Uhaul is this guys side hustle. He didn’t know how to work the system or seem to have access to our express check in that we took the time to do in advance.

The trailer was rented with a tire that had steel belts exposed and, dry rotted. The roadside assistance that was required was less than an ideal situation. Heaven forbid you ever have to call uhaul roadside assistance as I was on hold for over an hour before anyone picked up. Another failure is the online roadside portal said an agent would be in contact in 2mins and that never happened. I seriously had to call and sit on hold... just imagine being at highway speed and having a tire blowout, this could kill a person or a family. If one survived they could be left sitting on the side of the highway for hours just hoping someone would help. My only saving grace was my father notice the tire before I had departed...My advice it to inspect any trailer you plan on renting very closely as uhaul does not ensure safety prior to dispatch. Ensure your trailers have safe tires and overall mechanical systems such as suspension and wheel bearings via a detailed and required inspection process every time a rental in completed. This process should require detailed points of inspection including photo documentation using tread gauges measuring at three points across the tire. There should also be an establish service interval that is fully disclosed to the customer. You should also give notice of the tire date codes to the customer proving that no tire is over its suggested service life. This information should be a continuous record and could be used to market the potential quality of uhaul rentals. Right now there is no of that happening otherwise I would have never had such an experience!

Was told the gas level was at 1/4 tank but in fact it was right above E. Put $15 in the tank and drove it about 15 miles total. Returned the truck with over 1/4 tank. Returned it at night so didn't say anything about it. I did take a picture of the gas level and mileage when I got the truck though but had already drove it the quarter mile to new house so again didn't say anything about it. Just need to check actual fuel levels before renting.

We arrived a few minutes early on a Sunday morning, but the gentleman let us in and processed our vehicle in short order ahead of an approaching storm. He was personable and helpful and obviously experienced at handling U-Haul rentals. Overall, it's what I would expect from a well-run Midwestern business.
