The facility was clean and customer service was great, but the truck needed maintenance. Low tire pressure and wheel alignment needed. I had to really handle the truck just to drive it because the wheel alignment was so bad.

Myself and my husband came in Sunday morning to rent a truck and we have had a pretty stressful week! To my surprise the young woman working this morning, Brittany was excellent she was lighthearted and definitely lightened the mood for us by her smile and her silly jokes and just laughing with us! I would definitely recommend this location specifically Brittany for any of my friends or family going though a move or a rough situation.

I rented on Sunday and man when I walked in the door first thing at open there was one lady working and she was running around doing it all. And on all 3 of their computers kudos to your multitasking skills. And not to mention you went above and beyond with your kindness and knowledge. This is the spot to be my rental was quick with 15 people in the store and my return was even smoother. I'm so sorry I forgot her name. Young blonde lady with glasses!

Better or I would say another way to quickly check out. Even though I checked in online for my 7am pickup time. It still took another 45 minutes to get the vehicle because there was another customer in line that was having to be dealt with. Having only one agent helping slowed down the process significantly. The truck that I rented was not swept out and the seal on the dolly had been broken so it looked like it was not sealed for the next person to use. Other then that The vehicle worked and the return process was smoother then I would have expected.

I was in on 3/09/2024. Merrillville office. Original guy at front desk was OK not friendly but did what was needed. When I returned truck I entered and a lady was behind counter she told me I had to drive truck up to side of building or she could not check me out. She was very rude as if I should know what I am suppose to do. She said she would be out to check me in. I waited outside over 20 minutes as instructed. Finally a man yelled at me across the parking lot. I could not understand him so I walked to him and he said I could leave that he would take care of truck. So lady told me to wait until she checked me in and he tells me to leave. He was kind so I said i would just leave and took pictures of mileage and gas gauge. I guess I am old school but if this was my business i would be very disappointed in my employees especially the lady behind the counter. She was crass and not courteous. When I initially got in truck the gas gauge was below the 7/8's mark and I could not see the mileage, so I went in and asked man behind counter who was playing on his phone to come out and help me. Sadly I interrupted his phone time and he told me the gauge was right and if I had a problem with it to go on app and take a picture. So rude. Anyway I thought owner would like to know Thanks

I waited for about 20 min in the return line bc it was during regular hours. Finally a lady was coming into work and said "just go ahead and leave it on I will clock in and send you a receipt ". I said thanks and left. I drove 43 miles round trip, put 4,5 gallons the tank and she charged me for 1/8 of a tank. 2 gallons for 9 dollars. It's 9 dollars but still, shame on me for not taking pictures. I used uhaul to move across country and until now had no issues, but this is just making me very upset. Will not recommend uhaul especially this location moving forward. It will be her word against mine but this is ridiculous. I had the vehicle for 3 hrs.

drop-off location met my expectations.... but for past 2 pickup locations, being a manager myself for a large hospital, U-Haul is a major disappointment. I most likely will be researching other services deserved of my requests.

Replace gas caps each year. When I tried to remove cap, because of the frigid temps, the cap handle detached. Had to use pliers at gas station to remove to refill before returning.

I rented a one way uhaul truck, my rental process was okay. But my return process at the merrillville location was beyond. Brittany was incredible. Her kindness and professionalism goes a long way for someone who's had a pretty stressful week. Perfect work field for her to be in with people being stressed over a move or being evicted. Her compassion shows!

Power locks power windows and USB ports for traveling and remove stickers on side windows passenger and driver side and inpairs side vision and a small step or ramp of some sort to get in the smaller trucks I had to use a small ladder because I have problems with my legs. besides that everything was excellent

make sure they are aware of supplies and things I was sent down the road to pick up utility dolly and was told they have one and when I got their they didn't have nor did they call to verify

When I arrived to pick up the truck Cesar working at the counter was so rude and didn't want bothered to help. He sat on his chair and when I asked him for the furniture mats and wrap that I ordered ahead of time he said I would need to go get the truck and then stop back up at the counter to retrieve those items. Once he handed me the keys to the truck, I basically had to walk all the way to the back of the lot to find the truck that had 2 inches of ice on the windshield with no scrapper in the truck. After waiting 30 minutes for the windshield to defrost enough to drive back to the counter I got out of the truck to go inside to retrieve the furniture mats and wrap only to be told I need to go back to a different building to get the mats because he was too lazy to go bring them to the truck so I told him just to cancel them as I was already setback 45 minutes. Once I arrived at the location of the move, I found out that the back door was frozen shut which was another delay. I have rented at this location before but this time the experience was awful thanks to Cesar!

Truck was a bit dirty on floor boards, yet I understand it's the weather outside. However I appreciated the customer service I was provided today with Brittany and Mark. Mark went and got my truck from the back when I wasn't able to find it, drove me back to the back so I didn't have to walk again. I guess I overlooked the truck but got in and started right up. Will be back there

Everything was excellent. Super simple, fast and easy rental and return. Brittney was beyond helpful and accommodating. I had called ahead of time maybe 20 mins before my rental time to confirm and when I had gotten there Brittney had the truck pulled up to the front warming up waiting for me! Not to mention her customer service was beyond.

Improved customer service and how to communicate with customers. Brittany F would not assist my husband with our return. Vehicle was due back by 5:00pm CT and we arrived to the site by 4:55pn. We had trouble with returning by app and when my husband went inside to return the keys and ask for assistance, she rudely said we're closed. The temperature outside this evening at time of return was -10 degrees while we were trying to take photos to process the return. When we drove away we realized there was one phone we missed, of the vehicle parked. we had to turn around and take the photo to process the return. When walking up to the site for the photo, Brittany F said again, as she did to my husband, ma'am we are closed. I said yes I know, you know how cold it is out here we've been trying to return this vehicle for 15 minutes my husband went inside and you wouldn't help him. Brittany F said who are you even talking about why are you freaking out? I told her you wouldn't help him when he came inside and we made it back before the 5pm return deadline. I told Brittany you're closed so bye I got this I will figure it out. She got loud with me, raising her hands and voice, she was confrontational with me, appeared anxious, stress, and agitated. I took my photo of the parked vehicle for the return and walked away, Brittany F was near her vehicle by this time and screamed at me yeah you better keep walking that's what I thought, keep talking and see what happens. Brittany F verbally threatened me in the parking lot while I was trying to return my rented vehicle in -10 degree weather. She clearly demonstrated her lack of care for customer service and was not interested in providing any level of customer service, would not listen and responded like she wanted a confrontation rather than apologizing and trying to help the situation. I will be filing a police report against Brittany F with the Merrillville Police Dept because she threatened me and she has access to my name, phone number, address and driver's license. I do not trust her and do not want her being able to access my receipt or customer information. I will go as far as filing a restraining order against this person, as she has clearly demonstrated her ability to react professional and rational in high stressful situations. Melissa Skith

The directional signs guiding the truck drop-off were conflicting and confusing. Upon entering the lot, one sign indicated straight-ahead for truck returns, while another sign next to it stated "do not enter." Despite my confusion, I confirmed the drop-off request with the receipts I had. However, I was then instructed to reverse the truck with the trailer, which I found uncomfortable due to about 10 feet of space available with surrounding trucks. Navigating around the building, I encountered contradictory arrows on the ground, some directing me to a "do not enter" area, leading to arrows facing the opposite direction from the designated drop-off point. Upon leaving in my own car, I noticed smaller drop-off signs near the ground, barely visible upon entering. Clearer, more visible signage from the initial driveway, facing the correct direction, would greatly improve the confusion. Moreover, a truck in the correct drop-off lane facing the wrong direction added to the misunderstanding. I recommend enhancing clarity in the signage layout for future customers. The employees seemed accustomed to assisting customers with this issue, indicating the frequent nature of such confusion. The employees were polite, but they did not seem eager to help until help was directly requested.

I rented a U-Haul near where I lived got called the day before told I had to drive a hour away to get the U-haul since they did not have my size of U-haul near me. I drive the hour one way and the doors where locked called and they said they switched me to merriville so I drive another have hour to get my u haul closer to my house with no phone call that my u haul had been switched to another location would not recommend at all. It was a horrible experience since I was moving a state away and had to be out of my house since it was sold!

I canceled my storage before my due date and was accepting of the $50 clean out fee due to me living over 2000 miles away. They still billed me and did not terminate but put a lien on the unit. I will not be paying anything but the cleaning fee and will return the card. I will also not be paying any late fees that were charged because I cancelled before the move out date. They need to read their own rules because they clearly think we don't!!

At that location Brittany was most diligent and helpful!!! I paid for climate control service and the unit I was in when I checked.out was at 51 degrees and on average the climate control fluctuated way to much for being controlled.

First of all… this unit wasn't even originally rented by myself. Someone else rented the unit and put my name on it, without my permission, I assume as an emergency contact. Melissa Chavez rented this unit. I helped her with the unit rent one time and the next thing you know, im the main name on the unit and it's my responsibility. I helped for a while because I didn't want her to lose her things. By summer this year, I was done being responsible for things that weren't even mine. I told them to take my name off the unit. They called and said they couldn't because there was still a lock on the unit. I said it's not my lock, not my problem. So for any further assistance with this unit, please contact Melissa Chavez, and send her the bill. The unit was always supposed to be under her name, never mine…I don't know how it was even ever made into my problem.

I had this storage for 2 months and when I got my things I had stink bugs all in my things I paid for the ins. And when I called to make a claim they said that bugs is not covered I had to leave my washer, dryer and refrigerator because of all the bugs thank God my new place had a three. That was in September of 2019 and they kept calling me asking me did I want pay for my things. Now it's September of 2022 and I get this email to rate them sad and I worked for U-Haul before in WI. As a former employee I couldn't believe how I was treated.

Didn't have a lock in unit like stated Lighting and security around the storage was nonexistent. Employees and owner don't solve your issues they just send you to customer service the. Customer service says they can't do anything. I didn't even move in and haven't received a refund or an email from the owner about my unit and the process to get out of the unit I never used. Moving is already hard this experience made it harder for me.

I am extremely disappointed with U-Haul. All of my furniture is WATER DAMAGED and MOLDY. I rented a CLIMATE CONTROLLED unit and paid extra for INSURANCE. I had to throw half of my furniture away. I have several pictures of my damaged furniture and a leaking wall in my unit. The insurance policy is BOGUS. I expect a refund for my damaged furniture and will be sending a detailed complaint to U-Haul. I will NEVER rent a storage unit from U-Haul again and will advise everyone to stay away.

Please pave the drive- the water drains are fully exposed in some spots, I was dodging them everytime worrying that I have my tires slashed... that is my only complaint... staff was great- there was a female there that knew her stuff-i forgot her name but I saw her for a previous rental- she was very helpful and funny making my experience good. Ms Riveria was absolutely helpful and it was very easy for last minute accomodation. I initially went to Pine Island location because I had reserved a unit online, but they could not find the reservation. Instead of simply telling me "sorry" and letting me walk out the door, the 2 gentlemen working Sunday afternoon called over to the Merrillville location and were able to help me without me prompting them. Great Staff!

The unit was transferred, TO ME. because my brother was going through a divorce and that storage unit was mostly all my deceased parents his stuff, birds he also was diagnosed with cancer so did it as a favor, as he wanted me to have whatever I could of my parents. Well the cancer did not get him, He ended up being murdered not even a year after switching that unit over then I was in the hospital very very very ill got behind payments and Covid hit, I know it is not U-Haul's fault but there is no way I could catch the payments up as for everything else was behind also since I was in the hospital and so sick. I mean you have to have lights and water and food, now I have been sent a notice that they auctioned it off for $450 and want to sue me for $1160 so as my brother had two other unitsWith U-Haul between him and the payments I did pay before going into the hospital I just don't think it's fair that I'm getting served with being sued now

We rented a uhaul on July 13th and the scheduled pick up was July 24th at 7 am. We found out on July 23rd we didn't have a uhaul available and the closet one was an hour from our location. We changed pick up locations and times to July 23rd at 7pm. We arrived at the Knox location only to find out it was closed and no one was available. We finall ended up getting a truck an hour later without a dolly that we paid for.. With the one way trip we qualified for a free month of storage which is an hour from where we needed but that was fine. We got go our storage in merrillville only to find out they didn't have w storage unit available like we were told. We had to drive another hour to find a storage until and then another 20 min to drop the truck off where we were told we still owed $33. This has been the worst experience with a moving company I've ever had. We have to rental another uhaul in august and I'm considering taking my business elsewhere if we aren't properly compensated. This service wasn't worth the $381 you got from me.

Extremely poor reception by associate Scott Wells when I first arrived to get a storage unit. I had pulled in, in front of the gate as I had a trailer behind me. I couldn't fit my vehicle into a parking spot obviously, nor did I want to be out in the street blocking traffic. Scott was very annoyed that I was blocking the gate and scolded me for blocking access to his existing customers who may be trying to get into the gate. I apologized and asked where he'd like me to move while I wait my turn to rent a unit. He waved in a very non-specific manner towards the roadway and said he was very busy and would get to me when he could. As someone who also works in the front-line customer service industry, I understand the frustrations of being overworked and underpaid, but there is no justification for this awful behavior. Will NOT recommend this establishment to anyone. It's also not my fault that the property is poorly designed and too small to accommodate larger vehicles with trailers. Extremely disappointing. Clearly this is a retirement job for Mr. Wells that he cares nothing about and is doing this to pass the time. Management should make note of this in his annual review.

This has nothing to do with the current management but my storage unit lock was change and some items came up missing and it was in a shamble. I still have the lock they replace mine with as well as my original key l tried to make a claim and the guy was real rude to me.

Unit I was given had broken glass as well as someone's left over garbage. I assumed these units are checked and cleaned in between rentals but apparently that's either not the case or you're short staffed. There's a fee associated with everything which I understand but if you're going to do business that way, maybe take care of your end. Merci.

The storage facility staff was excellent. They stayed a little longer to check me into the my storage unit. They explained everything and answered all my questions. They even walked me to my unit to show me where it was. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a storage unit.

Our experience using your storage facility for the most part has been great. The staff has been very helpful and friendly. Our only issue over the past 10 years has been trying to regain access after a door repair and a lost key. We n3ded to have our lock cut off. The request was made in Nov 2019 and not completed until July 2020. This task only took 5 minutes to complete. So, we could have been out of our unit sooner. Anyway, that's our only complaint.

Overall I was very satisfied. My only complaint would be the pricing. If seems like the price of the storage increased way too frequently. The price didn't fit the size of the unit.

Had an indoor storage unit for 1 year with U-Haul Merrillville. It was a nightmare! There was a break in to all units in my hallway. There was no apology from U-Haul and no discount. The communication of the break in was terrible. They were rude and couldn't help me as I was out of state when it happened. In addition to not being safe, the facility is dirty. Found a lot of bugs every time I opened storage unit. Finally, staff was not friendly. Every time I came into the office it would be a 30 min wait to talk to someone. I have taken all my belongings and moved to a much nicer storage facility down the road for the same price. Stay away from this storage!!!

Prices are ridiculous and they up the rent atleast once or twice a year by $5.00. Dont expect it to be plowed until the next day if it snows. Much cheaper better places out there with 24/7 access.

One year ago I reserved a 10 x 10 unit I was told there was no problem reserving a 10 by 10. Which would have cost me $150. when I got there they had a 10 x 15 which cost $184 that's the $34 hike.
