I returned the U-Haul trailer on 7/31/2022, shortly after 6 pm. It was during a heavy rainstorm, and I tried to check in online, but the service was spotty, probably because of the storm, so I was not able to complete it there. I tried doing it at home, but it asked to use location service to verify I had returned it to the right spot, but since I was home, that did not work. I returned it to the proper location, thinking they would check it in on Monday morning. I received a text on Tuesday, but when I went to log in, it said the link was expired. I received the same text on 8/4/22, and again the link was expired. I stopped by the office this evening, and noticed the trailer was in the same spot I left it, (which was right next to other trailers). I asked the young man that was there if they had checked it in, and he said no, they must have missed it. He assured me I would not be charged extra, as I had reutrned it on time, and they failed to "notice" it was here, even though he said I did park it in the correct area. My card was charged shortly after for $94 and some change, which I need to be reimbursed ASAP. It not for this, I would have rated this establishment as excellent all acrooss the board. I would not even bring this up if the pick up location had not been such a nightmare. I go to the drop off location and the instructions dictate that I stay in the truck and someone will come and check me out. I wait 12 minutes but no one comes. So I go inside where there are no customers and three reps. They were very polite and took care of me right away. I just hate I wasted 12 minutes sitting in a truck earlier. You need to change your signage/instructions so we don't waste more time.Scott C.
The staff was super friendly and my truck was exactly as ordered. The computer system went down just as I was picking up my rental, which left me in a bit of a bind, albeit briefly. I had reserved a regular dolly and a furniture Dolly, and neither were available on the day of my rental, and I was still charged for them. Van was dirty, swept the dried red clay out the back when I got home. No dollie was available when I was picking it up. Said their was a local shortage (even though I had one reserved). Said the reservation system for dollies didn't work as the system didn't recognize inventory but I could buy one for $50. I also rented the van for 24 hours. Arrived at 7 PM to pick it up. Reservation said it was due back by 6:45. That is not a 24 hour rental. I was able to swing by another U-Haul location in Karns and the person at the counter was very helpful and friendly. Able to get a dollie from them. Wished my full rental and van would have been available at that location.Jeffrey M.

I had a reservation made for the one in Halls of course I go out there and the two ladies that are there are very very rude just nasty attitudes and told me I had to go to Clinton Highway to pick up my truck because theirs was reserved for someone else after I already had a reservation for there they would not let me get a truck you need to put new people in there that has a nicer attitude because those two ladies are just nasty all the way around so I went to Clinton Highway after I left Halls to pick up the truck and they were just super nice people at that location from now on I rent a truck every two weeks from now on I will go to Clinton Highway I will not go to Halls you need to replace those two nasty old ladiesKaren D.

My initial contract stated that I was to pick up the uhaul and tow dolly at a different location. When I went there they confirmed this was the correct pickup location but told me they didn't have the tow dolly. They were unable to offer any other assistance but told me to call the 1800 number for uhaul. After waiting on hold for 15 minutes the guy said it was someone else's job to help me and said he was going to transfer me to a Knoxville service coordinator to find a location that had the items I reserved. After being on hold again I explained the situation to the person I was transferred to again and she told me she was actually at the Nashville branch and couldn't help me but she would transfer me to the Knoxville branch. This 10-15 minute hold and transfer situation happened 6 more times over the next hour and a half with me being transferred back to Nashville each time because no one was answering at the Knoxville location. I asked if there was any way to avoid being transferred to Nashville repeatedly but they said no, I would just have to keep calling, holding, and being transferred to the wrong place until hopefully the Knoxville location would answer eventually or I could always drive around to different uhaul locations and ask in person. I started driving to a random uhaul location and while driving a large piece of equipment flew off the truck in front of me at 70 mph and hit my car rendering it undrivable. Since now I needed the tow dolly even more, I called again from the side of the highway, waited on hold for the 8th time and this time the person in Nashville I was transferred to said that actually, they COULD help me, so I guess the other people in that office just didn't feel like helping me. Turns out my pickup location had been changed but no one ever notified me. I searched my email and confirmed that I never received any updated pickup location. I was told where to go to get the truck and tow dolly and was finally able to complete my move but after hours of delays I had to drive the 26 foot truck and tow the car through the mountains in the dark of night. I am now without a car for a month in a state I just moved to and have $3000 in damage to my personal vehicle to pay for. I can't help but think that none of this would have happened if uhaul had taken just one of the dozens of opportunities they had that day to fix their mistake or at least offer assistance on the phone.Claire B.

The representative mentioned that the way your computer system is set up, it charges the customer for another day, unless you return the vehicle at least 15 minutes before the scheduled return time. I wasn't aware of this the first time I rented a vehicle and had to get a refund, as I returned it at the scheduled time. Why not set you system so that it "gives" the customer that 15 minutes as cushion, instead of making them go through the hassle of calling for a refund? Seems like good business to me. Other than that, no complaints. If needed, I will rent from you again.Marcus F.

I have been a U Haul customer for years! My experience at the Clinton Highway U-Haul in Knoxville TN was unbelievable. I rented a 20 foot truck and furniture dollies. Neither were available. was told with NO remorse, apology or concern whatsoever they could not guarantee these things, and that I could have a 26 footer and go to Home Depot, maybe they rented furniture dollies! It was 8 AM, they had not had a hard day, and no other customer was there when I arrived. They didn't inspect the truck with me, no assistance in getting the blankets and utility dolly loaded, they put it at the front door and told me to come get it when I had the truck. When I returned the truck, they set inside the building. I had to go get them to return the truck. They wanted to take the keys and leave, I requested a receipt on the spot to see what I paid for, they were not happy, said I could get an email receipt. I told them I wanted paper now, lived out of town, and wanted to ensure I was appropriately charged. Here is the real kicker...they were not busy, morning or afternoon. I have used U-Haul for years, from college moves to kids moving to new and first jobs in Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina...never again. I'll try Budget or Penske.Robert C.

I ALWAYS FILL GAS TANK to where it should be. Myself andf my colleague went to the nearest gas station 1,9 miles away from Clinton Highway UHaul and filled it 1/4 full where i RECEIVED IT. They FALSELY Reported it was only 1/8th FULL and charged me 34,5 for gas. I only went 30 miles. The truck can't use 1/8th a tank in 30 miles. LYING THEIVES. And charged me $30 to refuel. I always trusted UHaul so I did not take a photo of where we filled it too. TIS LOCATION WILL CHEAT YOU IF YOU DO NOT TAKE A PHOTO OF WHERE YOU FILLED IT TO. BEWARE THIS UHAUL.William H S.

The uhaul was extremely heavy and the kid that hooked it up couldn't lift it. I strained my back helping him lift it up on the hitch. After leaving I stopped to ensure everything was still tight to find back doors pulled to and not latched.John B.

having rented & driven more uhaul vehicles than i care to count over close to 20yrs, i have never seen a poorer maintained vehicle nor a more painful process to finally get the vehicle. the vehicle cab was filthy & the steering was so loose it felt like it might roll over at speed, but the staff didn't care a bit when i told them at turn-in. they added verification measures to my rental pickup that have never been required before too, of which i was not informed prior to & had to wake up a friend to verify i am who i said i am, after identity verification - more than a bit ridiculously excessive for a local only rental. the staff needs to be fired & the vehicles need an actual mechanic to go over each & every vehicle before they're allowed back on the road for obvious safety concerns.Jason K.

The management was in array, I understand that it is hard to find good people to manage, but U-haul should do a little better finding people to do what they say and to lead by example. I was told I would be pro-rated for the move from one storage unit to another at the same facility. That never happened, and I was basically ignored. Everything about this experience was frustrating. I was asked for a 2nd contact phone number, which I don't have because I only use a cell phone, so I gave my mother's. He then asked for an emergency contact number and had to give my stepmom's phone AND address. After he bumbled through the process, he asked me to pick a code and then said "Really?" after I gave him one. He handed me the paperwork after with no instructions. I had to ask him what my storage number was and where to go. He just pointed and I had to figure it out myself. The code I gave him also didn't work and had to go back to the office to get a temporary one since custom ones "don't work right away." I've stored stuff at other U-Haul locations and loved it... The U-Haul resevation person did not reserve my storage bin like we discuussed, by me renting a trailer I qualified for one month of free storage. When I got to the drop off center in Clinton, Tn to uinload my trailer, I didn't have a resevation and the person working at the Clinton location informed me that he was not going to give me the sized storage bin that I need for free. The service provider would oly give me the sized storage bin that he thought I needed, which I explained to him was not large enough to accomadate all of my belongings, he told me that he did not care and that it was. After driving 6 hours to get to the storage unit we were VERY displeased with how rude the guy was that helped us. I had reserved a unit but when I got there they said that they didn't have any available.. and only gave me one unit that was a 5x10 when I ordered a 10x10... clearly I needed a 10x10 because of the amount of room needed..But thankfully the owner was able to get everything straighten out for us. The climate control wasn't worth the extra expense, as temps weren't well monitored-often too hot. My unit leaked during an especially heavy rain. Items mysteriously disappeared out of it & the lock would sometimes be turned backwards from the way I placed it. Since the new office & truck facility was built next door, it seemed that there were no cameras on the actual storage units, & a property next to it could have provided access over the fence due to the difference in ground levels.
