I arrived on time for my pickup at 1 PM sharp. When I ask the guy behind the counter about my reservation he just nodded and said "I have no trucks". I walked out and called customer service, it took me 10 to 15 minutes to get somebody on the phone in the meanwhile I've seen my truck arrive. When I walked in and asked about my reservation with unwillingness and a very dismissive tone he said oh it's here.

Rental was set up for 24/7 smartphone pickup, a paid for with card in advance. Guy behind counter demanded $200 cash. I refused, and went back to my vehicle to call customer support. Customer support confirmed that the rental was paid for, and the demand for cash was fraudulent. I went back into the store and there was a different guy behind the counter now. I showed him the online reservation/receipt, and he gave me the key to the truck. I went outside gave the key to my brother, who was going to drive the truck for me. I got back in my vehicle, and the first guy who was behind the counter came running up to my door with his hand inside his waistband, trying to yank my door open and rob/carjack me. My brother and I left the crime scene quickly for our safety. The rental truck wasn't in working order, maintenance required alarm was loud and continuous. I called customer support, and they told me to take it back to Exxon. I told them that it wasn't safe there, and returned it to original Uhaul dealer.

Aside from the App not working very well, the attendants at the location were not as knowledgable about the process since this is their side business, they are a gas station and snack shop and not everyone knew how to do the Uhaul procedures and gave unclear instructions. They were nice enough, and it was good that they were there to do it, since your Uhaul APP was not working at all.

You changed my reservation location the day before pickup to a much less convenient location. Also the online self check in is a pain to use and the reservation ended up costing 6x your advertised daily rate. I've used U-Haul for years but will be looking for alternatives in the future.

I was overcharged for the U-haul and costs were not transparent. The truck was rented out with little to no gas. The truck could not exceed past 60 miles per hour due to the consistent shaking. Overall poor experience, would not recommend.

Very unprofessional refused to give me a receipt upon return. Vans are dirty with no gas upon pick up but demanded I pay to refuel the van upon drop off. Over charged me by $100 for refueling. Was told I was old and born yesterday but the store attendant.

Horrible experience! Got charged for wrong rental mileage and gas mileage TWICE! Untruthful information on the receipt and they randomly added another day to our return time! This is ridiculous and a scam!

Got a van with an empty tank. Not knowing how much gas I need it. I put $55 in gas and used only half of it. So I overpaid $ 25 in gas. Can I get a refund? Took a picture before and after showing I used only half of it. Engine light and low pressure warning was on. Bad experience overall.

Staff was rude and poor at communication. I was charged for the wrong mileage (more than triple) despite telling the staff member multiple times that the mileage was incorrect and he himself having looked at the mileage. The location itself was very dirty and not safe.

They did not have the blankets that I had paid to rent ready, so they gave me a garbage bag full of funky-smelling blankets. As previously noted, the truck was dirty, contained trash from the previous renter and still had the supplies from the previous rental in the back. Fwiw, I would have been better off keeping the used blankets from the previous rental.

Rented u-haul for 2 hours went to the location to pick it up the man handed me a key and did not inform me that the transmission in the u-haul was bad when I got to my destination halfwmy destination halfway the truck started messing up I called for roadside assistance they came and picked up the truck and charged me $72 for a truck I did not use.

First off, you should explain all of the qualifications clearly so the customer isn't going through the approval process at the location. It's a real pain and it could have been done BEFORE going there. The van smelled like cat pee but otherwise was fine.

The guy doesn't know how to work on uhaul app he wasn't able to process my reservation and I called the support to guide him thru the process. We end up picked the truck but later found he had me rent the truck for the whole day which I told him 4-5 hours and never choosed insurance they charged me 174 for 4 hours and 15 miles only. This amount has been deducted from my account wrongdoing. The call was recorded and you can check it. Called the office they didn't refund me or review my bill. The guy at foothill pick up was rude and refused to give even detail invoice very rude and arrogant beside the staff lake of customer service nor how to process the reservation

Yes to a degree... not being from the area it was just a little tough to be sure you were at the right place as there was not one U-Haul sign designating it a return option. Also your survey should include the ability to comment on the first location i was given to return in Oakland, a disaster of a place... not friendly, not helpful, cared more about selling alcohol and chicken the UHaul business...

The van was dirty inside and out. The tire warning was on. I signed up for counter service, but when I arrived at the location I was told that I could only be helped by going online. Getting to the online portal was no intuitive, and once I got there, I had to provide my information all over again, including copies of my drivers license... I had already provided all that hen I made the booking. For returning, I went through the online process, and received the message I was done and should drop my key in the box. The box was taped up! I went to counter only to be told that my online checkout did not show up and I have to do it again...

To be fair I don't think it was the location itself or even the folks providing service. The van was not well maintained or clean. This seems like something uhaul corporate should be addressing about how often they service their vehicles

Upon pickup, tere was trash, including dirty tissues, in the van so it had obviously not been sanitized in any way. The clerk insisted that the tank was 7/8ths full. Customer service was even more HORRIBLE for drop off when the clerk only grunted at me when I asked questions.

Rent from your local rental car dealer. I booked using Uhaul, and it was a poor experience. When booking online, I added furniture pads to the booking. When I picked up the Uhaul vehicle, the agent was unaware of this. The pads he gave me were dirty, damp, and smelled of mildew. When I brought this to his attention upon return, he said sorry, nothing I can do about that. During check-in and return, he seemed uninterested and uninformed. Poor customer service experience overall. I would not rent from here again.

This location was terrible. I arrived and realized that it is a gas station that is also a fried chicken joint. I went to the counter very confused, asked about uhaul and the person at the counter confirmed I was in the right spot. He looked up my reservation and then told me that I hadn't completed my check in, which I had. In fact I showed him that my reservation reflected that I had completed it. He said I needed to call the uhaul number. I called and stayed on hold for a long time until I got too frustrated and decided I would try to get help at the nearby uhaul store. They were helpful and ended up calling the owner of the gas station/ chicken joint. They instructed me to go back and say that they spoke with Nigel. I was out of my mind- could not believe the level of frustration with uhaul. If uhaul wasn't a monopoly I would never use them again.

The appliance dolly and blanket I ordered where not in the vehicle, making it impossible for me to use for the intended purpose. I had to scramble at the last minute to find another solution. The process of checking out and returning the van on my phone while at the place was *ridiculously* complicated, buggy, and time-consuming. And there was a language barrier that made the gas station clerk not able to help me much. I hope to never rent a vehicle this way again, I'll just go to an actual U-Haul office next time.

I plan on contacting U-Haul for a full refund for the experience I had. There was one thing after another. Which ended up costing me over $1 000 in fines because I was unable to get the U-Haul I ordered in the time frame that was necessary

Agents need to be professional not unruly to customers. Explain questions asked by customers to the best if their knowledge . Agent was confrontational and very uncooperative. At a point he told us to leave. We were forced to take insurance coverage we don't need. We have insurance to cover the rental

The truck was parked so close to another van I had to get help backing out. The rear view mirrors not set in a way that anyone could see out of. Tools were needed to adjust the mirrors and I did not have them so I had to drive blind. Plus the app wasn't working to check-in and take pictures so I got over charged for gas.

When I arrived at the location's parking lot at Pious Petroleum, I had completed the online check-in while in my car and paid on my phone the amount of $148,17 ($99 flat + insurance + fees and tax) When I went into the gas station to retrieve the keys, the attendant, Nick Patel, said I had not paid yet and didn't complete the check-in. I informed him that I had just completed the check-in in the parking lot and had paid minutes prior to entering the gas station, and I had verified my completed check-in by showing him the confirmation message on my phone. He then saw that I did infact pay $148.17, but he then proceeded to write up a new estimate totaling $383.65. Obviously I inquired about the new estimate since I had previously agreed to a deal for $99 flat with 200 miles included, plus insurance and tax. He gave a very nonsensical explanation about in-town versus one-way trucks; I and my friend felt he was trying to scam for more money. He informed me that he would deduct the prepaid amount of $148,17 from the new estimate, and that he was not able to honor the original price on his end. He said the only way he can honor the original price was to have uhaul customer service override the price on their end, so I called uhaul's 1800 number and waited several minutes to be connected to a representative. The representative asked to speak to the gas station attendant and they argued back and forth. The customer service agent over the phone was advocating for me and seemed to also be confused as to why the gas station attendant was changing my order. She told him that if he was not able to provide me a truck under the conditions that I originally agreed to, that he should have informed uhaul sooner so that I could've been directed to another location. Frustrated and already way behind schedule, I asked the agent on the phone if she could help me find another uhaul location with an available truck I could pick up immediately. Overhearing me, it was then that the gas station attendant asked to speak to the agent on my phone, he told her he did not want to waste any more of the customer's time and due to the fact that it was the Uhaul system's fault (a statement that the call agent disagreed with), he was going to provide me a discount that would bring my total cost down to the originally agreed upon amount. I feel strongly that he only intervened because I was about to leave to find another location. When charging me, he applied a discount that brought the price down, however I was charged an additional tax amount, and had to pay another $14.65. I believe the original amount of $148,17 that I paid already included taxes. Charging double tax is illegal. Needlessly to say, I am very upset at the entire experience. I wasted so much time going back and forth with the attendant, my movers' time was wasted as well, and we were put behind schedule resulting in being stuck in lots of traffic. On top of all that, I was also double taxed. I am requesting a full refund. If no refund is applied, I will be contacting my credit card company to file a charge back.

This place is a joke! I don't think you should allow rentals here. My uhaul phone app wasn't working and the manager did not speak any english and was being very rude! He didn't even want to speak with the uhaul rep I had on the phone. If it wasn't for every other place being booked up I would have left and not rented here! There was sticky, goopy stuff on the cup holder area also.

The pick up process is not possible to do entirely through your phone as the keys are located inside. The processing inside takes a bit of time. It would be great if this could be moved to completely via mobile, especially during COVID times.

Employers barely speak English. They had me wait to sell cigarettes to customers since it's also a gas station store. The person who assisted me after I begged them to help me was on his phone and the tow wasn't properly install ending in damaging the rental property according to the pick up location and a fine was paid. This location should close indefinitely. Merci.

I had tk worst experience with the truck and location. Truck smelled like cigarettes and cigars. Upon pick up the gas level was below the mentioned level on the record. When i tried to take the truck back with the same level, the attendant who happend to work in that gas station told me i should put 5 bucks more in the tank to get the initial level. He then told me that it wasnt enough and had me put 10 more bucks. This was when i was returning the truck AFTER i had already put previous gas in. After the 10 dollars it was already way over and i just spent extra money for nothing. I even took videos/phoyos of everything from the beginning and end of the rental but was not assisted properly. Worst customer service, worst location and worst uhaul experience to date.

The person at the convenience store counter was very helpful. We originally attempted to log in with the 24/7 mobile experience which was terrible. It did not adequately explain how to turn on location services, it required 2 alternate contacts for a total of 4 phone numbers on the account (excessive). It loaded the same page multiple times and required a picture of the drivers license again (after we had already uploaded it during our original reservation). We ended up going inside to transact the staff at the location and this was much smoother. There was no line, he was able to pull up our information right away and he came outside to take pictures of the van conditions we brought to his attention.

I am actually became a regular customer of U-haul in this month. I have Gotten a rental from two other location near Concord and they were great. I am sorry for giving a bad review. I actually feel bad saying thing but I would not recommend this location to anyone. I drove to this location from concord which is 35 min drive because I wanted this rental urgently so that I could make it on time. first I was expecting self checkout by going there and going through your U-Haul share site. I watched video and all info there and I don't see any place that I could click on or go to get the box code. I went into the gas station and all the keys are hanging behind the counter. Waited for someone to who could check able to help me. The guy came out form back room and it took him 20 to 25 min to short before i actually got a key in my hand. It was like I am making a complete new reservation and nothing that I booked on phone mattered. It was hard to understand what he was saying. After I received a key for van I went to do walk around for any damages and to confirm mileage and gas. I come back took a pic of mileage and gas showed him and he said half tank gas. I am showing him it less the half he insisted on half tank. I just wanted to go so I can try and make it on time. I come back for return it took me 30 min to return my rental van due to a costumer ahead of me had to go through the same problems that i went through that morning. When i finally return that van I found out that some how somewhere i got charged $20 extra for I selecting damage waiver that I had no knowledge off choosing. in my past rental, I never had choose that Option because I have my insurance to cover. I am genuinely sorry for this awful review but I think it was necessary for a company's interest to train their employees properly.

This place is a poor representation of your company. The first location, where I had a reservation, on MacArthur BLVD by MacArther Bart station, did actually have the truck, but made the reservation anyway. The only reason I found about about this fact is because I went by the day before my reservation to make sure. Don't make a reservation for a 15 foot truck of you don't have one. This is my primary grievance. I don't fault Uhaul for the neighborhood in which a contractor is located, but I will likely not use uhaul in the future due to my experience on this trip at both locations on Foothill and at MacArthur. I would be highly concerned as a company about the 4280 Foothill location representing your brand.

Uhaul did not have the truck I rented available at the location I ordered. I was instead sent to pick up the truck 6 miles away and was then charged for the extra 12 miles I had to travel due to this error.

I've been an UHaul customer for many years and always was receiving great service, having no hustle rent/return transaction. My recent experience with Pious Petroleum LLC 4280 Foothill Bl in Oakland was something else. Trouble started during the return. They repeatedly tried to charge me extra amount of money and acted super unprofessional. I had to spend 1hr and 15 min ( between 10pm and 11:15 pm) in there while the clerk was making mistake after mistake with closing my contract and ended up overcharging my credit card for over $250. He was on the phone multiple times and serving other customers of the gas station while neglecting me and not respecting my time (The counter is inside the gas station). I offered multiple times to do a self check out over the phone app but my request was denied every time. On top of that most of the customers coming in were not waring face mask ( although it is a REQUIREMENT in the State of CA). Employees were not wearing their face covering properly as well - exposing nose and only covering their mouths. I feel that my health was endangered in the circumstances that were created in this location. Also one of the employees made photos of my credit card on his private phone - front and back!! This is a violation of privacy and my financial information security. I later said he will delete images but I am not sure he did. They promised to fix the billing error but they never did. I had to call Uhaul customer service the next day and the error was luckily fixed but without any assistance from this location employee or the owner. I insist UHAUL headquarters will take disciplinary measures against this location as it clearly not representing the UHAUL Brand values to treat customers with respect and act professionally.

Firstly, I had booked the trailer from another location and was only told about the change when I arrived to pick up my trailer. When I checked in the agent said, "The trailer is in the back." Didn't offer to show me how to hook it up, or offer any help at all other than swiping my credit card. Charged me for insurance without asking, even though I had unchecked that option when I booked online. When I went out to collect the trailer it had garbage inside it, including a used syringe. I wish I could include the photos I took. Very, very poor "service!"

The location is marketed as a location with contactless pick up. However, customers are actually required to obtain the keys in the gas station. U-Haul and the location failed to give me accurate info as to how to get the keys, and it was more or less chance that I figured out how this location operates. Also, the van was not very clean on the inside (clearly someone had used it with very dirty shoes and no clean up happened between me and the previous customer).

My rental was not there at my reservation time. It was over an hour late. When it did get there I asked for it to be wiped down and Sam told me he didn't do that. When I asked for cleaning supplies he didn't give me anything to wipe it down. I had to purchase items to use to clean the steering wheel. The truck was extremely dirty on top of that.

Your personnel accepted my trailer without any issues but wanted me to backup the trailer into a somewhat difficult spot due to the lack of space at the facility as vehicles were driving in and out of their gas station. There were no significant negative problems although there were no significant positive points either.

It was a hassle for me to ultimately end up with the 4x8 size trailer that I had reserved weeks in advance. The location and size had both changed due to availability (of which I was notified with only a couple days notice, despite my very early reservation) -- the size to a 5x8 which would have been much too large for my belongings and unnecessarily gas-guzzling to tow, and the location to one that was an hour further away from my apartment. It was only with substantial interactions over the phone with UHaul that I was able to locate an available desired 4x8 trailer, which ended up being closer to my apartment than the 5x8 offered to me. The pickup and dropoff ended up going smoothly after that, but the last-minute scramble and non-transparency despite my early planning was not appreciated and added stress to my already logistic-full cross-country move.

I make my order on-line with all my personal requirements I need. The clerk at the location made my order changes manually and increased total price.

first of all i specifically asked for no coverage but was charged the $14 safe move fee, secondly how the fuck did the total come out to $90 to use a truck for 1 1/2 hours, i will never use your service again. you’re trash and so was that ghetto ass location.

The gas tank cap was missing on the van we rented and this was not discovered until we were en route to our destination. This resulted in the 1/4 tank of gas going to empty and we had to fill the tank. When we told the owner at the location he said it happens at this location and he couldn't do anything about it.
