledge me...I was right in front of him, but he wouldn't look up. I had to say, hello...excuse me....3 times until he responded like I was such a bother. So there you go.

I use your services pretty often, and this location has always been so helpful. My only complaint is the lack of parking for the customers. There are SOOOOO many trucks and vans that are sitting there with quite a bit of parking space around them, yet it is all blocked off with orange cones. Parking is a real issue.

I'd recommend U-Haul with reservation. I was quoted twice one price, $264.80 including tax. I was given another price when I got there, which is almost like a bait and switch tactic, and while the GM worked hard to keep the cost down, I still paid $20 more. The money is not the issue; the principle is. So I am disappointed that you did not honor the price I was quoted twice. I feel you owe me $20.
