No knowledge of approximate truck range. My truck had about 1/2 tank, and U-Haul people had no idea of how much range I could expect other than "quite a way"

Brian FReceived truck with just a quarter tank left of gas in it. Drove it 7 miles and refueled to the same fuel gauge amount and was charged a hefty fee because they had the info wrong. I should have taken a photo when I received the rental but thought this place was professional and not cheats. So disappointed. I thought I found a great solution to all my hauling needs but came up short.

Mike HLocation found not honor reservation. Said our truck had not been returned by previous renter. Had to p/u a truck in Kearney Mesa and pay extra mileage plus pay Uber to take me there and pick me back up at the end of the rental. Added over 20 miles to the rental, plus costs of extra fuel. All in the day was over $150 more expensive!

Jonathan RI reserved a 20ft truck two days in advance with a furniture and a regular dolly. On February 10 when I got there they said they don't have any dolly available which was a big headache for me to go somewhere else and find one. They had enough time to contact me instead of saying at the last minute I cannot get dolly which messed up my moving plan. Another issue was they give me the truck and said the gas is full and I drove only 28 miles and before returning I went to a gas station I put 5 gallon gas to make it full. While handing over the key I talked with the store supervisor ( don't remember his name, he was a white guy around 30 years old) and told him I believe the truck gas was not full because I drove only 28 miles and I put 5 gallon gas can you return my money. Instead of helping, with a very bad attitude he acted like I'm a dumb and don't know and said, these trucks are big and take 5 Mile Per Gallon I was shocked and asked him again he was yes I am correct. I have the paperwork and the gas receipt and I am going to send it to you guys for reviewing. I know it is not a lot of money but the unprofessional behavior of the store supervisor has to be considered seriously.

thomas lI do have a question. I drove from San Diego 92107 to Portland OR 97215 and it appears that the truck builds up condensation inside, is that normal? I ask because items that were directly touching the floor (think legs on a desk) has water damage. I first noticed something was wrong when I removed my overnight backpack from the back of the truck and it was wet.

I originally had chosen a location closer to my house but they didn't have what we needed. When we got there they didn't have the stuff I reserved. They told me they'd call before they closed because they were waiting for stuff to be returned. Instead they ended up calling us at 3:10 to let us know that the stuff hadn't been returned and that we'd have to go get it from a further location. That location closed at 4 and was over 1/2 an hour away. When we got there they tried to tell me they didn't have the equipment and when they found it they told me I had to pay again… I had already paid and they were trying to get me to pay more for my equipment. Thankfully I could prove I'd already paid.

thomas lThe furniture dolly I ordered was not available at this location. This location was not going to provide a furniture dolly at all, even though I ordered one ahead of time. After complaining about not getting what I ordered, they finally called another location, which had a dolly. I had to drive out of my way to pick up the furniture dolly. This 'detour' messed up my schedule. Needless to say, I was not happy.

Alice MEquipment was old. I received a call asking when I was going to return the trailer the day AFTER I returned it. The next day I received a invoice for three days on a one day rental. I had to go in, in person, to get this resolved. I've always had good service at this location until now.

John MManger of this location should be advised not to take the phone off hook. They are very hard to reach by phone at all times weekdays. Second, U-Haul needs to rework their iPhone app. It will not correctly recognize arrival at the facility for truck return (even after going through all the advised fixes to allow location discovery). The problem seems to be that the facility location is not recognized by U-Haul or is in error. That reflects badly on the company. Many others had the same problem that evening. Are they gaming renters for the return fee? Everyone at the facility was cheerful and helpful otherwise.

It sounds like a young girl screaming in my ear when it goes off. And it goes off every 20 to 30 minutes. I doubt there is a break-in that frequently. I'm quite terrified by the sound of this alarm.

Mitchell F | Expérience généraleThere were a few hiccups regarding my access card at the beginning of my tenancy, when I was still trying to bring stuff to storage several nights a week, which was quite frustrating. But once that was resolved, everything went very well, all the way through renting a truck on-site (which is a huge convenience), hiring U-Haul's Moving Help to load the truck, and driving it off to go into another storage facility that is affiliated with U-Haul for the truck rentals only, so I could return my truck on-site at the new storage facility. I'm not sure what changed at the Clairemont Mesa facility, but I definitely feel that it's better run now than when I moved in, and that's no small feat, even in the best of times. If I could give half stars, I would give them 4,5 stars. I do recommend this facility, and while I don't think I'll ever have the need, I would rent here again myself.

It would often go off while I was inside my unit and I'd have to do jumping jacks for 5 seconds for it to turn back on 2 units down because that's where the sensor was. Annoying when you have to do that over and over while in the unit.

Eric J | Expérience généraleMy truck pickup in Wichita went smoothly. When I picked up the Ubox for a load share the box was not ready. The drop off of the box went smoothly. The storage unit was a debacle. My wife went to get a dolly at the original drop off/storage unit location (Point Loma) and was told we didn't have a reservation and there was no availability. I had to call and get transferred several times to get a unit worked out. I was told eventually that I had a reservation and could drop the truck at the clairmont Mesa location but when I got there no reservation existed. Fortunately there was availability but only for a 10x10 which I was quoted a price of $189, $60 more than I was originally quoted. Now I am stuck paying more or going back and moving my stuff to a smaller unit. I don't want to pay more or move my stuff. So everything went pretty well with the truck and the load share but the storage unit was/is a disaster.

There were some homeless people nearby at times and although, I have sympathy for them I felt uneasy at times. I made the hours work although I would have preferred to have had access earlier in the morning. The staff was fantastic and the facility was wonderfully cleaned.

I am currently renting a truck from Uhaul that I reserved and picked up from the Pt. Loma location. While reserving the truck, the website said that I was eligible for a free month of storage. When I tried to claim the free month and reserve storage, the website said it had a validation problem and suggested I call and set the storage up to get my free month. I called the number listed for the Clairemont location from this review and asked the person on the phone about getting the free month of storage. He looked up my account for the truck and told me that I was eligible and would receive the free month. I reserved the storage unit over the phone with him and asked him again about the free month. He confirmed that I would be getting a free month of storage, based on my current truck rental. I arrived at the store to check in near closing time and spoke to the person at the counter to get the keys to my storage unit. He told me I am not eligible for a free month of storage because of the type of truck I rented and the type of move. I told him that I had called his location's number, spoke to a representative of the company to reserve the unit, and was assured that I would receive a free month of storage. The person told me that my call was re-routed to a call center and that the employees at the call center regularly make promises like this on the company's behalf that are then not fulfilled at check-in time. He told me this was a systemic problem and that there was nothing he could do to help me in that regard. He was very polite and was caught in the middle of the situation but I feel like I have been mislead by the UHaul system. I would really appreciate it if I could be credited with the month of free storage that Uhaul promised me.

This occurred everytime I tried to enter the building. I imagine it's a function of the technology and being outdoors though. When the time comes you might want to replace with a regular badge reader or something built for outdoor use. There must be some better technology.

None of your procedures have changed for Covid and it's B.S. -- there are never even customers at the facility when I go so there is no reason to be charging more and more rent for "higher levels of sanitation". It's dishonest and I've also never seen any employees cleaning the entire time I've been renting there.

In addition I've rented numerous U-Haul trucks and trailers over the years. On Monday 10/1 I checked out of my unit and was told that the difference in October paid rent ($77,41) would not be refunded. There was no manager available and since I was on my way to PA I had no time to argue with the personnel on site. The site manager had told me in the past when prepaying that if I moved out the balance would be refunded. This is completely unacceptable even if I hadn't been such a good customer over the years. Some smell so bad that, if they are on one of the storage unit floors their horrendous stench fills the entire floor. I went one evening to retrieve a few items from my storage unit and when I parked my car apparently my headlights angered some homeless people in a van that were camping on the property and they flashed their headlights at me and yelled because my car's headlights were aimed at them were I parked outside the storage entrance. Some of these disgusting squatters are very aggressive and this why I will never use this Uhaul facility again. It's too bad because I like the location and the actual storage units. If I were the Manager of this place, I would eradicate this problem before Uhaul loses all there respectable paying customers.

One staff member was unwilling to troubleshoot the issue and offered a larger locker of course for a price that was higher. Upon further discussion we were able to look at another unit that was the correct dimensions and what we had planned for. We appreciated the willingness to get us set up in the unit size we requested however it was regrettable that it took so much effort to do so. If a unit is advertised as a certain size that is the expectation as the consumer that we will not be short changed.
