At another U-Haul site, the vehicle I had reserved was not physically not available.

The first truck's check engine light was on and had to be exchanged. Couldn't get into the return location because it was a garage with no parking available. Had to travel 15-20 miles to return and then had to pay for the extra gas it took to get there.

I researched all facilities in the local area and A1 storage had unbeatable prices. Not only were the storage units in a great location but they were well maintained and clean. The ladies at A1 storage are so incredibly helpful and friendly. I highly recommend doing business with them!

I highly recommend A-1 Self Storage! The units are immaculate. The office staff are amazing. We rented a unit to store our student's college dorm items and vehicle for the summer. We inadvertently rented a unit which was too small… and within an hour they had us switched to a larger unit. Additionally, their attention to detail and true concern for security is unmatched. When we moved out, I was waiting to call to let them know we were out of the unit… but literally within one hour of us removing the lock and emptying the unit I received a concerned phone call. They noticed the lock was gone and unit empty and wanted to make sure we were aware. Super happy and will absolutely be renting from them again next summer!

I had a reservation at Chilhowie, 2 trucks, I said any size, were to be back at 5pm Friday. They never showed up, I had everything scheduled, movers etc. Frantic called Ftiday night numerous times told 1 would be in Abingdon Saturday morning. Clerk said don't want you to drive all that if they don't show up? Uhaul needs a better system. Will not recommend uhaul.

This location was the complete opposite of the pickup location. The young lady was very fro and helpful.

Be sure to keep Jessica as your employee; she puts the customer first and gets you on the road as well as anyone I've ever experienced - politely and cheerfully, too.

I was told since they was closed on Thursday n Friday I had to pick up the uhaul on Wednesday n return it on Saturday then on my paperwork they said turn it in on Friday I think it’s unfair I was charged after being told this by the lady in abingdon va she said I would not be charged for thanksgiving now they took 94 dollars out of my account and to beat they it was taken back on Friday evening at 830 no I would not recommend uhaul to anyone for simple fact I feel I was done wrong

My pick up location was a self- storage facility. The receptionist was a very nice older lady, but did not have a lot of knowledge about the truck.

Equipment was using too much gas & needed transmission work I think. Lower cost per mile $.79 mile plus gas is a price too high. Moved a sofa in 16 miles total cost was $52 plus $10 gas $62 for a sofa only 16 miles total. Too high per mile plus gas. A1 is great but UHaul milage is just too high with gas hog trucks. The small 1 studio truck. Not well serviced at 7 miles to the gallon with very light load. Service equipment lower prices per mile.

Overall a great facility. There were a bunch of spider webs on my things when I came to pick them up. Not sure if there is a way to prevent this for other renters. Would use this facility again!

And have recommended to two friends, who are currently using it. It's a nice option for the Abingdon and Bristol area. Limited hours on weekends makes planning a bit tricky, but a dropbox option for keys and notes. Usually quick response to phone calls or messages.

Well let me say that I was just happy to be able to get the truck without a reservation even though expressed I only needed 10ft truck a because I only had 5 large items to move and asked if I could get the $19,99 rate because my total move was only 31 miles round trip and only had the truck just over 4 hrs but still had to pay the $29,99 or $39,99 rate and I checked the gas hand before leaving the lot and when returned the truck I was charged a $10&odd cent for fuel charge I put gas back in the truck and the gas hand was slightly more than I when I got it so I questioned that and asked why that the total fee of $87,4 and was told because it had slightly less gas than when I bought it back I told the rep.that wasn't so and wish I had her physical look at the gas hand before I left in the truck because it was back in the same place after me putting gas in it off interstate nextdoor to them but was told again it was slightly less when my brother and myself know better because we both said well least it has the same amount of not slightly more but definitely not less and the fact I couldn't get a discount on the larger truck I didn't need I was ok with that but then to beat me out of extra fee for fuel as high as fuel is really ticked me off to be honest because my brother said had I not even put fuel in there because u couldn't really see that the gas hand had moved at all that had I not put the fuel in there and said I did she would have charged me the same price and have to agree that being said I would only use that same U-Haul facility or recommend it if they were the only game in town or may even put it off for another day until I could get what I need to begin with but lesson learned for sure..

The truck parking area is cramped for bigger trucks, so please have available trucks backed in and ready to pull staight out. We had difficulty backing out such a large truck from a small area - especially since we had not drive a truck that large before.

This whole experience was a bust! Though the young lady working here was super sweet, the guy I spoke with about the rental messed everything up... overbooked the 15' truck, booked me at the wrong location and I'll never book U-Haul again!

It was 3 years ago that after a bundle of nightmare's of why I was on they doorstep hoping to save the content's from my 2br. apt. in Lebanon looking for a 10x10 & reaching out this far not knowing I was about to be Respectfully Welcomed & Assisted by answering all my first time experience questions and to go along with a Awesome staff at A1 the units are well kept in good maintenance, the grounds kept very clean, Security access Gate was a plus assurance and upon my departure on 04/04/22. I left with a smile. T.y. A1 Self-Storage in Abingdon, VA.

Over all decent place to store your belongings, but it appears a mouse was in the building and chewed on my belongings a little. However the staff was very helpful and pleasant.

Was closed when I arrived. However a cleaning person was doing the windows… She even called the manager to confirm drop off directions! Simple easy and I was very impressed with the online drop off! U-Haul has it going on!!!

It was after hours when I dropped off the uHaul. We walked the entire area looking for the drop box for the keys but there wasn't one. I called the toll-free number that was in my text message and the man I talked with told me to leave the key over the driver's side visor. I asked about my liability and he stated he could already see that I had done the check-in for the return so I was ok. This felt very insecure since the grounds of the storage facility were open to anyone driving by. I would not use this location again nor do I recommend it to anyone else until they can get a drop box installed for the truck keys.

A-1's climate-controlled facility is first-rate. It is secure, clean, well lit and just the right humidity. Billing was automatic and easy and the staff is great. I would definitely use this facility again.

Suggest including a reminder to customers to verify return location and directions by personal contact prior to dropping a return. GPS systems still inadequate in rural locations.

Facility is very clean and secure. Always very friendly staff. We had to move in very quickly due to COVID and my daughter leaving college. We stored items there in the past but the staff went above and beyond to help us get a space and access a unit within a short window. The school gave us very little notice of moving out and only a couple of hours to move out. We live over 3 hours away and they helped us make it happen. Merci.

Type of oily residue on the floor that made it slightly slick. I had no trouble unloading or loading, was a colorless slippery substance but not hazardous.
