I always look in the back of the truck, to be sure its empty (since 1 time, years ago, it wasn't). So when I looked this time, there was a dolly/hand truck and a bag of blankets on the wall, even though I didn't order either of those items. Those items used to always come standard with a U-Haul truck rental, but with online ordering nowadays, the online form asks if you do or don't want those things. And when I haven't ordered it, I don't expect it in my truck. And I don't want it, because it takes up space I need. So I went back in the store to find an employee to come take the dolly out, at least. The employee tried to avoid removing it, saying, you won't be charged for the dolly, if I don't use it. I said, I'll be charged if the little zip tie gets broken, which has accidentally happened for me in the past, and for my move today, the dolly will be in the way, so I'd be forced to relocate it. So the employee removed the dolly. I said I can live with the blankets on the wall, but in the future I'd prefer they were also not there. I had already done my online condition check-in, and there's no place to enter info about a dolly and blankets being present or not, but I guess there should be. In the online form, I had also marked the truck as "clean". But while the dolly was being taken out, I noticed a few small dark clods. I told the employee, I didn't initially notice there's some mud in the truck, but I'll still take it. After driving the truck to my loading location, I got in the back to sweep out what I thought were dirt clods. It smelled like livestock were last transported, and the "dirt clods" and "mud streaks" were greasy, so I had to deal with cleaning more than just sweeping. Luckily I wasn't transporting a mattress or household items. I wonder if homeless people get in the back of the trucks at night, and I suggest U-Haul start keeping the back locked to prevent that. I wouldn't mind except they might crap in the truck, too, which is my best guess as to what happened, and it wasn't cleaned up well. I was also surprised I had to do an online check-in when I returned the truck after hours. The online check-in form should have a place for comments, so I would have recommended the inside of the truck (back and cab) be throughly cleaned. And, in the future, I'll have to better inspect the truck upon pickup, before I complete the online check-out form.

I did an inside store/counter pickup for my truck rental (not by phone). So I was surprised that I received a text with a link to answer questions about truck condition (damage spots marked, cleanliness, etc). I rent trucks fairly often (for shows at the Bartell Theater). This was the 1st time I had to do a truck condition check-in electronically. I was a bit annoyed since I wasn't expecting it, and thought I was done/ready to go.

The only thing was that we had a 1/2 inch of ice on the windshield that needed to be scraped off and defroster didn’t work. So that was frustrating. Otherwise, the worker was super nice and accommodating.

My rental experience was great. It's alittle disconcerting that the person behind the counter pulled out his phone and took pictures of the front and back of my license. That seems strange. It might just be the way things are done, but it would seem more appropriate to have a different piece of equipment to do that. I'm not saying anything against the person who helped us, he was very friendly and helpful. It just doesn't seem right that a phone is used to take these pictures. The customer has no way to know if that's his personal phone, a company phone, etc.

I arrived to return my UHaul at around 6:55 p.m. on Mon., Dec. 16. I went into the building (the door was unlocked) and was told by a worker from across the room (that I couldn't see) that they were closed. I looked at my phone and saw it was only 6:58. I asked what I should do with my key and she said to put it in the slot in the garage. To me, that wasn't good customer service on several levels. First, if the door is open and it's a few minutes before closing time, the business technically isn't closed yet. I was hoping to ask a few questions, but didn't after being told they weren't open. Also, since I was in the building with the key, it would have been nice to accept the key from me, rather then telling me to go to a different location outside. This UHaul is very convenient and I will continue to use it, but I recommend this employee be talked to about how a customers experience is more important than making sure you get out of work as fast as possible.

We reserved a truck and it was not there when we went to pick it up. We had to drive to another location to get the truck. Everyone was very apologetic. It was raining and the truck was wet and muddy on the inside. We were a bit delayed but everything worked out in the end.

I dropped of the Van at 5Am, I rented! And the New Hired Miss place the Key I returned and told no one! Until I stopped in at 5Pm. The next day to help the staff look for the missing key! No one called me? About the missing key? I had to call, for inquiring about the missing key? Why doesn't your staff call the person who rented the vehicle? Instead of calling U-haul traffic?

I was very unhappy when I returned the truck - I had no idea how to drop off the key. I would have been nice to have that information before I got there. Also I was charged for gas..the tank was not full when I picked it up and I was charged for 2 gallons .

I rented an open cargo trailer. Latch for one side of the drop gate was missing. Made it hard to open and close the gate effectively. Trailer did not pull well when empty. Bounced and rattled on the hitch.

When I received the truck, I found the padlock on the lift gate had been cut with a bolt cutter by a previous renter. The U-Haul rental operator gave me a new lock to use, so no problem. My point is to inspect the truck before the next customer takes it out.

I rented a 5 x 8 trailer from this location. After the trailer was attached, the associate had test the turn signals and brake lights. After this was done I was given the "ok". As I was towing the trailer, an irate driver started to blow their horn at me while I was changing lanes. I did not think much of it at the time, but when I stopped to drop off furniture at my son's apartment, I wanted to check the tail lights myself. It turns out that when my son activated the right turn signal on my car, the left turn signal came on for the trailer and vise versa. Needless to say this is probably why the other driver was blowing their horn. When I returned the trailer, I did notify the associate of this issue and he was able to observe the same issue I just described. Going through a safety check and being told everything is ok when it is not is unacceptable.

I was charged $8.50 (EZ Fuel) even though I put more gas in than I used. Pictures taken to verify. I then emailed this location on the same day of the rental- and have heard nothing back in 2 weeks.

We utilized the electronic app for check out here and thus did not have any interaction with staff. The lot was extremely full and I think we got the last possible space for our trailer as this is college move in time in Madison. The location could not have been better and we are extremely grateful for your electronic app as we could not return the trailer during business hours.

Inform the customer of how big the gas tank is especially if the tank is less than half. Most customers will see that the tank is under half and fill it, especially if they gauge the trip to be far. In addition, I wasn't aware of the added mileage fee. While only small, I was overpaying extra fees when I lost money on exceeding the 3/8ths tank. There is no mention of the mileage fee in the equipment contract.

Alex was completely overwhelmed. He cursed and told me that he didn't give a shit where i took the trailer but it wasnt going to be at his location. He also suggested that the Uhaul customer service were poorly trained and information received via customer service could not be trusted. On top of that i was charged a $164 cleaning fee which was totally out of line. I truly hope someone reads this and address this employee

I received a voicemail that Uhaul changed my truck reservation from the 24-hour window I had originally contracted to a 6-hour rental window. When I tried to resechedule the 6-hour block I was automatically switched to in order to fit my schedule, I was told I could not make any changes because the rest of the day was full. On the morning of the rental, this was reservation was further cut to 5.5 hours. I was just barely able to return my truck on time because my Uhaul basement storage unit at this location was covered with mold, so I had to throw away all of my furniture and attempt to scrub the mold off all my suitcases, bins, and boxes that were touching the floor. Uhaul should not be reducing rental periods just to make more money off of their customers or making any changes to reservations without at least first getting permission from the customers who have booked these reservations in advance. In my case, I booked this reservation about 6 months in advance. Uhaul also needs to be held accountable for maintaining storage units so others do not lose their belongings to mold and other unacceptable storage conditions.

Make sure before signing the contract you look at the drop off location. I was not aware I could not drop off just anywhere! I was being sent 37 miles away from my move in place. When I called that day I was told I could not change the location with my original uhaul company. After many calls I was able to drop it off 1 mile up the road! I was also told I would get money back for turning it in early. I turned it in in less than 24 hours and I had it for 2 days. I got no money back. I was very much miss lead by the original company.
