the Return sign for trucks/vans is not clear. It says "Equipment" should also say Truck Returns because otherwise everyone is driving to the parking lot then you have to send guys up there to tell people to turn around and waste a bunch of everyone's time and be inefficient. The rating is due to the extra charges. Charged for storage while I was WAITING for UHaul to deliver the U-Boxes when they didn't have anyone going my way. This is ridiculous. Charged in San Francisco and in Eugene. My UBoxes were in Eugene over a weekend because they couldn't schedule my delivery. Apparently that triggers a month's storage fee for each box. I had this unit for more than 8 years, and everytime I've needed help with anything, the staff here have been a delight to work with. Starting with helping me coordinate the shipment of the pods, renting a truck and renting the storage unit, to any subsequent time that I needed a truck or van to shuffle my things around, every transaction was easy and everyone was always friendly. The building and the unit were easy to access and felt secure, and a truck was available each time I needed to rent one. I've been so impressed, and I'm very happy with my experience. Your staff is so horribly rude! I had a computer error on UHAUL's side, not mine, and the attitude from every person in that office who would not have the patience to allow me to explain the error (from a previous 3 hour phone call since your system does not keep notes on customer service calls) was so terrible. This includes the Hayward office, San Francisco office, and the scheduling department of both offices. I never once raised my voice or insinuated that it was the fault of the person speaking directly to me, but the service was so poor that I hired a private company to pick up my belongings for me instead of organizing with UHaul or Moving Help booking service. Truly terrible all around. The only helpful person at that office is Julissa! She deserves praise (and a serious bonus) for taking some ownership to get me out of a situation that UHaul created.BAFFOUR K.

I was given a van with half of a quarter of tank full. It would have been nice to get a van with more so I didn't have to worry about running out of gas going up the hills of San Francisco. I've rented UHauls from the location on Valencia, and prefer that location's staff and service.Pauline E.
The person at the counter did not seem like she wanted to be there or was, perhaps, having a bad day. Not very friendly or courteous. Strictly business. However, when I returned my truck, the customer service was the complete opposite. Very friendly, personable, and fast. I also had to wait 20 minutes before I can leave with the truck I rented because another truck was blocking my way. In general, I feel like the U-Haul experience is all about making the customer work. We're the ones who have to do the walk-around and take pictures of our ID. It's so automated that you lose the human interaction. Then again, given my experience at the counter, that could be a good thing.AllanS M.

I explained with the mask, the barrier, and the people moving equipment around on the floor, it was hard to hear and I asked her to repeat herself. Overall great experience. I returned my truck at 5pm in the return lane. Since there was a wait with other trucks in front of me, the gentleman working there told me I could just leave my keys in the car and he would email me the receipt. I never received any email and had to call back two hours later to confirm everything was settled and receive my receipt. Also, the first representative who answered my call incorrectly told me that bring offsite prevented her from accessing my info. I rented a 10 ' truck on the 3 of junr 2022 for 24hrs. I also realized that i was gping to be late returning ,so I called uhaul to ask for an extension for 24 more hours .I was told no and that someone has it rsvp .Fine well when i returned the truck only a hour or so late returned it like i got it. The kid checking me in saw that a 24 hr. time extension was added to my contract. And he took it apon himself to change 48 hr. Time rate back to the 24 hr and I wasnt being charged. Awesome so my balance due was like 70 bucks . Wich at the time i did not have the funds on my card ,yet so was declined . Now heres the delima as a manager was asked if its possible to switch the 24 back to 48 like it originaly was asked of me earyier.For a total charge of 190 bucks to be paid the return on the 5 june . Because i had originally reseved the truck to make money selling stuff at flea market just needed more time .The manager said to me just go inside and rent another truck. Obviously he didnt hear me at all when i stated my card has no funds to cover the processsed fee now ,how the helll am i gunna rent and why would i when i still had acees the the same truck just rented because i had no money as of yet. Still the maneger was unprofessional at his job . It would have been easier and every body would have been satisfied ,nut no dude was just being a jerkDAVID B.

We were given the wrong dolly and didn't realize it until too late. Our appliance fell off the dolly. Upon return we told the employee and he said he'd refund the appliance dolly we didn't receive. But then he charged us for the small dolly that was useless and caused us to damage our appliance. Unacceptable! And there was garbage in the back of the uhaul that was not ours.Brian H.

Better communication would have been appreciated at the beginning. On the day that my box was guaranteed to be in NY, it was still sitting in storage in SF. Because it had my mattress and desk and all of the "basics" to work and sleep in my new apartment, it caused a lot of disruption. In the end, it all worked out fine but better communication about the delay initially would have been appreciated. It was also very difficult to find someone on the phone who could give me any detailed status updates - I often heard conflicting information. Thank goodness for some lovely folks (shout out to Jim and Julissa!) who helped with updates.Olivia R.

It should be easier and more streamlined to accept a driver's license over the counter, the way car rental companies have done it since the beginning of time, for anyone who has difficulties with your web-based uploading method. Also, it should not be necessary to contact the emergency contact in advance, nobody else does this. Also, the gas meter was way off when I rented the vehcle. It said "1/4" but it was actually at 1/8. Fortunately I was not charged for gas.Joel R.

the online check-in process and pick-up was horrible, it was more inconvenient than anything I have done. you ask for a passport or a lease agreement when I get to the place to pick up? that was the most stupid way to authenticate on scene. these are the info people need to know the day before or when they're reserving a uhaul. overall experience with the online check in was F, will never recommend it to anyoneAli S.

Customer service is non-existent - not friendly almost standoffish asked for assistance in going out to the the truck as I'm not familiar with the facility and was not provided. When I returned truck minimal interaction from staff. Received a charge for 7 gallons of gas when I barely drove one. Had to call for a refund (the refund was handled quickly) which took unnecessary time out of my day. I rented a truck from Uhaul (Belmont site) three months ago and had no issues. I would absolutely NOT recommend the Bryant Street site due to non-existent customer services and receiving a mistaken charge. I would maybe not recommend Uhaul at all.Leilani C.

Mobile pick up was AWFUL. Took me 30 minutes. And when I was done, I had to walk back to the office (where I had asked where to go to do this) to pick up the key... and there were 2 employees doing nothing except talking to each other behind the counter. You outsourced your people's work to me. Chrome on my iPhone wouldn't launch links on your site when I'd click them. It was AWFUL. You owe me the 25 minutes of my life that should've been spent with my family, if you would have had an employee just check me in and give me a key. HORRIBLE part of the EXPERIENCE. That said, the staff was nice, the van was clean. But HORRIBLE to be told it had to be a mobile pick-up-the-van experience and then have it take so long with no one to help me. AWFUL!!!Andy M.

Everyone was friendly, and the pod was delivered without issue! The pod had some issues though. Only two of the four screws securing the door were attached, and they could easily be removed with a screwdriver. I had no confidence about the security of the pod. Also, the door was of poor quality and gave me multiple splinters.Kevin M.

My only complaint was that communication was often not quite right - eg on Saturday I called to ask if my uBox had already been taken inside and was told it had been, but when I went to return the truck I saw that that was not the case. Not a huge deal but would have done another load had I known the opportunity was still there. All in all a good experience though. Merci!Ian M.

- van return process not intuitive: the drop-off instructions require access to the van, but they are displayed in the key box. I only saw the instructions after returning the key - elevators are unintuitive and a major bottleneck - it takes a long time to access the storage unit: there should be shorter routes - there should be more dollies and carts available for dropoff use. There is no light inside the unit which led to my partner being seriously injured when he slipped on a rat trap inside the unit when we were moving in. The staff was not helpful during that time and refused to extend our truck rental time even though we spent 2 hours in the emergency room before we could use the truck. Since then, however, the staff has been kind. The manager is very friendly and flexible. Although the facility is a little cumbersome to navigate, I was happy with the late hours of operation. I was a bit flummoxed about actual size of spaces and the corresponding costs. was unable to look at an actual space for rent until signed and paid for. i think perhaps the space is on the more expensive end of the list for that size. However, quite fortunately, it also is very easy to access from the loading dock to the space. Key cards never work consistently. It took me two hours with card reader problems to simply move 1 box into my storage unit. I had to go back to the office 4 times to get my card checked. Service staff was condescending and unhelpful. They seemed more concerned about theft prevention than provide us excellent customer service. We were upgrading our unit and the unit size we reserved online wasn't available in reality. No apologies, no empathy, nothing. Your current process made it VERY difficult to transition to a larger unit. We ended up with a smaller size unit and did our best to make it fit our needs. You have us trapped as customers because you know it's not easy for us to move our business elsewhere. The alarms in the building are at an ear damaging decibel and go off regularly. They are unbelievably loud. You should swap out the yellow buttons used to keep carts in their home location. Twice while moving our storage contents we clipped a yellow button and sent our valuables tumbling to the ground. The location is a huge maze and the staff didn't do anything to help show us the easiest route from our old to new storage unit. Half way through our several hour move we identified a closer freight elevator and a much short route between our two points. It would have been nice for the staff to have provided that guidance and improved our experience. The pass card to access the building (which we have been using for years) denied us access into the storage floor and when I took it to the customer representative to find out why she told me our card wasn't assigned to our unit and then proceeded to argue with me when I shared we've only had the one unit will ever at this U-haul location. She we a larger woman and very unpleasant to deal with. I tried to engage with her and be friendly and got nothing from her. Same with the gentleman who helped me. The sign about the large, recent investment in carts above the cart station on level two is tacky and should be taken down. Ensuring there are operational carts and moving tools is a cost of doing business. There were messages all over the building of what we can/can't do and some with associates charges for braking any rule. It didn't add to our experience in a positive way. The only positive point in our experience was a cleaning lady on the fourth floor who could see we were lost, stopped her work and proactively helped us. You need more people like her on staff. Friendly helpful staff, clean building but that elevator scared the crap out of me every time I had to use it, Why not unlock the stairs from all floors but the worst was the bait and switch, I reserved a unit that was to be $84 plus $7 insurance, got to the store and was told they did no have that unit any more would I like this other unit for $96 a month and $7 insurance, why reserve a unit if they just give it away. Dollies all stolen at one point, making it impossible to move belongings through the maze of units. Parking near units impossible. Rat poo in both units (I have given up one unit, but still share another unit with a friend for the time being.) Homeless people clearly living out of some units and camping out in the hallways. Staff generally friendly and professional though. I sympathize that their job is difficult under the conditions at this site.Jenifer W. | Expérience générale

The facility staff on duty is great and the manager Gino is very helpful and it shows that he has great experience in the storage/moving industry which reflects in the way he handles every single account. Your staff was courteous and I felt back for the gal checking us in. We had a bait and switch pulled on us which was quite disconcerting. Not her fault. But I was told on the phone twice that I had reserved a 12 x 7 x 8 on the first floor and arrived to find it wasn't available. I ended up having to get a 2nd space because we couldn't lift the sofabed and some other heavy boxes up the stairs. I was quite disappointed and will now have to call daily to see if another opens up so I can have just one space and on a floor without steps. I had the experience to see other's companies storage places and they were smelly and disgusting. U- haul meet all my needs . Communication with staff was so friendly and helpful also everything is clean and on point . Dolly carts everywhere so moving your stuff is soooooo easy . When I went to check-in, I was told the unit I reserved online was not available and that the system is known to have this issue of incorrectly letting customers reserve a unit that is not actually free. Luckily, another similar unit was available, but this could have been a significant concern if there was not another unit available. This should be fixed. Happy with the accessibility and cleanliness of the location. Providing carts and a free section to leave lightly used items was convenient. No lighting in my unit which made it hard to see in there from just the hallway lighting. But generally a good experience.Audrey F. | Expérience générale
I am so disappointed with this storage place. I called multiple times to ask questions almost a week before my move-in date in order to get some clarification, and no one had any idea how to answer my questions. I was told conflicting things by different people. The website wouldn't let me check-in for a unit and get my one month free from renting a truck. Of course the storage people said there's nothing they can do, so we called 1-800-go-uhaul. The lady did it with us on the phone, and there was still no way to get the free month. She told us to reserve a new unit, pay for it, and present the receipt + truck confirmation at the location for a refund. Of course, the storage people later said they couldn't give me a refund and that I was told ''wrongful information.'' Unbelievable. In addition, because I had to make a new reservation in order to check-in online, I ended up getting a unit that was on top of another one. It took OVER 3 HOURS to take big pieces of furniture up those metal stairs, and my back was destroyed by the end of it. I had specified in the original reservation that I wanted one on the bottom. The map was also useless and it took us over 30mins to even locate the storage unit in the first place. The location is in a terrible area and we had people try to take our stuff, as well as tailgate into the facility after we unlocked the door. I am extremely angry and disappointed, and would not recommend this place to anyone. I can't wait to get my stuff out of there.ISABELLA M. | Online Move In

My units door was ajar and the locking mechanism appeared to have been bent to the point the door was coming off the track- but the manager is going to fix it — i found then extremely helpful because I was moving and my car was over weight so I was easily able to unload the excess weight and make my deadlines to get back on the road safely - I’m very grateful for their courteous help STAFF IS EXCELLENTOlivia H. | Premières impressions

The lack of understanding of the IT systems is ridiculous. We were coming from out of town and were going to arrive after hours and was told that we could not do online check in of our existing reservation, that we either had to check in in person or cancel our reservation and select a "rent now" unit. After 2 hours of frantically trying to rent another unit that the manager said was going to be available, we saw in the footnotes that you CAN check in online. All that stress for nothing. Once we got there after hours, it was very unclear the process for which to access the building using the arm/disarm and unlock gate. Luckily Gene picked up the phone to help us get in, otherwise we would've been screwed. Please train your staff on the self serve IT capabilities and make it clearer how to use the code to check in.Colin D. | Online Move In

I booked a reservation weeks in advance only to be told the day of that there was a glitch in the system and a room wasn't actually reserved. My reservation mentioned a price of $84,95 for a 10' x 7' x 4' Locker but was told when I checked in that the cost was actually $114.95. I showed the email confirmation showing the size and price I was expected to get but it was not honored even with that proof. I had to get a smaller unit to be able to stay within my budget. My concern is what's the point to make a reservation if you don't get the price you expect to pay. The main bad part was that the uhaul mobile smartphone experience doesn't work. I tried to set up auto pay multiple times and it wouldn't let me so I had to pay each month manually. Also, when I got the moving van to check my stuff out, the mobile login didn't say I you were going to call the secondary contact right then and there, so that was annoying as I didn't have someone at that exact moment ready. The service I received in person was always great. Well-staffed and waiting times low. Everyone very patient, friendly and helpful. The facility felt very secure. Card replacement when I lost it was a breeze, when I expected it to be a lot more complicated. My only complaint is that over the years everything in my unit began to smell like mouse or rat pee. I was looking for a storage unit for several weeks. The website does not make clear what is available- the "Reserve" feature lets you reserve units that aren't available. The storage manager advised me to call in and speak to her to check what was available but whenever I called nobody would let me speak to her she is always "unavailable". Everyone that works here seems miserable, they sigh and roll their eyes when you try and ask for help. It wasn't clear that my lock would be in the locker I waited in line for nothing. By signing up online I couldn't add a storage unit to my existing contract, I now have two separate contracts. I called ahead while I was on my way to the facility to get started with whatever info would be needed to check in efficiently. I asked where to park to unload things and the staff member on the phone said to park in the loading dock. I told him that my movers were going to park there and start unloading the van. He said okay and told me he couldn't take any of my info regarding emergency contact/additional contacts over the phone. When I arrived, I had to wait in line for 45 minutes because there was only one employee. My movers unloaded the entire truck in the van. Then I was told my unit would be on the 4th floor so they had to drive up to the 4th floor and unload up there. I couldn't find it and asked for help because the map was very unclear. No one helped me initially. I had to go find someone else and they couldn't find my unit. When i found it, it had someone's name written on it so it was unclear if it was mine. Then my key card didn't work so I almost got locked in the elevator. The unit I had was the dimensions described but the 10 feet goes to the ceiling instead of wide, so it was not helpful at all and I couldn't fit enough in it because no one can stack things 10 feet safely. I ended up having to pay my moved for an extra 1,5 hours due to the lack of service and the employee telling me it was okay for the movers to unload things on the first floor, only to tell us it needed to be reloaded and unloaded again on the 4th floor. I wasted so much money and I'm VERY upset. There was no manager available to assist with my issue. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.Elise A. | Premières impressions
Annoying layout, my locker was far in the back and took forever to move the stuff Why are there no luggage carts to make moving multiple boxes fast?? Sliding doors close so fast it makes it hard to bring stuff in, annoying to swipe constantly. The dock was tricky on the day I moved out although it was fine on the move-in. The gate quickly shut between the time I pressed the "open" button and had hopped into the truck ready to back it up. The storage facility was great for money. The staff was kind and helpful with what was in their control. Cons There were no carts available to move our stuff because the staff said it was stolen.
