Agents need to be professional not unruly to customers. Explain questions asked by customers to the best if their knowledge . Agent was confrontational and very uncooperative. The truck was parked so close to another van I had to get help backing out. The rear view mirrors not set in a way that anyone could see out of. Tools were needed to adjust the mirrors and I did not have them so I had to drive blind. Plus the app wasn't working to check-in and take pictures so I got over charged for gas.Katherine I.
When I arrived at the location's parking lot at Pious Petroleum, I had completed the online check-in while in my car and paid on my phone the amount of 148,17 $ (99 $flat + insurance + fees and tax) When I went into the gas station to retrieve the keys, the attendant, Nick Patel, said I had not paid yet and didn't complete the check-in. I informed him that I had just completed the check-in in the parking lot and had paid minutes prior to entering the gas station, and I had verified my completed check-in by showing him the confirmation message on my phone. He then saw that I did infact pay 148,17 $, but he then proceeded to write up a new estimate totaling 383,65 $. Obviously I inquired about the new estimate since I had previously agreed to a deal for 99 $flat with 200 miles included, plus insurance and tax. He gave a very nonsensical explanation about in-town versus one-way trucks; I and my friend felt he was trying to scam for more money. He informed me that he would deduct the prepaid amount of 148,17 $ from the new estimate, and that he was not able to honor the original price on his end. He said the only way he can honor the original price was to have uhaul customer service override the price on their end, so I called uhaul's 1800 number and waited several minutes to be connected to a representative. The representative asked to speak to the gas station attendant and they argued back and forth. The customer service agent over the phone was advocating for me and seemed to also be confused as to why the gas station attendant was changing my order. She told him that if he was not able to provide me a truck under the conditions that I originally agreed to, that he should have informed uhaul sooner so that I could've been directed to another location. Frustrated and already way behind schedule, I asked the agent on the phone if she could help me find another uhaul location with an available truck I could pick up immediately. Overhearing me, it was then that the gas station attendant asked to speak to the agent on my phone, he told her he did not want to waste any more of the customer's time and due to the fact that it was the Uhaul system's fault (a statement that the call agent disagreed with), he was going to provide me a discount that would bring my total cost down to the originally agreed upon amount. I feel strongly that he only intervened because I was about to leave to find another location. When charging me, he applied a discount that brought the price down, however I was charged an additional tax amount, and had to pay another 14,65 $. I believe the original amount of 148,17 $ that I paid already included taxes. Charging double tax is illegal. Needlessly to say, I am very upset at the entire experience. I wasted so much time going back and forth with the attendant, my movers' time was wasted as well, and we were put behind schedule resulting in being stuck in lots of traffic. On top of all that, I was also double taxed. I am requesting a full refund. If no refund is applied, I will be contacting my credit card company to file a charge back.Jennifer T.
This place is a joke! I don't think you should allow rentals here. My uhaul phone app wasn't working and the manager did not speak any english and was being very rude! He didn't even want to speak with the uhaul rep I had on the phone. If it wasn't for every other place being booked up I would have left and not rented here! The pick up process is not possible to do entirely through your phone as the keys are located inside. The processing inside takes a bit of time. It would be great if this could be moved to completely via mobile, especially during COVID times.monika R.

Employers barely speak English. They had me wait to sell cigarettes to customers since it's also a gas station store. The person who assisted me after I begged them to help me was on his phone and the tow wasn't properly install ending in damaging the rental property according to the pick up location and a fine was paid. This location should close indefinitely. Merci.Nikolas K.
I had tk worst experience with the truck and location. Truck smelled like cigarettes and cigars. Upon pick up the gas level was below the mentioned level on the record. When i tried to take the truck back with the same level, the attendant who happend to work in that gas station told me i should put 5 bucks more in the tank to get the initial level. He then told me that it wasnt enough and had me put 10 more bucks. This was when i was returning the truck AFTER i had already put previous gas in. After the 10 dollars it was already way over and i just spent extra money for nothing. I even took videos/phoyos of everything from the beginning and end of the rental but was not assisted properly. Worst customer service, worst location and worst uhaul experience to date.Edwin R.

The person at the convenience store counter was very helpful. We originally attempted to log in with the 24/7 mobile experience which was terrible. It did not adequately explain how to turn on location services, it required 2 alternate contacts for a total of 4 phone numbers on the account (excessive). It loaded the same page multiple times and required a picture of the drivers license again (after we had already uploaded it during our original reservation). We ended up going inside to transact the staff at the location and this was much smoother. There was no line, he was able to pull up our information right away and he came outside to take pictures of the van conditions we brought to his attention.Jesse H.
I am actually became a regular customer of U-haul in this month. I have Gotten a rental from two other location near Concord and they were great. I am sorry for giving a bad review. I actually feel bad saying thing but I would not recommend this location to anyone. I drove to this location from concord which is 35 min drive because I wanted this rental urgently so that I could make it on time. first I was expecting self checkout by going there and going through your U-Haul share site. I watched video and all info there and I don't see any place that I could click on or go to get the box code. I went into the gas station and all the keys are hanging behind the counter. Waited for someone to who could check able to help me. The guy came out form back room and it took him 20 to 25 min to short before i actually got a key in my hand. It was like I am making a complete new reservation and nothing that I booked on phone mattered. It was hard to understand what he was saying. After I received a key for van I went to do walk around for any damages and to confirm mileage and gas. I come back took a pic of mileage and gas showed him and he said half tank gas. I am showing him it less the half he insisted on half tank. I just wanted to go so I can try and make it on time. I come back for return it took me 30 min to return my rental van due to a costumer ahead of me had to go through the same problems that i went through that morning. When i finally return that van I found out that some how somewhere i got charged 20 $extra for I selecting damage waiver that I had no knowledge off choosing. in my past rental, I never had choose that Option because I have my insurance to cover. I am genuinely sorry for this awful review but I think it was necessary for a company's interest to train their employees properly.Bilal H.
This place is a poor representation of your company. The first location, where I had a reservation, on MacArthur BLVD by MacArther Bart station, did actually have the truck, but made the reservation anyway. The only reason I found about about this fact is because I went by the day before my reservation to make sure. Don't make a reservation for a 15 foot truck of you don't have one. This is my primary grievance. I don't fault Uhaul for the neighborhood in which a contractor is located, but I will likely not use uhaul in the future due to my experience on this trip at both locations on Foothill and at MacArthur. I would be highly concerned as a company about the 4280 Foothill location representing your brand.Nicholas E.

I've been an UHaul customer for many years and always was receiving great service, having no hustle rent/return transaction. My recent experience with Pious Petroleum LLC 4280 Foothill Bl in Oakland was something else. Trouble started during the return. They repeatedly tried to charge me extra amount of money and acted super unprofessional. I had to spend 1hr and 15 min ( between 10pm and 11:15 pm) in there while the clerk was making mistake after mistake with closing my contract and ended up overcharging my credit card for over 250 $. He was on the phone multiple times and serving other customers of the gas station while neglecting me and not respecting my time (The counter is inside the gas station). I offered multiple times to do a self check out over the phone app but my request was denied every time. On top of that most of the customers coming in were not waring face mask ( although it is a REQUIREMENT in the State of CA). Employees were not wearing their face covering properly as well - exposing nose and only covering their mouths. I feel that my health was endangered in the circumstances that were created in this location. Also one of the employees made photos of my credit card on his private phone - front and back!! This is a violation of privacy and my financial information security. I later said he will delete images but I am not sure he did. They promised to fix the billing error but they never did. I had to call Uhaul customer service the next day and the error was luckily fixed but without any assistance from this location employee or the owner. I insist UHAUL headquarters will take disciplinary measures against this location as it clearly not representing the UHAUL Brand values to treat customers with respect and act professionally.Natalia T.

Firstly, I had booked the trailer from another location and was only told about the change when I arrived to pick up my trailer. When I checked in the agent said, "The trailer is in the back." Didn't offer to show me how to hook it up, or offer any help at all other than swiping my credit card. Charged me for insurance without asking, even though I had unchecked that option when I booked online. When I went out to collect the trailer it had garbage inside it, including a used syringe. I wish I could include the photos I took. Very, very poor "service!"mo S.
The location is marketed as a location with contactless pick up. However, customers are actually required to obtain the keys in the gas station. U-Haul and the location failed to give me accurate info as to how to get the keys, and it was more or less chance that I figured out how this location operates. Also, the van was not very clean on the inside (clearly someone had used it with very dirty shoes and no clean up happened between me and the previous customer).Lukas D.

My rental was not there at my reservation time. It was over an hour late. When it did get there I asked for it to be wiped down and Sam told me he didn't do that. When I asked for cleaning supplies he didn't give me anything to wipe it down. I had to purchase items to use to clean the steering wheel. The truck was extremely dirty on top of that.NATALIE P.
Your personnel accepted my trailer without any issues but wanted me to backup the trailer into a somewhat difficult spot due to the lack of space at the facility as vehicles were driving in and out of their gas station. It was a hassle for me to ultimately end up with the 4x8 size trailer that I had reserved weeks in advance. The location and size had both changed due to availability (of which I was notified with only a couple days notice, despite my very early reservation) -- the size to a 5x8 which would have been much too large for my belongings and unnecessarily gas-guzzling to tow, and the location to one that was an hour further away from my apartment. It was only with substantial interactions over the phone with UHaul that I was able to locate an available desired 4x8 trailer, which ended up being closer to my apartment than the 5x8 offered to me. The pickup and dropoff ended up going smoothly after that, but the last-minute scramble and non-transparency despite my early planning was not appreciated and added stress to my already logistic-full cross-country move.Elizabeth B.

The gas tank cap was missing on the van we rented and this was not discovered until we were en route to our destination. This resulted in the 1/4 tank of gas going to empty and we had to fill the tank. Web activation by phone didn't work; customer support at two levels couldn't get it to work and 2nd tire support finally admitted that I was the second instance that she has to assist without success this morning. The people that works there's is so unprofessional an so Rude I'm a young African American women an was getting me for my money I ask for a one way n nick told me I couldn't do so in I had to turn the car n at 830pm I told him I'm moving all the way to Sacramento so it takes me a min ?? Soo not happy I called customer service and they filled a complaint .. so when I get back to Oakland foothill U-Haul the guy that works there put an extra 100 on it I paid 305 $they took 318 $from me n tried to take another 100 $from me I ask him his name he said nick smiling but his tag had Sam on it he gave me the wrong number for customer service he gave me there number so while I'm calling there phone stop wringing he thought it was a joke .. Soo I called customer service again an file complaint .. I'm Soo not happy I got the U-Haul an it wasn't on half so I had to fill it up to go out to sac n full it back up to get back to Oakland. Please make sure the truck is clean, both inside the cab and in the cargo area. Also, if there is difficulty checking-in the client, please respond when the client asks if there is a problem. It took the clerk over a half an hour to get me checked in even after I registered online. After 20 mins. of him conferring on FaceTime or something with someone who was helping him with the transaction, and him repeatedly trying to run my credit card, (whose number I had to tell him not to call out, out loud in the store, as he was starting to do) ; I asked him twice if there was a problem that I could help with, and he did not respond. AT. ALL. Also, I would have liked if he had worn gloves while handling my credit card and driver's license. He wiped his nose on the back of his hand during the course of our transaction! On the plus side, they did give me a very large grace period to return the truck since it took them so long to check me in. I know these are stressful times, but I think they can do better.Jeannine H.

I was extremely disappointed with this U-haul experience. First, the website let me book a reservation at a location in Alameda that wasn't open on Sundays. My understanding was that I could use some sort of self service to obtain the vehicle. When I get to the location they're of course closed and it ate up an hour of my reservation time. I called the help line and was on hold for 15 minutes before someone could help me. I was credited 50 dollars but and a manager made another reservation for me at a different location so that I can pick up a u-haul, except she reserved me a truck and all I wanted was a van. I did't find this out until I got to the new location and he told me the reservation was a truck, not a van. He didn't seem to know how or want to change the reservation to the van. We ended up sticking with the truck because at this point it's almost 2 hours past when I was supposed to start moving things. The truck was gross and it smelled like homeless people had been living in there. I'm really unhappy with this entire experience. The website should have never let me book at a place that was closed if it was going to be an issue to be able to pick up the truck. The manager should have checked with me the type of vehicle. I didn't want to drive a truck, I rented a van for a reason. The vehicle rented was disgusting.cody parks B.

The rental is at a gas convenient store. I reserved on line then went to the store to pick it up. Upon pick up I had to speak to a man on the phone who stated I needed to have insurance. I told him it was optional and I had declined it when I did my online reservation. He stated my insurance did not cover it. He never asked about my insurance coverage. He further stated if I refused he would not rent the van. Also the man working in the store stated it's only 10,00 $, that's not the point. For me 10,00 $ is my money. I contacted Uhaul to fill a claim and they stated the insurance is optional. This is a scam by this store and the represent Uhaul. They should not be allowed to do business. Check in and check out was effortless and quick. Big plus is that this location is 24-hours. Light in the back of the truck did not work, and there was a little bit of trash in the cabin of the truck, but otherwise it served it's purpose. If we have to move again, will definitely use U-haul again.Cameron G.

My reservation was transferred to another location 6hrs prior to pickup. The location we picked up from was also a gas station & grocery store with basically 1 person working. Language barriers & it took close to 1hr to complete the pre-arranged rental process. The cargo van was very dirty with the smell of animal crap in the back. There was no back license plate, the cargo barrior between the front seats & back was removed, & there was garbage left behind from the previous user. I booked a box truck and confirmed a location on san pablo which was close to where i needed the truck. I took an Uber there but when i got there i was told that the location had changed last minute to foothill blv so i had to take another uber to the second location. The man helping me kept having to interupt the transaction to help his gas station customers setting me back for my pickup. The back of the truck stank and was sticky and the gas cap was missing causing an alarm to constantly go off.Kean L.

U-Haul was missing both dollies and mattress pads that I was charged for. Representatives would not address my concerns, continuously saying there was nothing they could do. One of the representatives aware of the missing items at the time of pick up as I notified him and asked if he had any extra dollies onsite. To which he responded yes and provided me with the back up Dolly. The very same representative was on site when I was returning the rental and he maintained it that he didn't remember this morning's encounter. Not only was a charge for services I did not receive but I also had to spend 20 minutes on site disputing the charge amount for the items that I did receive. The representatives attempted to charge me twice the amount for the daily rental than what I agreed to when reserving it online. I will never return to this U-Haul location and if I am not refunded the amount for services I did not receive, I won't be using UHaul's moving services in the future.ROWYDA R.
There is not much you can do. The operators of the facility were competent but not expert. Not really their fault, they sell a lot of gas and food. The location is in a sketchy part of Oakland (I think all the Oakland locations open on Sunday are). The van was a good van. Nothing wrong with it, and it had only 7 000 miles on it. However, going to a gas station where they are selling lots of things made me have to wait an unreasonable amount of time both to pick up and to drop off. I am not likely to use U-Haul again soon, just because I'm not doing a lot of moving. Next time I'll see if I can get a van from Alameda, but of course Alameda is closed. You need locations in better neighborhoods. I know the SF Bay Area is a challenge. But. you do need locations in better neighborhoods.Christian R.
Terrible experience: 1. Booked my truck in Alameda, which was supposed to be a 24/7 service. 2. As I arrive there I couldn't pick my truck using the app. I call customer service and they transferred my reservation to a different location in Oakland. 3. Location in Oakland was in a gas station, the person was in a break, I call customer service again, she says he should be there but he wasn't. 20m later he arrives, says that he couldn't find my reservation and after so many complications due to his very poor knowledge on U-hal system I could pick up my truck over 1 hour later. Not even mentioning the mileage on the contract was wrong and, also that I paid for insurance I told him I did not want to. Horrible.David G.
There were homeless people sleeping in the truck. It took 2 hours to clean it up and do all the paperwork, and we were charged for 2 rental periods because of the delay. Worth mentioning that our dispute was satisfied the same day. But we'll never use this location again.jimmy thong V.

Staff were helpful and polite. The Uhaul customer service rep I talked to for confirmation of my pickup was pleasant and professional. The confirmation and notification process needs significant improvement though. On my way to the confirmed pickup location I was texted a new location, which meant 40 minutes of unnecessary driving, and that my call to Uhaul was a waste of time, since that information was false. I'd rather be sent accurate updates, even if it says "it's not ready yet, sorry", than false info that wastes time and creates confusion and stress.Matt P.

The truck was dirty inside and out. There was trash from the previous user and the smell inside the truck was horrible. When we told the person that gave us the contract he told us not to worry that he will have the truck washed for the following customer. He didn't care that we had to use it in that condition. U-Haul called me two days before my move date to tell me there was no trailer available, despite making the reservation a week in advanced. We then had to scramble and drive two hours out of our way to pick up the nearest trailer. The day of our move, we realized the trailer had a flat. Thankfully it was just a nail in the center of the tire, an easy repair. The U-Haul location on White Lane in Bakersfield had two very uninformed workers who could not offer any help, and told us to wait "around an hour" for their manager to show up to work. We needed to make a long drive in one day and couldn't wait, so we ended up going to a Big Brand Tire across the street and pay for the repair ourselves. Overall this was a horrible experience and ended up costing us hundreds of dollars extra on travel/repair fees. I received about 20~ emails from U-Haul before and after my reservation, most of which contained the exact same information. How does U-Haul monopolize the rental trailer business and then not have any trailers available?Jestin K.
I reserved at a different location but was sent here after I arrived at the other location. It was a small mini store that smelled of fried food which permeated my clothes while I waited for the person to figure out how to rent the trailer to me. It took 45 minutes for him to figure out how to do it (meanwhile I'm waiting in the store as my clothes soaked up the fried food smell). Then the receipt for the rental was printed on a printer that needed an ink change as I could not read the receipt. Turns out the trailer was a 5' x 8' and not the 4' x 8' I reserved. After all that, I was left on my own to figure out how to maneuver my car around the small tight space of many cars and gas pumps to line my car up with the trailer and then I had to hook it up all by myself with no help for either of these. This was not the place I chose to rent from and it was not a good experience.Laurette C.
the u-haul operations person was great, but he was overwhelmed because the business simply doesn't have enough people manning the cash registers, and his internet connection kept dropping. As a result it took an hour to rent the truck. It was frustrating in spite of his efforts. On the other hand, the truck was excellent - almost new. This is contrary to my earlier experience with u-haul, which has not always been positive.Thomas K.

Oakland office' service was good, but I am not happy with U-HAUL in general. I had a bad experience last week with u-haul. My daughter made reservation by cell application for a truck to be received in Berkeley on Saturday 6/8 at 6:30 pm to move some furniture which we bought from different locations. when we reached Berkeley office, we couldn't get the truck because the application did not work and did not give us the code to get the truck keys. we suffered for more than an hour to get somebody that we can talk to in phone. They couldn't solve our problem but send us to Oakland to get a van instead. I had to drive half an hour to reach there. I had to cancel my first order for the truck and make a new order for the van. This is very bad. I had appointments with many people for buying their furniture. This delay put me in a critical situation. U-HAUL application is not good and you should do something about it. I had to drive extra 2 hours because of your bad application. From Berkeley to Oakland then return back to Berkeley , and I did this twice because your Oakland office did not accept to return the van in Berkeley, so I had to drive again to Oakland to return the van and go back to Berkeley In fact, for this tension,delay, and driving extra 2 hours (with gas fees), I should get my money back as a compensation to what happened. Not the best neighborhood and about a 20 minute walk from BART. I completed the check out via the app but staff then said they needed to do their own check out after I left? Staff then called me that evening to get the Uhaul provided lock code, they could have looked this up themselves since they are Uhaul collaborators or called corporate... The attendant gave me a different customer's contract/receipt to sign. I didn't notice until I was doing a final inspection of the fuel level and mileage that the customer name and vehicle fuel levels and mileage were wrong. Additionally, the back of the van was dirty and trash from the previous user was littered throughout the back of the van. This was a huge waste of fucking time. 1) the app didn't work for me to pick up the truck; 2) i was on hold for 20 minutes while waiting in the fucking dark for an HOUR between 9-10:30PM; 3) they told me THERE WAS NO TRUCK AVAILABLE FOR RENTAL AFTER I WAITED FOR A FUCKING HOUR, THE SECOND TIME I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE; 4) I had to uber over to another location which added 20 miles to what was initially planned, WHICH MEANS I HAD GO FUCKING PAY FOR THE EXTRA MILES USED. Next time, have the fucking car available for rental if that's what was promised in the agreement and actually LET PEOPLE KNOW BEFOREHAND IF ITS NOT AVAILABLE.Jeanie P.

Clean after each use. At the very least vacuum and wipe down the truck. I placed an order online and entered all the info via the reservation site to avoid delays in getting the truck upon arrival. It unfortunately takes them far too long to process a pre-existing order. The only good thing is the location. Its convenient for pick up. They could also use other UHAUL related items for rent such as dolly's and moving equipment.Larshelby D.
Charged 15 dollars in gas when I only traveled several blocks. Make sure to ask costumers to take their own photo of the gas meter befor to compare. Attendees appeared bothered and annoyed with U-Haul rentals. The company as a whole needs support in training employees and partners in working with the transgender community. Federal and state laws require non discrimination. As the Bay Area is full of these communities it would be great to offer staff a basic 101 on the topic. This is something I provide medical providers and non profits across the Bay Area . It is time that for profit also receives this information. State IDs will soon have a third non gendered option. The wait time was incredibly long because it is attached to a chicken joint. Should be a more separated area for customers coming in for just Uhaul service and because it had chicken services, the fryers made is extremely hot in the store.Kristine I.

Service staff did not know what they were doing. I entered all information the night before to expedite the process - still took 40 minutes. I was asked to walk out to check mileage and gas during this time. Staff wanted to sign out truck without walk-around or noting any damage. Indicated "I will just mark no new damage when you return." I refused, did the walk-around and marked damages. Staff then asked me to sign the wrong sheet, and gave me back the wrong carbon.jordan M.

This has to be the worst online reservation and pick-up I have ever dealt with. A few days prior to my pick-up I had made a reservation for a cargo van for my move because it is the only moving vehicle that can go through my apartment complex entry gate. The 10" ones are, unfortunately, too big to fit through and having that would bring a lot of inconvenience: I would need to park at the apartment entry gate; and I would have too bring my items to and from my apartment, which is literally all the end at the end of the complex. Fast forward a few days later, the day of my move, I checked the email I received and noticed that the location I wanted the pick-up WAS NOT the location I selected, instead directed me to a very sketchy part of the area that I'm completely aware about. Not only that I was given a 10" truck instead as my vehicle reservation. I assumed this was a mistake but drove to the location that was stated because I was in a timed schedule. When we reached the pick-up location, I've noticed there wasn't a Cargo Van in the area and just a pick-up truck and a 10" Truck. We had to ask someone at the checkout to help us get our truck set up. The cashier had to look for the person that deals with uHaul since he wasn't at the counter. The pick up time was at 11:00am and we were at the location 15 minutes earlier and waited until 11:15 for this person to arrive to help us. The guy was on his phone half of the time and it seemed nothing related to uHaul business. When he finally started the paper work, I wanted to make sure if the moving vehicle I will be receiving is a Cargo Van and NOT the 10" Moving. He told me that it's only the 10" Truck that I will be receiving since that was available and there wasn't any Cargo Vans within 50 miles. This messes up my plan big time because not only had to park at the entrance of the entry way of my apartment, I had to move things IN THE RAIN. I was literally in a tight schedule and had to accept the 10" Truck. The guy told me since they messed up the order, they will give me the 10" Truck the same price as the Cargo Van I originally reserved. When we got to our truck, the back was wide open and it just started raining in the morning so it was wet. Not only that, it was messy with some broken pens, wood chips and some small items that's probably left from the previous renter. When we got to our apartment, we've noticed there was a missing Gas Cap! I called uHaul immediately if I should try to get it at pick-up area but I was directed to let the people know at the drop-off location. Fast forward a couple of hours later, since our schedule was screwed up since it took longer to move our stuff to the truck and from our apartment, we had missed our scheduled appointment with our apartment managers. We had to wait next week on a weekday since the office is not open on Sundays. When we tried to drop off the truck, the drop-off location where we were supposed to drop off the truck NO LONGER ISHoward M.
The gas station is horribly managed, not clean, and poor customer service. The 10ft truck I got was extremely dirty as well. Will not rent from here again nor recommend to othersRishul P.
