Getting access to the vehicle I reserved as a nightmare. First I booked for 7pm Friday evening and was dispatched to the Uhaul centre on Meridian in the NE. When I arrived, the centre was closed, and none of the vehicles I had been assigned were available for after-hours pickup. Had to call the Uhaul customer service for reassignment / rescheduling to Saturday at this location. When we arrived to pick up our scheduled vehicle, the previous customer was still out with it. We waited 30 minutes for the customer to return, and the dealer was doing all they could to get it back, but the customer was not returning his calls. I was very disappointed there was NO effort to give me any compensation for being inconvenienced not once but twice in this process. With this experience, I will likely never use Uhaul again!

This review is specific to the Centex Edgemont location in Calgary. Short version: STEER CLEAR OF THIS LOCATION—unless you want a migraine. So, firstly, I booked using the website, but there seemed to be a problem as they sent me a confirmation with the wrong time and location. So I got someone on the phone who assured me, the Centex location had everything I needed: 9' Van, moving pads, dolly. I showed up at the location, and the lady behind the counter had to go on the phone to consult with her manager, and this took an eternity. She finally gave me the phone, and the 'manager' had me answer questions which almost seemed like i was booking everything all over again. When I asked if they had the pads and the dolly, they said no, and that it's something that needs to be confirmed with a personal visit. This is weird because i've been renting from U-Haul for years and everytime i come for a pickup, everything i need is already packed in the truck. So...I had to go to a different location just to rent what i needed, which was another layer of paperwork. Before i headed out, the lady did a walk-around the vehicle to inspect for damage. It was somewhat cursory, but it wasn't my job to tell her what to look for. When I returned the vehicle, the 'manager' was there, and now he's inspecting every tiny detail, including checking if any bulbs blew out (headlights, tail lights, brake lights etc. Something that WASN'T inspected by the lady, and frankly, am I supposed to be responsible for a blown-out bulb? When I was telling the manager how disappointed i was at the way the whole retal process was handled, he actually started to argue with me, as if I were lying about all my past experiences with UHAUL- insisting I HAD to show up beforehand IN PERSON to check if they had other stuff like pads and such. That's ridiculous, because I've never had to do that. One more thing. When I pulled up to a gas pump in his station after returning the rental to fill it up, as a precaution, I walked up to him and asked him if it took premium, regular or diesel. He clearly said regular. As I finished filling it up with regular, he rushes out saying he wasn't sure—it was maybe diesel because the gas cap was yellow, despite the fact that it clearly said GASOLINE with no E58 additives or something like that. He still didn't believe me and made me feel responsible if the vehicle was damaged, DESPITE the fact that I asked him what to fill it up with. O.M.G!!!! This is the most RIDICULOUS U-haul rental place, Please, PLEASE, if you value your sanity—stay AWAY from Centex Edgemont.

We will NEVER rent a UHaul and pick up / drop off at this location ever again. It took us about an hour to pick up... it would be understandable IF there were other customers there but we were the ONLY ones there. The truck was there. We arrived at the scheduled time. The female working had no idea what she was doing so she had called the owner/manager who she was trying to get directions from and we ended up doing the “paper work” while in the phone with the owner/manager. Also, while talking to the owner/manager, I told him that our pick up and drop off should be changed to 11, as we had been there for nearly an hour and still didn’t look like we were leaving anytime soon. He said that he’s changed it on his end..I told him that i don’t see it on this end (we’ve at this point have been using his laptop to complete the pick up, as the female just turned it over to us as she had no clue). Finally we’re done. If we weren’t in such a time crunch to rent this truck, we would of left. NOW... drop off. Drop off was for 10am. We arrived to drop off the truck at 9:15am..ONCE again, we were faced with another female that didn’t know what to do AND again, we were the ONLY customers in the store. At first, she asked us to wait for the owner/manager to come in. We didn’t have time to wait. We were expecting someone at our house for 10am. So she decided to get the km reading, check gas tank, check for damages etc. Finally the owner/manager arrives, he has no clue, once again, it took over 30 mins to return the pick up. Also, it was a good thing I did a double check on the return check form, as the female marked off that there were “new fresh” damages. When I asked her what “new fresh” damages, she looked at me like she didn’t know what I was walking about and said there’s no damages. So she had to correct that too. To Sum this experience up... it takes less time to go to Costco on a weekend and do my shopping and fill up gas than it does to pick up and return a truck from this Edgemont location. Customer service at its worse. The owner/manager did not even apologize. Perhaps this is their norm. I can’t even imagine how long it would of taken if there were customers in there when we were in there... would of probably need to book vacation time from work....
