I went to two other locations and both of them where disastrous. The first place on Clarkson avenue , where I originally place my reservation, disregarded me after the told me that my truck did not return from the previous customer. I did not receive any type of communication, that my truck was not going to be there. They sent me to another location on kings hwy and told me they had a truck for me. But kings hwy could not accommodate me, so I went back to Clarkson location , and he referred me to a 1800 number that I had to call several times because the operator wait was 30 minutes and she kept connecting me to other people who where not available and went straight to a voice mail. 4th avenue location was very professional and well organized unlike the two other locations.

Greg S. | Online Move InSince there is no other place to put this, I'll leave the feedback here. The pick up and drop off went very well and I have no complaints. The online experience was abysmal. I asked for insurance when I created my order, but it did not appear when the order went through. I called the Uhaul support line and they said they couldn't add it, that it could only be added at the desk of the pick up. I was going after hours, so I couldn't add at pick up. They said I could add on the app. I was unable to download a working version of the app onto my iPhone SE. We had to download onto my wife's iPhone X and enter my username and password there. There was still no clear way to buy insurance. I finally called the office of the location where I was picking up and they added the insurance over the phone. I got a notice from Uhaul that I could get a free trailer with my order. I didn't respond to the offer, but it was communicated to the pick up location that I did want a trailer, so I had to cancel that with them. Because I was picking up after hours I needed a code to the lock box where the key was kept. I asked a number of times how I was supposed to get the code, but no one seemed very sure. One person speculated that the app would recognize when we arrived because of the location services associated with it and send it automatically. That did not happen. Luckily, the employees at the pick up location left the key for us in another location where we were able to get it without the code. At drop off the individual receiving the truck and I tried to check the truck in on the Uhaul website, but neither of us was able to do so successfully because the website kept routing us to the wrong page. Again, the pick up and drop off went great and they employees on the ground were helpful, friendly and competent. The online experience needs a lot of improvement.

Javier C.I would have rated this excellent and my issue isn't with the staff or location. I fueled the truck to full in New Jersey to avoid the fuel costs in New York and also to save time. I didn't use as much of it as I anticipated and it costs me about $80 for the half tank as it was already at half a tank at pick up. I feel that if I'm charged almost $8 a gallon if I return the truck below half a tank it would be reasonable to be compensated if I return the truck with almost a full tank for whatever the difference may be, this may not be a big deal to some folks but a gallon of gas is more than the minimum wage in some places, like New Jersey. That is all, take care.

The staff at the location seemed indifferent, but it took longer than expected to go through the phone prompts to verify mileage and previous damage (about 30 min from arriving to leaving), but no major issues.

I had originally booked to pick up the U-Haul at another location, however, I received a notification a week prior that the location had changed. On the day that I arrived to the new location (1143 Clarkson Avenue) - very early in the morning, mind you - I was told that U-Haul did not have my reserved vehicle for me. I had to contact customer service ASAP as I was on a deadline. From there, the location changed again to the 394 4th Ave address. I received no prior notification that the address had changed and had to waste my entire morning running around the city to find this new location. It was an unexpected ordeal that totally ruined the moving day experience.

My reservation was canceled and I did not receive notification well after I left the location. No call and the email arrived nearly 2 hours after I left. The customer service was poor the majority of the time and too lengthy to put into words on here. I get it the customer service folks are there to assist and not to blame but when people get an attitude after the day I had with UHaul and act the problem is not of their concern, then there is something wrong if they are your frontline folks.

I would have given 5 stars …however I hold back 1 star cause I feel there is still room for improvement of the U-haul truck share app. Especially for those picking up in the evening. The checking of van is difficult cause there isn't adequate lighting where customers pick up van. Making it very difficult to do proper inspection of van. Both outside and inside. Also the van i picked up felt and sounded like it could do with servicing. I can honestly say it was the worse i have been given. I would have happily requested a replacement if there was a rep around. The engine sounded loud.

A+ Lastly, I did experience some problems with the card reader in the elevators. At times it would not recognize my information even though I had already checked in. In the final analysis, your products are great, convenient, and very much needed. Moving is so stressful, moving in a time crunch is a nightmare. Checking emails is not a priority during the moving process. Anything that can make the experience easier and less stressful, goes a long way.

LINDA V. | Expérience généraleOverall I can't really complain. But for the sake of suggestions for how the process could be improved, I have three things to note. (1) In terms of unit sizes, my unit was a bit too small for what I needed, but there was no way for me to know that when deciding what size unit to get. I got a 5'x5'x8' unit, and it was labeled as "studio, one or two rooms." The stuff I was storing could fit in a small guest sized bedroom, or in a little corner of a studio apartment, so I thought I would be fine with the 5'x5'x8' unit. It was just a bit too small. Some more accurate information on the front end would be helpful to allow people to know what size unit they need without having to undertake in a trial-and-error process. (2) When I made the storage reservation, the website info told me I'd need to supply my own lock, but it did not specify that a particular type of lock was needed. So I brought my own padlock, but when I checked in, I was told I specifically needed a disc lock, so I had to buy one there and incur yet another unexpected charge (a common theme in the world of moving). I understand that the disc locks are stronger than standard padlocks, but I should still be able to choose what lock I use as long as it fits on the unit door, and just deal with the additional risk that comes with using a slightly less durable lock. (3) The alarm. When I started moving stuff into my unit (after I had officially swiped my security card to check in and disarm the unit), an alarm started going off and I didn't know why. I eventually discerned that the alarm probably sounds if something is blocking the doorway of the unit for a certain amount of time. This was never explained or cautioned ahead of time, which is never a cool thing to spring on an unsuspecting customer. It's also just not a sensible security feature to install. When I'm trying to squeeze so much stuff into such a small unit (see point #1 above), I can't stand inside of the unit and also load everything into it while I'm standing there, so naturally I need to stand in the doorway while playing storage unit Tetris for an hour and a half (actual time it took me to arrange my stuff in a way so that everything would fit). That alarm feature for merely standing in the doorway, or having an object in the doorway while I'm actively trying to load the unit, should either be removed altogether, disarmed while people are actively filling the unit, or at the very least, there should be a warning about that feature in the paperwork ahead of time and/or there should be signs notifying people that a super obnoxious alarm will sound if they dare to try loading their own storage unit while having the audacity to stand with just one foot directly below the open unit door.
