The only minor snag is that it wasn't immediately clear that the office was not co-located with where the vehicles were kept - the vehicles are parked in a car wash while the office is across the street in a supermarket. People notice the vehicles, not a small sign in a supermarket window. I had to hunt for an employee at the car wash who could tell me where to go to sign out a vehicle.

DAVID RI've used this location a few times over the years. Unintuitive check-in process, small parking lot, and no one on-site to help (you have to talk to the folks at the grocery store across the street for support).
Veekas AThe U-Haul app is good for booking, but completely worthless for vehicle pickup without in person support. The reference checks requested (contact, employer, passport, lease) are both unnecessary (none of this is required when going to a service desk to pick up a car) and impractical (how is calling my chosen reference any sort of check, even if I remembered my employers phone number no one is around to pick up the phone at 7am, I don't have my passport on me, I don't have a lease, etc.). If this stuff is truly required, you have to prompt users to complete these steps BEFORE going to pick up the truck (the in app instructions for pick up specifically start with "go to the vehicle location before any of this stuff is requested). There's no reason I couldn't complete this stuff days in advance. Other issues with the app: 1) for the passport confirmation, you should allow upload of an existing photo, not require taking a new photo (this required me to leave the rental site to get my physical passport to then take a pic of it, could have avoided this if I could have just uploaded a photo I already had), 2) some bugs: a) when I finally was able to provide two confirmations (contact and passport) with the app thanking me for providing and saying "click continue to proceed", clicking "continue" went nowhere in the app, b) when I attempted to use the chat to resolve this, my sent messages wouldn't even show up in the chat window, so I couldn't get any help. All of the above combined led me to being about an hour delayed in my all day move. I ended up having to wait for the service location to open so I could speak to a person to get access to the van I had rented. Once I could speak to someone at the service location, it all went smoothly. Bottom line: the 24/7 self pick up process needs some serious reworking, or you should scrap it / stop marketing it.

CHANDRA DDropping after hours here was difficult as there were VERY few places we felt the vehicle could fit and it was such a small place. It would have been helpful to have a bit more guidance for where to park the truck vs. "don't block entrances" as there were also cars parked within the area and we had a hard time making sure we weren't blocking any cars, either. Otherwise, the Uhaul app is efficient, a bit difficult to take photos of all the things after dark.

Bryan RThere was a piece of bread on the floor and the passenger and driver seats were filthy. I had to use Clorox disinfectant wipes to wipe down both seats so I could drive comfortably and also place my purse & backpack on the passenger's seat. The knob to roll up and roll down the window was broken on the driver's side.
Vivian OThe truck itself was fine. My issue pertains to pickup and drop off. I don't know what the algorithm is but I live near a major UHaul in Hempstead yet it states there are no 16' trucks. I drove by on my day of rental and there are at least 10 on the lot including the advertising one. So I have to make a reservation at Jericho instead which is fine, only to have them change my reservation late the afternoon before. Some people do not have the means nor time to go 15-30 miles out of their way. They accommodated by sending me to a neighborhood partner. Upon calling location they refused to even say they were a UHaul participant. Even your own rep called and they said they don't do UHaul rentals... But I went and they did have the truck. Similarly the return was at another UHaul neighborhood location. There were no UHaul reps when returning. Employees of the other business there told me to park the truck in a random lot across the street but I refused. There were zero spots in drop off lot and lot across street. 2 calls to your corporate later and even your own employees are frustrated as they cannot reach local staff. Finally after 30+ mins of maneuvering a large truck in tight confines I was able to return. Headache on both pickup and return. Also this trend of farming out customer service is terrible, it is impossible to speak to a person at a local branch directly. Even your own call center can't reach the local branch as evidenced here at both locations. I have specific questions for both branches and it takes 5x as long to get an answer. I used UHaul only because of the locations, if there was any other choice I would've chosen it.

davis mI would just let someone know in advance that they need to go into Key Food (and not the Car Wash) to get the key/show your license (if you are not doing it via the mobile app).

Thomas JThe vehicle outside, cab, and cargo hold were all dirty. The cab looked and smelled like it had not been cleaned in months. There was popcorn on the cab floor, ashes in the ash tray, and dry cat or dog food in the back of the truck along with other small parts/pieces of a prior user's cargo.

Sebastian LThe guy working at the location was great. 5 stars. Your damn app gets 0 stars. I have been renting from you for 20 years and this U-Haul account is 4 years old. I rented from you earlier this year on a long distance rental (where you tried to up the rate on me at the 11th hour.) So today I walk all the way down to the pickup location after making an online reservation and then, only then, you suddenly need additional documentation that would have required me to walk home a mile. My driver license was already on file. If that wasn't good enough you should have said something then. Next time, I will take *any* alternative over U-Haul, including just buying my own truck.
David JPlease make check-in easier and faster. If I use my phone to check in I shouldn't have to wait on a live rep to approve and let me in. And it often crashed and froze on me.

Stephen lRenting the truck was great. The gentleman "Mo" was great. We had agreed I would return the truck on 7/2/22 at 2:00 PM, but we overlooked that the return time on the contract was 10:00 AM. On 7/2/22, At 10:28 AM, I received a telephone call from a very nasty and rude person from the following number +1 (845) 242-0216. The gentleman demanded I bring the truck over immediately and kept berating me about not being responsible. I explained to this gentleman the agreement I thought Mo and I had agreed to. The gentleman didn't seem to care about what I was saying and continued to be very nasty. Having to deal with this man's rudeness was a very unpleasant experience. I believe he mentioned something about being a manager with your agency. If this is the case not sure how he got to that position with the way he spoke to me.

Kennedy OThe customer service was fine - quick and professional, and the van was in very good shape. HOWEVER I am entirely unhappy with UHaul. The advertised price for the van was $19.99. I only rented it for FOUR HOURS, without insurance, and ended up being charged over $140!!!? This is an outrageous price for such a short rental. It is also a complete bait and switch. Based on this experience I will not be using UHaul again any time soon.
Patrick TFrom the start at pickup the key was not in the correct box. Wasted 1 hour to realize truck key was in the back of the truck. No hand truck or pads as requested. Truck had less then a quarter tank so I had to fuel up wasting more time
Daniel VThe checkin process didn't work while using Chrome on my phone. The "location" functionality did not work as expected. It was only after reviewing the "help" page did I realize the app was only developed/tested on Safari. I switched to Safari and it worked. As a software engineer specializing in UI development, I would call that user experience lame.
Christopher mThey charged me almost a hundred in gas , I brought it back early , I live down the block , and moved 50 feet over , gas , plus a service fee , when I put 10 bucks in , it was below empty when I got it

Christian AThe tires were bald, there were summer tires on a huge truck in the winter. We couldn't back out of the driveway, we were stuck. We also slid around the entire ride. Tire maintenance needs to be prioritized.

Lisa WThe 15ft truck that I had reserved was not available due to the previous customer returning late. The U-Haul representative at the site worked to find us a replacement. Eventually we decided on a 10ft and that was able to handle the apartment move, with a little help from two SUV's. How can you ensure that the reserved truck is available at the pick up site? Maybe leave more time between rentals?
