This location was extremely unsafe. When we walked in, we stated that we were picking up a U-Haul. The clerk began calling someone, and received the person's voicemail at least 10 times before someone finally answered. When a person did answer, the clerk just handed me the phone. We had no in person interaction with anyone from U-Haul. The location was in a bad part of St. Louis, and the entire 20 minutes we were at the pick up location, we were constantly in fear that something bad would happen. The market we picked up the U-Haul from was dilapidated and very unclean. This was not the location I selected for pick up. I selected a different location back in May, but was told the day before my scheduled pick up that the location had changed. I tried calling U-Haul to move this pick up because I knew it was in a bad part of the City. The person who spoke with me was extremely rude and condescending. It was by far the worst customer service experience I have ever had. She insulted me repeatedly and lied multiple times while I was on the phone with her. Ultimately, she refused to even attempt to accommodate any requests I made. Based on this entire experience, I will never rent from U-Haul again.

John RThe rental experience was a bit of a fiasco. I was supposed to pick up my rental truck in downtown St. Louis. By text, I was told that it was moved to 4230 Gravois Ave. After waiting 40 minutes in line at that location, I was told that they didn't have a truck. After calling several places, I was sent to 1525 Chouteau Ave. I also had an order of boxes that I was supposed to pick up at Gravois. They told me that I could pick them up at Chouteau which was not the case. I call U-Haul to cancel the order, in order to get refunded, but it did not happen. I was therefore, forced to stop payment on my credit card.

Kristi SLocation first claimed that I had not returned the entire truck so I had to return to the location for them to acknowledge that I had returned the truck. They rented the truck out to someone while it was still under my contract.
CRYSTLE MMy reservation was changed last minute to this location and I had to go back to the location I got my truck. They helped me load my car up and didn't strap my tires down and I was driving from St Louis to Chicago. Then when I drop the tow dolly off the clerk undid the hitch from the U-Haul before taking the car off. People need to be properly trained with these tow dolly's. Fortunately I knew something didn't feel right and I pulled over. One of my tires was half way out of the groove to keep it in place

Also option for declination is not as visually obvious. Try to offer your services in somewhat less pushy manner and make possible main order more seamless.

Justin HThe location was extremely dirty, the employee in the office was rude and when I informed him that I was picking up a uhaul he started getting upset and called someone on the phone while he smoked 3 cigarettes while I waited. Then he handed me his cell phone and keys and asked me to get the mileage and tell the person on the phone. The uhaul itself was dirty, there was food and trash left from the previous person who rented it. No one even checked for damage or gas. It was the worst experience and tbe building/bodega was falling apart and dirty.

Where one of the workers was smoking a cigarette inside. I had to pay an extra $25 in Uber fares because Uhaul allowed me to book a broken truck.

BRIAN BMultiple customers were booked the same exact truck which led to a delay in being able to use the equipment. Person on site had no knowledge of how to fix the issue, just gave a number to call. Both myself and on site personnel called and got two different reps both actively in the same account trying to change things. Was charged for things I didn't want for the trip as well.
Micheal PThe mobile process was not set up at this location, the store owner did not seem to be familiar with the process or how to help, despite setting a pickup time the person who had the keys and the dollies (which should have been in the truck and ready to go) did not show up until called by the store owner.

Jesse-Linn MThe first issue was when I was alerted that I had to pick up my truck at a different location than that which I had scheduled to a location in a highly crime-ridden part of town. When I went to pick up the truck, I attempted to use the app to avoid troubling the store owner. When I called U-Haul I was simply told I had to be on site for it to work. It did not. I had to go into the store (a very shady place) and the store owner called -Haul. After several attempts with no answer he gave up and I had to call. When we finally got through, about 20 minutes later, we were told my truck number. The truck was not there. I had to go through an arduous ordeal with a very lovely woman on the phone who kept sending me links to take and upload pictures of my drivers license. This did not work properly. After four attempts, I was required to give her contact info for two close friends/family members. Finally, I was given a new truck number, which was on the lot. When I opened the door of the truck, I was hit with the awful smell off significant pent-up cigarette smoke. As I got into the cab, there was a large paper cup in the cup holder that was nearly 1/2 full of cigarette butts! It was disgusting. The truck had approximately 1/16 tank of gas. The process had taken at least 45 minutes, during which I got a message from the moving company that they had arrived at my storage shed to load the truck. By the time I got to the storage shed, the movers had left for another job and I had to wait 3 additional hours before they could return. During the break, I went home and did my best to clean the cab and remove the cigarette smell. Despite my extreme dislike for cigarettes, I have severe asthma. Though we did a pretty good job cleaning the cab, the smell lingered. After 2 and 1/2 days driving, the truck was unloaded and I couldn't wait to return the truck (3 days early). As the contract required, I filled up the gas to1/2 tank (despite having picked the truck up with almost none). I had been warned not to use U-Haul, and wish now I had headed the advice. I still have not gotten rid of the cough that I developed because of the cigarette smell, and have had to make alternate plans to pick up furniture that I had purchased. I mentioned most of this to Donna Metzgar when I dropped off the truck. She could not have been nicer not more apologetic. U-Haul need to immediately quit using the location where I had to pick up my truck. At a minimum, U-Haul should reimburse me for the $50 I had to spend to get the gas 1/2 tank (California Prices). I believe they should also reimburse me 3 days of my rental due to the condition of the cab. If they do, I would happily add an addendum to this post that they actually care. Until then, I recommend you use a different company.
Michael TAs a single female, this location felt "sketchy" upon arrival. The person at the front was not the person that took my information, I did that over the phone with someone that the person at the desk had called. It was not a terrible experience but I did not appreciate that the individual was smoking as he was taking care of getting the rental.

Shawn LThe gentleman working the counter seemed like dealing with uhaul services was an inconvenience. Plus I got double booked for movers but only one was listed on my account and I was charged $14 extra dollars for "safe move" which I did not ask for. The online system is evidently glitchy.

anita mI was first told to pickup UHaul at a Normandy location which looked like a junk yard with a hi security fence around it. They were not open and they did not have the UHaul. I was then told to go to Chouteau location 14 miles from my house. This location also had a security fence. I had to wait 5 minutes for someone to show up that apparently knew what to do when dealing with UHaul. The positive for the location is it was close to I-40. It seemed unsafe however.
David VThe location does not have extra equipment handy. It would be nice to rent a furniture dolly but you didn't have it. The truck has very high mileage but drives well enough. I will recommend Uhaul to friends.
Rex TThe truck was down to an 1/8th of a tank when they gave it to me and I had to immediately fill it with gas. Then when I returned it at the end of my rental period with a half tank of gas, they charged me $21 on my bill with a refuel charge. I not only had to pay to fill it but then they charged me again for the gas I used.
Emily EThis is just my perspective, but while the location I picked up may be described as, "shady," or, "dangerous looking," not every location in the United States which needs the services U-Haul can provide will be pretty to look at. I've seen some of the reviews of this location and they tend towards the negative. That's why I took the time to write this review. My recommendation would be to provide a better photo or two of the location so that people who may not want to go to that type of location will avoid it, rather than be surprised and feel negatively about their experience.

JOSEPH BThe location is terrible,so much misinformation and lack of communication between coworkers. On top of having to use the app/website to turn in the uhaul. The app and website are awful as well and don't really work which added stress at the end of the journey renting from them. I would recommend anyone to go to an actual uhaul store and not this rundown "convenience" store

kodjo aWasn't very satisfied. I reserved ahead and the person at the front counter said I didn't have a reservation. He called the store manager/owner and he also said I had no reservation. After multiple attempts he found the reservation but quoted 400 dollars felt it was wrong then quoted 144 dollars for 24 hrs +40 miles if I had a choice then I would have cancelled. Then the truck was almost empty and had the check engine light one. Steering was poor and felt out of alignment. I returned the truck with more gas than I received and was initially charged $22 for gas but I disputed. I walked away from this experience not sure if I'd use U-Haul again. I definitely wouldn't use that location even they they were nice
jesse wLocation changed by Uhaul last minute. Sketchiest business I have ever been in, the employee was smoking inside and handed me a phone to talk with someone from Uhaul for the check-in. Never signed a Uhaul rental agreement contract or even saw one, and the signature on the agreement emailed to me was not my signature. No inspection of the vehicle prior to leaving. No confirmation of mileage or gas before leaving. Salama Supermarket should not be used by Uhaul.
Eric SI was extremely disappointed with U haul for several significant reasons. 1) When I arrived to the pick up location, I answered a few questions with the person serving me, but to my surprise I did not fill out any forms. I had never used u-haul before, so I did not think much of it at the time. It wasn't until later, when I was emailed the contract with a signature that was NOT my own, that I realized the location had filled out everything and forged my signature. I found this extremely disturbing and illegal. 2) the inside of the truck had trash and broken glass all over the floor. It was as if no one had even checked or maintained it. 3) when I returned the truck (moments after filling it up at the gas station), I was charged a $35 gas fee. I asked for an explanation since I had returned it at the same level in which I found it. This was my first and only experience with uhaul. I used to think they were the "top of the line" when it came to moving rentals. I was wrong.

May have been better to pick up from a manned location. The truck worked well, the app doesn't work - even the u-haul people I contacted via phone said so, and directed me o. the website
Charles KThey just didn't seem too interested in this part of their business and it took a little longer to get the paperwork done. They also didn't put the packing blanket pads in the trailer and we didn't see it until we got home to begin loading and didn't have time to go back.

ANTHONY WNot the best part of town. Had originally reserved a truck much closer to home (11 days prior), but was called the day before and told the only truck in the size I needed was in a completely different part of town. Truck worked fine mechanically, but needed a good cleaning in the cab.

Antonio MParking lot is small to drop off 26' truck. Tight space. Staff inside market didn't seem to care too much about where the truck was left. Neighborhood made me leery of leaving appliance dolly and moving blankets in the back but staff inside ensured it was okay. Placed items in back of truck close to moms attic area. Left pictures on self check in through uhaul.com.
JUSTIN GI was charged $75 for gas, eventhough I brought it back with the same amount that I left with. And, we confirmed things were good before i left, and I brought it back 24 hours early.
