I had a horrible experience with the reservation system U-Haul uses. I reserved my truck a month in advanced at a location in Ottawa. When I checked on my reservation on the website two days before, I found U-HAUL had changed my preferred pick up location to a place 30 minutes outside of Ottawa without notifying me. When I called the next day, my pick up location had been changed again to another location which was also 30 minutes outside the city. The representative I spoke with changed it to a location in town, but didn't advise me the time was changed from my requested 8am to 12pm. I received the confirmation email the day before the move and had to call in again as I had already reserved the elevator in my building for 9am, so a 12pm pick up time would not work. And the last minute notice meant I couldn't change my elevator reservation. The representative advised me the only truck available for the time I needed was again 30 minutes outside Ottawa. I was forced to reserve it, only to receive a call a couple hours later advising me that truck was not available and would only be available a few days later. I had to call in to the reservation line again and try to get another truck for the time I needed. The truck they reserved was available in town and had been available the whole time. It is ridiculous that I had to jump through hoops and deal with all this stress during my move when there was a truck available the whole time nearby that should have been offered initially. This was the worst experience I have had renting a vehicle. In this day and age, you should be able to reserve a truck at a specific day and time and location and be guaranteed it especially when you book a month ahead of time. If rental car locations can do this, U-Haul should be able to do this as well. To top it off, every time I had to call in to U-HAUL, the French and English queues were mixed up so I was constantly getting a French agent when I do not speak French and they struggled to understand me. I will never use U-HAUL again. And I am advising all my friends and relatives to never use them either. Get your shit together U-Haul. You are the worst.

I dropped off the trailer 3 hours after picking it up using U-haul's after hours drop service. Keep in mind this is the location that U-Haul sent me via email. Since it is a one way rental, you get a minimum of 2 days to use the trailer, I didn't need it that long since I was moving 2 hours away. The following day I still hadn't received an email receipt. Since it was a dealer and not a corporate store, no worries I thought, they'd get to it at some point. I get a phone call from someone saying she is from U-Haul and that I need to drop off the trailer elsewhere. I told her that I had already dropped it off and that I wasn't going to pick it back up. It took another 2 days and a phone call to U-haul's customer care to get that email showing that he received the trailer. The problem is, I was in the hook for the trailer if something had happened while it was still rented out to me. tl;dr dropped it off where they said. Took 3 days to receive it. Dealer wasn't doing their job.

The self check-out system wasn't working when I came to pick up the rental. I had to wait...then when it finally worked, I still had to wait in line to grab the keys. Not sure the self check-out was any faster.

They told me the truck was at 1/4 tank and did paperwork before entering the truck and realized that the truck was not exactly 1/4 it was less so I brought it back the same line of fuel gage and now they sending me a bill for fuel that is not right they should show u exactly what it says in truck before signing papers. Not cool

There is no courtesy in dealing with clients. Neither went out to show the van nor checked it back when I returned the keys to ensure that all is OK. The interaction was very indifferent and unexpected of a service oriented center as this. It can be 100% improved if the service rep has some empathy and is serious to help the client whole-heartedly.

Not much. Truck was in excellent shape. No problems encountered in either pick up or drop off locations or with truck. Truck operated in good fashion and actually a comfortable ride for such a large vehicle

Very frustrating that mileage estimates are not in metric and everything is imperial, Staff at my location pick up was very good and very efficient. Much better than other Uhaul locations that I have been to in Ottawa

I was not advised that the rental fees will be charged on my credit card, I was told that the Credit Card information was only needed to process the rental. Upon confirming the return of the truck I received a message that an employee will contact me within 24 hours to discuss the payment options. However, I was not given any options and the amount was taken out of my Credit Card automatically. I suggest that this is made clear to clients, and to be given the option to pay with their preferred method, whether its by Credit Card or Debit. Thank you for accepting my feedback.
