Showed up for a pre-reserved 15' van at 9:30 for a 9:00am reservation pick up time. The stores lights were off and no staff onsite but a sign stating manager on property but will be back soon. After waiting for 15 minutes I decided to try downloading the U-Haul app to try and check the van out through online check out which I was able to get through and complete the checkout. At which point I tried to call the stores number to see if anyone picked up. No one answered the phone and I was routed to U-Haul customer support. Spoke with Kristy who was very ready to help me sort things out. While she put me on a brief hold the manager on site showed up and the lights turned on at which point I ended the call with Kristy to try and get the van checked out with the onsite manager. He told me that if I had reserved the van it should have been out in the parking lot ready for pick up. The only 15 foot vans were behind the locked fence within the perimeter of the storage units. Without a way to get a key from the manager and without him letting me through the fence I wouldn't have been able to self checkout. I was then told by the onsite manager that I needed to return the van by 5pm or I would have to take the van home overnight because he didn't want me to leave the van there outside the fence overnight due to prior history of vandalism. While I understand his concern I filled out in my reservation that I would need the U-Haul until 9pm and the reservation promised a 24/7 remote drop off which is why I accepted the reservation. When I went to go unlock the the U-Haul and check it out to make sure it was safe I noticed I only had a quarter of a tank of gas and now needed to go fill up a 100$ fill up just to be able to use the van for an appointment that the Manchester location had already made me late for. The van had cigarette Ashe all over the inside of the seats and what appeared to be cigarette burn holes in the middle seat. Prior to bringing the U-Haul back I called a different U-Haul location in Portland to ask If I could drop the van at there location because it was closer to where I finished moving. They explained I could do that but I would need to call the Manchester U-Haul to let them know I would be doing that but by that time it was already 5:40pm and the store was closed. The Portland store explained that I would be better off bringing it back to Manchester because otherwise I would have To pay a massive fee for not dropping it back where I got it from. I decided to drop it back after hours against the request of the Manchester onsite manager because I didn't want to risk the large fee for returning the van to a different store that was more convenient for me as a customer which still ended up costing me more money because I had to pay the extra mileage to get it back from my transport drop off point. Was I able to get the job done for why I rented it? Yes I was. Was it a complete pain in the ass to use your product/service/app? Absolutely. Did I have a bad enough experience that I felt compelled to write ALL OF THIS? Yes it was not a good experience and will most likely use another location or alternative service provider.

Surprised to get different information from my phone call night prior. Truck only had enough gas to drive safely from Manchester to Windsor. Put $40 in gas. Filled tank. I don't like the drop off system. I wanted paper receipt but gentleman at Meriden drop dismissed my questions. They held $100 that I specifically asked the night before when I spoke with Wendy representative reserving the truck. I don't have a printer. And I wanted to speak to someone. I want my compensation on gas and my deposit. Only used for a few hours and returned. Please respond to my request

The location feature of the UHaul app did not work there and the app could not read the barcode. The key drop-off box was located a distance from the front of the building toward the back. It was all manageable, but not intuitive especially at night while it was raining.

I like the fact that the people are nice, and the storage is always clean. I also did not have any item stolen but if is possible the smell within the area could be avoided and please provide a garbage within its environs. Overall, you guys' rock!

Every six months the price was increased claiming pest control and all. Mice were in my unit and ruined my recliner. I paid a lot of money for that unit. Raised the price but not the care. No, I will not recommend your storage units.

While the equipment was clean, the truck had a tire pressure warning light on and message on dash display that that system needed servcing. The UHaul app was not user friendly and seemed to be malfunctioning. The onsite staff, Demaris, was excellent, friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous

This location was across town. Their parking lot was too small and full. The drop off took longer than the pick up. I was charged for an extra day. I called 24 hours before to advise that I couldn't make the drop off time. I was around an hour late.

Advise every customer of the on-line procedure needed when the truck is picked up and dropped off. The drop off takes about 15 minutes including photos and has to be done before you lock the truck and drop the key. I was not advised of this and dropped the key first then went to check the vehicle in.

We had a great experience with the two young men who assisted us. The young man at the desk was friendly , professional and had a wonderful personality. It snowed a bit the morning we picked up the truck and The young man who was in the parking assisted us with obtaining the key from the lock box and cleaned the truck off for us. Personally, one of the gents here over a year or two ago provided clear and consistent assistance and service. Meanwhile this time around. The service was pretty much and solely pushed for you to do it yourself even if you didn't understand the new upgraded system. Unclear, unhelpful service. The worse I've ever encountered. The service needs to be vocally clear and assisted upon with clear guidance. Show more care and support when the customer that seeking your business services is asking for it.

With card access and exterior storage units, there shouldn't be the need to limit access hours unless mandated by local ordinances. This may have been the case, but we felt rushed to get everything done when our schedules only allowed us to get there late in the day.

I reserved the rental truck online once I arrived to complete the process I had trouble with my phone the WiFi was bad luckily the employee hadn’t left yet he had to finish the process on his phone this gentleman was very helpful I don’t think I would trust the online rental again only because of this potential problem otherwise I am a satisfied customer

The staff in this location was so helpful and very friendly. I was pleasantly surprised to find the van I rented immaculate! This is the first time that I have rented from this particular location, but it will certainly not be the last! I was very impressed with how clean the vehicle was as every other time I have rented these types of vehicles from other places, they have always been beat up and dirty. You can tell that this U-Haul location at Spencer Street Manchester, CT takes great pride in their business and their products and services they offer.

The man who checked me out could not print any contract and said he would send it to my phone… he never did!!! Confusion when I dropped off.??? Said that he just put an estimated hold on my bank account??? Did not happen this way last time which was a pleasant experience. This one however, was not. Left there anxious about my bank account. No parking available for customers, so we had to make the process literally running because others customers were complaining. 1 customer went to buy 4 small boxes and he parked in front of the building causing a situation. The Uhaul staff have to deal with extra situations because of that. I made the after hours check out and i spent 1 hour dealing with the web page because it was not uploading the photos (I was receiving an error message) i took the photos like 6 times each.

When you went to truck you got to do it online it's very complicated for most people is very complicated for me had a hard time written in the truck I wasted 35 35 minutes trying to figure out how to rent the truck by the time I got the truck I burnt 30 minutes it's a very bad system doing online recommend you guys think of a better system running it takes too long it's very complicated

The person who helped me was very nice and knowledgeable. However, I felt bad for her that she was the only one working. She had no help. After I had gotten there, more people walked in and she was also getting phone calls. Everyone could have been helped faster had there been at least one or two other people. Personally, I'm not a fan of doing everything online myself. Not sure if this is at every U-Haul location. Two years ago when I moved, it was not like this. I feel much better actually going through the process with a worker to make sure everything is ready and correct. Location wise, it's close to the apartment I'm moving out of it, so that's nice. But the main building to get assistance at and the actual location of the trucks is such a far walk. After finding the truck and checking if all the equipment was there because I had to finish the check out process online, I found that two out of three dollies I rented weren't in the back of the truck. When I clicked "no", the dollies weren't there during the online check out process, a message appeared saying I had to go get assistance. This made me have to walk all the way back to the main building, and yet there was a small building right there by the trucks that another employee could've been at for assistance. But since there was only one person running the entire place, I was left walking that distance to the main building. Also, it's odd that the keys are picked up in a locked box with a padlock at the small, empty building by the trucks. Again, it would've felt better to have an employee help out and hand me the keys physically In the end, my friend who was helping me drove up to the main building in the truck to grab the missing dollies. But overall, I felt this process could've gone a lot faster and smoother had check out been done at the desk with an employee helping me and not having me essentially do the job myself online. Other than that, at the end of the day, the move happened and we actually managed to return the truck a little earlier than scheduled.

The woman that helped me went above and beyond. I was struggling to get the QR code to work with self pick-up and she literally spent 45 minutes with me, resolving the issue. She was incredible. I was so thankful for her help in such a stressful moment. Give that girl a raise!

I rent about 15 to 20 trucks a year. This by far was the worst location. They forced me to use the website to log it to get my truck. Which took over 30 min . The site crashed 3 times. The guy just looked at me like oh well I can't help you. This was by far my worst experience at any uhaul. Bring back real people not an app. Will not use this location again. Received a text saying that uhaul was going to call me. Never heard from them. This is a horrible way to run a business.

I called to set up my truck and storage reservations and told the associate Oakland street when I get to the storage with a truck full of stuff and movers that I only had for 3 hours I find out they booked me the wrong location instantly got frustrated annoyed and aggravated I would like to thank the associate that calm me down and made me realize everything is fixable I think the associate name was Cesar did a great job transferring me and finding something to move my stuff in so little time turned my experience from negative to positive

I would only suggest that renters be given the suggestion to totally seal boxes, including hand holes when moving in. No matter how much effort is taken by management, the units are outside so bugs and even mice can gain access. Other than that, no issues with water or other storage problems.

It really bothered me that this company doesn't prorate. It would be so much helpful to every customer if we were able to do move our storage out and be charged for the days that we use. I heard storage units can be prorated if a customer is using the unit against company's policy, but to know a customer can't use that option doesn't make sense.

The staff here was polite, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. I had issues with smoothness of opening unit door but in all , it works out...I do have arthritis- so trying to pull a slightly bent or rusted door was more difficult. The cost made UHaul a best value!

we ave used storage facilities in several locations all over the country and rate this site very highly. The staff was helpful, the facility welk lit and clean. When we vacated we rented a truck and that too was without problem. I would recommend them highly.

Really!! I rented on Thursday and cancelled my rental on Saturday morning and was told that even though I had moved nothing into the rental and had taken a temporary lock from the manager that I would still be charged for the month. So, I am essentially giving a $202 donation to UHaul storage for not using the unit and am asked to give a review??? Beyond disgusting!!

Alot of properties had to be be thrown out because I discovered alot of mice feces in the unit rental. I pay a monthly insurance during the storage rental for 9months and yet have to be compensated.

I had a really poor experience with U-Haul. I had to move from Nashville to Boston and rented a ten foot truck. The location I originally selected in nashville to pick up the truck got changed to another location in nashville. This wouldn't be a huge deal for a lot of people but i could only pick up the truck after office hours at night and the location that I picked is much safer (well lit, location, etc) compared to the location U-Haul changed it to. When I went to go pick up the truck it was dark out and the parking lot was super dark and there were four or five lingering men hanging out around the truck. I wasn't safe. Then, I had to do the online check in to actually get the truck and the U-Haul website And the app were not working. I was out there by myself in the dark for thirty minutes waiting for the site to work as Im trying to not draw any attention to myself. But Im an alone woman in a parking lot so of course it got the mens attention. I was worried about my safety. Not okay. Eventually I get the truck and make the drive to Boston. I reserved a storage unit when I booked my truck and had a reservation number for the storage unit. I get to U-Haul storage And they say I don't have a reservation. I pull up my reservation confirmation And the number and they say it's not a reservation. Oh….my bad….I thought me paying $200 for storage and the email header of "your storage unit is reserved" means I had a storage unit. Also- when I go to drop off my truck the app and website (you guessed it!) werenot working again. I'm a 27 year old who knows how to operate technology. I don't know how anyone in my parents generation would be able to trouble shoot this if they were in my shoes with the truck rental. your online systems absolutely suck. I won't use U-Haul again and won't recommend it. That stinks for you guys because all my friends are moving! Definitely not worth the $800 I spent…especially when my safety was threatened.

The manager had breached the contract and limited my access to the unit,BEWARE OF THIS MANAGER SHE'S A DIRT BAG, BUT THE OTHER STAFF ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND KIND, I recommend you go to Oakland st instead all the staff there are great

Over all good place to rent a storage unit. The thing that is missing is the access to the dumpster. I was not allowed to put any of my broken down cardboard boxes and swept up items after move out into the dumpster. So I was left to cart it out myself.

There was a water leak at the base of the units' door. It wasn't fixed while I was renting the unit. A maintenance individual looked at it, but it never got fixed. I explained where the issue was, and was told that they will look into it. Other than that, great exoerience, great staff.

One of the problems with U-Haul they want you to buy their lock and early leads me to believe the locks they want you to buy they have a key for I put my own lock on and put their lock on my lock that way I know nobody’s going in there but me I also didn’t like that when I went to my storage unit which was once every 2 to 3 months that their card when I swiped it to open the gate would never work it seemed like an ongoing problem Other than that I would use them again in an emergency for storage but you have Everything you need for moving The good thing about U-Haul it’s a safe and secure place.
