Why does the price I pay kept going up?????? Ridiculous!!!!! I didnt get safemove or other extra charges. I called and spoke to someone to extend the time of rent and they told me its okay without any charges. Now my bill is almost twice as the rate they quoted me. Wtf!

I would recommend uhaul storage simply because the first month was free with use of a truck. My overall impression wasn't great, though. My access code to arm/disarm the alarm never worked and the alarm sounded every time I opened my unit. Service was slow and communication with uhaul reps vague. I wasn't able to move into my unit on the day scheduled because a uhaul rep failed to book my moving truck for the correct time, and when I had to pick up the truck at 6 they didn't inform me that offices closed at 7. I was frustrated and disappointed with the lack of basic communication.

In the end we ere pleased but there were issues at both ends in Urbana, IL and in Somerville, MA. The original réservation got lost by Urbana, but we were able to make a new one without difficulty. We paid for insurance but the manager in Urbana swapped out our U-box without updating the box number on the insurance. Even though we only used one box, We ended up with multiple reservations, multiple U-Box numbers, and multiple different bills. I was very worried we would be charged twice, but in the end, Somerville gave us a receipt with $0.00 owing which was correct. Aisha in Urbana was excellent and I cannot praise or thank her enough for her help. Everybody in Somerville was friendly and helpful, but it was impossible to reach them by phone and when we showed up, "the guy who had access to the U-boxes" often wasn't there. We were told we should have made a reservation online, but that is not possible to do. It was also not possible to make a reservation by phone so we had to keep going over and over until we caught him. It all ended up fine and nothing got damaged so we're satisfied, but it was confused and disorganized and I felt it was lucky we didn't have to argue out of getting double billed. It was also stressful with COVID to have to keep going in person because it was impossible to make reservations by phone or online.

I think the advertisement for checking in on your phone should include that you still have to go into the store to pick up your keys. I was under the impression that I wouldn't have to walk into the store and wait at all. The employee giving me my key was kind. The other employee (she may have been a manager) was very short and impolite.

0 stars! Aisha Zamora and her team is by far a place that I do not want to deal with ever again. Picking up our truck wasn't bad, but drove it 88 miles, and it overheated to the point it couldn't be driven so naturally it needed towed. The day of return (after dealing with U-Haul roadside because we always get the protection with our rental) Aisha calls and leaves me a very nasty message saying that if I don't return the truck ASAP I will have to pay 2 $50 reservation guarantee fees because there are 2 people needing the truck I'm in. I call her and explain what happened and she basically didn't believe that had happened. It took her calling U-Haul roadside to even believe me. She then told me that I was going to only be charged for 1 day (was supposed to have it for 2) and just the 88 miles (was supposed to be about 300 miles). To then find out that they are trying to charge the person that was paying for our rental more then what the check was even for. They were trying to charge to reservation guarantee fees! After knowing what happened and that we couldn't physically bring the truck to them. Told us they couldn't close out our reservation because they didn't have the truck on their lot. How and I suppose to return a truck that had an oil leak?! And could be drove? So as I am on the phone with one of her employees trying to figure all this out and why we were being charged extra, the employee stated that Aisha was to busy to assist and that she would cal back in a few days. I said that isn't going to work that this needs solved now.low and behold, Aisha wasn't busy, she was standing over her reps shoulder cussing that this wasn't important and that they shouldn't have to deal with this matter. I heard everything that she was saying. I will NEVER rent a truck from this location again. I won't even refer any family/friends there.

I went to the Urbana, IL location to get a reservation for the next day and they turned me back saying that they don't have anything. So I got a reservation in Monticello. The next day they transferred my reservation back to Urbana so it turned out that they did have extra vans but they were not willing to help me when I was in need. In short the staff should be more helpful.

No one seemed to know what was going on. It could've just been because it's a busy time, but I did not have a good experience. I did a mobile pickup and the key was not in the lock box and the store forgot to give me the dolly I rented so I had to go back up to the store, after waiting on hold for 20 minutes, just to find out that they didn't have any dolly's. The store flippantly told me to go another store across town because they should “definitely” have the dolly there. The other store had none. Why send your customer of without a solution? It felt like no one cared and that I didn't matter. It may not have been intentional, but I had to save my money to be able to afford rental equipment for my move and not feeling valued as a customer makes me reconsider where I want to spend my money.

The General Manager (Aisha) is an excellent example for her staff to follow and it shows for the level of excellence they all strive to achieve. If you are a customer who is anal about details, this is an excellent location to select. I experienced a problem during my intown 15' rental with the passenger side mirror not staying in place. I am a CDL driver, so I made it work but would probably be an issue for some without experience driving a large vehicle. During my check-in, I brought this to the staff's attention and they advised they would get on it as it would be an easy fix. Thank you Philo Road for the excellent customer service. I have another scheduled rental at 7:00 am on Monday with a Cargo Van and I have no doubt that it will be another five-star experience as my past three have been over the past twelve months. What impresses me the most about this location, the way they clean and detail the vehicles and their location as a whole. In our world today, it is refreshing to provide a five-star customer service review. Maybe if we would all work together like this U-Haul location does, taking ownership of our little piece of our world making it better for all, we would see a tremendous change in the USA.

My daughter accidentally put the lock on the trailer in Chicago and when I got back here to champaign to get the trailer to the next person and realized the lock was on and my daughter was still in chicago with the key they told me to find a locksmith to cut the lock off. I was trying to do that but they sent the next customer to another u-haul to get a trailer and then charged me $150, three different charges and said they had someone cut the lock off. Well they could have had the person cut the lock off and charged me for just that. It was like they wanted the other person to miss her reservation so that they could charge me. I called three different uhauls to see what they would have done and they all said we would have just cut it off for you. Filling a claim does not work because you all just let the managers handle it. I could have talked to that person myself. She told me the charges are valid. They are not fair. Especially for someone who rents all of the time.I have even had storage spaces I have rented.I had one last week in Evanston, IL and I told my daughter to cancel it and get a storage at another company because i will never deal with uhaul again even though Steve who use to work at the uhaul in champaign on University has been amazing for years and the guys in Evanston were amazing.The last two times I rented in Champaign and Urbana were the worst and enough for me not to ever spend my money with your company

I arrived and was the only vehicle in the return lane. Waited as signage instructed, called the store after waiting for several minutes, immediately put on hold. Staff arrived to check me in several minutes later. I suspect the store was understaffed at the time. But still, pleased and I will rent from this location next time.

Between checking in people, answering "packing" questions, and inspecting returned vehicles, the workers at the U-Haul are stretched a little thin. Perhaps....a separate "check-in" desk...a separate individual to inspect returned vehicles....and a "floating worker" who can be called upon, if/when things back up?

I was referred to the Southgate location after stopping at the Champaign U-Haul and was told by a polite gentleman that they were sold out of storage units. I arrived at Southgate and the older male behind the counter offered to assist after the store manager had to call him to return to the front counter while she assisted other customers. I requested a 5x5 but was told they were sold out and the only other option was a 10x10, which was double the price. I told him that I only needed to store a few items from my daughter’s dorm room that were in my small SUV just until August 22nd. The store manager told him that he could give me one of the 5x10 units that was reserved but he ignored her. I asked if I can wait for the store manager to handle but he insisted that she would tell me the same so I proceeded to reserve the 10x10 for nearly $400 and no free lock if I reserved it online. I asked if they could accept $299 since they had a bunch of 10x10 units open and no smaller ones but he said we don’t barter. I told him to cancel the transaction so I could proceed to reserve it online only to find that I could reserve the 5x10 unit and pay for it plus receive the free lock. The male then huffed and asked if I was asking him to cancel the transaction that he just entered for the past 15 mins as if I didn’t lose 15 mins of my time and he wasn’t still getting paid to talk about his life in San Diego. I said yes! Then the store manager turned to him and politely said “that’s what I said you could do for her earlier”. Needless to say, this would be a poor rating of it weren’t for the store manager and I would highly suggest you place reservations and pay for them online in order to avoid being up sold and overspending
