I had to drive a long ways with my cargo van rental. Due to the cab design, not a fault of U-haul, I am having some amount of pain because the seat to pedal distance was just shy of adequate. I am 5’9”. Otherwise it was fun to drive and fairly easy to parallel park. Aside from personal discomfort the store was immaculate and the staff was friendly and helpful. I returned my rental at night after hours after sundown.. there is an online check in process I did not expect. I was unable to have the website identify my location even though my location services were turned on. I was logged into my account. I could not therefore proceed to complete the check in. So I left the keys in the box. I did not understand why the return box had a slot for contracts. Whole thing seemed like too much after a very long day driving and moving furniture. I thought I would be just filling out an envelope. I understand the thinking behind all the requirements demanded, but it just didn’t work for me. I also did not enjoy being there in an essentially dark and isolated place trying to watch a training video to figure it all out.

U-haul uses a bait and switch pricing model that’s unethical if not illegal. I’m very disappointed. I was quoted a cost of $81.00 when I reserved a van (with full disclosure that I needed 175 miles), but I was then told the cost was $134.00 when I did my pick-up. It was too late to back out, which appears to be embedded in U-Haul’s fraud. That’s a 39.55% increase in cost. Nice business model U-Gouge! Additionally, I like the way my quoted price disappeared from my account on pick-up day.

Customer service at this location sucked. With a scheduled appointment time, I feel that my pickup should be better prepared. At 7am she was not personable, gave short answers, made me fetch my own vehicle from the far back fleet parking area and didn't make me feel welcome. Plus I rented a 26' truck to drive over 300 miles. I was given the truck with 3/8 tank of fuel. Its WAY to hard to gauge how much to refuel during the trip to avoid returning it with more fuel than that. Of course I had 5/8 tank left which equates to $30 of fuel that wasn't needed. For being a Uhaul facility, not just a dealer, experience was horrible!

If I hadn’t called the Sterling pick up location to notify them that pick up would be late, we wouldn’t have known that the reserved truck was not on site! UHAUL, however, made it VERY easy and found a truck for us at the Fredericksburg location which was on our travel route.

Katherine assisted us with our rental. She was very helpful and patient. She suggested other rental supplies to assist us with our move. My husband did not feel the supplies were necessary. But I returned the next morning and purchased the suggested supplies, wrapping tape and mattress covers. We moved in the rain and the extra supplies helped. We will refer all friends and family to Uhaul, especially the local store with Katherine and Kareem. Thank you so much. Above Excellence!

The storage facility has only one entry making it a LONG way to carry furniture that will not fit on the small carts. It’s clean and well lighted. Nice facility overall.

Your manager straight up lied to me, and then acted as if I was in the wrong. I called a number of UHaul dealers Friday morning, hoping to get a last minute 10 foot truck. No one close to me had one, but one dealer made the reservation on line with THIS dealer (off of 17 and International Dr) for a 10' truck and recommended I call to confirm. I called immediately (you can check the phone logs for Friday am - the call came from 202-781-0595) and spoke with Reyna (the GM) who assured me that not only could I get a 10' truck, but I could also have it for the full day. When I arrived Saturday morning, Reyna denied ever speaking to me (straight up LIE - check the phone records, bc I can pull the records from my work to verify) AND she said I could only have the 10' truck from 7-11... again, she lied on Friday to get the sale. I took a van, which was cheaper and just barely fit all the stuff in it, but will NOT do business with this location again bc of Ms. Portillo and her lack of integrity. Additionally, I will be telling others about this transaction, and steering them to OTHER UHaul locations in the area bc of Ms. Portillo's lack go honesty. She also wanted me to sign the vehicle inspection form WITHOUT doing a walk around inspection with me - I went out and looked at the truck and found a damaged right rear bumper, which I am SURE she would have charged me for if I had not noted it. Good trucks - lousy employees. Easy to fix, from a management standpoint. R/ Pete Gill

This review is not for this location. This review is for the first location I was assigned to Cross Roads Auto Repair 5700 Salem Run Blvd Suite 100 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. This location I was assigned to was horrible. The gentleman called Thursday morning saying that I could not come Friday when I had reserved the truck Because he wasn’t going to open until 8:30 even though previously he said his shop opened at 7. We then had a pre arranged time for me to come in since he “would be there all day” and I called to confirm the time of 12:30-1 two times with him and he still never showed up at the facility. The gentleman at the shop was rude and just kept calling the original guy. I waited an hour and called him back and he kept lying and saying he was “on his way. “ I then was transferred by customer service to another facility 20 min out of my way but they were willing to accommodate my order and had a truck waiting when I arrived. Thankfully I was transferred to Uhaul Moving and Storage on 1101 international parkway. At that facility I had told them what happened and they thought it was ridiculous how the first facility treated me as a customer. It shouldn’t be that hard to have decent customer service. Stay clear of Cross Roads Auto Repair for a UHAUL reservation. The man there is rude and could care less. I will be speaking with cooperate today.

We have recently rented a 17foot truck and the mileage’s on the car was different from what it was on the paper and none checked it for us and they thought we driver over 100milea and we all did is 30.... not a good experience
