When I rented this unit, I was told it was on the ground floor, it was not. There was NEVER ELECTRICITY/lighting in my unit, I told the manager when I moved in, 1 1/2 years later, never had a light. there were termite droppings all over my boxes. Several times the elevator was not working properly.Often no one in the office or answering the phone.I do not recommend this storage facility.

There was little space to park a truck to move equipment because some people we not moving things in and out of storage and were taking up space in the lot that could have been used by others. Not having lights in the units is a huge inconvenience.

La bodega que me habían asignada estaba cerrada, llame como 4 veces para que pudieran atender mi llamada, me dejaron esperando como 10min., esperé más de 30min para que llegara alguien a atenderme, al lugar para abrir esa bodega asignada, y estaba sucia y rota, me asignaron otra. I flew into Santa Barbara from Portland to help move my daughter from her college house and needed a storage unit on 6/19. I had made the reservation over 1 1/2 months ago plus called 2 or 3 times to confirm my reservation over time. Upon my check in on 6/19, the associate let me know that for some reason there was a lock on the unit that I was to rent which he was not sure why. He said that he would personally drive down to the unit himself and cut off the lock if need be because the unit was empty. He called me from the facility to let me know that unfortunately he will not be able to rent this unit to me this day because the previous renter was coming over the next day 6/20, to come get their lock and supposedly did not want it cut off. I immediately asked the associate then what is he going to do for me. I just paid $1000 for flights and hotels to come here and I need a unit this day cause my daughters lease was up. He told me that there was no more units available unfortunately too which I was beyond furious. He then said he would talk to the manager at the facility. Somehow over a little bit of time, found another available unit which was great and all but now we were almost 2hrs behind schedule in our move. He was able to give me a really great deal on the unit which was super nice but not sure how something like this can occur. Before he found me that unit, I really had no idea what I was going to do with my daughters belongings. I was sooooooo. upset!!!!! It did work out in the end but because of the long delay, we didn't get done moving til very late in the evening. The associate was very friendly did everything that he could do to help out the situation. This was no reflection on him. It was just very frustrating to come all this way to be told sorry the unit we reserved for you is now not available plus we don't have anything else available.

I had someone break into our unit and we had the cut lock, the new lock put on, proof of cutting the lock with a lock cutter. They sent this weird agent detective who cane snooping around are house calling him self an attorney, talking to neighbors etc. he then interviewed me saying I am lying and treated me so bad that I had multiple panic attacks. I already suffer from PTSD, Anxiety and Depression. He would harass me on the phone on weekends etc. it was a third party U-Haul contracted. All of a sudden they told me I committed fraud and got nothing reimbursed from all the stolen goods. I lost a lot of valuables including sentimental Christmas decorations collected 30+ years. The whole case was handled horribly. I requested another agent, a woman and was denied so. I had no rights yet I was the victim. I will never recommend Uhaul to anyone as a matter a fact I will tell people my story and how awful I was treated. On top of it I just found out that I won't be able to ever rent from Uhaul again due to committing fraud???? Yet the kept renting to me for another 3 years, but I can't rent a truck? Not that I ever want to anyways. I rented from Uhaul for over 7 years and they can care less about their customer yet the charge a lot of money.

i give four stars cuz everything and everyone has room for improvement. I don't think that anyone or anything is five star cuz we should always learn something new everyday otherwise besides that point there was excellent for me.

The office staff was very helpful. Things were easy to coordinate, and the paperwork & receipts were printed out very quickly. We did ask for a demonstration of how to use the elevator to move our things to a 2nd floor storage unit. Once we saw it demonstrated, there were no problems. We found lots of resources through MeatHead Movers. I called them on a Sunday, and they were quick to schedule 2 student movers to help us move things from a UHaul truck to the storage unit. We loved the free 30 day Storage Unit that came with one way UHaul Truck purchases. So UHaul Truck Rentals (154 Suburban Road, San Luis Ibispo, CA) & the UHaul Storage Place (4101 State Street, Santa Barbara, CA) were both easily coordinated by calling the UHaul Contact Center and then the MeatHead Movers Contact Center-made everything work supremely well. We are retired seniors and could not have done this without all their efficient help. One phone call from home coordinated the reservations for both the truck and the storage rentals. We appreciate all the help we received from these companies. You are conveniently located and easy to work with (Mapquest helped too). We thank you for everything. Staff member Randa Boonstra was kind enough to put me on a waiting list for the size of unit I needed, and she called me soon after that, when one became available. She was also very courteous and considerate when I came to view and sign up for the unit. Previously I had also spoken with 2 other staff members there, but neither offered to put me on a waiting list. I was really desperate to transfer my storage to your facility due to your excellent prices for the Santa Barbara area, compared to the high price I'm paying at a very comparable Public Storage facility in the same area. This move was such a relief!

With 2 UHaul place next to each other and this one the least obvious it must be common for people, like me, to go to the wrong one and have to figure out how to get to the right on. It's not easy. There is no place to turn around once on the long driveway. It should just be a storage place.

The cargo elevator was very finicky and we were unable to use it for move-in. Customer service staff was helpful to get it opened for us, but it only worked the one time. I was only able to move in 1/3 of my items

WOW! Really bad experience! The mobile check in was very difficult and we were waiting for approval and phone call verifications which weren't going through. I asked the attendant for help multiple times and only after 30 mins did he help us get it done on his end. I just don't understand why he couldn't help us the first time, we were really struggling and having a hard time and if he had the ability, he should have provided good customer service and spoken up and helped. I would not rent a van from this location again, and uhaul needs to do a better job of communicating to the customer what they should bring PRIOR to arrival and that they need to notify friends for ID phone calls. We got it done but WOW was that an annoying experience!

I was told I could pick up my truck at 8am using the online portal to get my keys. But the people working at this location messed up and didn't put my keys in a lock box. So I had to wait for someone to come into the office 40 minutes after we were supposed to get the truck.

The only thing I didn't appreciate or expected was the Uhaul truck I rented barley had any gas for me to even move it out the lot when I went to pick it up from Santa Barbara. So I think it would be much appreciated if thats addressed, because the last thing you want to see when you rent a car is no/low on gas depending.

It was so easy to check out and return the vehicle. I did have some issues with the uhaul website when trying to return the vehicle - my iPhone camera would not work when I selected "add photos" for the mileage and gas so I was unable to use that portion. Other than that, the woman who I checked out the vehicle was friendly and informative.

Rats destroyed half of my personal affects. Equipment I rented was not available when arriving. Had to use an appliance dolly instead of a moving dolly which was not helpful. Furniture pads not on vehicle Dolly not on vehicle. Iwas hounded by David seceral Phone calls ge made to me about bringing Furniture pads back when I was told they were purchased by another staff on day of rental who is new and dis not know. I am very upset about the lack of professionalism and accuracy. David wants me to return the furniture pads after I was told they were purchased and no need to return them. I will never recommend this company. I will adress any unauthorized charges with American Express for fraudulent billing that I did not approve.

I ordered a 17 foot truck the week prior and when I arrived they said they only had a 15 ft. one. I had done a pre checkin on the computer but they did not have all the info and had tot start all over with the application. my trip involved 10 miles per the odometer and yet they charged for 3 gallons of gas for a total of over 17.00.

I had paid approximately $12 over than was needed for gas by filling the tank of the truck. I was told I could receive a refund of the overage - I called several times and left messages for the manager, but my call was never returned. I never received the refund I should have. I will not use this location again.

I had a great experience renting from this location. The customer service is incredible, the rental was perfect, and just a really nice overall experience. I forget the gentleman's name who checked me into the vehicle, but he was very helpful, professional, and got me going quickly. When I returned the vehicle, it was Sandra who I dropped it off to. She was incredibly helpful, friendly, and professional as well. You have a great team over there. I rented the vehicle for a work project we are doing, and we will need to do it a few more times over the next year. We will definitely be coming back to this location. Merci.

Location is hard to find (google maps sends to wrong place). There is no parking, the vans are parked in a narrow dead-end driveway, and it is not possible to make a u-turn. I had to go though mud to be able in inspect the van.

That whole new thing of gettin an emergency contact on the phone before the renter is allowed to rent is stupid. And if that is the new rule it needs to be advertised better so that it doesn't waste time upon truck pick up

This review is a bit tricky to write, so I'm just going to put it all out there: Reservation/Pick-Up: U-Haul exceeded my expectations by far with how easy and convenient this process was. I was able to get a one-way moving truck with a car transport with absolutely NO hassle. U-Haul was communicative, professional, and friendly, and it was very enjoyable to rent a truck. The Trip: the truck and car transport were so well-maintained; we were grateful for the safe trip. We did notice that the mechanic who tied down our car on the transport - didn't tighten the front wheels down as efficiently; the car did seem to shift a tiny bit. It is possible that this was due to the mountainous driving through CO, but we had to pull over and redo the straps to really make sure the car was secure. It didn't move the littlest bit for the rest of our LONG journey (almost 19hrs of driving total). Storage: at first, my partner and I were delighted and grateful to receive the deal from U-Haul of the one month of FREE storage upon arrival to our destination. We thought that it was extremely convenient and smart. I have to say, though, is where the U-Haul experience started to put a less than positive experience for us. When we received the address for the storage unit that U-Haul had picked for us... the storage unit was 45 mins away from the city we were staying in. We didn't understand why there wasn't a storage unit closer to where we were actually staying. I recognize that while this isn't a HUGE deal, what is - is that we weren't told that the first month of free storage had restrictions. The contacts we had at our storage facility tried to charge us upon arrival. I told them that we were gifted with the first month for FREE. They told me that the first month was for free, but they just needed to have my card on file. I looked at my bank statement, and they charged me just over $411 for the second month of storage. So... the first month isn't free. They charge you for the first month, and then the second month is free. Very sneaky and pretty NOT OK. Not to mention the fact that $400 for storage is almost 2-3 X the price of other storage facilities. On top of this - they asked me to buy a lock from them for our unit. I told them I had my own lock - they said this was fine. We left and came back, and they had put an EXTRA lock on my unit. There was nobody in the office, and I had no access to my own unit. I had to wait for someone to show up on-site on a Monday afternoon and have them unlock their lock just so I could get into my storage unit. When I asked them why they put the lock on there - they told me it was for my safety because my own lock wasn't as good as theirs. They told me they were going to continue to place extra locks on my unit "for my safety" until/unless I purchased one of their disk locks. THAT is insane. The facility has security cameras on-site + you cannot get into the facility unless you have a storage fob. Overall: U-Haul was pretty impressive until it came to storage... they're extremely helpful, but I cannot get around the sneakiness.

I booked the moving van online and the experience was quite easy and straight forward. We arrived at the scheduled pickup time. We checked in and drove off in about 10 minutes. The van was easy to drive, had access to load items through the side and back doors. Great truck for small moves. The whole experience was a 10. David was very nice and took great care to make sure we understood everything. The drop off only took 5 minutes.

They honestly make move in, going in and out of unit if need to etc really easy and the staff are always smiling and helpful. The unit was clean and so easily accessible. Every time I was there, it took a long time for customer service. On the plus side, they give every customer full attention, on the negative side, they are very slow and inefficient. Seems if they can process 1 customer every 20 minutes they are blazing fast. Also, rental ended with some upcharge which I haven't figured out.

I had a reservation set up for 10/22 at 5:30 at Bear Automotive for a mobile pick up & when I arrived the app stated that it wasn't available for mobile pick up & to return the next morning at 8am . So I had to cancel my reservation & figure out another one that I could rent at the last minute . My reservation #29797999 was not guaranteed towards the end & it was pretty frustrating.

The girl behind the counter was awesome I would highly recommend her to assistance to anybody that’s why I’m giving a high rating U-Haul for the most part being a corporate scenario is a bunch of BS I reserve the trailer three days before my trip drove 500 miles to get it when I got there there was no trailers available had to wait for hours to get one Forcing me to drive until three in the morning to get home to get to work the next day at eight not a good experience

Driveways are too narrow and hard for multiple people to access units. Elevator in our area was not well maintained. We signed out; had units checked, and STILL got a bill after our account had been closed.

Everything is great, as it is an older facility it doesn't have an elevator, only a cargo elevator which is less convenient. However the staff was very polite and helpful and I had no major issues with my move-in.

All though Uhaul storage units are very expensive, the female employees are very kind, compassionate and helpful. The bottom units are much easier to deal with as the elevator can be a hassle.

The staff at this U-haul facility were extremely helpful and accommodating! I would give more than 5 Stars if I could!

Charged me the first month when they said they'd give it to me free and said they weren't going to fix it. The manager did not communicate with her staff properly and accused me of lying. Incompetent.

Competent friendly staff. Good storage space. The lift in this building is very slow and I had to borrow a cart from another building since I could not find one anywhere in the building.

Front line staff was kind & attempted to help, management was consistently uncaring & unhelpful. Consistent termite & rodent droppings issue that was never resolved in the 3 years we rented there.
