Make sure someone answers the phone at the pickup location. It's alittle unnerving not being able to talk to someone in a different city that your going to.
RANDALL MORGANIt would be nice if equipment reserved was available. I understand trucks go out and not always back on time but blankets, dolleys, etc should be prepared and set aside for those with reservations. Customer service from those at the location was phenomenal though! It was hard to be upset when they were so kind!

Allen YoungThe lady at the front desk was extremely rude, as soon as I left the parking lot I noticed the fuel level on the rental agreement said the tank was at a higher amount than it actually was. I called her immediately and told her it was actually at only a quarter tank, to which she said she would mark it in the system that the initial fuel level was at 1/4 tank. I asked if she could send me a new contract and she said "No, it's updated in the system, it's fine." I asked again and she hung up on me. I called back and it just kept ringing. Looking at my invoice, I was charged $30 for fuel! A refund for the fuel is the least you could do, I would NEVER recommend U-Haul to anyone, especially at this location. There are so many other options available and I wish I chose a different company. I will never use U-Haul again after this terrible experience; it's overpriced and terrible service. Please make this right.

Jill MurrayI received a truck that was tapping loudly as I drove it and it would not pick up speed to 55 mph. I called and spoke to Elijah about it when I got home with it. He did offer to have me bring it back for another. But it was windy and raining and I was going to have to go over the Ravenel bridge. I was not going to attempt that again. I made do with the truck since I wasn't going far. When I returned it, all I got was a thank you for letting them know. No apologies, nothing. What happened to customer service??? Why did he not offer to send me another truck due to the issues?

David BabbThe truck was very beat up and had significant damage that hadn't been fixed. It also had warning lights on the dash about tire issues and drove very rough. Location and staff is good, maintenance on the vehicles is lacking.
Melissa VarnellRENTED a 10ft truck from the General Manager Mr Mack, and even though he knew it was a 24 hr rental, he never mentioned a parking pass! I could go into detail about the $201 towing fee, the monumental inconvenience and the 'not my problem' customer service that I received from the U-Haul staff and the fact that my car was towed 25 minutes away. But the complete lack of empathy from the General Manager should be concerning to anyone who does business with this store.
Richard BowmanThe King St location went above and beyond. I had rented through the app hoping to pick up at the King St location as I had a couple of time before. The day before I was notified that I'd have to pick up at a location on Rivers Ave, North Charleston, SC. When got to that location there was one truck, no personnel, and no one answered the phone. I called King St, they still had no 15' trucks available, but did have a larger one. I said I'd take it and they hooked me up. King St saved me! As it turned out I needed the larger truck. God is good! To Uhaul Corporate: You need to better verify those whom you allow to use your name (1729+/- Rivers Ave, North Charleston.)

Chris BollesEmployees in Charleston were highly unprofessional. It took 3 trailers before I could get one that did not have issues. I was then told I could drop it off anywhere in bluffton but I was routed to a place 45 minutes away. The second place I ended up dropping it at, the guy made it seem like I was burdening him when I was told the wrong info. Overall nightmare experience!
Christie NuceChecked in beforehand and they could not pull up info (even though I got a confirmation text). Equipment was dirty, gas gage didn't work consistently, engine light came on, windshield was cracked. Reserved blankets and none in stock. Not sure why I was charged an additional $181,6!
Faye JensenThe check engine light was on. The interior was not very clean and worst of all there was a strong and I mean very strong odor of marijuana inside the truck. The odor stayed in the cab all day and gave me a headache and made my daughter feel nauseous. When I returned the truck and reported the issue to the manager I was treated with indifference about the situation. I am a long time customer of Uhaul and have used Uhaul many times over many past years and always been satisfied. My biggest concern was if I was pulled over for any reason by police while driving this truck I may have been in serious trouble because of the strong odor of pot.

While unloading our boxes from that part of the U-Haul, we realized the bottoms of the boxes were soaked and the entire mom's attic space was a large puddle. Additionally, when parking the engine shut off, but then turned back on after turning the key over again.

Jordan NorwoodI drove 12 miles total and was charged for 8 gallons. The 15' truck uses 10mpg. I did not use 8 gallons in 12 miles. I was way overcharged for fuel. This is theft. I will never go back to this location ever and will recommend to everyone I know to never use U-Haul, to look for alternative companies.
Matthew SlaterThe online self pick up wasn't working, but luckily they were open and took care of us super quick & efficiently. Unfortunately the bay door was broken (cables were all twisted) which we had to disconnect to be able to use the truck. This made it very hard (and dangerous) to operate the door, but we managed. I'm sure this was an unusual situation and we would definitely still use this location again.

I have a discharge email stating that my discharge was complete. I follow all the steps and I took all the pictures and I sent the pictures in and I kept the email that I was sent for proof of my discharge.

The ceiling area in the storage facility needs some work as it appears to have had a lot of leaking issues for a long time. They do their best to clean it and deal with the leaks. One of the men that works with the trucks, coming and going , always made himself available to help me carry, lift, and place items in my vehicle. I never had to ask and he always made himself available. He was particularly polite, professional, helpful and kind.

I had to go to two different U-Haul facilities just to get a truck and a hitch for my car. But when I got to Charleston I met Mike. He works at the King Street U-Haul facility. He was very instrumental in making the rest of my move smooth. My daughter nickname him Magic Mike. People like Magic Mike Elijah and TJ are hard to come by.

Several others have no concept of the importance of the customer experience (they are "Debbie Downers") and the customer leaves feeling that they are not important to the company. These employees fail to understand that the money they are paid comes ONLY from the customer and that they work for the customer. They undermine the business and prevent it from standing out as a great place to do business with.

This is a busy office but I received excellent service as if I was the only customer present. I have been waiting for the opportunity to note the amazing service delivered by Latosha (excuse misspelling). After a 13 hour drive to King st and a 13 hour return home planned the next day, I hoped for anything to make unpacking the unit and packing the trailer easier. Latosha did everything to make it easier! I pulled out of the parking lot thrilled because we were in and out so much quicker (and easier )than anticipated. Merci.

I got a U-Haul from another dealer and when I pulled up at King street with my first load to store, one of the young men noticed the trailer wasn't hitched properly. He corrected the issue. I was checking out and running a little late and the staff stayed around an extra 30 minutes for me to finish. This team has excellent customer service.

Also, the recurring payment choice never worked, and each month I had to call and hope they would remove late fee.
Michael Maxey | Expérience généraleThis is the only place that I know of that charges twice as much than anyone else to store items in a flood plain, Of course there is no grace period for paying the rent, even if you can't get to the storage area due to a flood. Just out of curiosity, if the storage area were flooded and stayed flooded for 6 months straight, would you still charge rent for those six months during which our items were under water? I will not be back and neither will anyone that I speak with.
Jesse Zorger | Expérience généraleThere need to be trash cans more centrally located within the Uhaul storage area itself, the fact that we had to walk all the way around the entire building to get to the dumpster was extremely time consuming and ill-efficient. Clearly others feel the same way because there was constantly trash strewn through out the corridors. There is always a super long line in the customer service area and oftentimes associates who are unwilling and uninterested in helping whatsoever. On several occasions we had issues with Carol, who was not only demeaning, and apathetic but has the customer service ability of a dirty diaper. Sadly enough, she is the Manager or Owner!! As the highest on payroll she deserves a severe demotion and someone else needs to run that place. The only thing this place has going for it is its location and proximity to downtown. That and theres a young man who works there named TJ who is the diamond in the rough at that place. He works mostly outside, in the heat, helping to return and clean out the Uhauls. Our interaction with him was the only positive experience we can glean from patronizing with this Uhaul. He deserves a raise and a promotion for maintaining a positive attitude, being helpful, dilligent, willing to go above and beyond for the customer, all amidst clearly poor conditions and management that he has to work with. I hope his spirit doesnt get broken by the terrible attitudes of his colleagues and I hope UHAUL as a company regonizes his hard work and enacts stricter guidelines for the rude "managment" and "Customer service" agent you all have employed there.
