The truck was perfect, and using the app was amazing. However the pick up experience was really bad, and if if was like this again, I wouldn't come back. I completed the app pick up process in a few minutes and was then directed to get my key from the front desk. I came at a busy time on a Saturday, so there were 12 people in line in front of me, but there was only one associate working. This caused me to have to wait in line for 50 minutes before getting my key, causing me to be 40 minutes late to my move. The app pick up instruction video made it seem like I could pick up my key from an electronic lock box, which I think is a fantastic idea. However at this location I was directed to speak to an associate to get my key. This unexpected step caused me great frustration.

My appointment was at 2:00PM and estimate for the installation was 1 to 1:30 hrs. It got done at 5:30PM! 3 and a half hours later! No explanation or apology was offered. This was a terrible experience and I will not be returning to this facility again. Neither will I be recommending this facility to any of my acquaintances.

The Good: I made a reservation for 24/7 pick up. I followed the app's instructions to inspect the truck and everything. The app is easy to follow and well-designed. Kudos to the app developer! The Bad: I got to the point where I needed to get the key. The app says, "Skip the line! Go to the front and ask for the key." So I went to the front and asked for the key. The person said, "Ma'am, I'll be right with you," but continued to help the people in line, ignoring me. This is frustrating because the app said specifically said that I didn't have to wait in line. I used the "Live Chat" feature to confirm my understanding. The Live Chat agent recommended that I ask again, so I did, citing the live chat conversation. This time, the staff person begrudgingly leaned over and gave me the key. In conclusion, if U-Haul promises a "skip the line" experience, train the staff to align with company policy. I lost 30 minutes to this reluctant staff person, and I ended up showing up later than the hired help. I lost labor time and had to rush through the move. This is not the customer experience I was expecting from U-Haul.

Your assistant manager, Cass, went above and beyond in service. He was all by himself on an incredibly swamped weekend afternoon and delivered excellent service. He multitasked his way through a line out the door and treated everyone with grace. He deserves a promotion, or a pay raise at the very least. Companies need to be aware that it is people like him that keep them afloat.

I made reservation to pick up truck at 5:00pm. A 5:24, I received a call but caller did not say his name. CALLER: are you still coming to pick up truck? ME: yes. CALLER: what time are you coming? ME: within the next hour. CALLER: I will hold the truck until 7:00 and if you don't come by then, I will cancel the reservation. ME: why? I just told you I am coming to pick it up and you don't close until 8:00 anyway. CALLER: are you going to own up to your word and come as you said you would? ME: that is very unprofessional of you, may I please have you name. Caller refused to give me his name and instead he hung up. In less than one hour I was picking up the truck and CALLER was on the phone talking to someone about the incident and there were 2 customers in line and with me 3. Later as he was helping the 2nd customer another employee walked in and helped me. When CALLER finished helping the other customer, he came to his coworker who was helping me and kept talking about the incident negatively. I honestly kept myself together without saying a word and only got truck because I was already there and did not want to go elsewhere, as I was short on time. I will never rent from this place again.

The truck was fine, the manager helpful. But the drop in key turn in does not handle multiple keys well. I turned my key key in at nite, the key fell on the floor, the person picking up the keys was not attentive, it slid under a display, I was going to have to pay for the key if it was not found. Bad system. Each key should have an envelope, with the name of the owner going into a box so they don't go all over the floor.

I waited 1 hr 45 min in-line, witnessed the only employee onsite (his shirt said general manager) curse out a customer, and was given the wrong truck. Because of the delay, my moving crew left and I had to call friends to help me move. I had to pay a $200 fee to the moving company. I will never use u-haul again because I can get better service on other odd job websites like Craigslist, Taskrabbit, or Fiverr, which I just used last week. You should consider automating customer check-ins with kiosks. If it can be done with people checking into flights at an airport, it's possible to do it for rental vans.

Wait times were ridiculous. Staff were kind and doing their best but every time I went there — even to buy a box — was 30+ minutes. Buying/reserving online did not help; still slow. Also the internal systems seemed antiquated and difficult to use..,seemed to be a struggle for the staff to get anything done.

There was no place to park while you use the rented vehicle. There's really no street parking convenient to the location, either. The line was over an hour and a half long. I showed up 20 min early to my reservation. Everyone in the line had a reservation. There was only 1-2 employees (mostly 1 because of lunches) scheduled to be there. Trailer was well used and had definitely been around the block once or twice, but functioned perfectly well. Based on system of correspondence I was left feeling a little unsure weather my trailer would be available at pickup time, but it was indeed available to my great relief. In the end all worked out well, thank you U-Haul.

There was one attendant trying to help 10+ people and move all the returned vehicles. He was very nice and really polite but very obviously overworked! There is no way one person can do all that needs to be done, especially on a day when a lot of people are moving. Please consider adding a staff member?

Speed up the process a bit? But that’s not really a big deal. I want to complement the employees who helped me - I had reserved a 20 footer truck, which was unavailable as the previous renter had not returned it yet and there was no ETA. The employees came up with multiple options and helped me pick an alternative that would work best for me - it turned out better than what I had originally reserved :-) Would definitely recommend UHaul & the Sunnyvale location to anyone.

Made reservation to secure a van. When I went there on Sunday I could not use the pickup ap. Called customer service and was on hold or bounced from one person to another for 30 minutes. When I did get the right person they said my van was not ready because it was returned late. I received no message telling me this. I drove 2 hours to this facility, waited on phone for 30 minutes and was then told to drive another 30 minutes to another facility. This backed up our moving over 1 1/2 hours. This is the second time in the last year my reserved equipment was not available. I am not a happy customer.

Incredibly understaffed. We reserved a truck at 9 am on a Saturday. We got there at 9 am and there was a line out the door. There was only one person working the counter, and he had to get the trucks and everything. It took an hour to move 4 people forward. One lady in line called customer service to complain and changed her reservation to another location after voicing polite but strong frustrations. Two people just quit the line all together, and those were just the people in front of me! We tried checking in online through both the online portal and through the app. It didn't work. Then, as sort of the cherry on top, another employee walks in after we've all been in line for an hour and announces, "Everyone, you can change your reservation to be checked in online and skip the line? You just need to follow and read the instructions." We are at a location at the heart of Silicon Valley. You dont think almost everyone tried that? We just wanted to queue for over an hour for our health? I finally got my reservation almost and hour and half later. Movers had come to my house already and were just waiting for me. No one offered any mitigating discounts or apologies. The only part of it that was ok was driving the truck and returning it. So, every part in which any other service could have provided that wasn't UHAUL? The savings on frustrations and moving on schedule alone would probably be worth paying for a different company.

The only glitch was I got a disturbing call from a staff person on Sunday telling me I had to have the trailer back by noon that day. He was mistaken because the paper work he had did not reflect the change I had made on Friday to extend the rental to three days from two and bring it back on Monday. He was very argumentative about it.

I had 2 orders: 22182964 for the van and 90971520 for a towing trailer. I picked up my van around 12PM and told the clerk that I would pick up the trailer around 5PM. at 5PM I came to pickup a trailer and after connecting it to the van found out that the right turn signal wasn't working. Had to wait for 2hrs until the it's fixed. Equipment should have been checked and fixed before a customer picks it up. Waisted 2 hrs waiting and stuck in traffic because of that.

I showed up to the store after having made my reservation the day before. I noticed there was a long line, which I had no problem waiting to pick up the rental. When it was my turn, I noticed the individual was the general manager. I asked him if he was the only person working that morning and he said “yes”. I then asked him if that was normal for a Saturday morning & he said “No”. I then asked if his team “no showed” that morning and he said “yes”. I was very impressed with the general manager because he was very positive, knowledgeable, & put his best foot forward despite his team not being present that morning. He made me feel welcome & excited to use your services. After I turned the rental in, the team was present to help us with the drop off. I will definitely be using Uhaul again after having such a smooth day with the rental and being treated really well by the staff. Thank you all for your hard work!

Apparently I received a citation while using your trailer. I assume it was for crossing a bridge and not paying the toll, although I have FasTrak. I want the actual citation so I can get in touch with the issuing agency and contest it. The penalty is twice the amount of what it would have been if the bridge agency had simply charged the appropriate amount for my truck pulling a two axle trailer.

The truck had two dangerous faults: the driver side mirror kept tilting down, and the sun visor fell on me while driving. The clerk who I left my keys with refused to listen, too.

Unfortunately our rental truck had an O2 sensor failure which occurred literally 10 minutes into our drive. We immediately stopped the truck and contacted U-Haul's roadside assistance to get help with the issue. U-Haul was excellent with their follow-up, and sent a mechanic to troubleshoot the issue. He even went to get the part and attempted to replace the failed sensor, but the original part would not budge. U-Haul advised that I could drive the truck even though the sensor had failed and the check engine light was illuminated. The truck had no other issues on its four hundred Mile drive. U-Haul gave us an additional five hours on the rental (it was due in at 10 A.M.) because of the time lost waiting for the mechanic to check and attempt to fix the vehicle. They were ready to replace the truck and supply assistance with moving the contents if needed. U-Haul's maintenance on its vehicles has been fine in our experience. There is no way to have been able to predict the failure of the O2 sensor. This issue will not deter me from using U-Haul again in the future.

Promote mobile check in. The line to check in was two dozen people long, well over 90 minutes just to pick up a truck even after checking in. I contacted UHaul and got converted to a fully mobile check in and was able to bypass the line. This definitely needs to be more obvious to prevent backups like I experienced.

The truck would not shift into higher gear several times. This would mostly happen after applying brakes. This caused me a lot of problem driving it on the freeway and was also not safe. I had a lot stuff to move and had arranged the movers to load/unload so didn’t want to go through the hassle of coming in and asking for a fully functional truck as I would loose on time and delay everything. Please have your trucks properly inspected and test driven in real operating conditions and not just driving through the parking lot.

There was only a single person working on Saturday morning, doing both counter check-in and vehicle prep. On top of that, he didn't seem very interested in working quickly to get through everyone in a timely manner. This meant that it took 10-15 minutes per customer to get them set up so, depite being only 4th in line when I arrived, it took close to 45 minutes to get my vehicle. When I did get the vehicle, the employee did not communicate well what needed to be done. He brought the vehicle up, opened the back and kinda wandered off for a few minutes without saying a word. Please have more than one employee working on a Saturday morning (presumably the busiest day of the week)

1) Weekends are busy. There's no excuse for having one clerk checking in truck rentals. God bless him he did his best and I tried to keep things light and make him laugh to improve his day...but good God, one poor soul in line had to wait in line more than half an hour just to buy two rolls of tape! You need to staff up for the weekend. 2) There absolutely MUST be customer parking. There's no excuse for not having customer parking on site. If I need a truck again, I'll be looking for a location with on-site parking.

I used the phone app to complete my registration / contract to pickup the truck. The final step was to "go inside to the *front* of the line and pickup your key". When I went inside there were 8 people in line in front of a small desk and no UHaul workers. After about a 3 minute wait, the *single* UHual worker came in, sat behind the desk and started to address the first person in line (I was to the "side" of the line). When I asked if I could get my key, the UHaul worker huffed, got up and got my key and called me "rude". I explained I was just following the process which said, go to the front of the line and pickup your key. So, the employee was rude to me and all of the people waiting in line were acting like I was doing something wrong. I would suggest you provide a *DESIGNATED* phone app line and inform employees how the process is supposed to work.

If there’s a long line give customers option to check out on mobile app. We called in after 3 transfers and was told we can mobile check in and skip the line after waiting an hour in line. Thanks to the lady on the 3rd transfer we didn’t have to wait on the line that moved us only half way after an hour.

I had a reservation at 9 AM, I arrived at 8:45. I waited 1 1/4 hours in line. There was one person working on a Saturday of a 3 day weekend!. He had to do everything contracts, pulling up trucks, trailers, etc. By the time I got out was 10:45. I wasted 2 hours. I will never go back!

U-Haul made what could be a potentially stressful time moving the least of our concerns. By making a quick and easy ,convenient to rent use and return I would definitely use them again or recommend them to anyone in need of a larger vehicle!

3 issues I was issued a $10 off certificate from uhaul as they messed up my reservation but the sunnyvale store said they didn't know how to handle it Second issue the fuel tank reading was much higher in the contract then what was on the truck and they claimed to have fixed it "by signing the contract" but it may not have happened on the backend eventho they said they did Third, when i returned the truck I was hit with a massive fuel charge which is pretty much impossible unless their trucks get less then 4 MPG.

Place is ok. Instructions on how to drop keys off sucks. Instructions ask to log on to website and enable location. There was just no way to enable location or was not easy to find one. Instructions also say that location needs be enbled to track you were here at the drop off location. Come on uhaul, how can I drop the keys off without physically being there? So, misleading instructions.

Don't cancel reservations. Have computers that work. Have staff to help customers so the queue doesnt build up 7 people deep. Don't make customers wait 45 minutes who have a reservation. Proper training protocol needed for employees. I returned the van 2 days early and went somewhere else because the experience sucked so bad
