My rental experience was very good. The staff at my local store were very quick, friendly and easy to work with. The only downside was the on-line reservation part. Please take out trying to sell me four pages of extras before I can finalize my reservation. I know people some times want those things, but when you don't it feels like you're trying to squeeze every dollar you can out of my reservation. Maybe make a button where folks that are looking for additional items can click on and the rest of us can just finish. Thanks!

Location did not provide the guaranteed 20FT truck, and instead only had a 10FT truck. This severely impaired our ability to move and lengthened the time it took to move. This honestly screwed our weekend of moving up so badly. I do not plan on doing business with U-Haul ever again.

Try training personnel to be efficient (read: speed rather than sloth) and efficacious.(read: a grasp of how procedures/policies work) A personal work ethic and a personality cannot be instilled into a counter person. However, U-haul can entrain a professional and welcoming attitude, even if it means memorizing a script. Historically, I have had good-excellent service at this location with staff. While my counter person was moving along at a glacial pace, I observed the manager on-duty to be very efficient, efficacious and professional. The manager was clearing the counter at a rate of 3:1, compared to my counter person, who was essentially hiding from view. However, since my counter person was clearly untrained, functionally-unwilling and unaware (possibly feeling unwell and/or overwhelmed?) the U-haul culture is suspect. My equipment-return process was smooth and the associated personnel friendly and efficient; a very good-excellent experience. Convenience-of-location and the amount of equipment available at this location makes it ideal for a short-notice rental and the central booking process was professional and precise. This bodes well for referring a friend or colleague. However, contacting the local office is a nightmare, virtually impossible; an unfortunate reflection on the U-haul culture and customer service. The Truck: Badly beaten down, scraped, dented and the interior surfaces were filthy and sticky. The drive train, lights and brakes were in working order. The cargo portion was amply for my needs, but was also dirty and definitely not broom-clean. No need for the egregiously over-priced insurance on this one, as only a head-on collision with a 737 would produce noticeable damage. The base price; $19.99 is appealing; the loss-leader, while the $1.49/mi. extortion plus the ridiculous insurance rates should allow for updating the fleet and training personnel. Overall: Considering the good, bad and ugly; 3 -stars; barely average for this encounter.

First of all Nicole was amazing!!! Excellent customer service skills, knows how to take charge, and skilled multitasker with minimal mistakes. As far as improvements, the entrance and exit lanes are congested and a bit chaotic. Hopefully in the future the company will redo the path so that is more functional.

Give the poor cashiers some new computers. The computer froze on the woman that was helping me at least 5 times. She had to input my driver's license info 3 times and input my emergency contact info twice. This is not an over-exaggeration. The whole checkout took about 30 minutes to complete because of this. She also had to manually input my credit card number at least 5 times because the computer wasn't communicating properly with the card reader. It was RIDICULOUS. I felt so bad for her and the other 2 cashiers there because they were getting yelled at by every single person for the unreasonably long wait in line. I arrived at the location at 10:10 to pick up the vehicle and 2 dollies I'd reserved online a week in advance. I didn't leave until 11 AM. ALSO, I reserved a furniture dolly and was told that none were available. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. The whole experience was extremely frustrating for everyone involved.

I told them I would return the truck in 2832 W Devon Ave, Chicago IL 60659. When I returned the truck there, they rejected me saying that they don't do the U-Hall service. Why do they post 2832 W Devon Ave as one of the U-Hall branchs and mislead people and make very inconvenient.

The problem is not with the Forest Park location rather with the whole U-haul box reservation we had. We should never have had to go to Forest Park to pick up a truck since corporate told us there were no trucks available at the Des Plaines location of our Uhaul box. No surprise that they once again gave us false information and the box was already attached to a truck when they got there. The whole experience with the Uhaul box was a nightmare with the exception of Ilene Mertes in Des Plaines who seems to be the only person in the whole Uhaul corporation who has a clue!

Also, mentioned that I had called to say I will drop off truck an a hour. Never did I make that call. I always tent a truck due to work purposes. I will not be going to that location again.

Your customer service is slow. People were standing in line so long that they gave up and walked out. One man who was trying to buy boxes and had a stack in his hands just dropped them and walked out. I waited 30 minutes to pick up the truck and another 30 minutes of standing in line to return it. Your staff is fine but there are not enough of them to provide good service on a timely basis.

This was my second appointment to have the hitch installed. My first appointment was in Cicero. The hitch did not arrive at the facility on time and the facility was not equipped to install it even if it had. Getting no help from the customer service phone number I complained via the web site email. After my complaint, I received a call from Ray Froedge the manager in Cicero. He had arranged to have the hitch shipped to the facility at 800 S. Harlem and made an appointment for installation at that facility. He also told me, due to the problems with my first appointment I would not be charged for labor, and only had to pay for the equipment. When I arrived at the Harlem location, everyone was very professional and efficient. Cliff the manager told me it would take an hour to install the hitch. The work was completed in about 15 minutes. I paid the balance due and left pleased with the experience. I should have taken a closer look at my receipt. Upon receiving a copy via email I noticed I was charged 85.00 for labor. Because I have nothing in writing to back up my claim that I was told I would not be charged for the labor I would not have pursued this. But, since you asked me to rate my experience, here it is.

This location was fine. However, my overall Uhaul experience was pretty bad. I had a truck pickup scheduled from 9am-9pm on a Saturday. At **2am Saturday morning**, I got a text message that my reservation had been changed to start at 3:30pm and end at 3:30am on Sunday at some other location. I had to call in once I woke up at 7am to find a truck at this location that I could get from 9am-9pm (which really makes you wonder why they didn't just give me that truck in the first place). Very disappointing experience.

When I made the reservation, I requested a furniture dolly but it was not placed in the truck. I discovered it only when I arrived at the moving site. As a result, I had to travel back to the u-haul office. The manager offered to rectify the problem by stating that I would not have to refill the truck with gas. When I received my final invoice, however, the gas charges were included. I contacted the location, but my call was rerouted to the general customer service, After being on hold for about 15 minutes, I was informed that the representative could not help me because the location is privately owned and that the only way to address the issue was to visit the location in person. Most frustrating experience. Will not use u haul in the future

Harlem location wrote up contract with OUT insurance that we wanted truck only had 3/4 of a tank and we had to pick up truck in the city rather than north side Glenview area at the last minute, trailer had tail light out as well. We drove this truck 1800 miles and were charged plenty. Drop off in fountain hills was good!

The gentleman who helped us on the morning we picked up our truck was very kind, I wish i remembered his name! ultimately we will use the Roosevelt Rd location in the future because it's easier to get in and out of. My only issue is that for some reason both of the times that I have rented a truck from here, the system froze while i was trying to pay with my discover card. Maybe someone should call Discover to see what the issue is. Both times they ended up having to manually enter the card so it would not freeze up. Otherwise everyone was friendly and courteous and quick to bring the truck around. Very nice visit.

When I made the reservation, I was to pick up thos trailer at the 47th street location in Lyons. When I went to pick up this trailer, I was told it wasnt there, I had to go to Forest Park to pick it up. That was 6 miles further than I expected. When I arrived to Uhaul in Forest Park there wasnt anyone to assist me. It looked as if there were 3 Uhaul employees helping 1 customer. After 15 minutes of waiting I asked if the could spare 1 employee to help me because i was on a tight schedule and already behind schedule because i had to go out of my way to pick up this trailer at a different location than I made the reservation for the trailer. She said yes. As she was helping me, she left to help other employees 3 times to help other customers. I was there for over an hour to pick up a trailer. The Uhaul employee spent a total of 15 minutes helping me and over 45 minutes helping other guest that came in after me and left before me. Overall using Uhaul added 3.5 hours to my move. This is time I will never get back. For this reason, i find it very difficult to take a risk to use Uhaul again.
