The camera function in the app is extremely buggy on Android. It took dozens of presses on the camera button to get it to take a picture, and I was never able to successfully get one to take for the odometer and fuel gauge, so had to call to manually end my truck returnChris D.

Same with the pick up location, this was not the location I chose during my reservation. It is 22 miles away which is too far away from my place. The personnel was helpful and I informed him about the truck that was dirty when I got it and he acknowledged it. I've been renting in U haul I moved and this was the first time that they changed the location for pick up and drop off which were not convenient but I have no choice coz I needed it. I was not able to get through to the customer service via chat, and the customer service call in told me that my rental had been canceled. Originally we made a reservation for a location in the area, we then decided to contact uhaul again to request a change in the pickup time (earlier time and same day instead), we contacted customer service, they assisted us and were very helpful (2 separate people). Spoke with representative(s) and one of them was unable to make change so we were transferred to the 2nd representative. The 2nd rep input the change for the reservation (24 hour reserve) and informed us we were able to head to the location for pick-up. When we arrived at the location on 23rd St in Richmond, the customer service rudely told us if we were to rent the requested truck from their location we would have to return the truck no later than 7am due to other reservations already scheduled AND if we did not return on time, we would be charged a $200 late fee. At this point we told the customer service rep in Richmond CA that we just spoke with customer service and were told a truck would be reserved. After the rude service, we decided to call yet a third time to see how it was possible to reserve a truck for our move. My husband and I each called customer service again (at this point, we've spoken to approximately 6 different uhaul customer service representatives total). I was able to speak to someone who went absolutely ABOVE AND BEYOND and took her time searching for a local location that had the truck we requested. FINALLY we were able to reserve the truck which we picked up from Alameda Ca. We arrived at the location and logged into the website to "pick up truck", customer service called because we had not officially picked up the keys due to a delay in the sign-in process which requested 2 alternate contacts. Spoke to rep, she informed us that she needed to call the contacts listed and then we would be able to get the code to unlock the lockbox for the keys. The location of the u-haul pickup was well lit. Directions for the 24-hour pickup was a little challenging. The pickup process took approximately 30 minutes, which is quite long in my opinion if you're picking up a vehicle and it's available 24 hours, which means you could arrange for pick-up any time of the day. The process is a little lengthy, the information should be available online to fill out prior. After submitting all info and inputting emergency contacts, (which you can't even get access to the keys of your vehicle, without a representative speaking to your emergency contacts first, if you choose alternate contacts as your verification). When returning the vehicle, you have to take photos of the truck, odometer/gas gauge, and the cab, so in our case, we returned the truck at around 10pm, and had to follow directions step by step. Self service definitely is a longer process than dealing with a customer service representative directly. Overall experience was frustrating, but the outcome did result in several u-haul employees trying their very best to assist us. Lesson of the story, ALWAYS ALWAYS reserve when renting u-haul, in which we did, but we were promised a truck that was only available for a few hours. Our original reservation was basically cancelled when we attempted to change it to an earlier pickup time, big mistake, because we then lost our original reservation and had to request additional assistance just to get a truck.Nneka H.

Lynne & Lonnie at Allsafe Storage were amazing! They were very helpful and gave us insight how to navigate thru the automated u-haul process to rent vehicles after hours. That process put together by corporate is the absolute worst! The customer service 800 number for Uhaul is a disaster! Left on death hold for hours, was transferred several times and in the end nothing gets resolved?? Not only is the uhaul app broken & a waste of time, it lacks any clear direction where to pick up ur keys and it doesn't detect gps locations properly which prevents customer from finishing the checkout and approval process. In all it took 3 hrs to figure things out after being on hold for over an hour with one U-Haul rep and then another hour after being transferred. There was no clear reservation or confirmation number in any of the e-mail correspondence and I received a confirmation that my truck was reserved at another u-hail location on San Leandro blvd when I had already confirmed with Lonnie from Allsafe storage. U-hauls poor development of the process and lack of direction on making that process user-friendly should not reflect badly on the management at Allsafe as they were the only reason I gave my experience an excellent rating. Everything else about u-haul's process is proof they have no idea how or what they are doin when it comes to utilizing technology to make the process easier and more convenient for the customer!Pete A.
