Horrible experience getting my uhaul rental. Had to wait a long time for customer service phone call since they froze my rental since someone “attempted” to use my Drivers license and had to clear that from my name. Then I received the wrong vehicle keys and had gone through all of the steps to check the vehicle for issues and damage. Uhauls new vehicle inspection via our phone is super tedious and takes a long time. The vehicles we received has a lot of damage too.

A) I was given the truck with very very little fuel - the gauge was on E and the "miles to empty" read 0 B) The location was incredibly understaffed, so it would have required a 1 hour wait for the clerk to actually service me to get me some gas

I have been in this location several times recently to buy boxes. The people who work here seem very unhappy and are not friendly at all! The day I rented the truck I dealt with Michael who was extremely rude and impatient with me! I was having trouble with the online portion of renting and he was reluctant to help me, then he through my credit card back at me once it was run. I called him out on his negative attitude and awful customer service and he could care less what I had to say. I'm a job recruiter and have interviewed thousands of people and can honestly say this guy would have never gotten past me. He needs some serious customer service training or needs find a new career!

Really disappointed i had to hunt someone down to assist with my rental pickup and then told it would be a fews because they were working on a car and no apologies for the delay. And hunting someone down took about 5 minutes. That is why below ave rate otherwise no diff than any other place rented before will rent again.

The truck I reserved some weeks ago was not available when we went to pick it up. It took multiple phone calls to finally get a truck (which delayed the move) and I was charged more than the price quoted on my original contract. It took an inordinate amount of time to check the truck and I would not recommend using U-Haul for a variety of reasons.

Apparently when I received my uhaul the gas was “a tick over” half a tank and when I returned it the gas was “at half a tank” thus I was charged a fee for bringing the uhaul back with less gas. I think that was extremely nit picky and very subjective statement that ended up costing me more money. My girlfriend and I had a terrible move and brining the uhaul back only to get a extra charge/rude customer service was very frustrating. I will not come back to this uhaul location in the future and will choose other uhaul rental locations in the future .

Your advertisement says 19.95 in town I only went 50 miles and I was charged $115. At no point was I given my contract or was told when to bring back the truck. I reserved it for 10 hrs not knowing if I didn't bring it before closing I'd be charged an extra day. The service wasn't good instead of them explaining things I got attitude. You should have your employees specify what the estimated price would be instead of just going off the price given on the menu board.

Have the truck and trailer I ordered 3-weeks in advance in the location I ordered it. Truck was moved to San Jose 1.5 hrs from SF location originally ordered, and trailer was in Petaluma (an hour north in the opposite direction as my destination). When spoke with Vanessa at customer service she told me the best uhaul could do was give me miles on the truck. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. No accommodation for last minute switch of locations and unavailability — had to incur an extra $200 to have someone pick up since I couldn't miss my scheduled movers. When I asked if uhaul would do anything about that, they said no. Uhaul should be ashamed of itself. Advertised as a cheaper alternative, but if time is money, then it's actually more expensive than just hiring movers who show up on time, deliver what I ordered, and make right on their mistakes because they care about their customers. Pathetic.

I booked a u-haul van, rented a dolly and I didn't find a dolly inside van, I was on hold with customer service for 30 mins and no one even answered, lucky there was a guy inside u-haul store after hours who had to lend me. My move would have been very bad if I didn't find a dolly.

The only thing I had a problem with, is the $822.xx charge for a 4 x 8 trailer. It's a ridiculous amount of money for the size of the trailer. You should be embarrassed to have charged this much. But I guess greed has no scruples.

I had a good experience with U Haul location at 1027 The Alameda. Their staff are courteous and professional. But I had a poor experience during reservation. I reserved a truck (20 ft) about 5 days before the move. When I booked it, it indicated that it is a "Guaranteed" reservation. My reservation was to get a truck in San Jose location and drop it off to Merced. But one day before our moving day, a manager called me and said my reservation is cancelled because no truck is available. No solution offered, and she just mentioned that she did not even know how I was able to book it in the first place. She just said, I cancelled your reservation because there is no truck. That's it! This is a day before the moving day. And the reservation I made was guaranteed, not the one with limited availability warning. I was the one who asked what options I could have because I had to leave the following day. That was the time when she only started looking for alternatives for my situation.. And the alternative was a 17ft truck, but have to return it to San Jose and to be charged for a dollar something every mile. I had no choice but to accept this. And your website bragged about Guaranteed reservation, I was not even offered the $50 compensation when my 20 ft reserved truck was not available. It was a very poor experience because I scheduled my moving out from my previous house and my work schedule based on the reservation of the truck. It is deceiving to indicate that it is a Guaranteed reservation then to be called only one day before the truck pick up date. The experience was even made worse by an unapologetic tone of the manager who called, not proactive to find a solution, and put me in a situation where I had no choice but to accept a deal where I had to return the truck (125 miles away for one way) and to be told that I will be charged for every mile during the whole journey. I feel it is a trap to be in this situation for the benefit of your business.

I found the 24/7 process tedious, especially since a number of items were already confirmed (e.g, driver's license, duration of vehicle rental, etc). Plus, finding it was not easy either.

I needed a 15 foot truck to move from San Jose to Felton. The 15 footer I got did really well on hwy 17 and on the dicey roads in the rural mountain area I moved to. It was easy to handle and back up. Thanks for making my crazy move just a little easier!

If additional items have been ordered such as dollies or pads a “confirm items” step should be added to the cell phone “self rental” process. After I picked up my keys I left with the assumption the additional items were in the cargo. Other than that, I LOVE the cell phone self rent and return process.

First, I found no value to following the prompt to enter in my drivers' license and information after making my reservation as I had to enter it again on-site at the time I was trying to pick up my vehicle. Second, despite having rented from this same location before, I had to wait for someone to manually approve and had to provide another reference. This should have been something done at the time of the online reservation, not something that occurred immediately after I selected "Pick up my vehicle" at the lot. Third, the location itself almost rented my truck out. If I had been even 5 minutes later (I arrived and selected "Pick up my vehicle" from my mobile device at 9:35 AM) I would not have had the truck I was allocated. Fourth, the truck itself was in very poor condition. As a 2007 vehicle with over 140K miles, the suspension is worn out and the engine had nearly no power. Fifth, I had to go back and request/insist on getting the dolly I had reserved, despite it being on my rental agreement. For all future customers, I sincerely hope that when a reservation is transferred from one location to another, that greater care is taken to make sure the reservation is honored in full and not treated as a sudden "best-effort".

Rental was quick, maybe a lot of instructions for someone that hasn't rented before. The agreement/document was very thorough though, for fuel refill instructions etc. Return on phone was very user friendly.

Rental contract indicted gas was full and cargo can was in pristine condition, however when getting in the van the gas was just above 3/4 full and there were scratch marks and dents in the interior and the exterior was visibly dirty. Furthermore, I reserved a 15' truck 2.5 weeks before my move date on 10/3, but I was informed 10/1 after 7 pm that no 10' or 15' trucks were available within 100 miles of my location with only cargo vans and pick up trucks available. This, my move, 30 miles away took over 11 hours and was made logistically inconvenient, significantly. The representative I spoke to was unfriendly and unwilling to compensate me for the additional miles I had to drive (over 90 Addis two miles due to multiple trips) nor the inconvenience of my move or not having the truck I reserved available. Although I am thankful for U-Haul being a well known and easily accessible moving option, I have yet had a positive experience with this company.

I had made online reservations to pickup a trailer at the Alameda location but for some reason, it went to the Tully Road location (my online receipt did show the Alameda). Tully road had tried to call a phone number that was in the system but rarely used, so I would have wanted them to call a secondary number which you should have in your online system as I had reserved a trailer about a week prior. Nevertheless, the staff at the Alameda store are excellent problem solvers and was able to accommodate my situation with very little problems and fuss. Kudos to your staff at the Alameda store for putting a customer experience first!!!!

I am happy with the service at the local branch. I AM INFURIATED AT U-HAUL CORPORATE FOR TRYING TO GET ME TO GRAB A TRUCK IN SALINAS WHICH WAS MORE THAN AN HOUR AWAY AND THEN SUGGESTING ME TO UBER BUT NOT REFUND IT WHEN I EXPLICITLY MENTIONED WHEN I MADE THE RESERVATION THAT I AM UNABLE TO PICK UP A TRUCK OUTSIDE OF SAN JOSE DUE TO NOT HAVING A CAR.

The only disappointment was that the equipment I reserved - dollies - were not available for my move because other customers hadn't returned them in time. That made the move more difficult. Otherwise, customer service from the UHaul employees was good.
