I reserved a trailer for pick up in Providence, RI. I received a text the day before pick up to say my equipment would be available in North Smithfield, RI. I called the reservations and scheduling number for U-haul and confirmed the trailer would be in N. Smithfield. After arriving 10 mins to 7AM I was helped by Tom at N. Smithfield who told be the trailer was not available and I would need to go to Newport, RI to pick it up. I was also told by Tom that I would receive a $50 coupon in my email to use as a result of the inconvenience. Unfortunately, Tom would not print and give me the coupon for the $50 credit, nor did I ever receive an email for the coupon. I did receive the email for the changed location of the trailer pick up. The trailer was available in Newport, RI but it was very inconvenient to have to get the trailer in Newport, RI.

Please update your computer system at the Newport location. The gentleman who helped us was wonderful, but the computer system was so dated, it took almost a half hour to pay for the rental. The card reader kept freezing! Next. We rented an enclosed trailer because of the predicted rain. We were moving furniture we didn’t want to get wet. Imagine our dismay when we got home after a four hour drive and found our furniture wet on the tops. It was only then that we realized there was a small hole (about 3/4 inch) in the roof that let the rain leak all over our furniture. When my husband dropped off the trailer, he mentioned the problem. The gentleman at the Westwood NJ shop told my husband” That isn’t my equipment. Call customer service.” Needless to say, we were very disappointed in his response. I believe we are entitled to a partial refund for this renta

Brand new van was awesome. The manager is very nice and accommodating. Drop off after hours very confusing the online check in wasn't working and I called in twice to speak with customer service . The second mentioned the online drop doesn't work at my location however there is a sign for it asking me to use it. Everything else was excellent!

What the U-Haul website promises and what the local U-Haul location delivers do not match. I say this based on 2 separate rentals at 2 locations. When reserving the Van online, I also reserved pads, a utility dolly, an appliance dolly, and a furniture dolly. The U-Haul website said these items would already be in the truck when I picked it up. They were not. I called the number listed on the U-Haul website, and the lady I spoke with said I needed to go in the store for those items, but the website indicated clearly that I should not have to do that. When I picked up the accessories inside the store, I relayed my frustration. The counter person made un-complimentary comments about U-Haul. When I returned my rental, I reiterated my complaints and frustration, and the counter person (different from the first one) made it right by crediting my accessories. Overall, I am satisfied by the experience, because the rental van was *very* nice, and the staff person on the return end satisfied my complaints. However, there needs to be better communication and/or coordination of rental requests. My suggestion is that you "flag" the accessory rentals in such a way that the local store will see them first, and list the accessory rentals in such a way that they cannot be overlooked by the local store's counter people.

Ian is the nicest guy I’ve ever met while renting from U-HAUL. He truly is into his job and helping his customers. It was the second time I walked in and noticed he was dealing with a line and phone calls by himself. He works hard and maintains a low stress environment.

Only if you fix your staffing issues. That man was left to run the store AND install my hitch. He was courteous and professional but completely overwhelmed by phone calls and customers. It was busy! My install took 3 1/2 hours as a result. There were three guys there when I arrived at 3pm. They promptly left and left this guy on his own. He told me that it happens to him all the time. You have known I would be there for two weeks. Obviously, you don't schedule for your appointments. With all of the interruptions, I hope my hitch is installed properly. The guy isn't superman and I don't expect him to be. He's human. Mistakes happen when you overwhelm someone to that extent. I'll be renting two trailers and a truck in the next month. I sure hope you folks get it together. Your customers deserve better.

The manager went above and beyond to help us. This facility did not have the U-Haul trailer we needed. He drove out clear across the state and picked one up for us from another U-Haul location. This is NOT part of his job description. He just wanted to take good care of his customers. He then hooked the trailer up to our car and tested everything out to make sure it all worked. Absolutely top notch!!! Thank you for everything, we greatly appreciate it!!!

Larry was so professional and patient. A great worker for U-Haul. I didn't rate the experience excellent because the company of U-Haul needs to up grade their computers. I was there in the morning and he was having trouble with the computer with another costumer and then when I came back in the afternoon he had the same problems with me. It took half an hour with him finally finishing with me because of the computer (something that should have taken 5 minutes). He was the only one working and running around doing everything. Keep him and ditch the computer, a hard copy of the units would have been faster. I just hope this comment gets to the upper management. Roberta Conti

When a customer rents a particular truck size then the truck size should be at that location. I was asked to change truck sizes which made my move impossible to do in one trip. The representative did offer great customer service but don't offer reservations if you can't keep them.

the return your truck after hours option is terrible. the app doesnt work well at all, amd it took me 45 mins to finally log into the right website after hearing yet another website address to go to to do it from the automated recording while on hold to the customer service center.

I went to drop off a Uhaul that was received by me in dirty condition, the person at the counter didn't want to hear anything about it, he refused to listen to anything I said. I froze my card that was on file as soon as he walked outside to "inspect" the truck, and sure enough, received a notification saying "transaction declined, due to a frozen debit card from uhaul Newport" he actually tried to charge my card without my permission at all, this place is beyond unprofessional. I called corporate immediately and they said they would launch and investigation on everything so I decided not to leave a review, but I just got ANOTHER notification saying the same thing, they tried to charge me AGAIN, luckily I'm not a fool, and I left that card frozen and ordered another one. I'll be contacting the BBB and pursuing reparations, unbelievable company, that they allow this to occur.

All three men that I dealt with at this location and the Middletown, RI location were wonderful, helpful, courteous, etc. There was a problem with the bill for the car hauler (the computer was charging me $200 more than expected and it took 1 1/2 hours to get it fixed. Corporate U-Haul needs to give the individual owners/workers more leeway in fixing issues. It was ridiculous for me to get delayed by that amount of time because of a computer problem. They also charged me for insurance a second time, because apparently the top level insurance I bought to cover the truck was not enough to also cover the trailer ??? But the men remained calm and did their best and eventually fixed the problem. The man in Middletown did not have the bigger size truck that I had figured out I needed. But he sent me right on over to Newport and was super friendly about it.

If your going to have 4 people on staff at one location why do you only have 1 person working with the customers. I have rented here before and this is probably the last time I will use this location. There is a second location nearby I will be using from now on. It is actually sickening to see what a waste of time and Uhauls money to have that many employees. You should honestly send in a secret shopper to see how lousy it is.

Reserved and paid for furniture dolly which was not included. Prepaid for truck online yet they charged us again when we picked up. Reserved and paid for moving service which never showed up and U-Haul said they aren't responsible for that and couldn't help, despite the fact the service was available and paid for on their website. Will never use U-Haul again and will definitely not recommend to others. Better options exist.

Rented a small box trailer. It was full of moving blankets that we had to store while we used the trailer. The attendant also forgot about us and we waited for sometime when hitching the trailer for him to check it. We had to go find him and found him chatting with a coworker. Not a big deal but not what you would expect.
