Make sure the person at the desk has been trained. The first person we spoke to did not have a clue what she was doing. When the next person came in we had to completely start over and much of the information we received on our initial phone call was different than what they told us at the location. We will NEVER us that location again.

I called and got a reservation for a pick-up, then when I got to the actual location, I was told there were no pickup trucks available. Also, I was quoted 89cents on line for mileage, then in-store, I was told 99 cents because it was a Saturday. I would have like the same info from all parties. It needs to be streamlined.

Also I pre filled out my drivers license information and it was somehow not there when I came in to pickup the truck. The truck I rented leaked water in the cab and in the storage portion. These things have to have been reported before but not fixed. I won't be renting from you again.

Kerry S.This was absolutely the worst rental I have ever gotten thru U-Haul and I have rented a lot of their equipment over the last 5+ years I rented a 26' moving van. This was not the first time I rented a moving van this size. This piece of equipment was junk and an accident waiting to happen. The brakes squeaked & when pressing the pedal to stop, the pedal went almost to the floor. The transmission is shot and makes the vehicle even worse on gas consumption than normal. The steering wheel is turned to the left which means the front end is out of alignment. The windshield was never cleaned from the previous rental. It had dead bug smears all over, on both sides. And the absolute best part was that when you got to 55-60 miles an hour the van shook so bad I thought I was going to lose control and that the back of the vehicle was going to shake loose from the cab When I returned the vehicle I got the pleasure of telling all of this to a gentleman, whom I didn't get his name but I sure wish I would have, that is supposed to be in charge of the maintenance of the U-Haul vehicles. He was totally checked out from what I was telling him. He could have cared less about the condition of that moving van. In fact, he told me that the 26' moving vans have a governor on them and they shouldn't go over 55 miles an hour. Guess the governor was broke too. I could get it to 60 miles an hour but no more than that. I wasn't or never have been told that the 26' vans can't go over 55 miles an hour. I rented one from Dover, TN and drove it to Indiana, fully loaded, and drove it at 70 miles an hour and you couldn't even tell you were driving such a large vehicle. Maybe his attitude was due to me being female and knowing a good bit about vehicles. Or maybe he just doesn't care. Whatever the reason, if you are renting a 26' moving van from the U-Haul on 81st Street in Merrillville and it is vehicle #JH-2824B, be warned if this vehicle has not been serviced, you are in for a ride of your life and not in a good way
Mary B.Need to train employees, need to improve technology for after hours services and arrange after hours tech support. If live support made available that will be much helpful. I struggled two hours to check out online and remained unsuccessful and was totally blind about the problem. What ever error the app was indicating that was not right.

uchenna N.The location and service there were excellent, but the experience when booking through UHaul was a ridiculous waste of time. My pick up location changed from Valparaiso to Lake Station, and the truck size also changed. Then I changed the ruck size back to the intended size at Lake Station only to then receive a notice the next day to pick up in Valparaiso (my preferred location). The day after I received a notice to pick up at Merrillville, but my online receipt still said Valparaiso. I wasted about 12 hours calling the different locations and waiting on hold on the primary UHaul phone line (which no one ever answered). To summarize, the Valparaiso, Lake Station, and Merrillville locations provided outstanding service and responded to my calls. However, the booking through UHaul made me never want to use UHaul again.

Someone else rented the unit and put my name on it, without my permission, I assume as an emergency contact. Melissa Chavez rented this unit. I helped her with the unit rent one time and the next thing you know, im the main name on the unit and it's my responsibility. I helped for a while because I didn't want her to lose her things. By summer this year, I was done being responsible for things that weren't even mine. I told them to take my name off the unit. They called and said they couldn't because there was still a lock on the unit. I said it's not my lock, not my problem. So for any further assistance with this unit, please contact Melissa Chavez, and send her the bill. The unit was always supposed to be under her name, never mine…I don't know how it was even ever made into my problem.

And when I called to make a claim they said that bugs is not covered I had to leave my washer, dryer and refrigerator because of all the bugs thank God my new place had a three. That was in September of 2019 and they kept calling me asking me did I want pay for my things. Now it's September of 2022 and I get this email to rate them sad and I worked for U-Haul before in WI. As a former employee I couldn't believe how I was treated.

Employees and owner don't solve your issues they just send you to customer service the. Customer service says they can't do anything. I didn't even move in and haven't received a refund or an email from the owner about my unit and the process to get out of the unit I never used. Moving is already hard this experience made it harder for me.

I had to throw half of my furniture away. I have several pictures of my damaged furniture and a leaking wall in my unit. The insurance policy is BOGUS. I expect a refund for my damaged furniture and will be sending a detailed complaint to U-Haul. I will NEVER rent a storage unit from U-Haul again and will advise everyone to stay away.
