• Have a functional combination lock on the back sliding door of your vehicle that doesn't need to be snipped off because it can't be opened. Luckily I checked this before I left MS Motors or I would have had to drive back. They also didn't give the code when I originally signed out the vehicle. • Give a paper copy of the contract to the customer and go over the mileage and the amount of gas that is in the vehicle. (The amount of gas on the emailed receipt was higher than what was actually in the moving van. I didn't have time to check my email since I finally drove off with the moving van 1 hour after the scheduled pickup time and almost missed my ferry reservation because of the delay.) • When problems arise, stay with your customer until the problems are fixed rather than handing it off to the official U-Haul people down the street (and where I was originally supposed to get the vehicle - I booked the moving van 6 weeks prior to pickup and they changed the location to MS Motors about 24 hours before pickup.) • Have moving pads available on-site (not sending me to the official U-Haul place down the street to get them myself). • There was a general lack of information given to the customer. I know this since I overheard conversations with customers at the official U-Haul business down the street while waiting in line to pick up the furniture pads. The explanations given the staff there were much more detailed and thorough.
