edwin zHad a good experience and would definitely use it again and recommend it. It was secure, clean and well lit. Overall the staff were pleasant and helpful, except one individual. When I needed one of their trailers moved said they had a bad back and told me to see someone else, that person was again pleasant and helpful. I have a bad back and I could have operated the equipment to move the trailer, it didn't require a "good" back to operate and they could have walked me over to the other person to make sure we connected, as other staff had done when they couldn't provide the assistance I needed.

However, upon my return and turning in the rental truck, I anticipated receiving an inspection clearance that would indocate that the vehicle was returned without any concerns from the U-Haul personnel, who inspected the vehicle. Since I was told that the inspection would take a few minutes, I decided to wait for my clearance receipt. However, I was highly mistaken. After seeing the personnel, I believe, take multiple photos of the top, right corner of the truck, and returning to the same sight will his celI phone camera several more times, I felt very uncomfortable and decided to re-enter the U-Haul facility to inquire about the hold up. And in speaking to the staff personnel who had waited on me, I was told that damages to the top of the truck was discovered and that I was being charged $215,34 that was charged to my credit card. I therefore disagreed with the findings of the inspection personnel and complained that the vehicle was given the best attention in my care, and that I did not hit any objects, neither did I drive over any bridges, enter any tunnels, drive near anything that woud have caused that type of damage to the top of the vehicle, a 15 foot long truck. And the worst part of it all was that i was accused publicly of causing damage to the truck; subsequently, I asked to speak to the manager, Mr. Henry Kotory, who explained the policy of vehicle being checked for damages upon being returned. However, I vehemently denied being the cause of the damages, and I requested that the Police Dept be notified, so that that they could checkmy cell phone and the route I took to pick up the piano, which was no more than 17 minutes away, and the drop off route that was no more than 35 minutes away. In my complaint, i felt that some at the U-Haul facility did not make a notification of the damages that the truck received in the care of the previous renter. mr. Kotorly then returned to his office, and upon his return, he stated that another renter from the presvious week had damaged the vehicle, but notification was not made (yellow sticker) and posted on the truck to point out the damage. (I understand and realized later that I should have inspected the vehicle prior to driving off and pointing out any damages. However, failure to follow those guidelines should not make me culpable of any damages. The personnel at U-Haul responsible for making note of the damaged, top portion of the vehicle on the front right sinde, did not follow through, and i was looked upon as the one responsible for the damage. However, the manager did note that i was not the customer, who caused the damage, and he removed the charge from my credit card, of which i am very grateful and satisfied. Also, he wrote a statement in longhand, pointing out that 'Thomas Jones did not damage the truck. . . The damage is from the previous renter, etc." However, I asked the manager to speak to the inspection personnel who accused me publicly of having damaged the vehicle. Moreover, he did not apologize for to me, which has left me feely very dismayed. I hope that in the future, the individuals employed at U-Haul with the responsibility perform their jobs thoroughly and professionally, so that all records will be maintained and accurate accordingly. I have rented from U-Haul in the past from the same location, but this is the first time I experienced this kind of negative/unprofessional treatment.

People helping out at the desk were great, and a guy that serviced the vehicles even came and helped me move two beds and two TV's after a family member wasn't able to come help me. Wish I could remember names better, but this location is BY FAR the best I've ever had experience with

OTHER THAN THAT THE SERVICE WAS GREAT AND VERY NICE FOR A FIRST TIMER KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Kenny CThere was a coarse gritty dust that appeared on boxes concerning for insect droppings or grinding ceiling boards from above floor. I had to wipe everything down with disinfectant wipes before removing - Also the unit had a smell of mice and mustiness- make sure clothes in well sealed bags to not pick up odors. I'm being honest here but also want to say the staff was helpful and location convenient and seemed safe. Other clients I met were also decent people. Was expensive for what it offered.

Derron HLady that assisted with my rental wasn't friendly and barely wanted to say hello. Rental truck was disgustingly filthy. Had a lot of trouble opening and closing the loading ramp as it kept getting stuck which took a lot of time. It perhaps need to be sprayed with WD40.

earl sIt's been more than one occasion when my license is approved I get the rental information but not the lock box information. Yesterday I started the chat and the young man kept telling me I could find it on the app under active rentals. Nothing showed up. After some time he called me to give me the code for the lockbox. He said on his end he was able to see how I wasn't provided with it on the app. I'm a woman most of the times I'm picking up at night. It's scary to sit in a lot at night trying to get that situated.

I had just driven 8,5 hrs from the Carolinas to move in with a JH and AV worth of things after packing my whole house and leaving at midnight. He was not very friendly and did not seem to want to be there. He was very combative with me when asking for alternate contact information and seemed to not want to explain exactly what or why it was needed. He also told me he was doing me a "favor" by providing me with my free one month storage for my contracts which were separate. As a former recent Uhaul employee I knew I had the right to my units for the month. He also tried to give me a smaller unit than requested specifically when I asked for what I needed and asked that it was on the same floor which was already shown to be available. This type of behavior was not customer centered and did not provide me with a good check in experience.

Sheila S | Expérience généraleMy storage facility leak in this from the ceiling and it was infested with rats or mice or whatever they were who ate into one of my furniture pieces, a large and comfortable chair that had to be discarded outside of that the staff was fine but my storage facility was in adequate. I do not have any dispute with the staff or U-Haul. I agreed to settle my account and that's the end of it. The staff was cooperative and didn't work with me to resolve my issue. I left the chair in the storage room so that they can see where the rat have a hole all the way through animals living inside the chair.
Nathaniel S | Expérience généraleI was not informed either via text or email that my order for equipment while renting a truck had changed. I paid for an appliance dolly along with a box truck. When I came to pick the truck up, there was no dolly in the back. When I asked the U-Haul employee where my dolly was, he stated they didn't have anymore available. The issue is I reserved the rental weeks ago, I needed that type of dolly for heavy furniture moving. Again, no heads up or email prior to inform me they didn't have what I paid for. He refunded me for the dolly, but I still had to figure out how move/carry a very heavy piece of office furniture. So the customer service and consideration at that location was non existent. Hence the low rating of my experience.

It is not safe trying to move items, esp heavy or bulky ones to the second level. Storage facilities without ramps / elevators are the only ones I would consider for future storage needs.

He did try to get our agreement set up then informed us that there was no locker available even though we reserved one, more than a week earlier. Daniel V | Expérience généraleSo first off, the storage facility was not the size advertised. The advertised size was 10x13x7. It was not 7 feet in height, it was more like 6 feet. This factored into my ability to store things and I wasn't able to store everything I had. This needs to be corrected on the website and reflected accurately otherwise I will report this facility and U-Haul to the BBB. Secondly, when I went to pick up my goods from the storage facility I found the process somewhat unwieldly. First, trying to park my 20 foot u-haul trailer in an area that wasn't blocking anyone and wasn't too far from the door was difficult as the pick up area was being used for truck storage and parking. Why were there so many trucks blocking the pick up entrance? People should be easily able to park and use that area to pick up their stuff. Also, the fact that the exit was routinely blocked by people returning trucks was annoying. Also, why were your employees using parking spaces for customers to access and pick up their goods from the storage facility. They shouldn't use these spots. Employees should park elsewhere. Overall, I would not recommend this facility to anyone looking to store their goods or rent trucks.

I should have moved doing all the time I kept the storage. Just was to busy with other things. You may want to inform other customers.

When I was shown the unit I reserved online, I mentioned to the representative showing the unit that it was not 7 feet high. The representative asked "Did you measure it?" That was a rude and condescending statement since he knew full well I had not pulled out a tape measure in the 30 seconds it took to walk into the unit and see how low the ceiling was. I'm not even 5 feet 5 inches tall and the ceiling was just above my head. I did not need a measuring tape to know that the unit was NOT 7 feet high, as listed. I again protested that the unit was shorter than listed. He said I would have to talk to the manager if I had a problem. Instead, I found a storage unit with another company that was the size listed and cheaper than the units offered by UHaul. I was very disappointed with the misinformation and the poor customer service. You can do and have done better.
Regina C | Expérience généraleThe units are extremely small for the amount of money being charged. Door and lock constantly jamming and hard to open and close. Pinched skin and fingers several times. The ceiling of my unit was all over my furniture and got all of my things super dirty and dusty. Insulation chips and debris from the ceiling were everywhere.
Nyl M | Expérience généraleMarcus lost our reservation. He booked it over the phone and then failed to finish entering it on his end after the phone call. There was no record of the reservation when we got there (with movers waiting on us), but luckily they had a unit available of the same size. It still took us close to an hour from when we first arrived to when we could begin unloading the truck since we had to fill out a new contract, which messed up due to the credit card reader and we had to fill out all the information twice. There were lots of people waiting in line and many complaints that we heard from other customers about their storage units or truck rentals (we also had a terrible truck rental experience with uhaul - they kept changing and cancelling our truck in the few days prior to the move). Overall, I would never use uhaul again for truck rentals or storage unit. However, the person who checked us out for the storage unit was kind, so I don't blame him.

I called several times to get information about where truck was at and everything. They were was supposed to call me back several times and never did. Then take truck back to there facility somewhere in Hyattsville Maryland with all of granddaughter belongings and expect us to go get it. Without them even calling and letting us know they were getting it when it was close to home in the first place. Furthermore, dirt and debris from God knows what tended to coat my items. The roof of the building leaks, potentially on uncovered items (because my unit itself has an exposed ceiling).

I was disappointed however, that it was not explained to me in advance that in order to get one month free or discounted on my storage unit that a truck would have to be reserved and brought to the Hyattsville location from another U-Haul location. That was not disclosed early on. Therefore, I reserved a truck online from the Hyattsville location planning to drop it off at the same location. Then the same day I came to sign my contract, I was told the truck would've had to come from another location and be dropped off to receive the promotion. Additionally, when I was first given the U-Haul storage access card, I was not shown how to use it and I was not told that I needed a specific lock for the storage unit. While the cashiers/customer representatives were nice, some key information was omitted and I had to keep going back to get the right information or for someone to show me how to do something.

I was told that due to COVID-19 U-Haul was given all customers one month free storage, however when I got to the store on Chillum Rd that was not the case. The salesperson was kind and gave it to me anyway but said that the individuals from the call center work at different locations and that each store runs their own specials. I called the call center a second time about 24-hour storage and I was told that no U-Haul locations offer 24-hour service, but I was told differently at the location where I purchased. Of course the salesperson at the store was right about U-Haul offering 24-hour storage access. The individuals at the call center are very misinformed and should know what's offered at ever location or should connect you to the store with the correct information.

There was clear evidence of previous water leaks on the walls from the pipes that were exposed in the unit. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because my stuff was thankfully not damaged. As and aside - I was charged a late payment fee of $42 on what was sent to me as a $0 bill. It turns out the bill was not $0, so why was it sent like that?
