I've been looking on "how to pack ..." websites, and several say pack books close but not tight, as this will cause books to bend. What's the difference between close & tight? Do you know? Thanks for the help.
Hi, Molly! Books should not be crammed as tightly as possible because it could cause pages and covers to get damaged. It is better to pack books closely together but not so close that they smash into one another. A little bit of space between books will prevent damage. Also, it helps to pack alike books together, i.e. put heavy, tougher books at the bottom of the box and then put fragile, paperback books on top of those. I hope that is helpful!
Most of my books are large, hardback books, but different sizes & widths. If I pack large & smaller books together, doesn't that create great gaps? Can I add a few small & paperback books to fill in gaps, as long as it doesn't go over 65 pounds? I have the small size boxes to use.

Of course, if you buy more book boxes than you end up needing, you can always return them to a U-Haul center (as long as they're unused and you have your receipt).
