Tracey NMy husband and I rented a 10 foot U-Haul to help our son and his family move to Texas about 3 weeks ago. Cody had reserved a 20 foot U-Haul to use for moving from Denver to Texas but when he went to pick it up there was only a 15 foot available for him. Since everything wouldn't fit in the 15 foot U-haul my husband and I had to pay to rent a 10 foot Uhaul to fit the rest of Cody's belongings. We left the house in Denver Friday morning and the 15 foot U-Haul broke down just two blocks away. After waiting for a call back from Roadside Assistance and then for the repair truck to come to fix the belt which had broken on the 15 foot U-Haul we attempted to leave again. Then the 10 foot U-Haul truck that we had rented had no power and would barely move. Now we had to wait again for the repair man to come back to check out the 10 foot U-Haul. We finally got on the road around 2 PM that afternoon. But about an hour later we broke down again south of Denver on interstate 70. The belt on the 15 foot U-Haul broke again. We were stranded on a busy interstate on the shoulder of the road waiting for a callback from roadside assistance again. This was quite scary as traffic was speeding by us at 70 to 80 mph not even slowing down to go by us and we worried that someone would not be paying attention and wander over on the shoulder just enough to run into us. This happened at 3 PM in the afternoon and we didn't get back on the road again until around 9:00 that evening. The repair guy that fixed the belt on the 15 foot U-Haul also checked out the engine on the 10 foot U-Haul at that time and did advise us that the 10 foot U-Haul should not be driven and should be towed. U-Haul did arrange for a motel room for us in the next town and said they would work on finding us another truck as a replacement and they would let us know the next morning. It was 1:00 in the afternoon the next day before they finally notified us that they would have a truck waiting for us in the next town. We went where we were told there would be a truck but they had none available there so we had no option but to keep on going. We got as far as Amarillo Texas when the belt on the 15 foot U-Haul broke again for the 3rd time. This was at 7:30 pm on the second day of the attempted move. We were stranded in Amarillo from 7:30 Saturday evening until 5:00 Sunday afternoon while waiting for a repairman to finish working on the truck. The temperature was over 100 degrees. We spent twice as much time sitting in parking lots waiting for Roadside Assistance to call back or for a repair man to come work on the U-Haul's than we did on actually driving the 12 hours it would've taken us had we been able to complete the move on the first day. Being stranded in the heat just waiting is very hard especially with a seven-year-old and a 10-year-old child. We had so much work ahead of us to do and Cody only had those three days to move and unpack in his house in Texas before he had to be back to work on Monday. We did not get to our destination in Justin Texas until after 10 PM Sunday night. Since it was so late and we wouldn't be able to unpack beds and set them up we had to get another motel room for that night. Also, my husband had to take an extra two days off work to help get things unpacked and help get the house set up and beds put together. Cody had to pay for three extra days of boarding his dogs in a kennel in Texas until we got there to pick them up. We had to pay for the second and third nights in a motel and all the meals for the two extra days it took us to move. We planned on a 12 hour drive on Friday to get from Denver to Justin Texas and it took us three days to get there because both Uhaul's kept breaking down. It was just so frustrating! We thought we would have two days there to help the family get moved in and settled and nothing worked out due to the issues with the U-Haul's. I am posting here because I sent an email to customer service at Uhaul and also to the CEO but haven't received a response at all from either.

DAVID BWe actually reserved a uhaul at another location in Rhome, TX first and when we called, our uhaul was not there. We then had to call and locate another truck. This location in Justin actually stayed open later in order to give us time to get there and get a truck. They were sweet and patient and never made us feel like we were inconveniencing them. We do, however, feel inconvenienced by UHaul not fulfilling our first reservation and causing much stress and time consumption in the middle of our moving journey.
